If I were my exhaust system, I'd be walking into my local emergency room bandaged like a mummy. I spent countless hours and atrocious amounts of money on JB Weld and wire, patching pipes for the last six months on my fifteen-year-old Nissan Frontier. I'd ignored my son telling me to take it to Lou's Custom Exhaust until today. One hour and four hundred dollars later, I drove home in a truck that didn't noisily draw attention and wouldn't asphyxiate me. I went in for a tailpipe replacement. Service was perfect. They had it done in an hour and at a very reasonable price.

The exhaust system on my 2012 Ford escape was rotting out and these guys were able to replace the rotten pieces with stainless steel on the same day basis. Mufflers and exhaust system is all they do and they are able to keep their prices down because of this. I also found there customer service to be exemplary. The next closest price was $300 above the repair costs at this business for my car. I recommend this business and will bring my wife's car when she needs repair to the exhaust system. read more

After driving for a month with a bad muffler I gave up - I drove and got a headache. The car was towed to Lou's at 12:30. By 4:00 I got a call that the car was repaired! I had been driving with a split muffler and cracked resonator. They were outstanding and the price was unbelievably reasonable! Work comes with a 5 year warranty. Skip the other guys. I went in yesterday for an exhaust leak thinking I had to do on 02 sensor or two. Turned out it was both catalytic converters and an o2 sensor. The owner and staff were knowledgeable about emissions testing due to the year and recommended I just straight pipe to the exhaust. This recommendation saved me what could have been $800. They explained to me what was wrong and walked me through pricing etc. My car was diagnosed and fixed within 35 minutes and I was out the door. I had Lou's in Chelmsford convert my 2005 Mustang V6 to dual exhaust in April of 2016, paying $550 for this. I'd give these guys less than 1 star if I could. I've now spent $660 paying someone else to fix Lou's shotty welding. See the pic! Lou's did not grind the surface rust off the original pipes before welding over it. And now I've discovered Lou's used regular steel pipes - not stainless! One of the mufflers is now hanging because the steel pipe going into it has rotted thru!! A couple things wrong with this. 1) stainless steel wouldn't have rotted this quickly, and 2) the mufflers should be self-supported and not relying on the pipe to hold them up. I've now ordered all new stainless steel mid-pipes for $400 ($1,005.00 spent so far to fix Lou's crummy $550 work) and will pay someone to install the new pipes, with PROPER hangers that I have also purchased. I don't know if all Lou's are as bad as these guys in Chelmsford, but do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!!! read more

Very friendly and professional people. They make sure to go out of their way to ensure you understand everything and are patient with your questions. The vibe from this shop is they're not there to just sell you something and take your money. They make sure you're happy with what you want done, first and foremost. I had a simple exhaust modification where the stock mufflers were cut out to be replaced with tips and the central resonator replaced with a dual in/out free flow muffler. I brought my own parts which they gladly used. This wasn't the best choice and I wasn't happy with it, so I called back and they had me back in a couple days later no questions asked. This time I used their parts and the quality rivals the more popular aftermarket suppliers. Overall their work was very good. Welds are solid and have held up very nicely. They welded hangers to the piping and bolted on hooks to factory locations. There was no drilling or welding to the frame (they only do that unless absolutely necessary). They double checked all their welds with a stethoscope and welded shut any leaks. Definitely recommended. read more

Had a quote from Toyota for $850 plus labor. SUV is 12 years old and didn't want to spend that much money on an exhaust system for a car that may only last another year or two. Saw good reviews for other Lou's locations but went to Chelmsford because it was near work. The first thing they told me was "you have a lot going on". Not good. They then show me two different holes in my exhaust system and a huge hole in the muffler. Not good. Then the good news - $350 including labor to repair. Both guys there worked on it and I was out the door in 45 minutes. Can't recommend more highly! read more

Each location is independently owned and operated, so this review may or may not be consistent with your experiences at a different location. I've now taken two different cars to Lou's in Chelmsford MA for exhaust work and the entire experience end to end was very positive. Both cars needed to pass state inspection. Make sure you tell them that before the work is started, if that's what you need. One car needed a flex pipe and gasket replacements, the other needed more extensive work. Not only were their staff friendly and helpful, they showed me exactly where the leaks were occurring and explained everything I needed to know to pass inspection. They were also very punctual and respectful of my time. From my first call to set up an appt, up to the invoice and payment, no forever-hold times on the phone, no playing games on price. That's happened at some other establishments I've worked with in the past.... but not here. I highly recommend this business to anyone needing exhaust work done - fairly priced and fast. read more

I have taken a number of cars with flex-pipe issues to Lou's in Chelmsford and have been able to call ahead and quickly get in and out. One of the flex-pipes had started making noise and we took it back a half hour after calling Lou's and it was done in under 20 minutes. Family run franchise in Chelmsford. Really nice, informative guys. They replaced the pipes and hangers that were needed after showing me where rust has taken its toll. Walked out 40 minutes after arriving without an appointment. Best of all, it was much cheaper than I expected. The other hack shops would have replaced the whole system.
