We grabbed a table on the massive two-story back patio, which was comfortably heated with numerous well-spaced patio heaters. The communal wooden tables really gave the space a lively, social atmosphere that perfectly set the good-vibes only energy. Ordered the "Drive Thru" burger and could not have been more satisfied. Friends got doubles, but even with my single patty I had tons to feast on. Not a crazy thick patty, but in combination with the melted cheese, it was flavorful and juicy and simply hit the right spot. I appreciated that it came loaded with finely shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles with some secret sauce unlike some burger joints. They have a healthy selection of beers, the ideal pairing for the meal. The fries leaned a bit too salty for my taste, and while the chili fries stayed impressively crisp instead of turning soggy, they were also on the saltier side. great burgers with a caveat. simple, well made, and a fantastic ambiance. the only drawback, and a fairly big one, is the wait in order to eat. you are able to order drinks while you wait, which are all locally sourced, but be prepared to wait easily up to an hour in order to be sat. BUT, once you are sat, the experience is delightful. the atmosphere and staff are warm, friendly, and hip. the prices are not bad at all, the star of the show was their sauce, and the burgers definitely hold their own in a fairly competitive scene. 7.5/10 read more

I've been to Lovely's five times now, and there is a definite pattern to the experience. The Good: The food is consistently great, they nail it every single time, which makes the wait worth it. The ambiance, both inside and outside, is amazing with a genuinely cool vibe. That's exactly why we keep coming back. The Real Talk: The service is just okay. The waiters are friendly, but you need to know going in that once you're seated, you'll be fetching your own water, sauces, and napkins (which makes the tip ask feel a bit odd). Additionally, the wait times can be intense. On our last three visits, we ordered the same thing: two Drive-Thru burgers and a side of fries; it took a little over 45 minutes from payment to table, costing nearly $55 every time. Note: We sat near the bar, and an employee accidentally dropped a tray of dirty dishes. While cleaning it up, the tray was tossed onto the floor and hit my girlfriend. We totally get that accidents happen and there was no malice behind it, but it's worth noting. Understandably one of the top smash burgers in the city, and at an affordable price! We love coming here early (right around open at 5pm-ish) so we can snag a table since it gets quite busy. Order a beer or two at your table, and then someone will come around to take your burger order.. the drive thru with jalapeños never fail for me, with a side of fries. The back patio is lovely to sit in while you inhale your burger and beer, but don't come too late because you'll have to wait in quite the line! The weather has been amazing recently, and eating burgers/fries in their ambient outdoor patio out back was such a good vibe. Heat lamps are provided for those chillier evenings, too. We got the Drive Thru burgers, which come with shredded lettuce, American cheese, some special sauce, and a hefty burger patty. Honestly a very standard but perfect hamburger. The tables at the back patio are long picnic style tables with benches that you will most likely have to share with another group. They sit 8 at a table. My boyfriend and I were seated at a table that was later filled with a group of 6, which made things feel a bit crowded. Being elbow to elbow with another stranger wasn't the most comfortable dining experience. We ordered two double burgers -- the drive thru and the picnic, and shared an order of fries. Our order finally arrived at 9:00. The menu does state that their kitchen is small and to please be patient when demand is high, but 40 minutes for 2 burgers and fries felt longer than expected. Both burgers were solid. It was missing the thin crispy edges I'd expect from a smash burger. I loved the thick cut pickles and the addition of red onions in the picnic. Was craving a Chicago hotdog and found this place near by. Hotdog was made to perfection. Even the sports peppers on the dog were spicy and tangy. My husband ordered the picnic burger and was able to make it vegetarian with an impossible patty. He kept bragging how delicious it was and devoured every bite. We also got a side of cheese fries which were phenomenal and def hot the spot. MY husband tried their Untitled Art IPA, which is non alcoholic. Where do I start, ever since my best friend introduced me to Lovely's it has been my favorite smash burger spot. Every-time we go we eat in silence because that is just how delicious the burger is. The service is amazing every time I walk in I say to myself a "the requirements to work here must be great fashion sense, coolness and to bring great vibes" but seriously everyone is always kind and super helpful. The patio on a nice sunny day is amazing after a long day of work, I do recommend getting there early so you can snag a seat on the patio because they get busy. My husband and I were looking for a new burger spot to put into our rotation. It was funny because we were originally looking for restaurants to eat at in Oakland, and came across Lovely's, but then found out they actually had opened another outpost in SF! Finally got a chance to try it and it was delicious. They have a small variety of burgers, basically all different types of traditional burgers, if that makes sense. I really loved my "Picnic Burger" which was a burger with cold cheddar cheese, red raw onion, pickle, lettuce, tomato, mayo, ketchup, mustard, and sesame bun. I really love a burger with raw onions, and overall fresh lettuce and tomato - this was it!!!! I didn't really care for the cold cheese, would have preferred melted, but it was still a really satisfying burger. I got a single patty, which was on the medium/thin thickness side, fatty, juicy and salty. I did like the regular french fries on the side too....the flavor was salty, texture pillowy on the inside and crispy on the outside, and medium thickness, my favorite! They did seem like the bottom of the batch though, with very short fries about 1" long - I like mine a bit longer than that! My husband got the "Drive Thru" burger, which had melted American cheese and grilled onions. This was also an amazing burger - the cheese and overall taste were just extremely satisfying. It was fun to compare the two burgers amongst each other. We did get a Cult Classic hot dog too, which was quite disappointing. The sausage was a little too thin, and was too dry. I can't really remember if the bun or fixings were good, because the sausage portion was so disappointing. Service here was kind of irritating. I guess you just sit down first come first serve. But, your waiter/waitress will only take your food order. If you want drinks, you have to order them (with a separate purchase) from the bar. Why can't we just order all together in one tab? Annoying. And why can't they be open for lunch? This place is so good! They should be open for lunch and dinner! The ambiance is super cute for this restaurant though. They have a really cute outdoor seating (although it looked cold so we sat inside), and even the indoor portion is retro and fun. It feels like they took some old parts of a burger place (i.e. the ice box, the retro booth seating) and modernized other parts of it. Solid burger spot with great cozy outdoor seating. It gets PACKED early - it's not uncommon to be waiting for 1+ hours and they don't take reservations. They open at 5. Either get there at 4:30/4:45 for the first wave or go at like 6 to try to catch the next wave. Mostly benches outside, but it's a contained area which is nice for kids. I came on a weekend so it was pretty busy. Burgers start at 1pm on Sundays and I got there at about 1:15pm. The tables were all full and there was an area reserved for a birthday party so we got some wine at the counter and waited for a table outside. There was a host who let us know when a table was open. It took about 25min which wasn't too bad. Definitely expect to wait a little if you come on the weekend! It's not a bad wait since you can order drinks to sip while waiting. Got the drive thru burger with an extra patty and fries! It was so good. Reminded me of In N Out since it came with a similar burger sauce. My roommate wanted to check out this place from seeing it viral online! We came on a Thursday around 6:00 PM, and the place was busy. Because it's a brewery, you have to get your ID checked as you come in. For outdoor seating in the patio, there's a line that forms in the back. The wait for us was about 15 minutes. Smaller parties can get grouped up together at larger tables. The waitstaff back there were very busy but happy to help if needed. I got a Drive Thru Burger and split an order of regular Fries with my roommate. The burger was pretty solid -- loved the sesame bun, and the smash burger patty was nice and crispy. It was a very wet burger, however, and the paper wrap got soggy after a short time, so look out for that. I really liked the fries! Okay...............what the hell? I read some of the reviews before coming here and understood it's a burger place combined with a bar. What no one tells you is that it's COMPLETELY ridiculous, unclear, and unorganized. We waited in a long line to order but when we got to the front, we were told it's only to order beer and that we could only order food (to dine in) if we found a table?! It's pretty much a chaotic free for all. There aren't many tables inside. Patrons sat in their tables drinking even though they were no longer eating. If someone who came in after you hovers over a table, then they would get to eat first. This system makes absolutely no sense. We stood there for 30 min with no luck. We ended up wasting our money on drinks, standing at the door waiting, only to end up not eating. Even if we ordered to go, I have no idea how long I'd have to wait for that since most people sitting had no food. Left irritated and hungry. Don't wish to come back. A pun returning back to lovelies, there's a gentle woman with a bob in a wave. She refused to provide me her name. There's a cook named Aiden, who seemed to be slightly apologetic, but no one was able to provide me a manager's name on who I could contact which is absolutely crazy. I hope someone contacts me back. After 40 minutes of waiting for two burgers, one of them was not even made properly now I have to walk back and ask for the burger to be remade. I really hope management does something with the staff. This is just ridiculous. A great brewery and a solid burger spot sharing the same space? Sounds like a dream! Just one problem: someone forgot to tell the staff. Listen, I can see why people dig the burgers -- but the staff was unfriendly to the point of being downright rude. And the dynamic between the two businesses felt like a turf war: Woods invites you in for a drink, to hang out and enjoy the back patio -- then Lovely's tries to push you out as quickly as possible, regardless of whether you're still purchasing food and drinks. It's like the Xfinity model of business where the longer you're there, the worse they treat you. Honestly, there are so many amazing smash burger places in SF. I'd rather hit up Hamburguesa Bar, or another spot where the staff actually wants you there. Or skip the burger altogether and hang out at a brewery like Standard Deviant, where the staff is friendly, you can grab a spot anywhere, stay as long as you want, and order food from whatever business is on site that day. read more

I've been on a quest to try all the best burger spots in SF, and Lovely's/Woods was next on my list. I've passed by before, and there's always a line out the door. The area is really lively, which is nice, and I went around 7 PM on a Saturday, so I was expecting to wait, and wait we did. It took about 20 minutes to get into the bar to order a drink, and another 20 minutes to get a table. Once we were seated, it took a long time before anyone came by. I didn't mind waiting for the table, but once we were seated, I would've appreciated more attentive service. We ordered the Picnic and the Drive Thru burgers with a side of fries. The food took a while, but the heaters kept it comfortable, and the ambiance is very energetic. The burgers did not disappoint. They were filling without being greasy, and the toppings actually tasted fresh, which a lot of burger spots overlook. I really liked the sesame bun too. Overall, it was a good experience.
