This place is a sleeper. Come here immediately. I went to Belize in 2020 and we ate at a roadside stand called "Bonnie's." This chicken is almost identical. Deliciousssssss. For a double chicken plate at $16 that comes with your choice of: arugula salad or Mixed greens, habanero sauce (refer to menu picture for their options) and it comes with a nice citrus vinaigrette, and an onion relish and chicken "gravy" sauce. It might be 5 stars a few years ago but the significant 50%+ price increase eradicated the biggest appeal of the place - quick, inexpensive, filling (from what I see from old photos here). This establishment is a mom and pop restaurant and has quite the hype - I am not from Portland so it can be a mission to check this place out given their extremely limited opening hours - Monday to Friday 11am-3pm (BUT the last 2 times I manage to somehow be in Portland weekdays, they sold out for the day at 12:30pm and 1pm, so you have to go like at opening for a chance to try the food here). You pretty much either need to take time off or work in Portland to get a chance at trying this place. Fortunately, this time I left Seattle at 7am to make a trek down, with more than enough time to come here at 11am opening. The owner was friendly and was generous - she let us get 2 sauces even tho extra sauces cost $0.50 each, and she gave us 2 water bottles complimentary even though it's $1 each. I placed an online order since I needed to use the DoorDash credits, but whether in person or online it costs the same. As a light meal (and to check out as many restaurants as we can), we shared the double chicken with arugula salad, and opted for the prickly pear and Belizean heat hot sauces. It was $16 which is actually quite steep since the chickens are quite tiny. The grilled flavor is pretty solid, but the chicken meat can get a little dry. Fortunately, the hot sauces are excellent to pair with the chicken, as well as the chicken gravy. The rice and beans were a bit mediocre - too mushy. The salad was refreshing with the dressing. The pickled onions were excellent. Again, if only they didn't skimp on the chicken, since there are so much sauces and toppings to enjoy the chicken but I was only able to get a few bites (even if I were to get the whole order myself). Overall, I would not make the trek down here just to try this out (it was a full day trip for me fortunately), but if you're nearby, it's worth a try to check out Belizean cuisine that's not that easy to find in the US, but for the portions, you could be better off going elsewhere for a more filling meal at this price point. read more

Stopped by here for lunch. I got the single chicken dish with arugula greens and coconut rice beans. I felt like the chicken was little dry but I did like the crispness of the chicken skin. Mine was pretty burnt though and that taste came through. The rice was delicious, super moist and I finished all of it! The greens were nothing special. I so wanted to love this place, but it's a total rip-off. The food is fine (not great as some people seem to think, but it's fine), but portion size is insultingly small. My piece of chicken weighed 2.5oz with the bone in, so about 2oz of meat. A standard serving of meat is 4oz. I don't even know how they source such tiny chicken thighs. I definitely needed a sandwich after finishing this lunch. The coconut rice was also fine. Very simple menu, and they take a bit of time to get things prepared given that the menu is limited. But the chicken is really really delicious! The flavors are infused into the skin of the chicken, and the meat is Juicy and tender. You also get to choose some interesting spicy sauces including a grapefruit flavored spicy sauce. The arugula is a better side salad because the bitterness of the leaves balances the richness of the chicken better. The rice was good although I tend to prefer it's a little softer. read more

Never had Belizean food until I discovered this hole in the wall not far from my hotel. Stopped in for lunch. Ordered two meats plate of tri tip and Belizean chicken. My combo came with arugula salad and their house special hot sauce. My plate was very satisfying and flavorful and totally hit the spot right. Price was very reasonable too for only $12. Right after I ordered, a long line started to form. I deff got lucky since I didn't have to wait. I'd suggest come in early to beat the lunch crowd. All in all, a little gem next to PSU campus. If you love flavorful food with some heat, this is the place to eat! The chicken is juicy and tasty by itself, but next level with the hot sauces, Belizean heat is one of my favorites, but I recommend to try them all and see what you like. The rice and beans are on point as well and the salad is always fresh! Alone, these make a great meal, but I love to add a curry cup with the smoky hot sauce because it is sooooo good. I've only had take out so far, but the staff has always been quick with the orders, very friendly and kind. One day, I'd love to eat in. We tried their belizean chicken and red beans curry. Both came with a flavorful coconut rice and these vinegary onions, that were a great accompaniment. The chicken was very well cooked and falling off the bones. The red beans were good but nothing too great. I was expecting the food to be bursting with flavor, which it wasn't. The food is nothing special. Again, two menu items. The vegan curry beans menu item comes with tasteless rice. The roasted chicken menu item is fine, but the chicken piece is tiny. There is no sense of the food being based on Belizean cuisine. Spiciness of food doesn't make it Belizean. The food comes in takeout paper boxes even if you eat there. The sauces come in small plastic containers. Plastic utensils. It seems like the minimum amount of thinking has gone into making the customer experience enjoyable. read more

The restaurant is only open for a short window of time 11-3pm so I decided to get it door dashed (it was our last day & we had a lot going on.) everything was prepared quickly & within 15 minutes my order was ready! I ordered a single chicken & the curry but they were out of curry so instead the business subbed with the coconut beans. The chicken was extremely flavorful & cooked to perfection. I loved the habanero & green sauces that came with the meal - they added a great punch. The rice was good too. The salad was just some kind of greens so that was more of an after thought. I did like the beans but I felt they were too rich to finish. I am definitely happy I got to try this spot this time around as it's been bookmarked for quite some time now. Would recommend!
