Visit at this location on an early Sunday afternoon. The lunch crowded already died down so we were able to be seated quickly. This whole area has all new everything so it was great to see a nice new restaurant. We are originally from Chicago and couldn't wait to give this a try during our visit in Surprise. Server was very personable and friendly. He advised us against buying a large salad for just the two of us and I'm so thankful for the suggestion. The salads are absolutely huge. We tried the buffalo chicken salad with the watermelon and it was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the personal size deep dish pizza. This takes a little longer to cook and it is so worth the wait. They do offer fountain Pepsi products as well as beer on tap and it looked to be a full bar. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience. The pizza was not good at all, especially considering the reputation and price. It took about 45 minutes for our pizza to arrive after we ordered, which was a long wait. It also appeared there was only one server handling the entire restaurant. Despite being clearly short-staffed, the staff was extremely kind, friendly, and did their best throughout our visit. The bruschetta board was the highlight of the meal and was actually very good. So I will start with in the end, I appreciate the manager taking care of much of the bill. So this is the second time I have come here. I wasn't overly impressed on my first visit, but it was my son's birthday and he wanted their wings. The wings were good, but they struggled with the can we get one ranch and one blue cheese, we got two ranch. We got there and were seated outside only to be forgotten about for 20 minutes. I finally went inside to find someone and waited for a few minutes by the kitchen door because no servers were in the restaurant. When someone finally walked out, she offered to come and help us saying, "I don't think anyone has the outside as a station today". It was a nice spring AZ Sunday at noon, people probably will be sitting outside today. We gave her our entire order, not trusting they would be back to take more than our drink order. We did get our drinks, apps and salads in a rapid succession, but we also ordered 2 thin crust pizzas (we got the pan last time and they left something to be desired) and was told it would be about 35 minutes . We waited, and waited, and waited. I finally went inside after just over an hour to find someone (another challenge) to ask about our pizzas. He went inside after and came back out and told us they were almost done. They brought out my grandson's pizza finally and a personal pan pizza (which was not what we ordered). I shared this wasn't our pizza and the server apologized and took it back inside. Then no one... Finally, the manager came out and told us the pizzas would be ready soon. They had burned the first one and were remaking it. I had had enough. I asked that they take it off the bill and let us pay up and head out. He said it would just be a minute and they could box it to go. Again, I appreciate him trying to come up with a solution, but after over an hour and a half and no one checking on us with 2 infants and a birthday to celebrate, I was done. He finally returned with the pizza, and extra personal cheese pizza and a couple of desserts. He comped most of the bill (which I appreciated). Sat at the bar and the male bartender provided good service but one of the female bartenders was complaining about tips from customers within an earshot of us, not super professional. We went to this location on Monday, January 19th, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It was nice to be able to enjoy happy hour early in the week. We couldn't find the happy hour menu online, but we were able to view it in person before being seated. We liked what we saw, so we decided to dine in. Our waitress was Kelly, who was also the bartender. She was very attentive, friendly, and a pleasure to have as our server. We ordered two personal deep-dish pizzas for $8 each, a Blue Moon for $8, and a frozen panini, also $8. We also tried the Italian bites, which were good; however, you only receive three pieces. It would be nice if the portion were increased to four or five. I also think it would be great if a half order of chicken wings were included as part of the happy hour specials. I am so glad I was finally able to eat at an actual Lou Malnatis!! I've only had their frozen pizza flown in. Loved the ambiance.. went for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. Our group started with the Ravioli Crisps, Chicago-Style Meatballs, and basket of Fries. Then the group shared two personal sized pizzas from the Happy Hour menu, and the Malnati salad. All the food was good. The Chicago-Style Meatballs aren't really shareable for a group. It comes with 3 meatballs. I thought the basket of Fries was good value for the portion size. The group raved about the Malnati salad. You could easily share a family-sized salad between 4-5 people. The pizzas were decent - again I'm not the biggest fan of deep dish pizza, but they have thin crust options as well! The happy hour selections are plentiful and the price points probably beat many nearby competitors during that time. I prefer the classic thin crust pizza to the deep dish and taste wise it's very good and filling. Also the Italian beef bites are a unique item and a must try. I had very friendly service and banter at the bar each time I have visited, but giving it 4 stars due to the time it took for my food to come out on my last visit. I get for a deep dish pizza you need to wait awhile and they disclose the fact on their menu. However my thin crust took just as long if not longer. I would expect that to not be an issue going forward but worth noting. If you're a fan of thin and cheese this is for you. Everything I tried was delicious. Someone in my group missed the crust on the edge of the pizza but not me. Fill the toppings to the edge baby. We did a few build your own and all ingredients tasted fresh and they are generous with toppings. I love that our server was very nice and amicable but did keep us waiting a few times. They both loved the meatballs and the sauce. I ended up dipping my chicken in the sauce. The Caesar salad was really good. Wow the only time I've ever had Lou Malnati's is ordering them from Chicago and having them flown in frozen. Having them fresh at the restaurant far exceeded our expectations! We were lucky enough to have a meal here a few weeks back during the soft opening. We preordered our pizzas beforehand, so everything went smooth. Place was packed! Service was incredibly friendly, but a tad slow (understandable, first few days open, packed, busy, lots going on). We had a deep dish Lou Malnatis Classic, and a thin crust half cheese/half pepperoni/garlic. We had boneless wings for an appetizer, and our waitress inadvertently brought us out some mozzarella bites, too! Score! I have been to Lou's in other places before and have always enjoyed the Lou Malnati Classic. It has a ton of great sausage on it, pretty much a full sausage disk. Sausage in every bite! The butter crust is nice and rich. 2 pieces will get you full, 3 pieces will get you stuffed! We really enjoyed the thin crust, too. Its paper thin with a nice chewy dough. This is hard to write because I love Chicago style pizza and I've told so many people about Lou Malnati's because I've had amazing pizza here before. We ordered two pizzas - a small buffalo chicken on thin crust and "the Lou", large deep dish. The buffalo chicken was the absolute best I've ever had. It was tasty, well seasoned and they didn't overdo the hot sauce. That's why this is a 3-star review. The deep dish was another story. As you can see from the pictures, it looks nothing like the menu or most of the other deep dish review pictures. Despite having picked up the pizza within about 5 minutes of the scheduled pick up time, the cheese toward the edge of the crust was exposed, minimal and somewhat hard like it had been sitting. There was much less sauce than I've ever had on any Chicago style pizza (hence the exposed cheese) and the crust was bland like it was missing salt. The pizza didn't shift in the car or anything like that, it just missed the mark this time. I'm hoping this was a one off since this experience was nothing like my previous Lou Malnati's experience. We just went in today however to see that all prices have increased by 60%, they decreased the happy hour time and cut the menu in half.
