Too pricey for a simple trim. I have long hair and all I had done was two inch trim. She didn't even take the time to get my split ends. The cut lasted less than 10mts. And for $40 I didn't even get my hair washed. Definitely a rip off. Wasn't crazy about the vibe either. I felt like it was an interview to find out how she need to charge me. Being in a new city, I'm looking for someone who will take care of my curls and I read the reviews and really, reviews can be determined off of someone's bad day, for me, I'd prefer to try and weigh out the outcome. I've had some pretty bad curly cuts. I called Joyce and she scheduled me in for the next day. Joyce is a phenomenal woman, she has a lot of history and stories, amazing ones, definitely someone worth getting to know, very kind as well and professional. She ruined my hair. I was being specific about style that I want but she spontaneously cut my front hair as a bang. Also, she doesn't use scissors to cut hair. She uses trimming knife. Honestly, I can do better job than her. I think she lost her taste or just too old fashion. She gets millions phone calls and cannot focus on getting my hair done. It was so stressful to be there. This wasn't what I was expecting and she charged me for $160 with unfinished hair. She couldn't even bother to style my hair at the end. Drove all the way up from SF to see Joyce in Sacramento as hair salons in SF is still currently closed due to the SIP. We made the appointment about to weeks before we came. My husband got a haircut and I got a digital perm + haircut. Joyce was super nice and very accommodating. She is also very quick and efficient! It took about 2.5-3 hrs for a haircut and a digital perm. She was very thorough with my haircut. She took 4 inches off and she added more layer. The result was amazing. Although I might not come back to see her for another haircut (I cut my hair 3-4 times/year), I will definitely come back when it's time to get a new perm. I've been going to Joyce for over a year now. I got sick and tired of all the cookie cutter hair salons in south sacramento, so I decided to look on google for a "Korean" hair salon expert that is good at cutting Asian hair. I found Lotte Beauty Salon on yelp and decided to give it a try. SHE WAS GREAT! The only thing is that you need to set an appointment because she's really busy + she is the only one there. The wait time is not bad if you set an appointment, she is usually flexible with her schedule. She cuts both guys and girls hair, but most of her clients are females. Joyce has a lot of experience in the salon business since she used to work in hollywood! The best thing to do is bring in a picture of a hairstyle you would like, and she will tell you if it can be done. She is very smart with hair and will be honest about what type of hairstyle fits you best. I always tip her when she is done cutting my hair. I don't think I've ever walked out feeling bad about a haircut! If there is something you don't like, you can tell her while she is doing your hair; she will usually fix it to your liking. :) The only thing I wish she would do is put AC in her shop...during the summer time, it gets REALLY hot. And there is only a little fan in the room. If the atmosphere was a little better, I would score this with 5 stars....but 4 stars will have to do for now. :) LOVE YA, JOYCE! read more

I went to this place about 3 weeks ago for a haircut and digital perm. I made an appointment just in case she'd be busy but there were no other customers there when I got there. I asked her to give me a trim so cut off about an inch..I think she cut off about 2 or more =/ The rest of the experience was pretty good. I believe she's the only hair stylist there so she has to take care of multiple customers at the same time. I had to wait a few times in between hair cut, perm and whatever else she was doing to my hair, so she could take care of other customers. She does speak Korean but also speaks English well. I felt like my hair was really short after the perm but I guess that's also because my hair was curly. I like my hair more now that I'm used to it. I paid about $130 for haircut + perm. I thought it was kind of a lot but she was nice so it's okay. I'm not sure if I'll go there again only because it is kind of far. read more

I think my original rating should have been a 4 stars ... Although the results of bigger procedures, i.e. perms, colorings, etc., are fantastic, regular hair cuts are just average. She has to rush through the regular cuts, which are done between steps of the bigger procedures, so she can attend to everyone else. Sometimes the cuts end up slightly uneven or something. Advice: try and go during a time where others probably won't be there. read more

When it comes to my hair I am really sensitive. Not only do I have thin hair, whatever follicles I have left on my head are slowly departing. Often I end up at places that thin my hair to cover up their mistakes, and leaves me with come over look. I had to wait for 3 guys to get their haircuts, but it was a pretty quick wait. She blazed through all 3 of them and gave them solid haircuts. My fear with Asian haircut places is that sometimes it is hard to communicate what you want. The only thing I heard while waiting was Korean, but it was my turn Joyce spoke perfect English to me and already knew what I wanted after explaining. After she was done with my haircut, my hair was shampooed and dried (factored into the haircut cost). The only part I didn't like was the hair product she put in my hair after. She didn't ask if I wanted any, and by the time I realized what she was doing, she was already reaching for my hair. My overall look after my haircut was... alright. I asked for a number one on the sides, and for her to clean up the hair on top and that is exactly what she did. I am used to my old stylist to add her own style and fade or do whatever necessary to make it look good. The next time I come here, I will be sure to tell her exactly what I want in more detail instead of providing general guidelines. Note: You can't see Lotte from the street. It is in the Butterfield Plaza where the buildings have red tile on the roof. I passed it and ended up having to drive for 2 miles because there was construction that wouldn't let me U-turn anywhere. read more

I'd gone to Joyce over a decade ago when I went from long hair to a short bob to almost a pixie. The only reason I stopped going was I grew my hair out. When I was ready to cut off 16 inches last month, I was over the moon to see that she was still in business! My hair has changed a lot in the last 10 years, and I wasn't sure what the best options would be for the style that I liked. I have super fine hair, and it has thinned drastically over the last 3 to 4 years. Joyce was very straightforward about what would look best, based on her experience and the pictures I brought in we discussed options and I felt really comfortable with what we agreed upon. Oh MY GOSH... where do i begin? so history on me, i go down to LA to get my hair done. i have risked it with couple Sacramento and bay area Korean salons and they have damaged my hair or made me look like a fob. so i go to The Hills in LA, Hye In or Rachel. I love how they cut and style your hair and they do a great job... but i have to say... Joyce is GRRRREEEAAAAT!!! first of all, i called her at 330 and asked her if i can get magic straight. i have never gotten my hair done by Joyce before, but i was sooo impatient that i just called around asking for magic straight. Lotte's Joyce said "it sounds like you really want this done today... why don't you come in at 415?" she saw the condition of my hair and said that she wanted to put a leave in conditioner for a long time on my hair before she began the magic straight. she put the conditioner in my hair for 45 minutes. mind you, by the time she actually started on my hair it was late... usually magic straights take close to 4 hours, however with the extra conditioning etc, it took closer to 5 hours. after she was done with my hair, i was in shock because my hair looked healthier, softer.... it looked beautiful. best magic straight i have gotten EVER. usually you go to salons and they have their assistants help them with magic straights, they take larger clumps of hair and are not that detail oriented so your end product is more so... good, but not perfect. Joyce got every strand perfect. it was amazing. she also has the water wave perm, well being perms, digital etc. everything. i will be going to Joyce going forward!!! read more

She speaks English pretty fluently which makes my daughter happy. The hair cuts are good. They are not superb, but good. I recently got my hair highlighted and I am very satisfied with the warm brown color in it. She definitely needs an assistant. Don't be surprised if your time is interrupted by several phone calls. I'm originally an LA girl but finding it a bit expensive to fly down to LA everytime I wanted a hair treatment now that I live in Sac, I decided to try out one of the local venues. I went to this joint based on 3 impeccable reviews. Boy was I misled. This place is GHETTO! It's run by the owner and her alone. She has no help staff. That's why it can so busy. Because there's only one person doing all the work! I went in for highlights and a trim. The haircut was nothing to write home about. The highlights on the other hand were AWFUL! She promised warm, medium brown, natural looking highlights. Instead, what I got was bright orange artificial looking streaks in my hair. I've highlighted my own hair before with home kits and I've done much better. When she was trimming my hair, two men walked in, both wanting hair cuts. I could tell she felt pressured by the waiting customers and totally rushed my cut. In fact, when she was done with me, my hair was only partially dried and my locks were uneven. Oh and I forgot to mention that when she was shampooing the highlights out of my hair, she got the entire back of my shirt wet and didn't even apologize. Does she really have the 20+ years of experience she so brags about? To add insult to injury, she charged me separately for the highlights and the haircut, whereas most places in LA that I've been to include the price of the haircut into the highlights--meaning the cut is free if you get your hair highlighted. The final amount was about $20 more than what I would normally pay in LA. I would pay double that amount if only I could have my hair back. I walked out of the salon $105 poorer and looking like a home highlighting attempt gone bad. Seriously, I have fluorescent orange streaks in my uneven, choppy hair to prove it. I could have done my own hair much better and for a tenth of the price. Never again! read more

Today I went to Lotte for a haircut. Prior to going there I called and Joyce was willing to squeeze me in for a 4pm appointment. Since my friend raved about how good Joyce is, I want to get my haircut there as well. I went in and saw Joyce busy with 2 other clients. After she finish with one of the clients I was next. I told Joyce that I want my hair to still be long so I will be able to curl my hair. Also I asked her to give me long layers and a side swept bang. She did 2 out of the 3. The result of my hair is a lot shorter than what I wanted. The length of my hair now sits above my shoulder. I call that a short hair cut, not the long hair I wanted below my shoulders. I'm not a happy camper. I guess i won't be curling my hair for awhile cause I have to wait for it to grow out. Thanks Joyce. Her cutting style is good and quick. I have to give her credit that she knows how to cut hair BUT make sure to let her know exactly what you want even if it means to repeat 2x or 3x. I don't see myself going back to Lotte for another hair cut. Sorry this was a Missed for me. I feel like I need to buy extensions now. read more

This is a good place to get a quick men's haircut. As far as I can tell there is one lady who works here and she does a fast, efficient, and good job. My only advice is that you should call ahead to make an appointment, and call 30 minutes before your appointment to re-confirm. I was on vacation in Taylorsville, a good 3 hours from Sacramento. I wanted to make sure that I got a good haircut, and being Korean, I had numerous (too numerous to count or want to remember) experiences with stylists only accustomed to non-asian hair. I was encouraged by the review of Anthony W, so I decided to go for it. On the appearances, this salon seems much smaller than the mega salons I was used to in southern Cal. One thing that kept me waiting was the fact that there was a steady stream of clientele, and I watched Joyce (the main stylist and owner) work, and being a hair cutter myself, I noticed she has great technique and is meticulous. I waited about 20 minutes, and she called me up. The cut was done in about 15-20 minutes, but she is so deft and skilled, it was the equivalent or better of other cuts that had taken an hour or more. She is great to talk to, is very stylish and modern, and she gives each customer her personal best. I liked it so much I invited my wife to get one right after me, and she did, and she loved it (that says a lot for a woman)! All of this to say that for a first time experience based on one review, it was accurate and well worth the 36 we payed for two haircuts (15 for men including shampoo, and 21 for ladies with shampoo).
