I've never shopped at Madewell. When I entered, it looked surprising familiar -- a lot of the clothes looked very similar to clothes in my closet. It is affiliated with J. Crew, where I shop a lot of the time. However, I didn't think the sales were that great (not when J Crew had a 50 percent off sale) and unfortunately a lot of the sizes were very very tiny. Which made me feel bad. Mostly because I couldn't see the prices on the tiny tiny tags with their tiny tiny print and then I realized that the sizes were inside on the label. Huge shoutout to Naive (hope I'm spelling his name right). A lovely associate who assisted us in the store for quite some time yesterday. He located what we wanted, provided shipping options for what they didn't have in store and was so lovely during the visit. It's rare to find the perfect store associate but Naive has got it. He's helpful but not pushy. Kind but not inauthentic. Retail is hellish right now and sales associates are very understandably burnt out, so Naive's help and positivity was a bright spot in our shopping trip. Other store associates present were similarly attentive without being too clingy. Very nice visit overall. read more

I had a great experience at this store. Their customer service was fantastic! All the salespeople were so helpful and sweet, and not at all pushy. They magically appeared when I needed them, and let me do my own thing when I just wanted to browse. They also didn't bat an eye when I wanted to try on 20 things, and hung everything so nicely in the fitting room for me. I loved how they didn't stand around and give me compliments like at other stores, which makes me feel pressured to buy what I'm trying on. I always feel guilty when someone gushes "I loooove that on you it fits you PERFECTLY!!!" and then I don't want it. So I really liked the freedom they gave me at Madewell even though there weren't that many people in the store. They also have amazing sales! Sometimes they have an additional 40% off sale, where you can snag deals like jeans for $40 and tee shirts for $15. I find that their in-store sales are much cheaper than online. I like to price check when i get home, and sometimes the things i bought at a major discount are full price online (which, of course, makes me feel smug and pleased with myself). Their stuff is such good quality and is so comfortable. Their jeans feel like jeggings but are actually jeans. Also, for petite ladies like myself, their ankle jeans are a great length. You can also get an additional 15% off with a college ID! Can't beat that! If you're at Old Orchard, you must stop by and check out their sale section. I was so happy when I saw "Coming Soon" sign in the storefront. My trips to NYC always consisted of a stop at Madewell, so I'm glad I can visit it much more frequently now (downside: we now have to pay sales tax online). Madewell's a sister company of J.Crew -- the style is a little hipper and less preppy. I love Madewell, especially their sweaters/cardigans and soft,soft shirts. It's definitely pricey, but the quality is good and they always have sales. read more

Amazing customer service? Not even close. My sisters and I were not even get greeted at the door. And we were the only people who were in the building with the workers. Not even a friendly smile. Madewell clothing is not worth the money and time based on the lack of effort in their workers who are representing the brand. Put in the effort to "help and welcome" customers, instead of walking around the store acting like everyone else is invisible. Welcome every single person as if they were all equally interested in purchasing your clothing. read more

There is always something cute here. I'm not even really a scarfy person, and I like their style. I'm glad there is finally a store in the Chicago area. I stopped in today, the staff was really friendly, and I left with some jeans and 2 tops. I wanted a bracelet but held myself back. I had only been at the SoHo location before, so when I discovered that there was a Madewell in Illinois....cue a freeze frame shot of me jumping in the air, complete with fist-pump. All the girls who worked there was so helpful and friendly. It was a fantastic experience. I walked away with an awesome new boyfriend sweater and the feeling like I had made new friends- which was weirdly awesome. Way to have fantastic customer service! I will officially go out of my way to get to Old Orchard just so I can go back here. read more

I know it's weird having a Californian like myself giving this place a review but let me explain. I called today to look for the Regan boot and a wonderful sales associate named Abbey answered my call of desperation. I tried ordering these must have boots online but it sold out while I was checking out and it came back sold out online. Not to be deterred, I called my local Madewell store looking for them! Unfortunately it was sold out in CA. But the sales associate in CA gave me a ray of hope and said this store might still carry them. Needless to say I called ASAP! The phone was answered by none other than Abbey and she was fantastic! Not only did she find them for me but also helped me purchase them over the phone. She was not bothered by my quest for the perfect boots and was patient enough to laugh at my stupid jokes! I was please beyond anything words can express! I shop at all the hip places in LA like Barneys NY, reformation, saks fifth ave, YSL, Gucci and so on but the best service I have ever gotten was at Madewell. They don't care if you go shop there looking like a total slob or a nameless caller on the phone. They will give you full service no matter what! I love Madewell! As the mother of 3 daughters in their 20s, I frequently shop in Madewell stores across the country. We had ordered a few items to be shipped to my daughter in NYC because her size was not in stock. Due to a miscommunication with the Post Office, the shipment was returned and the items no longer available. My daughter was really upset. I called the Old Orchard store to see if they had the items in stock. Megan was so helpful! Old Orchard did not have the items, but she was able to locate them in other stores. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this level of service! read more

I love this store! Like Jenny H., the previous reviewer, I always have a fantastic experience in this store. The sales associates are always so helpful without making you feel pressured to buy. Kate once helped me locate a sweater they didn't have in stock and found it through their other branch. She also always seems to be there with my every visit and always have been helpful finding my size or pieces, and giving style advice. On a recent visit, Gina helped me determine my size for the oxfords I fell in love with online (not stocked in their shop) by letting me try on a pair of loafers which I also ended up purchasing (oxfords were purchased through their phone which they call making a "send sale"...smooth and easy process). Megan was another associate who was so warm and so helpful with my exchange and purchases. They are always willing and happy to help, yet never pushy with sales! What a wonderful warm and enthusiastic team. LOVE! Yes, the items are pricey but they are indeed well made and will see you through many happy years. They do have at times, surprisingly, items on sale in store and not online which is just another incentive to step into the store. Not that I need more convincing. The fact that you always feel welcome in this store is more than enough to keep you coming back. That and their beautiful well-crafted shoes. read more

I really want to like this place- it seems pretty cool and I liked everything the associates were wearing. But unfortunately, the place had hardly any inventory the day I went last week. The sale rack was really picked over and the spring items were also sparsely displayed. The only things they seemed to have a lot of were booties and jeans, neither of which I currently need. I did pick up some lingerie, which was unexpected but it was on sale and cute. Sadly, the tank I wanted was super snagged and they didn't have another in my size. The staff were very cool and attentive and I would go back but it was kind of a "meh" first visit. Online, there is a lot more to choose from. Oh, also- why don't they take the J.Crew card if they are the same company?? read more

I could just hang out in this store. I love the clothes and decor that much. Their main products are jeans, cords, woven shirts (mostly plaid), and sweaters. They also have purses, shoes, and clutches. But, while I totally love this store, down to the toy cameras on display, I can get plaid shirts at the thrift store, pair them with jeans, and pretty much look the same. I'll still shop here though. Just keep that in mind. read more

Amazing customer service! The staff at this location always graciously finds me a size that is not on the floor or helps put together an outfit. Last time I visited the store I mistakenly left my jacket in the fitting room- and they shipped it to me without second thought! So appreciative of those small gestures! read more
