We did the private tasting at RDV and it was a great time! Though very pricy, we thoroughly enjoyed the tour (and the specialty rose that came with it, just wow) and the tasting that followed. The wines were delicious, as was the charcuterie board. That wagyu beef was on point, as was the cheese and the honey. I probably wouldn't do the tasting again, but I enjoyed it as a one time thing!

This was a magical experience! My husband and I took a 2pm tour with Carl. Upon arrival we were greeted with a glass of champagne. We were given a very informative tour by Carl where we got to see the beautiful property both inside and out. We got to explore the barrel room as well which was my favorite part besides the charcuterie board we were given! On the tour we got to try a few of their wines and then had time to try another three wines at our table along with a delicious charcuterie. The tour we took was $120 per person but definitely worth trying!

Aging barrels of wine! Cannot stress how gorgeous the winery is!

RdV an Exclusive Wine Tasting experience! Reservations are required which you should do well in advance they fill up quick! Tasting fee is $120 (yes expensive, but worth it). The gated property is simply beautiful inside and out! AMBIANCE chart off the meters. Our guide Krystal was the best, informative but not "dry" ( pun intended) lol. My girls & I left feeling like little sommeliers. The charcuterie was delicious and featured honey from a local farm, OMG DE-Li-CIOUS!

Still shocked! At $120 tasting fee each they don't even feature their wine. We sat down to a Krug Champagne, a Chateau Pape from Bordeaux, 2016 Silver Oak from Napa their 2017 Lost Mountain @$175 bottle. They also serve a lovely charcuterie board. The Most unusual experience to date we were so shocked. They only make 3 wines but when asked if we could taste the other ones we were told there was nothing open. We live in Northern CA so we are spoiled yes but this was ridiculous! RDV do better or lower your tasting fee, to be exclusive doesn't mean that your client doesn't care about the value and quality.

I came here two nights ago for a small birthday. It was just my wife and I and one other couple. We had a tasting lined up and did the tour. The property was amazing and it was clear that it was a much more intimate, private venue. It was very quiet and people were spread very far apart, both in tents on the lawn an inside. The tour was very thorough and wasnt overly technical. Sometimes these wine tours can be overly in-depth and it feels like you are in a chemistry class. The tour was relatively informal but very interesting. It culminated in our tasting. There was pretty awesome meat/cheese board waiting for us and our wine. The tasting consists of both the Lost Mountain and the Rendezvous as well as some Dom Perignon. Of course I wish the tasting was larger but seeing as they only make three wines, you know what youre getting. In all the place was amazing. There are some complaints about the cost but as far as I'm concerned, you don't have to pay for it. It's certainly expensive but that's just the way it is. I thought it was worth it.

Wine: Atmosphere: Price: RdV Vineyard is nestled along the Blue Ridge Mountains in Delaplane, VA. If you are located in Washington, D.C. it is about an hour away from the city. Boy is it worth it - Out of all the wineries that I have been to (and I am from California!) RdV, is by far my favorite. RdV is not your typical, one-size fits all winery. It is an experience. Reservation only and for $70 you get what you pay for. Your reservation will get you a private tour of the indoor facility, wine caverns, view of the french oak barrels and bottling area, as well as a historic story on how Rutger de Vink created his vision. I won't spill too many of the details here, it's worth the experience. After your tour, you will be greeted with a glass of Dom Perignon, wine flight and Boars Head charcuterie platter. Choose to enjoy inside or outside! Additionally, you will most likely be greeted by Karl Kuhn. Karl is the Head of Hospitality at RdV and surely makes you feel welcome. He received his Advanced Sommerlier certification in 2019 and will share his wealth of knowledge on wine with your readily. It also goes with out saying that Karl is simply magnetic. I actually ran into him as a patron sipping on wine in the D.C. area at a local spot, Maxwell. He greeted me with such warmth and even remembered me from my time visiting RdV - if that does not make you feel welcome, I don't know what will. While sipping your wine, you will view the beautiful landscape that covers the granite hills that RdV was built upon. The granite is key for proper drainage that allows for Rutger to produce his world class wines. I am very impressed by Rutger's detail oriented to create great wine. Specifically, he ensures that all aspects of wine making are done by him and his team. He even bottles his own wines (which you will see on your tour) and takes out any third party. He controls every aspect of his product - he does not risk bottling wines to a third party where he has to commit to a certain schedule. If it does not taste perfect that day, it does not get bottled. The wine is simply said, impressive. Bordeaux grapes, planted on a granite hillside, producing wines that marry the elegance of Bordeaux with the bold spirit of California. And this California girl loves it! Make your reservation here!

Amazing!!! This is a boutique winery specializing in red wines. They don't offer a large a selection but what they do offer is the best of the best!! LARGE amounts of effort have gone into development. It's truly spectacular. The way that they do tastings here is through reservations. This secures your spot, provides a winery tour and a tasting of their wines. It's $65 per person for this. They will be the best red wines you will try!! RDV is truly a unique experience

Beautiful, high end winery. They do not have enough of their own wine so they provide a comparative flight of 3 oz tastings. We started with 2010 Dom perignon then the 3 reds (1 from Napa, 1 from Bordeaux and 1 of theirs -Lost mountain). Fee also included a shared charcuterie board that was not great, honestly sloppily put together...I expected a lot more from the food board for the price and way the winery carries itself. $120 is worth it for the quality of wine you taste, the average price per bottle we tasted retails: - Dom perignon $245 - Bordeaux $90 - lost mountain $175 - Napa Cabernet $130

What an incredible experience! Businesses like these are why five-stars exist. If you are wondering if the $50 reservation/tour fee is worth it, then wonder no more and take a leap of faith. This tour was one of the most comprehensive and thorough winery tours I've been on. We started our tour outside at the vineyard then proceeded on to the fermenting room before exploring the barrel and blending rooms. At each spot, our knowledgeable guide explained the history and Mr. de Vink's thought processes. As for wine tastings, we started out with champagne then finished the tour at a communal table with three reds as well as a cheese and charcuterie board. Not only did I learn more about winemaking but I was also absolutely blown away by the care with which Mr. de Vink carries out his craft. His love for wine and his unfaltering dedication were palpable in just about every room, the property, and the wines. I won't spoil anymore, except to tell you that the White House apparently ordered RdV wines for a Nordic state dinner. I think it's quite fitting that RdV's wines would be served to represent American businesses as well as the American can-do spirit (i.e. growing world-class wine in Virginia).

If this review sounds like a broken record compared to the rest of the postings - it's because it is, and that's a good thing. The tour was the single best viticulture experience I've ever had, and I've been to at least 100 VA wineries (and some non-VA wineries) in the past 4 years. The tasting/production facility is also one of the most amazing buildings I've ever toured at a winery. The two reds they serve were both excellent. The only negative thing is the price - but it's a whopper. The tour is $50 and appointment-only, and the wines were easily the most expensive VA-grown wines I've ever seen (but at least you get about half a glass instead of a tiny tasting, plus a charcuterie plate). Because of this, RdV isn't for everyone. To get your money's worth, you really have to be a die-hard wine drinker, or have a deep interest in the mechanics of how wine is made. Fortunately both of those caveats apply to me, so I'm very glad I went!

We visited the winery on Valentine's Day, which fell on a Saturday this year. We had made a…read morereservation in advance and arrived a bit early, but were seated right away. Tables are reserved for 2.5 hours, so I assume the party before us didn't use their full time. We ordered an appetizer and a bottle of wine. The brie cake was delicious--even for someone who doesn't usually like goat cheese (it was layered in)--but unfortunately, no one in our group enjoyed the cheesecake. The winery is both dog- and kid-friendly. All the parents we encountered kept their children supervised, which is a winery rule and one I really appreciate now that we have kids ourselves. Most of the dogs were also very well behaved, though one was repeatedly growling at passing dogs, which was off-putting. While the winery can't control every patron, we choose to leave our dog at home when she's not in a social mood, and it would be nice if all dog owners did the same.

TL;DR: PACKED when the weather is nice, expensive but great food and drinks, OK view…read more Ambiance (4/5): We arrived as a party of 4 on a Saturday and immediately walked into a live-action game of Musical Chairs: Patio Edition. Not a single table was available. Instead, there were rows of empty tables with RESERVED signs on them, apparently reserved for ghosts, because no one sat at them for 2+ hours. Meanwhile, groups of people, including us, circled the patio like vultures waiting for a table to finally open. The oyster pop-up bar had a line wrapping around the patio like people were waiting for Taylor Swift concert tickets instead of shellfish. There are small campfire setups around the outside area. But in 69°F full sun with a gentle breeze, you'd think no one would use them. Wrong. The whole side patio and hill area turned into a smoky campsite, with diners getting smoked out and leaving. On top of that, we had to fend off a rotating cast of unattended children. Kids wandered around like they were in an unsupervised theme park. One repeatedly tried sticking their hands in our dog's face while she was calmly chewing on a bone outside like a civilized creature. We ended up disciplining other people's children just so our dog could exist without being harassed. Food (4/5): We ordered the Nduja Sausage and Ricotta Pizza ($26), a red sangria pitcher ($40), a red sangria glass ($12), and the s'mores cookie tray ($10 for 3 cookies). The pizza was delicious, but the crust was so thin and flimsy it needed structural reinforcement. I used part of the previous slice to smear the ricotta around to get a balanced bite each time. The sangria was great, but $40 for 4 1/3 full glasses of wine felt disappointing. It's sangria, not liquid gold. The cookies were good, but for $10, 3 cookies should at least come with hot cocoa. Service (4/5): The lines were out the door. That is not the staff's fault. This place is popular, and the food is great. While I waited the 15 minute line to order, I reviewed the menu, dodged tiny children, and stepped away from random dogs on leashes inside the establishment trying to jump on me. It felt like a low-stakes obstacle course. When I got to the counter, I placed my order quickly. The bartender whipped the screen around with such precision and stared me down during the tip prompt like I was making a morally questionable decision. I pressed "No Tip" (listen. I stood in a line, picked up my own order, and bussed my own table) and his face shifted from "happy to help you" to "you have personally wronged me and my ancestors" in seconds. After tapping through 5+ different prompts, he told me to set a timer on my phone for 10 to 15 minutes and go to a different building to pick up my pizza. Finding this second building required me to use my nose like a bloodhound, following the faint scent of pizza through crowds until I finally tracked it down.

I love happy accidents…read more We never intended to make a stop at Valley View Farm. Our plan was to spend Sunday morning picking apples and digging up potatoes at Hollin Farms next door. But at the sight of a mile-long line of cars slowly inching up the hill to the entrance and no clue as to how long we would have to sit and wait, we decided to make a U-turn and head to the friendly-looking farm we had passed on the way. Turned out to be a great decision. Valley View Farm is a cidery, winery, orchard, and farm market wrapped in one and set against a beautiful backdrop of rolling green hills. So basically you can sip on cider and wine, pick your own apples, eat local cheeses, and check off your grocery list all in one place. Your visit will start at the red barn at the top of the hill that serves as both farm market and tasting room. This is where you'll buy your bag for apple picking, try the wine or cider, pick up some grass-fed beef from the freezer, and/or grab some apple butter (there are easily 15 varieties) or a $25 jar of CBD honey (yep, that's a thing). This is also where you will interact with the staff, an awesome bunch who managed to keep their cool and crack a genuine smile even when they were overwhelmed by the growing line inside the market. We purchased a $23 half bushel bag - the largest size available - and strolled down to the orchard, sipping on a light cider with just the right amount of tart. The apple trees were still plentiful even this late in the season and we managed to fill our bag with a nice array of red delicious, galas, and granny smiths (which were delicious, by the way). Afterwards, we strolled back to the grass, laid out a blanket, and had a lovely picnic lunch marveling at those rolling green hills and our two-year-old doing an unintended impression of Julie Andrews singing "The Hills are Alive". It couldn't have been a more perfect day. A few more helpful things to know: - Masks are required for staff and patrons inside the farm market. - The orchard offers plenty of space for social distancing. - If you prefer not to lay on the grass, covered tables are available on the porch and to the side of the farm market. - The bathrooms are two porta potties located to the right of the farm market (there aren't any inside) so...bring hand sanitizer if you just can't hold it. We loved our visit and are already plotting the next one for pear picking!
