This is one of my favorite spots in St. Louis. If I have an out-of-town guest I'm trying to impress, we're going here. The food and service is phenomenal! You can't go wrong with their pizza. I've had the margherita and broccolini. Broccolini pizza was different (you won't find this anywhere else in STL), but delish!! The tomato in the margherita was incredibly fresh. I felt like I was in Italy! Their chicken gets rave reviews - I've had it, and it's great - but my favorite thing to get here is the mussels. Omg. The sauce it comes served in is amazing. If you like Brussel sprouts at all, you MUST get these. They're literally perfection. Stellar drink and wine selection. Arguably the best restaurant in St. Louis. Drinks are delicious and the array of food options presents something for all tastes. Trust me on this one: order the white bean hummus as a starter. Visiting the area for work, I relied on reviews to choose a spot for dinner. Louie had good marks and the neighborhood was really cool. Dining alone I chose to sit at the bar to eat. Servers were very friendly and quick to offer menus and water. From that point on, I felt very rushed. I barely took a sip of my water before a waitress asked if I'd decided on anything. I ordered a cocktail then perused the menu. Before my cocktail arrived I was asked twice if I'd decided on dinner. I had barely looked at food offerings. Drink arrived and was told there were specials available. I took all of that in and sipped my cocktail. 2 different waiters asked, again, if I was ready to order. So I did. I asked for 2 items and requested one before the other. I was brought bread and before I knew it, both of my food items arrived at the same time! Each item came with massive amounts of bread and my space at the bar was so crowded with items I could barely reach my drink! As I began to taste my food, I was continually asked by the staff if everything was good, did I want anything else, etc. This continued the entire time I was there. I felt so rushed it was almost uncomfortable! While the staff was nice enough, they really needed to back off and let me enjoy my meal at a leisurely pace. Finally, I asked for the remaining food to be boxed up and for my bill. What should have been a relaxing, solo dining experience turned into a race to see how fast they could turn over the space at the bar. Mind you, it was not packed by any means. In conclusion - food was 3.5 stars, atmosphere was loud and lively but servers needed some lessons in reading their patrons and giving them space to breathe! read more

Every time, Louie goes above and beyond. The quality of the food is phenomenal. I sadly have poor memory so I cannot recall everything I have tried there, but I know I have had the pork chop and ravioli which made me cry out of pure happiness. Now, I have never been a fan of ravioli, but when I tried Louie's sweet potato ravioli, I was at a loss of words. Never have I tried something so smooth and delicate, I was certain it would taste super sweet and mushy like most sweet potato foods; however, Louie's raviolis were driven to perfection. There was no one over-powering flavour. Everything, from the sauce, to the almonds, to the ravioli itself were well balanced and played off each other nicely (I felt like Remy from that one scene in Ratatouille where he eats the strawberry and cheese at the same time). Cocktails and wines are superb. Jordan always suggests the best wines/drinks, I have full faith in anything he offers. Atmosphere wise, I could spend the whole night there. It's dark (in a good way) and intimate allowing for you and whoever you are with for an amazing evening. Not too loud, nor too quiet. I've been on a quest for many years now to find the absolute best wood fired Neapolitan style pizza since The Good Pie closed several years ago. Well, I found it!!!!Absolutely top notch margarita pizza just like you'll get in northern Italy. It's got it all, the chewy crust, "00" flour from Italy, the san marzano tomato sauce, the fresh basil, and fresh mozzarella. Kudos to the pizza chef, our server Pockets couldn't have been nicer, they both actually go out of their way to ensure your experience is the best it can be. We ate at the pizza bar which only added to just how good the pie was. I paired the pizza with a nice dry Cabernet from Italy as well. I'm gonna be back there very soon and often. read more

I am basing this review mostly on service as food and ambiance were nice. We went at 5:30, no reservations, party of 2, mostly hoping to grab a spot at the bar. There was a 75 min wait, no problem. We were seated at the bar slightly before 7. We were greeted immediately by a bartender to take our drink order. I have never been before so wanted a few minutes to look over cocktail and wine list. I was asked 3 times within 10 mins what I was having. I felt rushed to make a decision and this theme continued through the visit and worsened with dinner. We ordered appetizers when our drinks came. We were asked at that time to order food, I chose to wait until our appetizers came. We were asked once more to order while waiting on appetizers and again as soon as they arrived. We were reminded on cook times of entrees and in total asked FIVE times for dinner orders. That is borderline harassment. The entire evening felt pressured and rushed. In total we had appetizers, entree and dessert as well as several drinks and spent under 2 hours. I prefer to take my time unless stated that there is a time limit which I would have appreciated knowing prior to deciding to eat their. I have been given a 2 hour time limit and respected that but never felt as pressured as I did at Louie's. I was pleasantly surprised by a lot of things tonight at Louis restaurant! First of all, the setting and the atmosphere were sooooo nice. It's perfect for a date night! I really love the design and the decoration of the place. I did not expect that looking at the pictures on Yelp and on Insta. I think those pictures did not fully express the whole vibe of the place. Secondly, I expected the portions to be quite small from the pictures but oh boy it was huge! The pizza is definitely for 2 persons (well at least in my opinions). Entrees were really big as well. We ordered a Heirloom tomatoes pizza and Chicken broccolini dish and we were so full! I recommend ordering an appetizer/small plate and a pizza/entree if you are a table of 2 with a small appetite. I gave this place 4 stars because I thought the food was a little salty for my taste (maybe it's just how Italian food is so this could be my personal preference). The ravioli was great and the sweet potato filling was so smooth and creamy. However, once I tried the pork chop with blistered shishito peppers and Chermoula, it was over. The pork chop was simply amazing. The flavor was intense and fantastic and the pork chop was super thick, but tender and perfectly marbled to give it unbelievable flavor. I never order pork at restaurants, but I would absolutely order the pork chop when I go back to Louie and I will go back!! Been to Louie for both lunch and dinner and had an exceptional experience both times. Service was top notch. The burrata is to die for on the lunch menu. We came early on a Friday night for dinner and got seats at the bar without reservations (bar spots definitely fill up fast so we recommend a reservation if possible). We sat at the back of the restaurant by the pizza oven. It was cool to watch the pizzas being made! We started off with the mussels which were amazing (along with the house-made bread for dipping in the sauce). I had the sweet potato ravioli in browned butter. The portion didn't look big but it was actually really filling. My husband had the gnocco which was a little rich for me but very flavorful. The pana cotta was the perfect mix of winter flavors. The pita was fresh, hot, and puffy. Cauliflower was perfectly fried. For me, the dip was okay. Our entrees were the Gnocco and the Pappardelle. The Gnocco was very rich, of which we were warned by our waiter. I wouldn't have been able to eat much of it, but my kid loved it. My Pappardelle Bolognese was delicious.
