I had so much Lou Malnati's in high school that I grew to really dislike the pizza. But now as an adult, my wife really likes it and I must admit, I too have grown to like it. However, I would also say I have learned how to kinda work the menu. For instance, I normally get spinach on my pizza but their spinach has to be frozen because every time I order spinach, the water seeps into the crust and it's a mess. They also didn't use to have low-fat mozzarella which meant their pizza always felt twice as heavy despite being thinner than other deep dish options. The pepperoni is good but adding the cupped pepperoni makes it materially better. They also get a bonus star from me for being one of the very few places to offer gluten free deep dish pizza. Outstanding Chicago Deep Dish Sausage Pizza. Crust was buttery and thin, perfect amount of mozzarella and fresh tomatoes, no sogginess, absolutely perfect. Salad to start (shared) was fresh and crisp. Only downside was no pitchers of beer, we did okay. Restaurant was nice, clean and not over crowded. Service was excellent. This pizzeria is fantastic! The seating area is a bit small maybe for 20-30 people. And the waiter was friendly and attentive. The mozzarella bites and the ravioli crips were a really nice start. The pizzas do take a bit to make so I recommend an appetizer. When the the food came in, the pizzas were amazing. If you like sweet and savory then get the Hot honey pizza. The pepperoni with the honey just gives is enough kick but not too overwhelming. They balanced the peppers in the pizza with the sweetness. I highly recommend this place. After narrowing down my pizza picks to two competitors, we tried the first down the street from Lou Malnati's and was left unsatisfied, so we went to this location right after to get our deep dish pizza fix. I like this location much better than the one by Grant Park or Riverwalk. There was hardly anyone here when we came around 3:30pm on a Saturday, so we were seated immediately. The space has a front room selling frozen pizzas to take home and the dining space was in the back. The Malnati Chicago Classic 4/5* Yum, this pie was oozing with cheese, fresh tomato sauce, and a slab of sausage patty like how it should be. The tomato sauce is scratch-made with chunky bits of tomatoes, but it was on the sour side of unripened tomatoes. You can definitely taste the sausage, which was well seasoned and had a perfect balance of saltiness. The butter crust is no lie! That crust was so tasty, buttery, with a slight crisp. The only reason this pie wasn't a 5* was because the tomatoes were a bit too sour for me. Service was great and they actually cut the pie and serve you, unlike the first place we went to. The only downside is they don't have any real bar, nothing on tap. Drinks are cans or bottles. Overall, solid pie, delicious crust. They have other yummy choices for their signature pizzas that I wanted to try like The Lou that had garlicky spinach or the Mike's Hot Honey. read more

Pizza lacked flavor. I was so disappointed. Came here from out of town for a quick lunch. We got personal pans because we weren't super hungry but couldn't not get pizza while in Chicago. The sauce needs some seasoning. The margarita pizza tastes like cheese on dry bread. The hot honey saved the other pizza making it decent. Staff was kind enough to get us a table quickly but we're not super attentive. Did not give us napkins and came to give a refill on drinks once. My husband, son and I split a large deep dish pizza and had 2 pieces leftover. My other son had a small deep dish to himself and finished it, but he is a big eater (football lineman). I'm not sure I would recommend this Lou Malnati's location specifically. The plates were dirty (had food crusted on it that needed to be scraped off). I got this on a late and stormy night. I had just gotten done from the gym and as soon as I stepped out I saw that it was pouring rain and lighting was striking all around. Luckily I had my umbrella so I walk to Lou Malnati's, it was a 30 minute walk and they were about to close in an hour. When I get there the girl who greeted me was very nice and she guided me through the menu and helped me choose on the veggie pizza. Lou's!!!! I have given you every chance to make things right for the past year now. There is a complete lack of consistency with the pizza. Tonight is my last order as it arrived with a completely soggy crust. I ordered it uncut and yet, it was not cooked through. I also always get the butter crust which hasn't been the same for over a decade. Zero taste of butter every single time. BLAND-cheese, ingredients, crust have all been bland and now they have proven they can't deliver a proper pizza crust. Ever since they sold in 2021, everything pretty much sucks. I absolutely adore Lou Malnati's, but not this location! I am betting that most people do carryout and delivery here because my dine in was not up to this company's standards. Please note that my "home" Lou's is the original in Lincolnwood. My main problem was that they do not have the cheese cubes on the menu, but instead have garlic bread which is served laughably on a baguette sliced in half. Like this thing coming out was a bit comical. I was also one of three tables in the restaurant and it took FOREVER to get my food. Now, I know that Chicago style pizza takes some time to cook, but this was even longer than normal. Plus, I got an individual sized pizza which usually is on the fast lunch special. In other words, I have a pretty good idea how long it takes to cook that pizza. I was almost late for the show down the street so the service here really soured my experience. I probably won't be back to this location, but will certainly be stopping by the OG place since they rock! read more

First time trying Chicago style pizza: what a positive experience! As a stalwart NY style pizza lover (born and raised), I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this pizza. I wouldn't say I'm a convert, but I feel like I've had an epiphany and can now peacefully coexist - even empathize - with deep-dish obsessors. :) We ordered a medium Buttercrust with (on my half) sausage, spinach mix, and sliced tomatoes. It was EXCELLENT, like pizza meeting lasagna: a flavorful crust just s enough to hold up, and layers of delicious filling (including great quality fresh mozzarella and a whole-plum-tomato marinara - not classic pizza - sauce). The sausage was uncased and [pounded] flat so the layering really was on point, making every bite was delicious. Spinach mixture was the most subtle of the layers but definitely a good option still. The pizza overall was just well balanced (and not totally loaded with cheese, which I definitely appreciated). 100% would order exactly this pizza again! We arrived around 5 and were seated right away. Table service wasn't particularly memorable (except that they were upfront before we ordered that deep dish takes 40 minutes, and they serve the first slices to you tableside). The restaurant was clean and tidy. We ordered just a medium deep dish and it was PERFECT for three (increasingly hungry) adults: everyone felt satisfied and full, but NOT overstuffed or gross, and there were no leftovers. 10/10 will come back again the next time we're in Chicago! read more

Came here on a Saturday evening with a group of 4 people a little before closing time and luckily was able to get seated fairly quickly. We got 2 small pizzas which was more than enough for the 4 of us. The Malnati Chicago Classic and The "Lou". I liked that we got to try both since they're so different from each other and went well together. The Garlic Bread and Caesar Salad went well with the meal too. The first young host we spoke to was kind and friendly although busy. The second barely even made eye contact. Our server was great and the other server that brought are food was very apologetic although had nothing to be sorry for! The place overall was small with limited seating but clean. We ordered BBQ boneless chicken wings and a large Malnati's pizza. The chicken was the highlight of the meal! It was tender, juicy, and the sauce was perfect. Our pizza was good, the sausage was tender and not over seasoned. The crust was buttery and the sauce wasn't too sweet. A VERY popular deep dish pizza place. Known bc there's also gluten free options for those people with restrictions. This place gets PACKED so either make an early reservation ahead of time or come early before the rush. We had reservations @8 pm and they didn't even have our table ready until 8:20 pm. So it's a lot of waiting and generally very crowded. As for the pizza, decent and came out fresh and hot. Before we sat down we were able to preorder our pizzas and were told it would cut about half the waiting time so that when we sat down the pizza would basically be ready. However , we did still have to wait quite a bit. Honestly I didn't think there was too much to it. I'd recommendation trying another local place if possible - there's lots to choose from ! read more
