This is a beloved restaurant that is a cornerstone of the Demun neighborhood. The ambiance is dark and elevated with real candles dotting the tables. The noise level is moderate. Louis was a national finalist for outstanding hospitality at the 2026 James Beard awards, but our service experience was quite ordinary with no mention of the anniversary we were celebrating. The food was a good 4/5 with dessert being the star of the show. - House white wine: pleasant, light and fruity - Burrata special: their large, creamy burrata is flown in overnight from Italy and also found in their sister market Box Hill Grocer! It was complemented by lots of grassy olive oil and some crusty Union Loafers sourdough - Pappardelle bolognese: light noodles with a salty, cheesy and meaty sauce. At $29, the flavors were good but did not wow - Roasted chicken: the sous vide chicken was very tender with crispy skin but lacked chicken flavor and was heavy on the salt. The rapini was surprisingly delicious, with a well balanced bitterness - Ice cream sandwich: really delicious, interesting and creative with the macarons. The crunchy poppyseeds bothered my partner but we both loved creaminess of the almost mocha-flavored ice cream - Espresso martini: well balanced Reservations are recommended! It is possible to get a spot on the day of but probably not at an ideal time (9pm or later). There is a side parking lot. Overall, dinner at Louie was good but did not blow us away. I would be interested in returning for a seat at the bar in view of the pizza oven. I've heard they have a fabulous prosciutto and shaved Parmigiano Reggiano appetizer topped with Eckert's peaches during the summer.
Louie has been on my list of restaurants to go to for a really long time! We received a gift certificate to Louie for Christmas from one of our daughters and her husband. They also gave us a list of their favorite menu items. That was the sign that it was time for us to go! We were lucky and found a great parking spot. It was a nice night and a lot of people were in the area. We were greeted warmly by a few people at the hostess stand. Our table was almost ready - literally maybe a two minute wait - and then we were seated. It's not a huge space, but they make the most of it. The place was full! Our server was Josh and he was great! There were a number of people that came to our table throughout our two hours there. Drink delivery, food delivery, Amanda (one of our very favorite servers we met at another restaurant), water pourer, table cleaner, etc - lots of staff taking care of everyone. We dropped utensils a few times and someone on staff was there replacing it before we even picked it up off the floor. We're not THAT clumsy - the tables for two aren't large and it was easy to hit a utensil unknowingly! It's a little loud in there due to the size of the space and the number of people they can seat. It wasn't annoyingly loud, but louder than some places. We ordered our cocktails and then started trying to decide what to order. Josh went over the menu with us, told us about some of the items in more detail, and told us about the specials. He was super knowledgeable about the entire menu. He also had a fun personality. Focaccia and olive oil were brought to our table. It was literally the only thing I didn't like there. I love focaccia, but it was served almost cold. I prefer it warm. And this wasn't room temp - it was very cool. We started with Prosciutto di Parma. Because peaches are in season, it came with fresh sliced peaches and it was delicious! Without the peaches, I think the prosciutto would have been too salty for me, but I'm salt sensitive. I had the Roman Gnocco and it was very good! I brought half of it home. My husband got the Sweet Corn Ravioli. It was a special and it was delicious. It was the perfect summer entree! We had an ice cream sandwich for dessert and wow! It's absolutely not like one you've had before. I was already full, but I made some room! In addition to the food and cocktails being so good, the staff were fabulous! They didn't miss a trick. Someone always noticed everything! And the food they took from me to box up was kept somewhere else until we were ready to go. It was brought with the bill. It was labeled with our table number and what the contents were. Was it a big deal? No. Was it very thoughtful? Yes. We didn't have a box sitting there while we enjoyed dessert and finished our cocktails. My only regret is that we had not been there before. The food and service are both top notch. We will most definitely be back!
Louie is one of my favorite restaurants in the St. Louis area. The atmosphere is cozy yet elevated, making it perfect for a date night or dinner with friends. One of the standout dishes was the prosciutto and peach appetizer topped with generous shavings of Parmesan. The combination of salty prosciutto, sweet peaches, and nutty Parmesan was fresh, balanced, and something I'd absolutely order again. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and the quality of the ingredients really stood out. Between the fun atmosphere, attentive service, and memorable food, it's easy to see why Louie has such a great reputation in Clayton. I'll definitely be back to work my way through more of the menu.
Louie is quite literally one of our favorite St. Louis restaurants. We love to celebrate milestones and bring friends here to show them how special this restaurant is to St. Louis and to us. All of our Los Angeles friends love Louie. Jordan is the consummate professional that adds flavor to this fabulous restaurant. All the staff is attentive.
A very cute spot for dinner! Nice street parking offered outside that typically is not too busy. The restaurant is small smaller but they pack a lot of people in so it can be a little noisy, but it really has a nice vibe in plenty of space if you want us to sit at their bar area as well. The staff was very friendly and walked through the menu and all of the specials of the night. I liked their structure of ordering in courses. This is definitely a place to share your meal items and try a lot of things with your party. They also have a great drink menu and their espresso martini was especially tasty! I also loved their focaccia bread! We tried the brussels sprouts as an advertiser, which were very tasty.
I love Louie! We had a reservation, almost a must! Jordan was our server; he has been around forever and is the best. Since I had a driver I ordered a drink, I got the El Tigre, I really enjoyed it. Mezcal, blood orange, lime, angostura. If you are at Louie, you must get the brussels sprouts! They are perfectly seasoned with lemon and caper, I get them without pecorino and I love them. The cauliflower Fritto with Dill Aioli is perfect to share, its a little heavy to eat all on your own. The Dill Aioli is just the right tang! I almost always get the fish special and tonight was no different! It was cod with cripy shallots on a bed of squash, so good! If I don't get the fish special I now I can't go wrong with the Roast Chicken or the Grilled Pork Chop, Service fantastic, food superb, drinks delicious. You can't go wrong with Louie!
Forever my favorite and the best place to spend a birthday! We were lucky to snag a reservation far in advance, and it is so worth the wait! Liz was our sever and was absolutely wonderful. We split an Italian salad, salsiccia pizza, and bolognese. All were fantastic and added to the elevation of the evening. The wine selection was great, and I was also brought out a birthday dessert. I believe it was the panna cotta. Will always love returning!
Absolutely gorgeous interior, the white fish (cod) was INSANE. Flaky, flavorful and fresh. Service was impeccable, and the bread was hot and fluffy. I have zero complaints and it was definitely everything I expected from a place that was so hard to get a reservation for! The hype is worth it.
There is nothing I can share in this review that hasn't been said thousands of times over. Alas, I will still share: Louie is THAT place. The hype is real. Execution is real. Service is second to none. I went solo on a friday night mid rush and they opened up an extra spot on the bar for me (i am not sure if they do this often, or they just were very generous). In any case, I had a front row seat to the pizza. Absolute masterclass. A delicate art behind the hands of a young man taking no shortcuts. Prosciutto, and pappardelle. Those were my dishes. Those were THE dishes. The prosciutto absolutely melted in your mouth with the salt of the Parmesan sending a perfectly salty funk. The pappardelle was insane. Pasta was cooked to perfection behind a rich, hearty bolognese. Not too heavy, but enough weight to keep you feeling full and satiated. The service was incredible. Genuine hospitality behind a perfectly paced meal. The ultimate date night spot. This place is sexy, moody, alive. None of my words are original, as everyone knows Louie is upper echelon. So, at the very least i hope they continue to guide those who have never been. Best of luck getting a res, my recommendation is no matter the time book it and love it
This just couldn't wait! Finally landed a reservation to experience all the rave and guess what?! Drum roll pease.... Louie indeed knocked my socks off'! From start to finish I thoroughly enjoyed my time. Danny was an award winning host; offered a warm greeting and kindly accommodated a slight seating modification at my request. Liz, LIZ. Lizzzzzzz!!!!! Was an absolutely amazing server. Just let me say; service has severely declined these days and sadly I've gotten somewhat complacent with that. However, Liz turned my frown upside down (literally). Such a pleasant personality, recommendations were on point and overall service throughout our dining experience was superb. I'm very particular about my Manhattan, Liz relayed the proportions to the bartender who whipped up the perfect concoction. Highly recommend the octopus of that's your thing. The sweet potosi ravioli was delicious. Oh, can't forget the Brussels....so flavorful with just the right amount of char. Last but not least, the dining room is lovely. Offering an intimate low lighting ambiance it enough to still lay eyes on tour dining companion(s) while conversing. Too a large space but the tables are spread a part nicely enough for privacy. There's also outdoor seating (heated of course) should you wish to take in the De Mun evening scene. In summation, Louie understood the assignment. I'll be returning asap. ~Christy
This place is perfect for a girls night out, a date, or just a fun dinner with friends. It's tucked away right next to Sasha's so keep an eye out for it, but once you're in you'll understand the hype. The lighting is super dim and moody! Sets a nice tone. We had reservations and I am so glad we did because even on a Monday night this place was packed. Definitely book ahead. The white bean hummus was a 10 out of 10, the brussels sprouts were classic, and the bread they bring out is something else entirely. It's seasoned and served with olive oil and it's just chef's kiss. We got wine to share for the table and the waitress always checked in to pour us more. The specials that night were standouts too. The butternut squash ravioli was so delicious and the only complaint I have is that I wanted more of it haha! A fish special my friend ordered also was delicious. And the margherita pizza, simple as it is, was just so satisfying and done really well. Our waitress was young and super friendly, and the whole vibe of the night just felt really warm and fun. I also noticed they have mocktail options on the menu which I am excited to explore next time alongside their cocktail list. Definitely coming back.
Super great place. Biggest stand out was our amazing waitress who was well versed on the menu and fun to talk to and quick with her service. All the staff we interacted with were great. We sat outside, we had a reservation for 8:30 but showed up around 8 and they were able to seat us pretty quick on the patio. The cocktail menu had a great selection. I got both a paper plane and a gimlet, both were delicious and I would come back for drinks in a heartbeat! We got the octopus as a starter and that was the let down of the night. I've never had octopus before but my friend has and said this wasn't very good compared to other octopus dishes they've had. Really not that bad though just not as great as we thought it might be. For dinner I got a seasonal ravioli and my friend got a different pasta dish. Both were good. Both the octopus and the pasta dish my friend got were big servings, the seasonal ravioli wasn't a large helping but it was plenty to fill me up. The patio was nice and I'd love to sit inside in the future because it looks great from all the pictures I've seen, but seemed a little loud when we stepped inside to talk to the hostess.
Our cozy spot at the bar provided excellent service and a wonderful spot to soak up the warm vibe. I don't believe we could have gone wrong with anything on the menu. And. Wow. The burrata app was outstanding. End the meal with the Ice cream sandwich - the crunch is delightful.

It's good, but my experience was nowhere near "blow your mind amazing" as many had me believe. It's decent as a neighborhood or date night resto. Service is friendly and casual. You're referred to as a "friend" by the server. Not much desire to re-visit in the near-term. Perhaps we didn't order the right combination of items. We were also served stale/hard bread so first impressions were mediocre at best. Polenta with mushrooms - ordered as an appetizer which was a pretty good decision! topped with a generous amount of fresh grana or parm and the polenta was extremely creamy and tasty. The generous amount of earthy oyster or shiitake mushrooms made the dish for me. Probably our favorite out of dishes ordered. It's laughably pricey for $24, however. Pappardelle bolognese - Pappardelle texture and consistency was intriguing. It reminded me of good wonton skin consistency. This is such an odd description for a pasta but i mean it in a very unique way. I expected pappardelle to be extremely firm and with decent thicc-ness. Louie's pappardelle was thin but with good firmness. The bolognese was extremely meaty and rich with no balance of sweetness and acidity of the tomatoes. Could only eat a few bites before taking the rest of it home. Margherita pizza - Good quality ingredients, crust had a major flop factor. While it was good, it was also not memorable. Such a great spot for date night or a fancy night out with friends!! The vibes are immaculate - super moody and dark inside, nice decor. Amazing service, quick, informative, kind! The cocktails were sooo good!! Stronger than I expected but didn't taste like it! Aka the perfect cocktail (for me :) ) The pasta dishes were delicious! Wonderful flavor! Overall great food and service with a hip and dark romantic vibe. Reservations recommended and be ready to spend a little dough. This has been on my list to try for 2-3 years and finally went for a special occasion. Coco was an amazing bartender with great recs! Everything is good and buratta is exceptional. So is the complimentary focaccia - it was towering and the tallest I've ever seen. We walked in on a Friday night at 5pm and next available 2 top was 630 at the bar. You need a res here or be prepared to wait. We were willing to wait so went to Barrio nearby for pre-drinks. I will say the hostess was very well trained and explained that while the restaurant looked empty that it would be entirely full in 30 minutes. She was pleasant, she was right, and she was great at her job. I really enjoyed the bar seats once we were seated. Then again, I always love sitting at the bar. I ordered the Pork chop (cooked perfectly) with Shishito peppers. Wife had the gnocchi but it was more like mashed potatoes on top of a Ragu. I would try a pasta dish next time but couldn't pull the trigger for the $25 butter and black pepper pasta special (Cacio e Pepe). I get that it's hand made pasta, probably with imported butter and cheese, but that seems like a pretty high mark up without a protein. Panna Cotta desert was well balanced with crunchy caramelized nuts, a fruit sauce, and not too sweet. Nice ending to the meal. 1 Appetizer, entrees for two, 2 glasses of house wine each, 1 dessert, 1 coffee plus tax + tip = $170. About what I thought it would cost for a nice night there but just FYI. What a treat! My friend who lives St. Louis sent me a list of a few restaurants that she likes in St.Louis before I left Philadelphia. This was on the list and was my first choice. She called immediately for a reservation and they were full! (This was 3 weeks in advance). She finally scored two bar seats on a Monday night and after dining here, I understand the demand for a seat in the place. The interior is beautiful with hanging plates on the walls and quirky antlers placed about. We also spotted a bear theme which created so many points of interest. The servers at the bar were so good and helped stear us in the right direction with regard to our order. I opted for the special...ravioli filled with pureed peas in a cream sauce with mushrooms and delicate peas throughout. My friend ordered the chicken and as many chicken dishes that I've eaten, this one stands out. It was juicy, brined and the jus was incredible. I must mention the octopus for our starter. It was in a bed of delicious, spiced chick peas with chunks of potato. This was so delicious! The flavors were so good and the char on the octopus was perfect! I recommend the house red for an accompaniment to dinner. This place is a star. When I travel back to St. Louis I hope to get that same bar seat and order up more delights. read more

Was excited to try out this place! I walk by DeMun quite a bit and always see that it is bustling with people so was excited to finally try a restaurant here. Called in a few days beforehand for a reservation. They were pretty full but was still able to make a reservation at 5:45 on a Monday night and it was nice that they called us again to confirm the reservation. - Complimentary Focaccia - This focaccia was actually very good, I especially like the slight crystallization of the top of the bread. The inside was also really fluffy too and I appreciate them giving us part of the bread that is on the side of the baking sheet because that's definitely the best part of the focaccia. - Pomodoro Fresco - I thought this pizza was okay but I did appreciate how bready the dough was which made for really great last bites. I did enjoy that the fact that the garlic wasn't overpowering, it seems to be roasted and went really well with the heirloom tomatoes. - Cod (Daily Special) - Definitely the star of the night. The cod was extremely tender and fresh, maybe the freshest I've had in St. Louis? I also loved the seafood soup which went well with the couscous that was so full of flavor it felt like pasta? Overall, fantastic meal, and the servers were so incredibly nice. Definitely not a cheap meal but if you get their daily specials, you will not be disappointed! read more

The food was absolutely astonishing as this was my first fine-dining experience. We went for a 3.5 course meal (app, unexpected half-meal, entree, and dessert) with some wine. I'd say the wine wasn't my favorite but I'm inexperienced when it comes to wine so I cannot fault them for that at all. The atmosphere was loud and happy. Music was nice, albeit pretty loud at some points. Expected for a late Friday night. My only complaint was their insistence when it comes to making sure I kept my reservation. The octopus appetizer was very tender. Cooked well, not too salty but slightly too oily. The roasted chicken was extremely tender and delicious and a generous portion! The focaccia bread that was complimentary was large and served with olive oil. The poached halibut special I combined it with their polenta for an up charge and it was very light and delicious. Our server Courtney was very pleasant and attentive. It's a nice low lighting little date night spot. Had a romantic yet casual vibe. We ordered a large margherita pizza to go. Louie is a charming spot nestle don't he heart of Demun and is one of the places that makes St. Louis cuisine so dynamic. The restaurant is very cozy and welcoming, and I suggest wearing a formal outfit when dining. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The eggplant dip and hearth bread was phenomenal--especially the bread. It was perfectly fluffy with a warm flavor. My only problem was the Roman gnocchi was very salty and lacking flavor. The Panna cotta had a pleasantly fragrant taste of wine and light texture. The rest of the food and drinks were great. Although the the menu is quite pricey but the quality of food makes up for it. Just make sure you reserve in advance because they're almost always busy! read more

Wow! This place was so good! And so much food! We went here on a double date and I had been looking forward to it for weeks! It was little hard to get in but a Resy alert did the trick in no time. The space is really fun with a mix of contemporary and old-world styles. The large pizza oven in the back is also cool to see up close. The bar spans the whole length of the restaurant and seems like a fun place to hang out. To start, we got the Prosciutto and Parmesan half portion, which was more than enough. The Prosciutto was perfectly thin and delicious. We also got the fried cauliflower which was a big and heavy appetizer. The Dill Aioli was really good but I would probably skip this and instead indulge more in the focaccia table bread that was served. For dinner, I got the Roman Gnocco, which was kind of like a small Italian potato pie. It was different but definitely not pasta. Others got pizza, chicken (amazing and massive chicken), and Pappardelle Bolognese. All the dishes were of ample size and finished/plated really well. The meal was pricey but well worth it. People say that this is the THE Italian spot in Clayton and I would tend to agree. Everything, including the drink menus, was executed with a lot of care. Definitely try it! read more
Came here the other day for the first time and I'd totally come back here again! We ordered a lot of their specials and they were so good! Started with the peaches and prosciutto and it was so fresh and tasty. We also ordered two of their specials, the halibut and the corn ravioli and id definitely recommend to try! Went to Louie on Thursday and got the butternut squash ravioli topped with so much greatness as you cal tell. Was a great fall dinner with a bottle of red to go with it. And, obviously, you can't take me anywhere without ordering burrata as an appetizer. The app was amazing and a great cheese fix For anyone in need. read more
Excellent meal and service. The venue is bit loud but it is also intimate. All the food was excellent. I adored the prosciutto and Parmigiano Reggiano appetizer. The meat melted in my mouth. The broccolini appetizer was equally good. I could have made a meal of that alone. They had a halibut special the evening we visited and it was very well prepared. My only quip was that the complimentary focaccia was too salty on top but that was a minor issue. Dessert? Yes. A sophisticated Ice cream sandwich! read more

Not many places I would book an 8:30 dinner reservation but with Louies it is a yes! No wonder Drake visited twice when he came to stl. The cozy atmosphere, delicious food. We did a lot of apps and shared some mains- the BREAD is so good!!! Highly recommend- even if you can't get in til 8:30 it's a lively time inside read more

I wanted to try this place after being told they had good pizza. My friends and I came for dinner today (Saturday), and was "welcomed" by a very unfriendly host with pig tails. Her first question after her greeting was " are you at the right place?", as if we randomly stumbled upon this restaurant. Anyways food was good hence my 2 stars place felt very classist.
