Buckeye is Georgetown. I passed by Buckeye hundreds of times going to the Rubicon from Auburn, but then we decided to stop by. After a wonderful dinner and both Patti and Randy coming to talk, on the way out Patti said, it better not be hundreds of more times till you come back! Well, it wasn't. We decided to leave Auburn and move to Georgetown, and we now live a 1/2 mile away. We have a standing reservation every Friday, our neighbors are there, we solve world's problems all with a cold adult beverage, great friends and owners we want to support. The steaks? Awesome. Very reasonably priced Ribeyes come with bread, soup, salad and tasty baked potato if that's your choice side. Make a reseveration. The owners make sure the dining room is staggered so that everyone is served without any delays. Do it, and you'll never sit waiting for seat, it's already ready for you. By having a reservation, a small business on the Divide can make they have what they need for dinner without waste. I love the history, love the old town feel and the sense of community. We have made Buckeye a "must go" for every time we're in the area, if they're open, we're going. Unbelievable experience every time we go, they're very welcoming and their food is always the best. The restaurant has a bit of a ski lodge vibe but the staff also make you feel like you're home for a family dinner. I have nothing but praise for them and their hospitality. HIGHLY RECOMMEND... We learned during our visit (recommended by a friend) that Patty and Randy have owned this little gem for 25 years and the food is some of the best we have have ever had. Everything was fresh and very tasty. The steak was an excellent cut of meat and Randy cooked it perfectly. It really was mouth watering. The Scampi was also delicious. Patty makes the corn chowder (which comes with the meal) and we literally ate every drop, it was so perfectly prepared. Salad (also included in the meal) that was cold and crispy and yummy. And the drinks were great too. And although short staffed post-pandemic, they managed (with the help of their amazing waitress) to pull off a truly wonderful meal. If I could give this place -5 stars I wouldn't hesitate. I have never in my life experienced so much hate and bigotry in the 30 years that I have been on this earth. I visited this crap place on Saturday with my husband and his family. I will give you a back story, my husband's mother is mixed, she is black and white, her mother, my husband's grandma is white. My husband and his siblings all have black fathers and I am black. I think you are getting the picture. We arrived at this place (to meet my husband's grandma for an early dinner) and my sister-in-law proceed to go inside to get a table for 9. She promptly came out and said that there would be a 2 and a half hour wait. The parking lot was completely empty, I mean completely empty! So my mother-in-law went inside to see what the issue was and she like my sister-in-law was told that there would be at least a two hour wait. We were all baffled by this. We had a feeling it was due to us being black but we wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt, therefore we waited for my husband's grandma to come to see if there is anything she could do. She arrived at this place, we explained to her the situation and she went in to get a table read more

I am not even going to waste my time writing a lengthy review for this place. I was forced to go here for my dad's birthday. Family planned dinner here for my poor dad and he just went along with it. The service was friendly but not helpful. Dad and boyfriend ordered filet for 25$. They asked for medium and got jerky. Were never asked how it was. Never even saw the waitress after we were served. My pasta was bland. Basically the food sucked. After we were done eating we waited 15 minute for check. No one came. My aunt tracked the waitress down and when she asked for the check she was told with attitude to wait her turn. Yeah never will be back. read more

Finally stopped in after driving by for four years. I had the Buckeye Prime Rib, wife had Ribeye. Very, very good. Comes with both soup and salad. Beef vegetable soup was tasty. The home made bleu cheese salad dressing was out of bounds. Very mild, with lots of yummy chunks. Baked potatoes were good. Service was top notch. I've had several experiences at the Buckeye, and won't be going back. With the exception of the taller, blonde waitress, none of the wait staff are friendly (unless you're a favored local) and generally couldn't be bothered to break a smile. The main dining room is dated, although the banquet room closeby seemed nicer. The stuffed human-size dolls they have leering at you are downright creepy. The food was a solid C+ -- not horrible, not great, and not memorable. The best experience I had at this restaurant was when I went with some long-term locals, and got treated well for the first time. Still, I'll take the extra 5 minutes and venture up to the Camp Virner. The food is a bit better, and the service is much, much friendlier. read more

My friend and I decided to stop here after a long day of hiking, when we arrived we waited at the hostess stand for about 10 minutes before any employee showed up, and only to be told very rudely that they were booked up! This was 8 at night and literally the entire restaurant was empty except for 2 tables!!!!! I call bullshit!!! She didn't even offer us a table in the cocktail lounge. Plus this restaurant is in the middle of nowhere....there is no way in hell that all your reservations were between 8-9(when you close). I don't buy it. The bad reviews I imagine are from people that are used to eating at a nicer place, in a much less remote area, or are used to be waited on hand and foot..... Your in the mountains here, we do things a little slower, so enjoy. Is the Buckeye a top notch restaurant you'd find in the city, no. Is it a spot favored by the locals, yes. I'm not a local, but I'm there all the time to see family that is, so I guess you could say I'm treated like a local, since that is where I do my boozin and dining. The buckeye is a little out dated in its decor, but that is to be expected up there. And it doesn't have a big city menu, that's not expected either. What is great about the Buckeye are the great owners, friendly staff, good food and entertaining locals. I've been there to many times to count and have always been treated well, and got exactly what I paid for. The owners are great people, and do a lot for the local community. Randy can cook a mean steak, and his prime rib is especially good. Patty handles the bar, phone, wait staff and the other tasks, and shes great to, shes a very knowledgeable sports fan, to bad shes a Broncos fan. Until recently when DirectTV began hassling them over their TV service you could always find sports on in the bar. I've watched many football games there and have always enjoyed Patty and Randy's commentary. As for the food.... like I said, Randy can cook some good beef. The salad is always fresh, and the soups are pretty tasty. On special holidays they always have something special to offer to make the dining experience just a little bit better which is nice. There is a little variety on the menu, but not to much, this is Georgetown, not San Francisco, so keep that in mind. The wait staff has always been polite and friendly and taken care of me and the group I'm in well every time. If your a local of course the staff is a little more friendly to you, they probably know you, and Patty probably knows your drink of choice. But if your not from Georgetown, you still get treated awfully well. The Buckeye is a great place to go if your in town and need to grab a bite to eat and wet your whistle, and chances are you'll get to observe some of the funny locals. Lastly, on some nights they also have live music, by a few local artists. read more

I love this place!!!!!!!!!!!! The food is spectacular and the staff are helpful with any questions you might have. The price is fantastic for the quality and amount of food you get. The rib eye is my usual go to but the Prime Rib melts in your mouth. The owners (Patty & Randy) are charming, they will always try to accommodate requests and when they can't, they do what they can to make your party happy. I recommend a reservation since the waits can be fairly long without one however if you have to wait there is a lovely bar area and patio to wait in. Everything about this place is warm and welcoming. I had no idea that they were there until my parents told about them and I was skeptical about a steak place so far out of town but I now would rather drive from Sacramento to Georgetown to eat there than to go to a local steak place in Sac. read more

Definitely one of the best places to eat on the Divide. Great atmosphere, beautiful setting. Have had prime rib, ribeye and coconut shrimp - all cooked perfectly. Usually prime rib is tasteless but not this one! Drinks are cheap and so is the wine. Corkage only 8. Service is always good even when they are busy. Real homemade deserts. My favorite thing is usually the soup, which is made from scratch and comes with dinners, along with a salad. It should be crowded all the time but it's not. We went for dinner last night... first the place is clean...not a spot of dust on fans and lights... The service was great. The clam chowder was great...salad was great...Steaks cooked perfectly... my New York had great flavor...The husbands prime rib was awesome not full of the fat you get most places. The price for the amount of food is a great deal...Go....Don't expect big city uppity service....expect small town down home friendly service...things might take a bit longer...but then why are you out in the sticks....smell the roses...slow down and enjoy....this was our first visit...and it wont be our last. read more

This restaurant is located in a beautiful forest 5 miles or so east of Georgetown. They have been there many years and kind of a locals hideout. If not careful you can miss it at night in bad weather. We went up in a snow storm not predicted and just added to the adventure. They have a weird reservation system where, if you call before 4pm you are told there is no mailbox for their number... call after 4pm and you are advised to come but they will have to "squeeze you in" which is typical old Georgetown. Anyway we showed and had a cocktail at the bar. Nothing is hurried so do not be surprised to wait a while as the owner bartender is hostess and also cooks, the one waitress served mostly the dining room. The drinks are reasonable and the folks were mostly locals and loved to talk to you. It takes a while to get served, no rush at this place but the Buckeye cut Prime Rib was great and not fatty like often encountered in some places. Plus they serve both soup and salad, a benefit most places do not include unless you pay extra for one. The menu is not posted online but pretty much has something for everyone including pastas and salads, You can have several types of meat including lamb chops and fish etc. They have a few specials posted even Lobster tail sometimes. If you know the whole area around El Dorado County and Georgetown you will appreciate this little hideaway place well worth the trip up there but be advised in the winter anything can happen. First time I saw lightning with a snow storm. Advice, make sure you call as they are often full up with local events like birthday parties and organization dinners. Call a day ahead and you will probably be squeezed in! With the scarcity of reviews one would think this place is not great but it is if you want an adventure and do not expect the flat-lander type hurry so often experienced in restaurants in the tourist places in larger towns. read more

The drinks are generous, and plenty of locals chatting up the evenings. Reservations are highly recommended as it is a small place with limited staff, be patient. I do not usually give five stars, but I am making an exception. I must admit for completely nostalgic reasons. From the moment we walked in I was transported to my childhood. I immediately craved a Shirley Temple and a shrimp cocktail. I'm not eight so I opted for a glass of house Chardonnay, but I was really tempted. Everything else was just how I remembered although this was my first time here. We have been meaning to come for years, but life happens. I am sorry we waited so long. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The bar was alive. The dining room was clean and nostalgic. I try not to eat bread, but I had to have a little. So good. Home made soup then a nice salad. Steaks were great. It was all I could do not to order some ice cream and coffee just like my mother used to do, but again I'm not eight, so I opted for another glass of wine. Love the Buckeye! The owners are great, although the staff could use some help with customer service. They hardly crack a smile, so you feel as if you are...unwelcome? Upgraded to 5 stars (from 4) We go once or twice a year for a nice dinner out. Love the food! Randy makes a mean meal. You get bread, soup and salad, then your meal and dessert! I don't usually get dessert and always take the leftovers home. I'm not big on soup but I always love whatever soup they are serving. Some staff has changed and now I see that most of them are just trying to be quite and unobtrusive. I'm a fan of rare beef and have never been disappointed in the way my steak or prime rib has come out, always delicious and cooked to perfection. I've lived in the area for 10 years, and whenever we have something special to celebrate, this is where we come. Great steaks, especially the Prime Rib. Homemade soups are great. The raspberry balsamic dressing is really wonderful, too. The decor is casual, but if you walk in dressy you won't feel out of place. The bar is really quaint and has lots of character. They even do karaoke from time to time...Small crowd of regulars here, so no nonsense (none happening, and if you bring some with you it won't be tolerated -- they will politely escort you back to your vehicle and give you correct directions out of town). Out-of-towners are very welcome though. They love to hear stories of where people are visiting from. And the mountain culture is prevalent here, warm and hospitable, so you're sure to enjoy and relax. Worth a trip into the mountains! read more

I've been dining @ the Buckeye for a number of years, so I am one of the " Pampered locals". The owners are great and the food is always prepared just right. This is one GREAT steakhouse! A rustic old building and extremely clean inside. Pattys soup was absolutely perfect. If I was married to that woman I'd weigh 600 lbs.
