We were so disappointed in the chicken soup after all we had read about this place. The broth tasted and looked partially canned and there was hardly any chicken or rice. The chicken was mostly finely shredded pieces. There are several better places in Encinitas to get this type of chicken soup. We were so disappointed we won't go back to try anything else. read more

Lourdes is a solid spot for Mexican food...my go to menu items are the fish and carnitas tacos and if I'm feeling under the weather or its cold outside I always get the chicken soup, which is probably the best I've had outside of Mexico! They also do Taco Tuesday here where all tacos are the same discounted price. Service is always friendly, and it's never super crowded. I love Lourdes!!! If I'm ever feeling sick my husband goes there to get me their chicken soup. Even when I'm not sick I'm always game for a trip to Lourdes. I've never strayed away from their soup because it's literally perfection in a bowl but last time we went my husband got a California burrito. He said it was the best burrito he's ever had. The atmosphere is pretty awesome too. If you want to stay there it's a cool layout and if you want to take it home you're set too. Chicken Soup, flautas and carnitas tacos are the items that I have had at this fine establishment. This weather lately has had me in the mood for some good soup so a ventured down for the first time and I have lived down the street for a few years. I'm a little embarrassed honestly. It took us having colds to try this place, but I am sure glad we did. Best thing to come out of a winter cold! :) We have driven by and never had an opportunity to try this place but when we both were feeling yucky and wanting to try soup, we figured we would see if they really did have the best soup in town. Um...yes they do! They earn that right, for sure. We have been back 4 times since and will continue to go back! All the food is fresh, the chicken is not creepy and delicious and they do not scoff at us when we order everything sans avocado & guac! Extra bonus in our book! Tried this place for the first time today for a late lunch. I had the carne asada burrito and carnitas taco, which is what I typically judge a taco place by. They were both outstanding. The only complaint I had was that the salsas at the salsa bar were kind of bland (I tried all four). The good news is the the food did not need them. Definitely going back. read more

After spending most of the past year in Texas, and eating mostly Tex-Mex, it was great to come to Cardiff for the Christmas break and sample great SoCal Mexican. Their chicken soup is absolutely delicious! Gives La Especial Norte a run for its money. I had it for lunch and wanted it again for dinner - really yummy chunks of white breast meat, no fat or yucky parts to have to pick off! Totally clean and casual restaurant~ looking forward to going back and trying other items on their menu. My only complaint is that the soup was served in a styrofoam "takeout" container so it was hard to eat. And the tortilla (which was fabulous) came in a baggie. Staying at LaCosta and friends said to try this place for lunch. The tortillas were awesome. I had a crane asada burrito and could only finish half. My 9 year old son loved the carnitas tacos. There was a little mix up getting the order where they gave my burrito to someone else and it looked like they were going to give me the burrito that got returned but I'm not sure what would have happened if I didn't catch it. People in the neighborhood call the tri-tip at Seaside Market "Cardiff Crack", I would say Lourdes' "Caldo de Pollo" comes in a close second for that title, their pickled carrots are in third place. Yes, the chicken soup is amazing. Anything with their chicken in it is fabulous. Great, classic chili rellenos and cheese enchiladas. The service is excellent and is cleaner than any other Mexican food joint I've been to in San Diego county. Be sure to grab some salsa though, and if you are a salt person you're gonna have to add some. I hate salt so this place is my jam. I've never been disappointed here. I grew up eating at Lourdes in Escondido, this location is easily as good if not better than the original. read more
