We had been seeing this place pop up on my feed for a while, so when my friend group and I were in Detroit we wanted authentic Detroit style pizza, so this was the obvious choice. We made sure to get there right when they opened and there were already people trickling in and the waitress mentioned the locals come so regularly it's basically a habit at this point. We ordered three different pizzas for 4 people. They have premade options but you can also build your own with toppings. Everything was delicious and exactly what we expected from Detroit pizza. The inside has this really fun retro vibe with wine bottles decorations. It is a great place for any occasion, families, date night, a big friend group, or even coming alone for a bite. Would recommend if you're in the area and want the real deal.

Best Detroit style pizza I have had. We ordered cheese and cheese/pepperoni pizza. They put the perfect amount of cheese on top with a delicious sauce and yummy crust. The service was quick. We called and ordered curbside takeout. As soon as we arrived, they came out to the car. Highly recommend.

First stop on my Detroit Pizza crawl. Second review as I wanted another to compare to. Absolutely fantastic pizza. When I couldn't decide, server recommended a half and half of the meat lovers and pepperoni/mushroom. I managed to stuff myself with 3 out of 4 slices of a small pizza but if I had someone with me, I would have split the pizza and salad potentially. Super friendly service. Great total experience.

Loui's was a childhood favorite of mine, but I hadn't been in years! We ended up going on a Friday night, and even though the parking lot was absolutely packed, we ended up getting seated right away. The ambiance is exactly as I remember it being. Cozy, familiar, and casual, and the staff was nice and welcoming. I ended up ordering the small cheese, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza with a side of ranch. It was the prefect Detroit style pizza, with crunchy edges and a fluffy crust. And, there was a perfect amount of cheese, sauce, and toppings ratio. The prices were decent and the service was fast. I'm glad I gave this childhood favorite another go!

Some of the best Detroit pizza, mediocre service, and a stale cannoli. We dined in, and for an old place with character, I will say it was quite clean. We had a large pizza and brought home the other half for lunch tomorrow. It's a good value. The cannoli we brought home and ate nearly immediately was stale and soggy. We will probably order takeout next time and skip the cannoli.

We wanted good Detroit style pizza and that's what we got. We did a to go order but the inside is a fun looking place. Service was great both at the ordering counter and the outside pickup. $20ish for a larger very cheesy pepperoni pizza with those classic crispy cheese ends. I wish we would have remembered to order a side of sauce because there's never enough on a Detroit style for our liking but it was yummy!

I really appreciate the system they have where you can call in the order and drive up to pick it up. We ordered one cheese and one pepperoni for pickup. It took about 25-30 minutes as made fresh. They do ask your make and model of your car so that they can associate your order. When we got there, a server came out to our car without us having to call. She was super nice and let us know that they marked the pepperoni pizza with one slice on the corner on top. The people that ate the pepperoni pizza loved it and I enjoyed the cheese. I do feel like I wanted more dough and sauce ratio as I just felt it was mostly cheese. Maybe with more toppings the ratio changes. I did enjoy the flavor though! The larges feed a lot of people because the sizes per piece are hefty. The pizzas were also nice and hot, which is a huge bonus because we also had to bring the pizzas back to the house for others. All in all, I think I just like more sauce and fluffy dough as this was a little dense and heavy. I would absolutely go back though.

I stopped in for lunch and was glad I did. I got lucky with the parking (it's limited) and found a booth immediately. After a couple minutes, my waitress came and greeted me and I had my food ordered within 5 minutes. As others have said, total blast from the past in here. Very unassuming interior which I can appreciate. My order came out in just under 30 minutes. It was not too busy when I was there, so just a head's up. I ordered a small meat lovers pizza. It was pretty fantastic. The exterior cheese crust was one of the best I've had. Plenty of toppings and lots of cheese. The structural integrity was a bit compromised (I get whey they give you a fork and knife, but Detroit Style pizza is meant to be raw dogged) which made a couple slices tough to eat. Also, these are big slices. I mustered through 3 before tapping out. Going back to the pizza, everything worked so well together and I liked the heavy amount of cheese on it. The bottom crust didn't have a ton of flavor, but that was not noticeable but for a few bites so not a big deal. Overall, I highly recommend Loui's. Better than Michigan and Trumbull (it's close) which many regard to be a top spot in and around Detroit. Very good experience.

I'm not a Detroit style pizza fan, but it was insanely good. They were able to accommodate our party of 10 on the spot, as well as the several pizzas we ordered. My favorite part of any pizza is the sauce which was very fresh and robust. I would have loved to take home another pizza, it was that good. And our waitress was very funny and hospitable. Loui's is a medium-sized dining room with one TV and a laid back environment. It can get loud as there isn't much to soak up sounds, and voices bounce off the walls. If you're willing to venture outside the city, Loui's should be on your list of eateries to visit. This place was recommended to us by a local.

It finally happened. After scouring all of the metro Detroit area for a few years now, trying the so called "best" Detroit style pizzas and failing time after time to be impressed by Detroit's own namesake....ive found the one. Enter Loui's !! Hazel Parks iconic old school pizzeria. What an interesting vibe we got going here. I instantly feel like I've walked into a scene out of The Godfather. No this isn't 1980, but the character remains on full display. A great Detroit style is a delicate balance of thick crispy crust and high quality ingredients. Where most others fall flat, Loui's gets it all right. Sure the pepperoni under the cheese is a little different, but that's more aesthetics. What most stands out is the cheese itself! Clearly the highest quality of Wisconsin brick on full display, and plenty of it. It's a distinct flavor that instantly dances on your tongue! Loui's is the real deal. Now let me be clear....this is not the best Detroit style in the entire country, but it is without a doubt the best in Detroit. And to think this was the last place to try on my list. I guess they say save the best for last?!

I really enjoyed our dinner here. We didn't hold back and ordered pizza, salad, and cheese sticks. I literally cannot praise the cheese sticks enough. They were amazing. The pizza is great and really filling. I think I only ate 2 pieces. We definitely had plenty of leftovers to bring home. The ambiance of the place has a real nostalgic charm to it. It feels like a slice out of the 70s/80s and that's part of the appeal of eating at Loui's.

I'm always skeptical of places claiming to have the best Detroit style pizza. I'm usually left underwhelmed but Loui's pizza is the exception. It's worthy of 10 stars. Absolutely perfect Detroit style pizza with the best tasting crust. It's thick but cooked thoroughly where those caramelized edges have a nice crunch. We got our pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom. Their sauce is delicious and had the right amount on it. Now let's talk about the cheese. Our pizza had so much delicious cheese on it I thought I died and went to cheese heaven. Even splitting the small pizza my friend and I couldn't finish it and took half home. We also shared the small antipasto salad and that was another winner. Big chunks of meat and cheese and thick tomato slices. Their Italian dressing is in-house made and excellent. The ambience is old school Italian. Dark wood paneling, basement bar feeling with bottles of Chianti you can sign and they hang on the walls. Our bartender told us not much has changed over the years and I like that. Next time the pizza craving hits I'll be calling on Loui's to answer the call!

Great throwback of nostalgia. My guess is Lou's Pizza has been around for at least 50+ years. The place is like a Time Machine! Solid antipasto salad. Solid spaghetti. Solid deep dish square pizza. It's heavy. But solid. Hot and gewy. Eat it with a fork style hot and gewy. The place fills up fast and you have to wait in your car till your number is called- so get there before 630pm. One of the best classic Detroit style pizza restaurants around! read more

This was hands down the best pizza I've ever had. We got the pepperoni and cheese, and a mushroom, pepperoni olives and peppers I also liked that they bring your pick up out to your car and you don't need to go inside. My wife and I were also big fans of the antipasto salad dressing. read more

Okay so I can officially say Detroit-style pizza is not my #1 pick. THAT SAID, Loui's is very good pizza. Excellent cheese, amazing crispy crust, decent toppings, not much sauce. I guess I'm just a bougie-toppings, thin-crust gal. The antipasto salad was good enough but nothing special -- helps you feel less guilty about the rest of the meal. There's also some hot beef sandwich special which was okay. The ambiance in here is definitely weird (in a good way). No updates for several decades and it doesn't need it. Service was good. Our server knew the ropes and even chased us down outside after we left our to-go box. (Would have been a shame too because this is some expensive-a$$ pizza.) Keep up the good work, Loui's, and folks -- go here if you dig Detroit-style. read more

I ordered ahead and had to wait a solid 20-30 minutes for the pizza to be brought out for curbside pickup. The positive is that the pizza was piping hot and fresh! I ordered a 4 square (small) 1/2 cheese and 1/2 pepperoni. This is a typical Detroit-style pizza and had a thick, bready crust/base with caramelized edges. The edges were a bit dark and teetered on the edge of tasting burnt, but also gave the pie a nice flavor. The crust could have been a bit lighter/fluffier for a full 5 stars! read more

Delicious Detroit style pizza!!! We wanted small and happily found that we can do half and half for even the small pizza. So we each got 2 slices, and we got full for having one each and took the others home. I like the meat lover a lot, good portion of all kinds of mean, and the cheese, wow, tastes SO GOOD with everything. So glad we came. AMAZING pizza!!!! Wow! There isn't another pizza place like Loui's! The sauce is so tasty, but my favorite part of the pizza is the fresh mozzarella! And for all you ranch lovers... their ranch is . The salads are good too! We always make sure to order the cappelletti soup. Omg, the flavor is incredible! The charm of this family owned business is welcoming as well. I highly recommend you make the drive to Loui's. Even if that means you are driving an hour to get there. I'm telling you, it will be worth it! read more

I went to Louis for the first time last Sunday. Parking can be an issue, lot was full but luckly found a spot. Was able to sit right down. No one greeted us for at least 5 or 10 minutes. The restaurant itself is nice. We ordered a medium antipasto salad. and a large pep mush onion pizza. It took about 15 minutes to get our salad. then the bad wait. It took them at least 50 minutes to get out pizza. The salad was great, and so was the pizza. But the wait time was terrible. I will not go back to dine in again. I would rather get a carry out. And it was NOT extremely busy so I am not sure why it took so long to get out food. Otherwise the food is very good. read more

My brother in law loves pizza! He lives in Chicago, so he knows what good pizza is. He recommended this restaurant awhile back but I finally got a chance to try it out. We ordered the antipasto salad (the individual one was big enough to share between 2-3 people). We also ordered the large meat lover pizza and had more than enough to take home. All the servers here were extremely friendly and just a great atmosphere all around. The pizza was so good; my fiancé said it was one of the best he's ever had-- crunchy crust, super cheesy, and awesome sauce! If you're ever in the area, definitely check this place out! Food 5, Service 0. Waitress came by twice, each time apologizing for not bringing our waters. Had to have another waitress bring us a carry out box. When we finally told the waitress we had been waiting over 10 minutes to get our bill, she snapped at us and said we'd have to wait 10 more minutes. Finally had another waitress bring us our bill. If I ever go back and see her, I'll be walking out. Do yourself a favor and stick with carry out! read more

Wow-this is iconic joint and I love joints-heck-I love Loui's but everyone can have a bad night and they had one tonight. Sad thing is I got myself really upset and now I won't return. Sigh. I was totally ok with waiting 40 minutes for a table. I got there ahead of my group to do so. I am okay with sitting and waiting 10 Minutes to park. Expected to. I am Content to wait 20-30 minutes to order. I know they are busy. 20 min for salad not bad! So yummy. 20 more for pizza-what we figured no worries. 45 minutes after we asked for the bill-begging for it. Then asking. 4th time for boxes-pretty heater now. Final straw off with my credit card for 20 minutes. Nope! My entire family left 30 minutes before me. Nope. Do t have to tell me again. Sad. read more

I can't believe I have never reviewed this place before. It's a cultural icon. Pizza and antipasto salad are the best around. It's a bit different as takeout, so make sure you put the salad in a bowl and toss the dressing around before serving. It's the first time in a while we have had Detroit style pizza that was cooked properly. For takeout you pay over the phone and they bring it to your car. read more

Really good pizza! Deep dish style. Great service. First time here, the Waitress was attentive and helpful. Our food came out pretty quickly and definitely fresh. The crust on our pizza was really crispy which was amazing. Really enjoyed i 2 main issues were- 1. The menu. The menu is really outdated. There's many things that aren't on the menu that luckily we saw other people order and we asked about it, or else we wouldn't of known. Example- Cheese bread or BBQ pizza. The bbq pizza, which they stickered onto the menu and only some menus. There were 3 menus already at our table, 2 of them didn't show the new pizza. So you can tell the menus were really old. There's no appetizers on the menu but they do have some... We got the Italian cheese bread (which we saw a waiter walk by with) it was amazing! The place has a full bar and can make many drinks but they don't have drink menu or anything, except for a small section that states "we make frozen drinks" and the small table menu shows a few beers they got. Really wished the updated there menu with more details of what they had to offer. 2nd issue- the most annoying buzzer which you heard throughout the restaurant letting the waitresses know the next food order was up. It rang 5-6 times! I am sure everyone heard the buzzer go off the first 3 times and didn't need to be rang so many times. And it was every time an order was ready. So you can just tell how many times we heard it while eating. read more

This is my favorite place to get Detroit style pizza. It always comes out hot and the crust is perfectly crisp. The pizza selection is very basic, which I prefer. Their salads are good and their house dressing is tasty. I also like that the pizzas aren't too pricey. Definitely worth the ride to Hazel Park! On my last trip, (I've been here several times) I ordered a 4 square with pepperoni, onion, mushrooms, and green peppers. It's was delicious! read more

Found this gem after traveling to Detroit for a football game and looked up a few pizza spots that were high rated im glad I ultimately chose loui's just what I expected from Detroit style which is my new favorite style of pizza I ordered a large pepperoni and shared with 3 other friends everyone absolutely loved it that first bite made my travel worth it only thing I would have liked to see is wings on the menu but pizza was so good who cares lol im probably just being greedy anyways overall I was impressed and would recommend to anyone in Detroit and surrounding areas. Detroit-style pizza & greek salad. I would drink their greek dressinf its so tangy I'm obsessed. Our Pizza was baked perfectly and the crust was just right. I'm a fan and our waitress was on top of service. We went early beofre dinner time. Be careful what space you choose in the parking lot tho, you could get blocked in. read more

If this is Hazel Park, then everyone e k ows it's the best pizza in Michigan. Wait times are not long , the staff is friendly . Don't forget to tip the car side service.! Never have I gotten a bad pizza that I can remember. Prices have gone yp so.e but it has every wjere abd it's always packed because it's worth it. Cool atmosphere inside they do serve more than pizza. I've only had the antipasto salad, which for me is very basic, like a 3.6 out of 5 stars. But the dressing is a 5 out of 5 .they have beer and wine, too. I'd love to gatekeep this jem but then I'm too proud it's in my neighborhood to not boast at every chance I get. read more

They say they are award winning Detroit style pizza. I say this is one of the worst square pizzas I ever had. The pizza was served warm, few toppings, no taste. The service was horrible, very little parking. Very loud dinning area. They were very busy, packed into dinning room with little elbow room. I will never go back. I don't think it would be too hard to find a better pizza. read more

This place seriously makes the best pizza in the world. I tried a lot of different deep-dish pizza, and Louis's is the best. It is not even close. The tangy sauce and savory cheese make it better than the others. The beef sandwiches are great too. This place is definitely a hidden gem. The old-school decor makes this place feel like a great casual place to hang out. I get great service every time. I recommend to anyone who is new to the are or just visiting to try this place over any other pizza places. read more

Among the positives I have two negatives, both of which are not adequate enough to lower their star ranking. Firstly, it took around 20-25 minutes to get our food after ordering. I rarely hold timing against a restaurant as having worked in food, I know lunch rush exists and things happen. To mitigate this (for those in the area) I believe they have an online ordering system, which I would recommend utilizing! Secondly, they do not have indoor seating, so it is a very grab and go type establishment. This is counteracted by the multitude of benches around Royal Oak, though it would be nice to have some amount of seating, especially for those with accessibility needs and those waiting on their food. This is probably my favorite sit-down pizza in the Detroit area. It is a warm environment with the walls covered in pictures and empty wine baskets signed by guests. Though it was busy, it didn't feel like we had to wait very long for our waitress to check on us. The food was delicious. I had a small salad with the house dressing to start. The lettuce was just iceberg and nothing special, but the dressing was a simple, flavorful Italian that made me immediately wish I had a bigger salad so I could have more dressing. As for pizza, I got a small pepperoni & mushroom. It was SO good. The ratio of cheese/sauce/toppings was excellent without one overpowering the rest. The crust was crispy and flavorful, but not too hard or chewy. Size wise, the small is four large, square pieces that are perfectly filling for one person. I travel to Detroit occasionally on business and a client of mine took me there and HOLY SH*T this stuff was amazing! The pizza the crust, the salad whoa mama! The best pizza I have ever had and I drive from Novi to enjoy it and have brought my friends and they agree the pizza is wonderful and if you have to take any of your pizza home it reheats with no problem. If I'm with some one that is driving I will definitely enjoy the 2 Long Island ice tea (only) they will serve you which is all you need because the drinks are big and the alcohol is strong. Absolutely the best deep dish pizza in Detroit area. Antipasto salad is perfection. You may want to bring home some of the dressing which is available for purchase as well. It's just a simple pizza joint, no reservations, and likely have to wait 10-15min to get a table, but it's worth it. read more
