My only complaint is that they are not open all day. The food is amazing and the people are friendly. We have been there multiple times now and each time we are happy. When you go in you order at the counter and get a card then pick out your table. Pretty simple set up. But it does get crowded so be prepared to make new friends in line. Maybe discuss what you are going to order . My boyfriend is a fan of the veggie quesadilla with scrambled eggs. It has veggies, black bean and corn salsa and scrambled eggs in a red pepper tortilla. It is so good he has gotten it every time and just tried some of what I got. He ask really likes the sweet tea, it has a good balance of sweetness and not overbrewed. His sister got the Ruben sandwich. She said it was great, it only needed a little more dressing. She easily got a side of dressing and the sand which was perfect. I have tried the blueberry waffle, pancakes, French toast, two eggs breakfast (over medium) and the coffee. I have yet to be disappointed. The waffle has blueberries in and on it, the pancake was a little smaller than I expected but very tasty, the French toast was thick and full of flavor, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the coffee hit the spot. The people are friendly and knowledgeable. We asked lots of questions about the food and everything was answered. The food is bought local when available and it is all very fresh. I also want to mention that we eat mostly ova lacto vegetarian. It is not 100% of what we eat, but we general try to stay away from animal meat products. We save them for something that we truly enjoy and eat in small amounts (like the sausage gravy and I can't seem to find a way to give up bacon). So the restaurants that we like tend to have good options in this area. Update: this I am hoping was a one off bad day for someone. This is long because i want to explain the whole encounter. My boyfriend and I came in today and ordered three meals (we were very hungry). The veggie quesadilla, two egg breakfast and a waffle, with a side of grits. Table selection can be limited because of the small size of the two rooms to sit in, we are not small people so we selected a nice 4 top off to the side. There were other larger and smaller options, plenty of tables available but some were crowded in by the other tables of people who were spreading out, and we did not really want to sit in the middle of the room. The table still had plates on it (most of them did) so I started to move them to one of the other empty tables when someone came out to clear and clean it. As she cleaned the table off she asked if we would be meeting other people. We said no and she said they like to reserve their larger tables for larger parties. I said we understand, but there are at least two other large tables available other than this one, including the one i was standing next to. She said she knew that but they had a policy to save the larger tables for larger parties because it can get busy. I looked around and saw 4 table options in the room, a corner two seater filled with plates and crowded in next to two people with a baby who kept leaning back. A small two seater that looked like it would barely fit two cups of coffee, let alone three meals. And two tables of 4. I said I understood the policy and waited for her to finish cleaning the table. She said the policy again and that she wanted us to find a smaller table. I said she order three meals and would need the room for the extra plates. She then left and we sat at the table. One side note is that the tables previously mentioned remained empty up until we went to leave. Right before we got up a couple came and sat at the other 4 top without issue. We have each time we have been here (which is now so often the other woman recognized us when we walked up) sat at 4 top tables without issue. I think it was an unnecessary and unfortunate interaction that left me feeling like I was not welcome at a restaurant that I have purposefully become a regular at. I try not to let the negativity of other people affect my day, but it is difficult when you come with a high expectation of friendliness and small town charm and are met with someone looking to exert authority where they can for what appears to be no reason. The food was still good, but more difficult to enjoy. It is hard for me to give 5 stars to any restaurant, I thought they had earned. But literally the day after I post how wonderful everyone there is, someone takes their off day out on me. Still would go back, but will wait a while. Worth it for the fresh awesome food and majority of the service. My boyfriend said the grits were amazing. read more

Great place! Seating is a little too intimate for my taste, but they had amazing food and the house looks great! I sat outside the second time, and it was much better. The French toast was divine! If you have time, take a walk around the area. There are a few interesting shops just around the corner. The only weird thing about this place is that you get no instruction on how anything works. Mmmm, we'd seen the hype of this place on Yelp, and it seemed like the perfect breakfast spot before a long day of hiking. Louise's feels just like your grandma's house: warm, inviting and smelling of wonderful home cooking. The breakfast menu, written on a chalkboard over the kitchen, has everything you could ever want. My fiance' zero'ed in on biscuits and gravy. I immediately was in for the breakfast burrito. Our cashier was so friendly and cheery, and we felt so at home. This is a sit-wherever type of place, but since the downstairs isn't huge, heed the 'rules of the house' board and choose tables according to your party size. We poured some locally-roasted coffee (Asheville is very focused on local eats and drinks overall) into the types of mugs you'd see strewn about the cabinets of your grandparents: mismatched, often free from some magazine service/business, and varying sizes. It made me smile. Breakfast came out quickly, and I was a bit intimidated by the gargantuan burrito I'd ordered. Wrapped in a large tortilla (sundries tomato, I think?), ingredients from eggs to Pico de Gallo to sausage rounds to cheese were piled high. I had a side of sour cream, and let me tell you, I wolfed that sucker down in ten minutes. It was flipping de-lish-us. As in, I've dreamed about that burrito since. This place is a wonderful example of your "mom and pop" breakfast place! Louise's is an EXTREMELY homey restaurant built in a home that looks like it was built in the 60's. The kitchen was completely torn out and made to look like your industrial kitchen. The seating was absolutely adorable, with mismatched chairs and all, giving it even more of a homey feeling. The food was all a very reasonable price, and I tried out the Biscuits and Gravy. Our food didn't take very long to come out, and I was very pleased with the quality of the Biscuit batter and the flavoring and thickness of the gravy! The food is ALL local and the staff is so laid back and comforting. It honestly didn't feel like I was eating at a restaurant, but rather having a nice breakfast in the home of a good friend. An older gentleman sitting at a table across us even engaged us in a nice conversation, which helped me feel even more at home. I'm sad I only visited Louise's once while in Black Mountain... There aren't a lot of dining options in Black Mountain, so I was glad to stumble upon Louise's Kitchen. It's a little cramped inside, but the line moved quickly. After you order, they give you a playing card to put at your table. That's how they identify you when it's time to present your food. I got the 'Mater Sandwich. It had tomato, aioli, and yummy cheese. I was so happy to see a grown-up version of my favorite kid sandwich (tomato and cheddar on white). The 'Mater was just as tasty as I'd hoped. I can't say the same for the turkey soup I had, or the chilli I ate from my friend's plate. Neither one had any flavor. Boo. Alright, I'm gonna be honest - the food scene in Black Mountain... you have to take into consideration that most Yelp reviews of this area is relative to the other restaurants in the area, so imho, you have to in your mind remove 1/2-1 star from the reviews. EXCEPT this place. I've come to Asheville about 5 times in the last 3 years or so, and I've come here 4 times. And the one time I wasn't able to go, I drove off thinking "aw man, I didn't get to Louise's" :( This place is just a solid breakfast choice. A small house converted into a restaurant, has a small hometown feel to it. Comfortable to chill with friends. Food is excellent. My go-to is the Big Boy Burrito (because... well I'm a big boy). It is big. Stuff with a sausage, bacon, potato, cheese, and eggs, all wrapped up in a red pepper tortilla. The saltiness of the bacon and sausage balanced out nicely by the potatoes, glued together by the cheese - perfection wrapped in a tortilla. Make sure you ask for the local hot sauce. I usually mix it with the sour cream and dip my burrito. Another fan favorite is the French toast. Nice and sweet, soft and moist on the inside. Challah is the bread to go when it comes to French toast, Challah! My friend ordered the biscuit and gravy which was also excellent. The gravy is smooth and nice chunks of sausage. There's a slight kick in the gravy which is perfect to cut through the richness of the gravy. Local coffee is the perfect pairing to this great meal. And the friendly staff is always coming around, checking to make sure everything was ok, our water cups topped, and coffee nice and hot. Everything we've had here has been wonderful. Can't say much about the other restaurants in Black Mountain, but this is a must go! Can't wait to come back to Asheville to go to Louise's. read more

Last weekend my husband and I were lucky enough to stay with some friends in their weekend home in Montreat. We ate several amazing meals in Black Mountain, but our Sunday morning breakfast was not only the best meal we had that weekend -it was the BEST BREAKFAST I'VE EVER HAD. We waited for 30 minutes in the cold to order our food, but it was totally worth it! First, their coffee is AMAZING. It is locally roasted & is so So SO much fresher than what you typically find at chain restaurants. I ordered the huevos racheros because one of our friends recommended it and said we'd regret not ordering it... she was right, my life would simply not be complete right now if I had not tried the huevos rancheros. I don't know what it was about the fried tortilla, bean, cheese, pico de gallo, and egg combination that worked so well... but the way Louise's prepares this dish is truly magical. I was so preoccupied with my food that I honestly don't know what the rest of our group ordered. I know that everyone left full and happy & we all agreed that this was one of the best, if not the best breakfasts we'd ever had. Louise's is now on my list of "musts" anytime I'm in the Asheville/Hendersonville/Black Mountain area! One important note, arrive early and know that they don't take reservations. You can't "save" a seat until after you've placed your order, so be flexible & don't worry about sitting with your entire group because you'll be so busy enjoying your food, you won't have much time to talk!!! read more

Found this place on a whim driving to Asheville. Black mountain has a hidden trove of restaurants that are worth trying and this place certainly is one of them! We stopped in for brunch - you order in a line and then find a table and they bring food to you. They have indoor and outdoor seating - both are in short supply when this place is busy but I can highly recommend outdoor seating if you can find it with the great weather in this area. We had the big boy burrito, the eggs Louise and the French toast all were amazing! Will come here again for sure! read more

My husband and I were visiting Black Mountain for the first time and this restaurant always had people waiting to enter. It is an eclectic atmosphere in a house built in 1904. Every one enters the kitchen in single file to order and receive a number and patrons are asked to sit at an appropriate table (both inside or outside) that fits their party. We sat outside on the front porch, a cool morning and were quite comfortable. I had two eggs scrambled, fried potatoes, with a sausage patty, and rye toast. My husband had a breakfast burrito containing scrambled eggs, sausage, cheddar cheese, and potatoes, with a side of grits. We were informed that their sausage is made by Louise's kitchen and it is not too spicy or too greasy and they receive many compliments on it. They also grow and make their own corn grits southern style which are incredible. My husbands burrito was huge and we were both thrilled with the home cooking, the fresh flavors blew us away! The sausage was quite flavorful and so good; it did not have that processed meat flavor nor texture. The grits were truly homemade thick, creamy, and quite flavorful. I love this place. Anytime I am around Asheville, I always make a point to stop by Black Mountain to grab lunch or breakfast here. Their sweet tea is the best sweet tea you can find, and you can get it in a glass mason jar and serve yourself all the lemons you want on the side. The food is great and the prices are spot on. I've never been disappointed with my food. Beware the Sunday brunch lines though, this place doesn't have a long wait other days of the week! read more

Holy frick! This place is killing it! Every single thing we ordered was amazing (I almost tried the napkins to see if those were good too). Here are the highlights: -Sweet tea: perfectly sweet and served in a mason jar like the good Lord intended. -Breakfast potatoes: perfectly seasoned and crispy. -pancakes with vanilla syrup: shutup -biscuits and gravy: I'd beat my own mother with a stick for another order. The atmosphere is as southern as is legally allowed with seating on the porch or inside a beautiful old house with flowering trees all around. Great locally sourced restaurant with a killer sweet tea. They source their meat from a local butcher (the chop shop butcher) in Asheville that BTW offers a great variety of cuts, cured meats and pate. Love the quirky home style. Had my eye on plenty. I wish I could have ordered more. Had the big boy burrito and the biscuits and gravy. The burrito was well formed and tasty with a good balance of potatoes, egg, meat, and veggies. I wish they had more pico de Gallo, it needed that little bit more of that to die for salsa. The biscuits were literally on point, gravy had the right texture and plenty of it. Soooo good! Trav found this place online. It's in a charming older house on the edge of the downtown area. Everything is made to order and is creative and local as they say on their sign. I had the pancakes with fresh strawberries. It came with house made vanilla bean syrup. It was very light and different from what I am used to. Delish! I was in Black Mountain, NC to pick up my son from summer camp and I was interested in finding a local place to have breakfast. I wasn't looking forward to the Huddle House located just off of the exit. One search on Yelp and I knew I had found my place at Louise's Kitchen. Located just off of the I-40 exit a few blocks and Louise's Kitchen is located in an old house with a charming wrap-around porch. As I was waiting on my friend to meet me, a lady who worked there brought me something to drink while I waited to order. I ordered the gravy and buscuits and eggs. Both were great. The gravy was sausage gravy and was very tasty, not the white tasteless flour gravy one often gets. Fresh tomatoes topped off the perfect breakfast. Location= Perfect, Food= Awesome, Service= Couldn't be better, Price= $8 breakfast, need I say more. I will definitely return and recommend to others. read more
