We were drawn in by some pictures and reviews of the unique flavors. I wanted to love the donuts, but they were obviously vegan. They have a nice display of the donuts of the day when you walk in. Unfortunately, they were out of the strawberry one my daughter wanted. The donuts were a little dry and dense, likely due to the absence of eggs. The lime rickey was oily and bland, the chocolate was like a dry brownie. The ordering process could be improved. We ordered and waited for close to 5 minutes. The person cleaning the dining area finally walked back and started boxing the donuts. Most donut shops grab as you order. Not a big deal since we weren't in a rush, but slightly annoying since there were more workers in the back. The dining area is nice and I liked that they have water available. Overall, I think these are probably great donuts if you're vegan. If you're not vegan, they might not be what you're used to. read more

Our first visit to Lovebirds will not be our last! When we walked in the door, the welcoming ambiance made us excited for the treats that were in store. When you walk in, the available donuts are displayed neatly in glass display cases. Ordering and paying is a breeze, and there are four available milk alternatives for coffees and lattes. The donuts are divine and decadent. Our family selected seven flavors, and they were all winners. Wow!! I am not vegan but really wanted to try this place since I follow them on Instagram and their donuts look amazing. My husband went down this morning to go get a few and he said it was super busy. Now I know why! We got the Boston cream, maple cream, and chocolate ganache dipped. He said the ordering process was easy (walked up to the register outside) and the staff was friendly. We were blown away with the taste of these. I went into it honestly thinking they would just be ok since they were vegan, but I wouldn't be able to even tell the difference in comparison to a non vegan donut. The donuts were light and fluffy, and the glazes were super flavorful. The chocolate glaze was superb. The filled ones weren't packed with filling but having said that, it was actually the perfect amount for the size and sweetness of the donut. We will definitely be back to try lots more! I had heard about Love Birds, and originally would drive up from Massachusetts to get donuts for my daughter who is vegan, with limited vegan dessert options in her area. I originally had literally, no interest in eating vegan donuts..,ever, until I tried them. I don't know how they make them taste so good? The variety of types of donuts from the traditional standard glazed, to the very creative, all with "innovative" ingredients make it worth the drive. I've never written a yelp review before... but I just LOVE LOVEBIRDS SOOOO MUCH!!!! Dang, I wish I could give more than 5 stars. They deserve a whole solar system. These are not just donuts that you are buying - you are purchasing a transformative experience. I don't think I knew what "love" was until I took that first bite (...please don't tell my girlfriend...). The hour of driving is worth it for this cathartic renewal (...she thinks that I'm "going grocery shopping"...). Their webpage is my most visited site, as I anxiously await our next encounter and the latest flavors (...I needed to create a finsta just so she wouldn't see how I like all of their posts...). Also, their photography of their donuts are incredible (...I have pictures of my favs hidden behind a picture of her in my wallet...). I'm just curious - where is the Lovebirds merchandise?!? There are very few restaurants that I can say are a MUST visit for an area. But this is one of them. If you don't go out of your way to stop in at Lovebirds you are depriving yourself of a wonderful experience. They have so many options and consistently maintain a high quality product. We ended up having donuts from Lovebirds a few times during our recent vacation in Kittery, and while they aren't the best ones I have ever had, they are pretty darn good. This is a pretty popular spot to grab donuts at, based on the lines and availability (or lack thereof) if you show up later, so coming early on is recommended for sure. In these abnormal times, you place the order outside and wait in your car for the donuts to be brought to you; my main (if minor) gripe was that it did take quite a bit longer for our donuts to show up than I would have thought...perhaps the donuts are made fresh on the spot? They are quite good nonetheless, though; the categories of donuts are split up into classics, swanky (which are slightly fancier, more involved donuts that are marginally more expensive), and ones that fall more towards traditional flavors. I did prefer the fluffier brioche donuts to the cake-like ones, which are fairly dense. The 'swanky' ones can be a bit unwieldy for eating - for example, the strawberry shortcake donut is basically a donut cut in half and jammed with a bunch of cream and strawberry slices - but they are quite delicious. My favorite one of the whole bunch was probably the brioche version of the cinnamon sugar donut; the airiness of each bite paired with the papery texture of the sugar crystals was a winner for me. Others were a bit more straightforward and less interesting; the 'chocolate dip ganache' sounds quite fancy but is really just a brioche donut topped with chocolate frosting (albeit a bit deeper in flavor) and some sprinkles. Overall, you probably won't find better donuts in the immediate area, so if you are hankering for some tasty calorie bombs to start your day, Lovebirds is not a bad place to start at all. Worth a visit while in town, and likely will lead to a repeat visit as well. read more

TOO SWEET. Two stars for being vegan and one for good service and venue. I've gone here quite a few times and appreciate the vegan fare, but they seriously need to cut back on the sugar. The berry jam donuts are especially disappointing, because I'm expecting a nice, tart jam inside an already sweet brioche, but the inside is sickening! Ok. So Congdons was closed on a Monday. So we gave this place another try since our visit in 2020. Kudos guys! It was SO MUCH better this time. Got a variety again. But this time. We stopped at love birds because it sounded so good and looked good once we looked in. The staff was.not too welcoming but we thought that the donuts would be worth it. They were overpriced in the first place. I got a yeast donut versus the cake and it was pretty good. The monkey bread cinnamon was okay but i thought it should of been at least warm and fresh as we were watching all these donuts being made. THE WORST THING WAS THE CAKE DONUTS. The way this muffin can be torn apart if not only appealing but mouth watering and the glaze is amazing. I would give this one a try. My 2nd choice would be the chocolate glaze. This donut's texture and moistness is just to die for. The glaze on top is also amazing but I think again the texture is the best part. I couldn't have enough of this one. My first choice with no doubt would be the brioche glaze. This one has no words to describe it. It is, dare I say, as good as the Crispy Creme glazed donut, and if you're an avid donut lover like myself you know that that means a lot. I was excited to see a new business in this location. Great parking and near to the shops but far enough away to be easy to get into and out of. We stopped by on a Saturday morning. Loved the decor - especially the lovebirds preparing the coffee. Cute. There was a line but it went very fast. The doughnuts here are amazing. Such funky flavors. We went with a lime rickey (amazing) and a strawberry shortcake. So incredibly decadent and rich. Both fantastic and just lovely flavor combinations. The only negative for us was the cold brew. I'm a cream person but they only offered Vegan so you had oat milk, coconut milk, soy milk and almond milk to pick from. I respect the choice but coconut really did not work in our cold brew. In retrospect, perhaps we should have gone without anything in it. Which was a bummer as the doughnuts were so amazing. So, if you're a cream lover like me, go for the doughnuts because they are 10 star amazing, yummy, omg what am I eating creations and probably get a black coffee or use cream when you get home.
