This was my second time here for a candle making class with a different group of friends and just like before the class was great fun from start to finish! The class instructor, Ekemini, was very knowledgeable and all of the assistants were very friendly and helpful as they moved around the room. One assistant spent a lot of time helping a younger member of the group which was so kind and very much appreciated. A wonderful experience at a wonderful shop! I was stood up for a date and was pretty undecided about still going. All of the ladies working were incredibly helpful in making sure I had the help I needed (I was making 4 candles everyone else had to make 2). I was even a bit emotional towards the end when someone asked me why I was making so many candles and I didn't catch her name but a woman working and helping with the workshop straight up gave me a hug. Love & Make has been such a great addition to Houston! It's really nice to have something to do in the city besides eat and shop. I've done the candle and bath bomb making classes, and both were a lot of fun. The ladies who run this shop clearly have a passion for what they're doing. They give clear instructions on how to create the candles/bath bombs and are great about checking on everyone's progress to make sure it turns out well. There are lot of scent options to pick from and I was really happy with my picks. One word of warning, it does take a couple of hours for the candles to harden and a full day for the bath bombs, so be prepared to drive out to Rice Village twice. However, we weren't able to pick ours up for a couple of weeks and they were very nice about hanging on to them for us. I've loved using my bath bombs and candles and would highly recommend this for a date night or Mother's Day gift! read more

BEST BIRTHDAY PARTY EVER! If I could give more than five stars I would. They do private parties and non-private classes as well. Here's my experience and let me break this down into several sections. Planning - the first thing I noticed was the excellent customer service. I had a million questions and they were very responsive and accommodating. Ease of scheduling - very organized... there is a link to sign up so people can pay the venue directly with a credit card. It also showed how many spots were left. Value/Quality - I believe it was adequately priced at $50 for two candles which includes everything you need (supplies) and the instructors time of 2 hours. There were so many different scents to choose from. It comes with a clear or tin jar but you can also upgrade your candle jar for a small fee. Instructor - our instructor was Seth he was very lively, knowledgeable, and kind. When we needed help one on one he came over. He did some fun pop quizzes and taught us more about tips and tricks to make our candles fill the room with strong scents. Accommodations - due to unforeseen circumstances three of my guests were not able to come on the day of and Love & Make accommodated us. Everything worked out perfectly as we were able to make other arrangements. They also let me set up for my party early and took pictures for us. Location/Parking - rice village which is centrally located. There was free street parking or free garage parking. Overall I had a fabulous time and my guests said the same. I highly recommend! I originally heard about Love & Make on twitter. Several people were talking about their candle making class but I decided to do the fragrance making class to try my hand at creating my own scent. It was a little more difficult trying to combine the fragrances than I thought. Once I found a scent I was satisfied with they make it into a 4oz candle. The young lady leading my class was very knowledgeable and thorough in explaining which fragrances mix well together. I was the only person in the class I attended so I did get a bit more personalized attention. I went to eat dinner then came back an hour later to pick up my candle. I waited the 3 day period for the candle to set then burned it at home. The scent wasn't as strong as I had hoped but it may have been due to me choosing more earthy, natural fragrances. I would definitely go back for the soap or candle making classes. They are a good value for the amount of product you receive. read more

I really cant say enough about this workshop. Our group had so much fun! I was particularly impressed with the level of professionalism from Amara. Once the candle making gets going the workshop gets a little chaotic. However Amara was always on top of everything, changing inappropriate songs to accommodate children, reminding folks across the room to be careful, filling supplies that were about to run out and constantly answering questions. Doing it all with calm and ease. If you're expecting to just come in and heat up wax to fill a jar think again. I learned so much about candles and the entire process of making them in general. Its truly a science. But the absolute most "funnest" part is when you get to develop your candles fragrance. They have a HUGE selection of scents that accommodate any nose. They even have some I'm not sure how they're used like tobacco, leather and whiskey. A couple points to note for planning purposes: 1. You'll have to wait a little over an hour to take your candle home as it hardens. But, this should'nt be an issue as there are tons of restaurants and stores within walking distance 2. You'll have to wait 3 days before you can actually burn your candle. It needs time to cure. I highly recommend this workshop! Being an adult is hard lol and this was a nice escape from responsibility and brought me right back to middle school art class. read more

Went to a candle-making class with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day and it was such an amazing experience! The studio itself is absolutely adorable and very well kept. There were soooo many different scents to choose from and mix, and our instructor was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in advising us on which scent combinations would be good. She also did a great job getting the entire class to engage with each other - it was fun and interesting to see what different scents each person liked. There were very clear instructions for each person on how to make the candles, and the entire process was seamless and very relaxing. Amazing experience!!The classes were very easy to book online, and "Love & Make" had a plethora of class dates and times available. The owner is very nice and helps you throughout the entire candle-making process. The place is organized, neat, and inviting. The best thing is, they give you creative freedom to smell and concoct your "dream scents." You don't feel pressured at all. You can bring a friend/group of friends/go solo. I went by myself and sat with a group of people and felt very comfortable. The candles take about 1 hour to finish curing (solidifying), and won't be ready to use for about 3 days.
