i'm pretty much down with Lotus Express. it's similar to any other hole in the wall chinese place, but the staff are always friendly. They deliver for free and have a fantastic garlic sauce. Their fish tank with torrid goldfish social dynamic puts this place over the top. read more

I ordered Szechuan shrimp with shrimp fried rice. It was just shrimp with lots of vegetables and not very spicy. It was basically shrimp and broccoli. Delivery was good and they didn't mess up my order this time. They gave me two sodas but no straws. Overall good was good and cheap. read more

DO NOT order from Lotus Express!!! We found 3 roaches in our food today!! We've been ordering from here forever and today was our last day ordering from Lotus Express. The place always looks so clean which was our surprise. I know it's New York and bugs are everywhere but it's a real problem when they are in the food! Also, customer service here is the worst (when the lady is there...she's just so rude and didn't care that we had bugs in our food), delivery takes over an hour and the prices are too high for a Chinese take away. Very hard working and friendly folks at Lotus especially considering all the BS they deal with on a daily. FYI- there is no authentic Chinese food on the menu BUT the food they make is pretty tasty. My número uno is the homemade dumplings. The garlic soy sauce it comes with is finger licking. I also like the Chinese omelette with shrimp. PS - they don't recycle but that does not mean you do not need to. Also if and when you can request not to get the plastic forks and sauces! read more

My favorite (Americanized) Chinese takeout place in the area. They get the job done and do it consistently well, which can be hard to find with these types of places. They are attentive when they take your order on the phone, and accurate--I've never gotten a wrong order. The food is reliably tasty and delivered hot. I recommend the cheese wontons and the fried pork dumplings; their wonton soup is delicious as well. They recently added Thai dishes to their menu which I'm curious to try. Prices are affordable in an often overpriced neighborhood. You can't do much better than Lotus when the craving hits for Chinese takeout. read more

We ordered two vegetarian dishes from them given the great reviews here. The three things that we heard that caught our attention were: 1. Super fast delivery 2. Really cheap 3. And this was the kicker - "Better than Amy's" So the positives. The delivery was indeed super fast. Also, the price tag could not be beat. It was easily 25-30% less than what we pay when we do Amy's. The spring rolls were excellent. The negatives? The entrees was no where near as good. The tofu was neither prepared or cooked as well. The sauces were generally sweeter and everything had a radiated orange look to it. It was generally acceptable over-all. I want to be clear. The food was OK. It was not bad. However, when folks say 'better than Amy's' that is a pretty high bar. In Inwood, Amy's is as good as it comes (even with the warts of high price and slowish delivery). I bounced between two and three stars. I wish Yelp would let me give a half star as I think 2.5 is more fair. read more

For a Chinese delivery option, this place is as top notch as one could hope for. The food arrived quickly, very hot, and all correct. Everything was delicious, tasted authentic and well seasoned, and was overall great. The pork dumplings especially had a very rich flavor that's usually missing in fast casual Chinese food. This place has the worst dumplings I've ever had in the Inwood area. I was previously purchasing my dumplings from another establishment near the 1 train in dyckman. Unfortunately that place burned down in a fire accident. I longed for the same delicious dumplings. I came across this place on my way to work. I ordered some dumplings and garlic sauce. I went home sat down and started to eat them. To my dismay these were disgusting. they were wet and soggy. These were definitely not home made, they seemed to be frozen and heated up. The taste of condiments was overwhelming and it felt like I was just eating wet cat food. In my attached pictures you may see how the dumplings look. They look like something you can pick up at a local supermarket. It's a disgrace to call these home made and they charged me $7.00 I would never buy them again. I threw them out and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who likes dumplings. read more

This is a website purely to review food, and fact of the matter is, this place's food is the best in Inwood, just like I said in my last review. I made my fifth order today, and was treated with kind, genuine, homefelt service; I feel the fact when I made my last order it was Halloween meant that the store was most likely pretty slammed. I love this place. Granted I only ever order the dumplings but they're 1) handmade with, 2) rice instead of flour making them gluten free (at least I think they are), and 3) delicious always. Even the steamed ones! They're not overly breaded, like the store brands and other take-out places, and the food comes quickly, I can never finish it in one sitting because there are so many dumplings and all for $7!? This place doesn't look like much the setting is poor. But the food is amazing I always order the broccoli with garlic sauce and vegetarian chicken. If you want subtle, nuanced flavors, this is not the place. If you want a spicy, sweet flavor explosion, try Lotus Express on for size. This is so much better than the average Chinese takeout, but don't expect very authentic food. The owner gets his ingredients fresh from Chinatown and you can taste the difference. Super fast delivery!!! I live half a mile away and get my food in under 20 minutes usually. My usual go to spot is Amy's for Chinese food, but Lotus is just as good.
