Decent menu to choose from, I tried the turkey cranberry and that was good but didn't leave me wanting it again in the future. The best thing was the licorice icecream! It'll dye your fingers, tongue and mouth black though for a bit so wipe often! Service was okay, the lady stopped by quite a bit but kind of had a grumpy attitude. Maybe it was a bad day. Such a great cozy kitchen! When I walked in, I immediately noticed the pay it forward board. You can buy a meal or anything on the menu pay for it and they put the receipt up on the board for someone else to enjoy. The restaurant is large enough where all patrons can feel comfortable without rubbing elbows with others. There is ample street parking around the restaurant. Breakfast is served only on Weekends at this Mount Angel eatery. My wife had the Avocado Toast meal and she said it was one of the best Avocado Toast she has ever had. I had the hearty Lou's Farmer's Breakfast which is essentially everything in the kitchen except the kitchen sink. This meal was very filling and satisfying. Lou's Kitchen seems to be doing a bang-up job in downtown Mt. Angel - the tables were full, the crowd was happy, the food smelled delicious, and being the holiday season, the Christmas tree inside the front door was festive and bright. I got a tuna melt on grilled sourdough with fries and a side of barbeque sauce and my friends ordered a half ham & cheese sandwich with chips and a turkey cranberry sandwich on a croissant. All of our meals were tasty and filling, the service was attentive, and the water glasses were always full. Lou's consistently offers good food including a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, salads, burgers and dinner entrees, as well as daily specials. Mt. My boyfriend is from Mt. Angel, and we visited his family over Labor Day weekend. While we were there, his mother insisted we try a new restaurant in town called Lou's. We invited a friend and went for Saturday brunch. We have been coming here on the occasional ever since they opened. Actually , this has become our go to stop when we are in Mt. Angel around mealtime. The food is always consistent and (while I like German food) the menu isn't all about sausage and schnitzel. The service has always been excellent and they don't make you feel rushed. If you are looking for an overpriced bratwurst to bask in the German feel of the town this is not your place. Really, really delicious food!!! Came here for brunch with my family Sunday morning. Place was packed and understaffed from the looks of it. We ordered our drinks after being seated but they never arrived. Took close to twenty minutes before our server arrived and took our order again. She did apologize for the delay. Our drinks and meals arrived not too long afterwards. Really tasty and worth the long wait! The homemade sourdough English muffins were absolutely amazing! Everything is scratch made and very well prepared. My veggie/cheese omelette was very tasty and prepared with real eggs. My daughter loved her biscuits with gravy. We have eaten several times at Lou's and have enjoyed it. However, this last time has caused us to rethink dining here. Deciding to stop in on a Wednesday (meatloaf was their special on Wednesdays), we were disappointed to find out that they had chosen to "change it up" and offer a "chef's choice" on Wednesdays. Ordering fish & chips instead, I asked if a small house salad could be substituted for the coleslaw. The waitress said yes and that there would be a "small" charge for the substitution. According to the side orders on the menu, coleslaw is $4 and a house salad is $6. We expected to pay the difference ($2). Instead, we were charged NINE DOLLARS for that house salad (and no coleslaw). Sadly, we've decided that perhaps Lou's should be reserved for pie & coffee from now on. read more

My wife and I recently ate here. The waitress was amazingly friendly and the service was excellent. The food was wonderful, and the architecture is great. My only criticism is that there was christian music playing throughout my entire time there. While I wholeheartedly believe in people's right to believe in what they want--I don't like people imposing their religious views on me--particularly when I'm paying really good money to eat there. I mentioned it to the waitress and told her I would be just as bothered if muslim prayer music came on while I was eating. She listened to me and was really nice. They didn't turn off the music. That is okay. I felt listened to. However, because I don't like listening to religious music of any kind while I'm eating--I'm not sure if I will be going back. Even though the restaurant was less than half full, part of our group was seated right night to the door to the restrooms. I hope these seats next to the restroom could be used last when people are seated. There were very few vegetarian options on the menu. Well somebody recommended this on Salem eats and so I had to run out and try it. My friend and I each had one. 1 with tomatoe and 1 without. I'm here to tell you that it's in the top five best sandwiches I've ever had in my entire life. The flavors going on in that turkey bacon avocado cranberry cream cheese croissant sandwich is out of this world! The ingredients were also very elevated. The bacon that you can't hardly find anymore was on this sandwich. I go out five or six times to find one place like this that checks all the boxes on great food, great service, great atmosphere and extremely clean restaurant. What an amazing addition to Mt Angel. Lou's recently moved to a really cool spacious location right down the block from their original place. It is so warm and welcoming, the staff is pleasant and always smiling and seem to truly enjoy what they are doing. Their menu has expanded greatly and is quite impressive. I had the best grilled chicken salad ever with very generous portions of candied pecans, feta cheese, dried cranberries and excellent balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I have really enjoyed the food and ambiance at Lou's Kitchen. However, I recently had a bad experience at the restaurant. The woman who seated us (party of 2) did not want to put us at a booth along the windows that we requested. Even though the restaurant was only half full, and no one else waiting, she insisted that the booths were now reserved for parties of 4. When I insisted that we always have sat there before, she very grudgingly "allowed" us to sit there. She was also very unfriendly (never smiled once!) when she served us. I felt like I was being punished for insisting on something that had not been a problem before. Needless to say, it was an unpleasant experience. Some friends said they had also had the same problem with not being allowed to sit in a window booth, and as a result, they have not been back. I also do not plan on eating there again until they change their policy. read more

Our first experience here was bizarre. It was a busy Sunday morning. Hostess seated us. Then we waited and waited and waited. No one offered water. No wait staff came by to let us know they'd be with us as soon as possible. After a while we saw others that came in after getting service. I started to watch. No staff made eye contact. Nothing. For some reason we were completely invisible. I've never had that happen anywhere. Only when we got up to leave did someone talk to us and apologize for the wait. I understand delays due to being busy and short staffed but experiencing invisibility was unsettling. We'll never go back and will never encourage anyone to patronize Lou's.
