This cannot be the best place in Escondido. It just can't. I'll start my review by telling everyone about the GAWD AWFUL smell of this place. Upon walking in, I smelled something- urine, bathroom cleanser, who knows! But, it totally turned me off for the rest of the meal. I can't understand how people can eat at a place that smells like urine, but I digress. I ordered a fish taco. They don't have a grilled option and the taco is made with cod. Um, hello..fish tacos are usually tilapia. Tasteless and they use OLD OIL. How do I know? Well, I had my gallbladder removed in 2007 and I only get sick when I have something fried in old oil. Proof. My husband ordered his usual carne asada burrito. Nothing special. We ordered two kids cheese quesadilla. You can't screw that up. The rice that came with the meal was salty and tasteless. And finally, their 'best chicken soup'...really? So overrated and not worth sitting in a urine/cleaner smelling place. As an Escondido native, I needed to come into this iconic Mexican restaurant nestled in the heart of my hometown. Yesterday evening was the perfect time to sit down and have a bowl of Lourdes' famous chicken soup as it was raining and cold last night. The soup was delicious and the tortillas were super fresh. There were 9 pieces of small shrimp and very watery cocktail. Taste was good just over priced for what I got ! Had I eaten there I could have complained but I had my order to go. Best solution for a cold: Lourdes chicken soup My husband is down and out with this season's cold. So, it was a no brainer to call in an order of chicken noodle soup. I opted for the following delicious take-out options: -Chicken noodle soup (no cilantro) with corn tortillas: piping hot, ginormous portion of shredded chicken breast pieces, chunks of avocado, and a terrific broth that helps soothe any sick loved one. -Asada quesadillas: great portion of steak, comes with guac and sour cream inside. This is a pretty hearty and creamy quesadilla. -Chicken enchiladas (dinner plate): came with two quesadillas with red sauce, beans, and Spanish rice. Nice portion of chicken breast in each enchilada and the red sauce wasn't too tangy or bitter. The beans are thoughtfully in a container on the side, separate from your rice and entree. There is a private parking lot and parking on the street. I've only opted for take out, so I can't speak to the in-restaurant experience. However, the staff as always been friendly and prompt for take-out orders. I expect it's likely the same for dine-in.
