Ate at this restaurant about 7 years ago for a work function and wasn't impressed then but my husband wanted to go this time. We got there about 5:15ish, we were seated right away. Sat there for 15 minutes while three other parties came in after us and were seated and served! We still hadn't seen a waitress. I got up and went to the front to ask for a waitress to come to our table..there were 4 people standing behind the counter chit chatting..the women who seated us just stared at me and didn't say a word. One woman asked if everything was ok and I told her we have been sitting there for 15 minutes with no one to serve us. There were plenty of servers! After that our server was EXTREMELY RUDE and unfriendly!! Apparently if you are not a regular that's how you are treated. You could tell almost all the people in there were regulars and the wait staff was very friendly and chit chatty with them! Even sitting at the table with them! The bread had no hint of garlic..it was thick and flavorless, the lasagna was extremely salty and very greasy. My husband got the breaded chicken parm..which was dry with just a piece of cheese on the top, no sauce. Needless to say, we won't be returning. Apparently asking to be waited on after waiting 15 minutes and watching 3 tables being seated and served that arrived after you is frowned upon at this establishment. Louis is a classic dating back to 1958 and is a staple in the North Broadway community. They have wonderful appetizers, and of course traditional Italian dishes. Always good food we've been going there for 30 years. The spaghetti is always good. And I like the salads and the bread.

We picked up a to-go order for dinner. I had the baked spaghetti with meatballs and my wife had the regular spaghetti. We always get extra meat sauce which comes in handy to add to next day leftovers. Louis is a longtime favorite of ours. We came on a Sunday at 12:30 PM and it was busy! There was about a 30 minute wait and we were asked to wait in our car or outside and they would call us. While waiting in the car, we tried to decide our meals, but we waited since their menu was a little confusing. We saw pictures of a Sunday menu and wanted to make sure the menu wasn't different. Well, they have a Sunday menu and their full menu served on Sundays which makes choosing food harder! Everything sounded good! I decided to go with a Southern classic and my husband went Italian. They gave generous portions at a great price. We were sooo full! We didn't have room for dessert, but when I heard they offered complimentary rice pudding, I couldn't say no! The food is very old school sloppy Italian-American fare but you can tell it's low-quality. The onion rings have no seasoning on them whatsoever, and the garlic bread has no garlic flavor. Service and the location are great, don't get me wrong, there's a reason it's a Knoxville institution, but it's not up to snuff anymore. We had a gathering with about 25 people in attendance tonight at Louis on Broadway from about 7:30-10pm. We were in a private banquet room, and the room was perfect for us. We had one server assigned to our room; her name is Ouida, and she did NOT mess around. She made sure everything went well, that the food and drinks flowed smoothly, and that we were all taken care of. In addition to the large party, she was also subjected to me fumbling around on the guitar and bellowing out Christmas songs, and she was awesome! Went with staff's suggestion of combination plate vs baked ravioli/manicotti. This restaurant was clean and seemed like an well organized as a business. The wait was on the longer side, but we were okay to wait. The menu and food is...very interesting. Definitely not what we expected. We've had authentic Italian food, American Italian food in our life, and the food here is like neither. Maybe country Italian. Or Appalachian Italian. They don't have wine. Their garlic bread is strangely sweet and fluffy. They don't have calamari. The salad is nice and fresh, so as their dressings but the selection is quite old school. And it comes with saltines crackers. Breading on the onion rings and chicken is thick, hard, and brand. Their meat sauce is very salty, but edible with enough cheese. I was surprised to get seated so quickly because the parking lot was packed but it's a lot bigger inside than I imagined. They have lots red cozy booths and tables in the middle. I got onion rings as an appetizer because it's one of the things they're known for. They were really big and freshly made. I ordered the baked lasagna and my daughter had the baked manicotti and raviolis. This also did not disappoint! My wife and I came here on our date night. We were looking for something "original", different, and good. I'll start by saying that I will not be back. The restaurant is not conveniently located. The parking is just off the road, so it is hard to get in and out of spots. The waiting room is surprisingly undersized. The dining room is old and outdated. The food is amateur. The salad was served on small bowls. It tasted worse than Chinese restaurant salad. I ordered what tasted like a cheap knock off of skyline chili. My wife's lasagna was soupy and wet. The water was definitely not filtered (a pet peeve of mine). Only by request did they bring out "garlic" bread. The bread didn't even have a hint of flavor. I know that might sound a little crazy but I grew up eating Louis just like my mom also grew up eating Louis. To me, it is the ultimate comfort food and always delicious. Out family favorite is the veal parmesan but other favorites include chicken parmesan, baked spaghetti, and the combination platter. Homemade french and ranch dressings mixed is always the move for the salad. Yes, it's simple shredded but is always fresh and crisp. It's not "fine" Italian but it sure is good and even better as leftovers (just ask for some free extra sauce when boxing up). No liquor license but you cab always bring in your own wine! read more

While in Knoxville for work a couple local employees brought me here for lunch and I'm glad they did. Even for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon the place was pretty busy but we had no issues being seated and quick service. The waitress was great and very attentive. I had the chicken parm lunch portion which came with a big portion of spaghetti and garlic bread. Needless to say I left fat, dumb and happy. Food was great, service was great and I look forward to eating here during future trips to Knoxville. I've eaten at Louis' for over 40 years. During COVID it's been a mainstay for my family; a break. I must be old but common manners and courtesy are gone. The customer service that was always present he's given way to long hold times and attitudes of, "whaddya want." I was asked to hold after telling the young lady I wanted to place an order to go. Future minutes later, a young lady picks up and goes back through the whole new call routine. I restate what I am calling for and she responds with, "Yeah. Whaddya want?" Louis is a great place to eat spaghetti. Thats usually all I've ever ordered. Tonight I thought I'd try something different and ordered the seafood platter. That turned out to be a horrible decision. This seafood platter was probably one of the top 3 worst meals I have ever eaten in 49 years. I eat out probably 10-12 times a week so thats a lot of opportunities to have bad meals so for this to be on my top 3 worst is saying a lot. Waitress said it was going to be a lot of food. It wasn't. It consisted of 2 breaded flat shrimp or some type of imitation shrimp meat, one flat, flounder fillet that was hard and dry, 3 fried oysters that was just mainly hard batter, onion rings (best thing on the plate), one stuffed deviled crab which i couldn't bring myself to try (my wife did and said it was not good), and there were supposed to be some scallops but they didn't bring any on the plate. When the waitress came back by I asked about the scallops and she looked at me like I was crazy and said she'd check. Several minutes later she came back with 4 fried things that looked like over fried tater tots. Absolutely Horrible. Just sitting here typing this makes me almost sick. It was one of those bad meals that has probably turned me off from going back even though the spaghetti is actually good. Who knows. When I paid, the hostess asked me, "was everything good"? I said, "everything except the seafood". She didn't skip a beat or respond in any way and just kept processing my payment. I am giving 2 stars based on my experience with MICHEAL ONLY! The food in this restaurant always deserves a 5 star!! I have been going to Louis as long as I can remember and have always loved it and the service. Louis has always been very gracious to help with schools and the community especially with the owners having kids that went to school close by. This was Saturday, June 17, 2023 I called an order in of two kids spaghetti (one with pepperoni and one with meatball and we ordered kids because we knew we wouldn't be able to put any left over's away due to not going home for a while). I ordered an additional regular size spaghetti dinner. This was approximately 2:00ish. This was a pick up order for my mom for her birthday. The young lady on the phone who took my order repeated what I had ordered for confirmation. We pick up the order and head over to my moms house. I normally check my orders anywhere I go but I didn't for some reason. We get to my mom's house and the order had three of the kids size spaghetti instead of two and a regular. Ended up giving my mom the one with the meatball because there was significantly more spaghetti in it than the one that was supposed to be regular size. We finish at my mom's house and I pulled the receipt to see if I was only charged for 3 kids by mistake. The info was on on that receipt as it was only the signed credit card copy. So I call the restaurant just to double check and see if we were only charged for the 3 kids or if we were actually charged per my order. If so, I was just going to see if they could refund the difference. Not a big deal at all, wanted to double check what I was actually charged for before mentioning what I had actually ordered. The young lady was sweet and put me on hold to check. Next a gentleman (not a very nice one) named MICHAEL picked up and I couldn't tell if he was there for me or just picking up the line. So I asked and he said that the girl was trying to tell him and he decided just to get the phone and figure it out himself. That should have been a clue as he was already a little disrespectful in speaking about an employee to someone over the phone. So I told him what I ordered and just wanted to check to see if I was only charged for three kids or if I was in fact charged for 2 kids and a regular. He confirmed I was charged for what I ordered. I explained to him the above. He immediately started arguing with me and told me I was wrong that he made it himself and that he knew the regular had significantly more in it than the kids and stated it was a lunch portion. I told him I didn't order a lunch portion I ordered a regular one. He again said he made it himself and he knew for a fact there was more in it. I told him that he was wrong that the one that was supposed to be regular had the least in it and we ended up giving the kids portion to my mom since it had more. He yelled at me at telling me I obviously was not understanding him. He then angrily yelled and said "fine, what do I need to do to make you happy so we can fix it then!" I told him that I just wanted the difference of a kids to a regular. He said he can't do that without voiding the whole thing and then I would have to give him my card over the phone and he would have to redo it or he could put my name down and next time we ordered they would replace the spaghetti. I definitely was not comfortable at that point giving him my card information as I did not trust him with it after the way he spoke of his employee and definitely how he spoke to me. I told him he could just replace it. He took my name and said he or Danielle would be the only ones to fix it when we came in. I have never been spoke to in such a manner as MICHAEL did that day. He was rude in regards to his employee and angrily rude to me as a customer. This was a simple call just to check and see if they could refund the difference, nothing else. I was not calling to demand anything, I was basically calling to double check what was charged and what should have been charged. MICHAEL turned it into a huge ordeal that should have never happened. Had he listened to me to begin with instead of insulting his employee and the customer being so immediately defensive, argumentative, and yelling, I would not be writing this review. The family that owns this restaurant are amazing and in all my years of going to Louis, I have never ever had an experience like I did on this phone call. If MICHAEL is the manager, he may need to go through additional training on customer service. Instead of just a few dollar refund he has cost this restaurant an additional meal. read more

They claim to have been around since 1958 and always seems packed for dinner, so we decided to give them a try. Very disappointed! My "salad" was a bowl of pre-shredded lettuce with a cucumber slice and small cherry tomato. The cheese sticks appetizer came out at room temperature, and the garlic bread was obviously not made inhouse. While the baked spaghetti w/meatballs looked great, there was absolutely no flavor beyond the cheese on top. To be honest, I find Fazoli's has much better quality and more flavor even though they are considered a fast food chain. read more
