Nice homey spot! We went for an early dinner and only one other group was there, so it was very quiet, server was very nice and attentive. My partner and I are Lao/Thai so we were excited to try this place out. We ordered nam khao, mok pla, and chicken laab. The mok pla was the best - great flavor and tasted like home. The nam khao had good flavoring at baseline, but it wasn't mixed up great so the crunchy parts were in big chunks. Also it was super sour, wasn't a big fan of that. The laab was our least favorite - very soggy and not flavorful at all. Overall I liked the place and ambiance (loved the Thai music playing, great playlist!) and would come back, but maybe try other things on the menu. read more

My family and I ate here two nights in a row. The food is just so delicious! We got pad thai each night and it's seriously our favorite. It's so flavorful with strong tamarind notes (I think I've described this enough with my previous reviews lol). We also ordered the Louder Clear Crispy Rolls, pineapple fried rice, sticky rice, and grilled chicken. The crispy rolls, though fried, actually provided lightness as it comes with large lettuce leaves and herbs. The pineapple fried rice was savory and I like how the rice was a bit sticky. The grilled chicken came with a sweet and sour sauce and a fish sauce. The waitress suggested we get sticky rice with it, and that was a good pairing. The sticky rice came in piping hot and it was comforting with the savory/smoky chicken. The Kao Piak was such a comforting dish. The broth was clear and thick due to the pork, and took on its flavor. The handmade noodles were thick with a bit of chewiness. The fried garlic chips were a nice surprise when I got it in my spoon. I didn't even know this was a soup - the menu just described it as a noodle dish. I'm not a soup person but I'm so glad it came this way. And the golden tofu was crispy on the outside and fluffy and airy on the inside. Service was fast and friendly as usual. The ambiance is super casual. The chairs for the regular tables are stools, so I think it really is meant for quick dining. The high tops are bar stools as well. But it's not like they're going to rush you out - I'm sure you can stay there longer if you want to order more food. Plus, with the TL the way that it is, you probably don't want to stay after it gets dark. I was quite excited to hear that there is a new Isaan / Lao restaurant in downtown. There are many excellent Thai restaurants in SF but sorely lacking good Isaan / Lao in the city that are authentic, bold, pungent, funky and just be themselves. I thought this was going to be it, but no. I've had the spring rolls with peanut sauce (summer rolls) and tam mak hoong (som tam Lao/ Laotian papaya salad) first and then would try something else. This Thai restaurant needs more love. We came here for lunch and it brought us back to life after a night out in the city. We were hungry, so we ordered many things, so we had a variety of food. Out of the many things we ordered the larb salad was the best. We also had some grilled pork, this weas my second favorite item we ordered. Honestly, everything was good so you cant go wrong here. Recently known as Typhoon, Louder is good Thai food. Have tried appetizers, noodle and soup dishes. Tom yum and pad Tai are good . They are literally right next door to me (I can see their sign from my apartment). So I can tell that they do a lot more delivering than dining in. There are about 10 Thai Restaurants within 4 or 5 surrounding blocks, probably more... They don't have the Ped Sawan, red curry duck. Which is my favorite Thai dish, so that is a let down. Service is fast and pleasant but the decor and ambience is just so so. A nice place for lunch but not fine dining. There are much nicer places in the Richmond District for an evening dining experience. read more

This is a sort of restaurant that I've seen more often lately: a Lao place that is starting to unmask. That is, one that would call itself Lao if doing so weren't such a huge risk with people not knowing the cuisine, but now Lao cuisine is getting its own section on the menu. And think about it. Louder. Lao-der. First, the inside is very clean and feels intimate with decor that tells you that the place is something the owners treasure and want to make amazing. I only got takeout but the service was quick and they went above and beyond to make sure the transaction was as smooth as possible. I got two things: the pad mee Louder and the nam kao tod. Both were ordered low spice level; I'm thinking that may have hurt the one dish severely and intend to go back when I don't have to get it toned down for somebody else. I say that since the pad mee struck me as pretty basic. The dish you'd get for the person who doesn't really want to try anything new. I was disappointed by that one. But then there was the nam kao tod. If I'd just gotten this I'd have gone straight for five stars. Vibrant, a variety of textures and flavors, and something you're probably not getting at too many other places. It's worth coming here just for that. But I'm certain it's worth coming here for other things too and I intend to come back since it feels like this place deserves that fifth star. read more

I visited for the first time since they transitioned to the new Thai-Loa style. The food was truly authentic and delicious. I had a wonderful experience, and everything was so so goood. My favorites included the Special Mix Papaya (Tum-Hlao), which was the best I've ever had, along with the crispy roll salad, crispy rice salad, and Mok-pla. The owner is super nice, too.
