What a cool experience! You basically cook your own food, but with flair. The server and the server helper guided us through the menu, our appetizers came out really quick which was great, because we arrived, starving. I liked the crab rangoon, it is definitely of the sweet variety. And you make your own sauces, for the soup and the appetizer, I dipped my rangoons in spicy sauce, 10x better. You can make your own sauce but they also have a recipe out that you can follow, one spicy, one non spicy. Drinks were refilled promptly and we learned that broth can be refilled, but it's only refilled with chicken broth, therefore it blanded out our TomYum, to which I just added my spicy sauce and was happy again. Definitely need to try if you are considering it.

A friend and I came at an off time so we didn't wait. This is the first time I've had Korean BBQ and loved it. There's cooktops on the tables where you can grill meat and cook soup, plus there's a spice bar with all kinds of spices from mild to hot where you make up your sauces. Everything you order is basically ala carte. From different meats to vegetables. We also ordered crab rangoon which was the best I've ever had. Great atmosphere as well. I would definitely come here again. Loved this place. I have to thank the waitress for taking the time to explain how everything works.

Love, love this place. Located in a strip mall, kind of a hole in the wall that you don't want to miss! They have awesome authentic hot pot soup that is so delicious! Recommend the Herbal soup base. Add your choices of veggies, meats, and sauces. They even have a gluten free menu! This place is worth the drive and the service is always awesome!

The lobby is cute, it does look like they are currently making updates to it. Everything is Al a Carte: the prices are a bit pricey for veggies. The different veggie choices are $4 a platter, (even spinach), and the meats were fairly priced. You can choose to do hot pot or kbq. The service wasn't horrible but wasn't great. I did enjoy my Tom Yum: however I had wanted a different flavor and they didn't have it..

Love love love this place! I come here with my brother all the time, just let them know you're vegan and they'll give you a full run-down of everything you can eat, and everything they can veganize. They play the best music and have the best people, cannot recommend enough!

    Splashed with sizzling hot oil

I recently had a truly disappointing experience at this restaurant. From the moment we arrived, the staff seemed agitated, and the introduction was far from welcoming. The server bluntly asked, "Do you guys have questions or no??" which implied the answer before we even had a chance to respond. Things quickly escalated from there. The server spilled eight glasses of water on two of us, soaking our laps and torsos. We were moved to a new table, and despite the mishap, we remained gracious and understanding, as accidents do happen. However, the service only got worse. Instead of politely placing items on the table, the server shoved extremely hot metal cooking equipment between a family member and me. In the process, sizzling hot oil splashed onto me, causing a painful burn on my skin. I didn't say anything at first, not wanting to overreact, but when I jumped from the oil hitting my arm--an entirely natural reaction--there was no apology from the server. When we asked for more silverware and bowls, as we hadn't been given enough, the server responded rudely, saying, "If you guys keep asking for stuff, then I won't be able to give you your food." This kind of attitude was completely unacceptable. At the end of our meal, when we inquired about compensation for all the issues we encountered, the staff member coldly replied, "You guys didn't have a problem with service until it's time to pay." This was frustrating for two reasons: 1) No one ever checked on us to see how we were doing, and 2) We had been trying to make the best of the situation. We had to ask for refills multiple times, and at one point, I had to get up from my seat and walk to the back corner to order rice while the server was eating and watching a TV show on her phone. To top it off, we were told not to let the soup get to the bottom because it would burn and cause extra cleaning at the end of the night. This was both strange and unprofessional. Youml apologized for the service at the end, but the other lady (of Asian decent) glared at us for the other side of the restaurant which was both awkward and uncomfortable. While the food itself was tasty, the poor service completely overshadowed the experience. This was particularly disappointing as we had a guest visiting from Florida with first time introduction's with us. Given how we were treated, I would not recommend this restaurant and definitely will not be returning.

Y'all... I think I've found a new obsession. There are no hot pot restaurants where I'm from, so we jumped on the opportunity to check this place out while in Kansas City. I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty confusing to figure out how to order at first, but our waitress help us out and made it simple. On your menu, you basically choose whatever you want to add to your pot, choose a broth, and go from there. And the portion sizes for each item you choose will be more than enough for 2 people, so we learned! The food was amazing. It took a couple tries to figure out how long to keep each item in the pot for, but was easy to adapt to afterward. You can also choose from a list of sauces, where you can mix and match everything. Not only is this a great meal, but an experience... It's so fun! Now I'm hoping even more that my home city will get one of these soon!

We absolutely loved this place! The choice between Korean bbq or hot pot was too difficult so we chose them both! We ordered crab Rangoon as an appetizer, and let me tell you that they are so dang delicious!! Next we got the Tom Yum broth and chose chicken, tomatoes, bok choy, and more to add to the hot pot. The servings are enormous so be careful how many you ask for without first seeing the portions. The Korean short ribs were super tasty and flavorful! 10/10 from this travel trio! The service was quick, friendly, and very helpful!

Medium sized house special spicy broth (two lunch specials with same broth)

Eric R. and I stopped here while driving home from Des Moines. He wanted hotpot despite the hot temperatures when I read off my bookmarks while he drove. It was quite busy as we arrived around 1 PM. We were seated and given the regular menu. We asked about the lunch specials that I read about in reviews, and the server had to run to the front and grab them once she realized it was in the appropriate time frame (12-2 PM on weekdays). The lunch special for an individual was probably enough for two people, but we each ordered the meat lovers, which came with choice of broth, choice of noodle, and 5 kinds of meat: brisket, lamb, shrimp, chicken, and beef meatball. We both chose the house spicy broth so we got one medium bowl in the center of the table (but could have chosen two different ones, oops). We also got sides of cabbage and shiitake mushrooms. The broth was indeed spicy, and Eric R. wished one of us had a non-spicy broth option to temper our tongues. I got the house special clear noodle, and he got ramen noodles. The meats were delicious, and we got to choose 5 items for sauce making since the sauce bar is not available due to COVID. We got sesame paste, hoisin, sesame oil, chili garlic, and scallions. I mixed them up in a bowl and it was really delicious. It was a pretty epic, spicy, hot temperature wise meal and it was not always easy to grab a water refill. If you arrive between 12 and 2, ask for a lunch special menu - it really is a good deal because a la carte can be very expensive or too much food if you have a small group. We liked Lotus a lot and want to return with our spicy loving friend Grace L. next time we all caravan to KC together!

Tom yum, mushroom, house special broth

I give them 5 stars even it took a while to finally get some food. We got Tom yum, mushroom and house special broth. They're all so good but I only recommend the house special broth for people that can handle spicy food. You gotta get the crab Rangoon it sooooo freaking good.

What an interesting fun experience. You definitely should know what you like before going because it took us awhile to decide. There are things that people might not know on the menu. I tried different veggies that I have not had before. They were good. Tofu isn't for me though. They have the best crab rangoon I have ever had!!!! It was so good and I think the make the sweet and sour sauce there. It was a lot different than a Chinese place you can get to go food from. It was fun cooking everything yourself but might take little bit more time than a regular eat in restaurant. It doesn't take long to cook everything but the pot is only so big. You can get a smaller pot too and can cook more food at once. It was fun using chopsticks but I was getting little frustrated trying to eat certain veggies and I just asked for a fork. Ha. If you need tongs for noodles or other things ask for them! It was hard getting noodles out with the laddle. It can get little hot eating all those hot items and being around the burners and such. Dress somewhat cool if possible. (If winter then don't of course, but maybe wear short sleeves.) Be careful around the hot broth and such!! Some hot broth splashed on my hand and it got burnt a little so be careful! (I'm fine though, I was just not being careful trying to get noodles.) Especially with kids! Definitely will go again!

Let me start by saying that this place is al a carte AND that the chopsticks ARE NOT DISPOSABLE. The chopsticks are extremely long, I assumed they were disposable & asked my husband to break the ends off for me so I could eat better... come to find out they, are in fact, the restaurant cutlery. ‍ I felt awful. Anyway-- the food was good. It wasn't what we were expecting/hoping for, but it was good. If you're going with a friend or spouse, I would recommend doing the meat & veggie platter. It ended up being the perfect amount for us... & we EAT!

BBQ & Hot Pot at the same time. They only have couple of wait stuff for the whole restaurant, sometimes you have to patient. But friendly service with quality meat and food. The broths choices are great.. they are very tasty... in hotpot the broth is the most important thing and they do it right. Every broth we tried we loved.. my favorite is mushroom soup and five spice soup (I think) we goes back so many times. They also have fried wings with the great sauce

The region specific flavors were not my favorite BUT that's not to say you should not try. If you like spicy or variety of broth options - this is a GOOD option. Their closest competition is magic noodle, which also has delicious beef, hand pulled noodles, and a flavorful broth with add in options. My vote is still on magic noodle. We ordered the salted chicken and fried dumplings for appetizer. The chicken is served cold, in small pieces, with a red vinegar to dip in, bone-in. I could not find a piece that's wasn't mostly bone. And even when I thought I had removed all the bones, there were more - to get just a small bite. (I've had variations of cut up chicken with bone-in that were much easier to enjoy). Dumplings were good. For soup, I did original broth, beef flank, and egg noodle. The tray of ingredients that came to table has a variety of items to add in but it wasn't really explained what was what. The broth was hot but not steaming hot. Flavor-wise, I never quite hit a yum factor of this soup being better than other places serving noodle soups. Okay, what did I enjoy the most? Beef flank! This meat was tender and DELICIOUS. Truly, I think I could have consumed a whole dish with just this beef and left happy. My companion had the spicy broth with chicken and rice noodles. He enjoys southern Indian dishes where the spice level is hot, and this soup had him sweating.

The restaurant was very nice--tastefully decorated with authentic touches that felt intentional and refined. The large canvas artwork added character without overwhelming the space. It struck a perfect balance: elegant but comfortable. The staff was attentive, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were patient and accommodating, especially with our little one, which always makes a difference when dining out with family. We started with the sampler platter, which included fresh spring rolls, crispy spring rolls, and a variety of other traditional bites. Everything was prepared well--the fresh rolls were vibrant and clean tasting, while the crispy rolls had a satisfying crunch without being greasy. For entrées, my wife ordered the Vietnamese pork chop with the perfectly runny egg over broken rice. The pork was well-seasoned and cooked just right, and that egg brought everything together beautifully. I ordered the Bánh Mì and a bowl of pho. The pho had the perfect level of spice--balanced, aromatic, and comforting. The broth had depth, and you could tell it was crafted with care. The Bánh Mì was equally impressive; the baguette was toasted just right--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside--holding all the flavors together without overpowering them. What truly stands out is that Broken Rice delivers this level of quality without being overly expensive. It's a great value for authentic, well-executed Vietnamese cuisine. And most importantly--our niece enjoyed herself too, which says a lot. I would absolutely recommend Broken Rice to anyone looking for a satisfying, authentic dining experience in a warm and welcoming atmosphere

Three Bowl Restaurant is a relatively newcomer to the Lawrence food scene, but it's been here for…read moreawhile and the story is complicated. More about that in a bit. First off, it's attached to South end of the Asian grocer F-Mart, what I personally think is a pretty remarkable store for this town and one I value dearly. They're serving up a lot of food choices you'd normally need to head to parts of Kansas City to obtain. You can even pass from the restaurant right into the grocery. Convenient. What I know about Three Bowl: it opened right before the pandemic first hit in early 2020 and we began to hear about some spectacular versions of Szechuan hot pot being served. We had plans to dine with a party of 6, and a few days before we got the chance, everything began to shut down, particularly restaurants. Thank you, Covid-19. Fast forward. For all I know its been shuttered since, but on a trip to F-Mart last week someone at checkout said they were reopening for carryout. In place of hot pot, the tables, all with heating elements (what must have been a very pricey investment), sit unattended with a few diners interspersed around the room waiting for carryout on our first visit. We ordered Singapore Fried Rice Noodles, Combination Vermicelli and Vegetable Fried Buns. The portions are enormous. One entrée would have easily filled us both. A bit surprisingly, since the menu has clearly been toned down and simplified for carryout, the food was spot on, seasoned perfectly, and although the person who waited on us was apologetic ("sorry, we're running behind, slammed!", possibly a whole 5 minutes late from the time the Menufy app said. No big deal. I almost laughed. So here's the thing: solid, decent, though pretty regular choices from the online menu for this style of fare, but there are some real plans here for when we can all sit down in restaurants inside again. Right now they've chosen that's not a good idea based on the space, and I'm totally OK with that. I'll await the return of the hot pot, and can't wait to experience that. Meanwhile, the city has a good new choice for carryout or delivery (DoorDash) and if you're a fan of this kind of food, no reason to not strongly recommend it. I hoping for the best for them, and in the meantime, plenty of leftovers tomorrow. Oh, and those vegetable buns were something else! If you come: carryout or delivery only as of the date of this review. Credit cards accepted. Very limited parking in the lot shared with the grocery, maybe 6 stalls tops. All filled on our visit, but street parking available. Open Tuesday through Sunday 4:00 - 9:00 p.m.
