I'm always in the mood for some deep dish pizza! I've been to the Lou's in Chicago, so I was excited to try the one here in Brookfield. I like that it's right next to the mall, so you can go shopping before or after your meal. I came for an early dinner on Friday, and luckily there was no wait. The tap water in restaurants in this area always tastes a little off, so I would recommend getting a different beverage. For pizza, I got the cupped pepperoni and sausage deep dish with the butter crust. Be patient while they make your pizza because the taste is worth it. The crust is golden and thick to hold all of the sauce and goodness. They are very generous with their toppings, which I love. The butter crust is the best part. It was perfectly cooked and crunchy. The service was okay. I think I got unlucky and didn't have the best server. I had to wait a while for my server to even come to take my order. When she came, she never acknowledge the wait. She simply said "Hi, what can I get you?" Meanwhile, the table next to me, who came after me, had a friendly server who came right away before my server and asked them how they were doing, etc. I will say, the restaurant's manager, came around halfway through our meal to check on us as well as other tables, so that was nice that he did that. I've had Lou Malnati's deep dish stuffed pizza in Chicago, and I wanted to try their thin crust, since Chicago claims ownership if thin crust pizza, too. I've only had thin crust from one place in Chicago, and I wasn't a fan. This one also didn't meet my expectations. The crust was very dense, while I prefer a light and airy crisp crust. The edges looked like it was baked in a shallow pan instead of on a sheet or a rack. The crust also had an orange hue to it, which must have come from the semolina flour they use in their dough. The sausage and pepperoni were average in flavor, likely from a large meat distributor, and the same applies to the cheese. The sauce, however, tasted fresh. It had a sweet tomato flavor, and was the star of my pizza. My server did a solid job. I'm assuming he had a few patio tables, because I didn't see him much in the nearly empty dining room. My table was really sticky, so they can do better with cleaning tables. It was a Sunday around 7:00, so maybe they have a lighter staff at that time. My pizza took 35 minutes to arrive, but there was a group of 10 people near me, so maybe not enough kitchen staff or oven space available to get a 10 inch pizza out in under 20 minutes, or maybe the thicker "thin crust" takes longer to bake. This is a review for carry out only but the restaurant side looked amazing and would love to have a sit down experience here as well. I called in my order, although online ordering is also available, and the order was taken quickly, covering all of the necessary details. I appreciated the option to have it cut or not as I wanted to keep it intact until I reached my home. 30 minutes until pickup (standard for stuffed pizzas) and it was ready as promised when I arrived. There is a separate door for carry out, clearly identified on an awning on the side of the building right next to the parking lot. Plenty of parking too. The staff was friendly and efficient when checking people out. Both times I've picked up my pizza the carry out section was a bit busy but moved fast. There are also a couple coolers with grab and go items like salads, desserts and drinks. The pizza itself was perfect, just as I remembered it. Went to Lou's with my family, for the most part I like what we ordered. We ordered a Lou's deep dish pizza. I loved the buttery crust, if I compared it to Giodiano's pizza, I would say Giodiano's pizza is deeper with more cheese and sauce. Other than that, it's the same to me. We also ordered a thin crust, I don't remember the name, but it has whole tomatoes on it. We didn't care for the whole tomatoes, which is weird, because I love tomatoes. It made the pizza too wet/soggy. My other suggestion is they need to give you refills better. the sauce on the pizza is delicious but I'm not a fan of the crust. this deep dish crust is dry and hard in my opinion, especially around the edges. I feel like I only want to eat the center of the pizza. the service is good and fast. I can see why the majority of the other locations closed (in milwaukee, oak creek and kenosha) because there's just so many other better pizza options out there. I got the giant cookie for dessert and after I ate it my daughter said "they didn't give you ice cream" she apparently eats here frequently and said the chocolate chip cookie is supposed to be warm with ice cream on top, so that was a little disappointing because the cookie was the best thing and it would have been even better with ice cream. I received a reward from Lou Malnati's for a free personal size deep dish pizza with a $10 or more purchase, so my wife got a thin crust pepperoni pizza to meet the minimum requirement. I got the Malnati Chicago Classic (sausage and extra cheese) deep dish and toasted cheddar cubes. The toasted cheddar cubes are awful. The name implies that they're at least adjacent to Wisconsin-style cheese curds and they look the part, but they had a foul tasting cheese spread inside instead of a piece of actual cheese. Leave it to an Illinois-based company to not get a cheese curd-like item right. If you're really hankering for fried cheese, get the mozzarella sticks instead of this mess. I've always found Lou Malnati's buttercrust to be a little bland, but there's no denying that the sausage and sauce on the pizza are top notch. My wife thought her pizza was ok, but could take it or leave it. For Chicago-style deep dish I prefer Giordano's, but don't want to drive to Kenosha where the closest one to Milwaukee is located, so Lou's is fine when the price is right. read more

It was definitely big enough and it was good, but I didn't think it was outstanding. The sauce was tasty, but I wish it had been a little sweeter. I have always been an old school thin crust pizza person without the waxy cheese. Just fresh cheese. So I did try this place and my goodness I was surprised. There is a bit of a wait, but then nothing is packaged in the making of your pizza. Fresh light crust ( not thick heavy stuff), and all topping not from the can or bag. I try to keep myself away as I know I would eat and of course my clothes would be much tighter....BUT then again the taste that makes you keep eating is worth it. Chicago deep dish is our favorite style of pizza, and Lou's has become our favorite deep dish restaurant. The pizza is consistently good with the same great quality, regardless of the toppings we choose. Our servers have been friendly and polite and make sure our soda is filled - which is a big deal to my husband. It does take awhile for the pizza to cook, and they tell you that upfront. So on this visit to the Brookfield location, I figured I'd switch it up and try the thin crust, hoping maybe that style would hit different. Unfortunately, it didn't. The pizzeria itself was clean, and the staff was friendly--no complaints there. Got seated right away and the pizza came out in about 20 minutes, which was totally reasonable. But once again, the pizza just didn't deliver. The biggest issue? It was seriously lacking flavor. The seasoning was so minimal that if there had been salt on the table, I would've used it--and I never do that with pizza. That's not a good sign. Even the sausage, which should've been a standout, tasted bland and unmemorable. I've now tried both deep dish and thin crust at Lou's, and I honestly can't see myself coming back. I went today to enjoy the fantastic happy hour that Lou malnatis ended up overcharging us and we had to wait over an hour and a half for a pizza that was smaller than my hand. Instead of handing me the pizza and asking for payment, the bartender kept it hostage for an hour and a half, waiting until we paid our bill online, which was already overcharged. Afterward, we were told to speak to the manager, who said, "If you feel like you were overcharged, let us know, and we'll make it up." I'm upset about the lack of response at the moment, the hour-and-a-half wait for a tiny pizza, and the poor customer service Lou malnatis failed to provide. No wonder these locations are shutting down across Wisconsin. I do not recommend. Don't waste your time or your money. read more

This would get 5 stars if I had known what to expect. I had no clue if this place was fancy or casual, I only knew that people rave about the pizza. It's casual. And that's fine. I love a casual dining experience. But upon entering it hadn't really hit me yet, I hadn't gotten my bearings yet, and the host barely look at us, never cracked a smile, never made eye contact at all. Between the time of meeting her, recognizing her level of professionalism, and surveying the dining room she was taking us through, that's when I realized "Oh, this is very casual." So, with that in mind everything was fantastic. The food was great (we had the meatball appetizer and loved it) and our server was very personable and professional. She was training a new girl so for that reason I'm sure she was giving 110% and I'm glad she did cuz we loved her. My grandma and I grabbed dinner before heading to a show. First off Lou Malnati's was very accommodating she has a walker so without even asking they changed our original table they were planning on sitting us at and put us at a booth, removing a chair from the table so she could park her walker. The salad notes on the menu it is enough for 2-3 people and it is! I personally don't like Gorgonzola cheese and they had no problem brining that on the side so she could still add it to her salad. Their salad is amazing! The garlic bread was yummy. The portions for our meals were huge! The pasta could easily feed two people. Super creamy very delicious! Took home lots of leftovers! The beef sandwich was also really good super loaded and again especially if you get salad and or appetizers you could share or for sure have leftovers! The fries remind me of these potato wedges I use to get as a kid at the grocery store and it was a great flash back! Very good! Very great price for all the food you get as well! Who doesn't love a good deep dish when near Chicago. It's a staple! We started with the garlic bread and it did not disappoint. Very cheesy and very garlicky! The deep dish was as perfect as usual. We get the sausage deep dish and it's always to die for. Layers of sausage and thick gooey cheese. The crust is just the right amount of crunchy. This restaurant was lacking in staff, but the service did not falter. It does take a while for the deep dish to cook which is not unusual. It takes time to cook deliciousness. Wow! I had forgotten how good Lou's are. The salad was huge and was covered in a sweet vinaigrette. It contained bits of tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots mixed into the Romain lettuce and had red onion and croutons on top. The pizza was outstanding. I ordered a small Chicago style. Crust is crispy, cheese next then sausage and lastly tomatoes. Each layer about a quarter inch thick (sausage smaller maybe 1/8 inch). It just comes together well and doesn't leak onto plate like some other Chicago style I have had. My husband and I enjoyed a pizza dinner with our adult kids. Tried the deep dish as well as the thin crust, and both were delicious. We were seated promptly upon arriving and sat in a booth. The restaurant atmoshere was cozy and inviting. The pizzas crusts did get a bit soggy after sitting for a bit, which wasn't my favorite thing. They were very flavorful, though, but would recommend eating it at the restaurant because it didn't fair well taking it home. We would go back and try some other menu options. read more

Bottom line LM was a huge disappointment. I have been to Chicago locations in the past but never in Wisconsin. The only highlight was our server. He was engaging, helpful, and checked in on us regularly. Calamari was dry and rubbery, Caesar salad was not over overdressed but also mayo forward. Pizza was flavorless. Tuesday at noon and we were one of two tables in use. But even though it was empty the service was slow and glitchy. And apparently, this was the perfect time to use a power tool behind the bar area. This was not what I was expecting. However the food tasted good. The lunchtime personal pizza was tasty, the chicken marsala had really good chicken and the beef sandwich, although smaller than expected, was ok too. The hit was the cookie with ice cream dessert. That was wonderful! So, a mixed bag, and I am not sure how they are staying open for lunch service. If you have a lunchtime time limit you certainly won't have to wait for a table. read more

I'm from the Chicagoland area, so I'm extremely familiar with Lou's. It's my favorite deep dish spot! My husband and I enjoy the fact that we can get it here in Wisconsin when the craving hits. It did and we dined here to get our fix. The restaurant was clean, our server was friendly, and the food was pretty good. I suggest ordering dressing on the side if you get a salad to avoid it being overly-dressed and soggy. We split a Caesar salad which was fresh and tasty. My husband got a sausage pizza and I got my go-to, the Lou. We both enjoyed our pizza, but agreed it wasn't what we are used to. I'm not sure if it was an off-night, or maybe it's just different tasting with each location, but it wasn't as awesome as normal. Mine was overly greasy and the spinach was sopping and overcooked. Oh Lou, you make me so sad. We tried carry out for the first time last week and to say it was a "fail" would be kind. I placed my order via the app, drove over and had a confirmation that it was ready. When you arrive you park, call in and give them your spot number. I did and was told my order would be right out. Well....15 minutes later I decided to go in because I didn't want my food continuing to sit. The person working the desk said she'd be right back. So I waited some more. We're now 20 minutes past the time the "your order is ready" message came. When she returned she said they'd given my food to someone else (!!!) but not to worry - they were remaking it and it would only be another 30-45 minutes. THAT'S A NO FROM ME DAWG so I asked for a refund which meant a manager had to come wasting another 10 minutes. In all I was dicked around for close to 1/2 hour and left empty handed. I get that mistakes happen but when your product takes 30-45 minutes to produce you'd really think the 5 seconds to check things would be worth it. Love Lou's! We got a salad that was fresh and crispy to start followed by the stuffed spinach bread. Honestly these two were both amazing and a full meal even sharing them both. We also got the pizza but forgot to take a picture of it. Overall the food was amazing! Admittedly the food came out a little slow but that's expected for a place that makes everything fresh - so it's definitely worth the wait. The service was great and the waitress was kind.
