I am unfortunately addicted to coming here on a Sunday & having a brew + a burger, this is by far one of the best burgers I've had & I am not a huge burger fan, so far I've tried the chicken sando, drive thru burger, fries, hush puppies, and soft serve. Unfortunately since I do come on Sundays I have not been able to get my greedy hands on the fish sandwich. The service is always amazing, they have a great manager running the joint (I spoke with a man he was sooo helpful & kind) and the ambiance is just overall good vibes. You can find families, friends, all walks of life here enjoying their meal/day. I've come here 4x since the first time I tried it which was like a month ago. The slightly more "mom-and-pop"/Oakland In-N-Out option for a well-price and greatly executed burger. We first visited this on the "Burger Tour" (still waiting on the party, t-shirt, and any sort of accolade from that ruse...) and were impressed. It was the best straight forward burger (Kon-Tiki and Jo's Modern Thai were fun). Lovely's often patiently fuels my run club after we come back, but I do wish they would figure something out to be more efficient. The line can be atrocious so I wouldn't even bother on unfortunately our run club or trivia nights. Also, the non-burger items are mediocre to only slightly above average. This was my second time eating at Lovely's, and while I didn't write a review after my first visit, this time I had to. The first time around, I ordered the Drive-Thru (which came recommended), but I left unimpressed. This recent visit was a totally different story. I went with the Hot Chicken sandwich, and it was delicious ($15 here). I'm usually skeptical of chicken sandwiches in general partly because the price is often steep, and I rarely find them to be much better than a $7 Popeyes sandwich. So I ordered this one with low expectations, especially since I wasn't in the mood for a smash burger. But I was happily surprised. The chicken was perfectly crispy, the sauce had just the right kick, and the spice rub brought real flavor, not just heat. That's something I really appreciate because I love spice, but I dislike when it's just hot without depth. This sandwich had both. My partner ordered the Vegan Drive-Thru and absolutely loved it. Lovely's uses Impossible meat and can modify any of their burgers to be vegan, including vegan cheese, which isn't always an option. That kind of flexibility is a huge plus. The fries were okay not especially exciting on their own, but the sauces totally elevated them. I think the fries are meant to be eaten with the sauces, and once you do, they make a lot more sense. To wrap things up, we had their soft serve, which was a perfect way to end the meal. It was a warm afternoon and we ate outside, and something about it made me feel like a kid in the summertime again, simple, sweet, and nostalgic in the best way. All in all, I'm glad I gave Lovely's a second chance. The hot chicken sandwich alone made it worth coming back, and the thoughtful vegan options make it a great spot for mixed dietary preferences. Jamie W and I finally tried this popular spot after strolling around Lake Merritt on an especially warm day. We were dumbstruck at the long line in what appeared to be a converted vacant lot. There were at least thirty people ahead of us. Such a crawl. We were more than ready to place our order at the window. Then we had to wait for one of the benches to open up. Damn, I'm too old for this. We decided to share three things. For what it is, this place is actually pretty great. Apparently, a lot of people think so because it was extremely busy. Food - we tried a burger, a fish sandwich, and a fried chicken burger. They were all absolutely delicious. The buns were soft and fresh, the toppings were delicious, the meats were cooked to perfection. We also tried the fries which were fine and the corn fritters which were a little less popular with our group, but they're kind of an acquired taste. It's nice that you can go over to the bar next-door and they have a counter right there and order beers and beverages. The ambience in the evening is actually fairly festive, it's just a bunch of outdoor picnic tables crammed on top of each other with a few party lights. There is a security guard and it's protected from the street. That block doesn't actually seem particularly sketchy, we didn't feel uncomfortable walking back to our car at night. The prices were good. I actually got a beer for three bucks. My one complaint is this, and I didn't ding them a star for it, but they really should address this... If you want an ice cream, you either need to order it when you order your burger, which makes no sense, or wait in line for another 40 minutes. They really should rethink that and have a separate window for ice cream and sodas. Note that on a busy night, it does take a really long time to get through the line and then to wait for your food. This place is a hidden gem for sure, out door communal seating to some more intimate seating inside. I ordered the chilli Willie burger and it def reminds me of Tommy's out of SoCal!!! The Works fries are sooooo tasty, should've ordered one just for myself instead of sharing lol! Noise level can sometimes be a bit loud on the inside of the warehouse shell. I have been wanting to try this place for a while but it is always closed when I am there. I finally got the chance to try it and it did not disappoint. Be prepare for a long line/ to wait. Kind of regretting not opting out for in-n-out... Our order was given out to somebody else on accident which is an honest mistake but how they chose to rectify that mistake is bad practice. Instead of prioritizing remaking our order, we have been waiting for nearly 40 minutes at this point, they are still PUSHING out orders from people way behind us and from what they said they are just "trying to cut down the line". Yeah I get that but you do that by starting on the earliest orders, for example counting the one you f*cked up on. We finally got to eat our two burgers and fries after an hour wait. I don't think there are any meals or establishments that warrant an hour wait especially for two burgers and fries. Kind of sucks cause I've been here once before with coworkers and wanted to show this spot to my partner but it's given us a bad first impression. The food is good but I didn't leave with a great desire to return. Hmmm it was a decent burger but in my opinion overhyped. Pros: good char, nice composition of toppings, not wet (I hate a wet burger!), nice guy taking our order. Two Pitchers played fun moody alt rock music from the 2000s Cons: slow (pretty short line but still took 25 min to order and 15 min to get the food). Corn fritters were doughy and meh. Fried chicken sandwich pales in comparison to hotboys. Fries were nothing to write home about I would recommend if you're looking for a chill place to hang out and drink beer and have burgers. A great place to go with a group of friends! They share a lot with Two Pitchers brewery so good for friends that like to enjoy a beer with their burger. Majority of the seating is outdoors so it's great on a warm day. You order at the counter, get a number and they bring your food over. Their portions are hefty! I barely finished my burger. I also really enjoy their special sauce, whatever is in it is magical. The corn fritters weren't my favorite as they were a bit greasy and didn't taste like much. Lovely's produces delicious food. Period. Their smash burger is one of the best I've had in the Bay Area, as is their buttermilk hot chicken sandwich. For the smash burger, the patty is smashed so thin, it takes on a lace-like structure that's crunchy with each bite. The hot chicken is indeed very spicy and had me sweating. Great battering on the outside as well -- extremely crispy. Both the smash burger and the chicken patty were seasoned nicely. The burger buns were fresh and the soft texture complemented the burgers nicely. The burgers here are extraordinarily juicy from the added sauce, so you'll definitely want to grab some extra napkins, as you'll certainly be making a mess working through the burger. Moving on to the not-so-good parts of dining at Lovely's... the wait is as bad as everyone states. I waited 45 minutes to place my order and another 45 minutes to pick up my food. Honestly, this is absolutely absurd. Furthermore, the order batching the kitchen does means if your friend makes the first cut and you make the second, you guys will be dining 30 minutes apart from each other. Operational inefficiencies make me hate Lovely's so much, and yet their burgers are irresistible. If you have the time and patience -- and a LOT of it, I would give Lovely's a try. I have been to lovely's multiple times since moving to Oakland and every time it hits the spot! This is clearly a local favorite with a massive line every time I have come. The burgers are incredible in quality, with my favorite being the drive thru. Their fries are also really good with a lot of sauce options (although they cost extra). The burger is pretty solid, and the schmaltz onion, which are onions cooked in chicken fat, is pretty good ( can feel rich and heavy after some time ). The place is very casual, you order at a window and wait for your buzzer to go off before you pick your order up at another window. There is outdoor seating as well as indoor with the brewery. The indoor area is pretty cool. Feels super hipster. They have events throughout the weekdays and board games you can borrow while you sit. My first and last visit. Picture it, Friday night, date night. I'd been hearing g about this place for a bit so me and My Love decide to take a trip to downtown and enjoy. Well parking is horrible but we lucked into a great spot after circling the area for about 5 minutes #SCORE! Anyway, we walk inside, navigate through the 30 minute wait in line and place our order. 2 fishwich, 1 smash burger, fries and the kind gentleman at the window tells us fish is sold out then point to a sign IN THE WINDOW that's is smaller than the palm of my hand showing no fish. Now I've been salivating at the thought of fish for my dinner. But nope, Lovely's staff doesn't think it's their responsibility to notify of the food shortages BEFORE you wait in that line, in the cold, listening to the conversation of the annoying customer that works for Oakland Uniform standing in front of us. And to top it off, I ask why there is no notification and the guy at the counter says there something out there and points back to the smaller than my palm sign. I was hotter than the fish grease they had in the back!!! I mean H.O.T.!!! (Period) I decided to not order anything and take myself elsewhere. Needless to say I will not be back. Horrible service. I waited 35 minutes in line to order and then another 20 to get the food. It is spectacular, tastes like the best homemade burgers and fried chicken. The fries are thick and crispy but soft on the inside. The fried chicken sandwich had tender, juicy and flavored chicken with a salty breading that made you keep eating. This was my first time here. I came for the fish sandwich and of course I located this spot on Yelp. There is a line outside to order food. The line was long when I arrived, maybe 14-16 people in front of me but it moved. Ordered my food, Thanks for being such a jewel Michelle (super pleasant) took only 15 mins for my food to be done. I ordered the fish sandwich and corn fritters comes with 5pcs. My total rounded up was $27. The corn fritters are delicious, I would order them again. The fish sandwich was good but I didn't like seeing the skin when I bit into it, it's a me thing. I know fish have skin, I just don't want to see anything dark when biting into fish but nevertheless, I had several bites and I was satisfied. I've already told a friend about it and we will be back. Lovely's has a solid burger if you're into the smash burger style. Super fresh and great ingredient quality. I will say the long lines and relatively slow service are a hindrance. I get that they probably have limited staff who are able to serve as runners, but there's got to be a more efficient system. It can sometimes lead to long delays in getting food or even being able to order. Otherwise, the vibes are always great here. This was our first stop on a burger tour and we got the drive thru that was a smash burger and came with American cheese, onions, pickles, iceberg lettuce, tomato, special sauce and sesame bun. The sides are also super yummy and worth the additional crisp ~ the corn fritters are a different but delicious treat! If you're not a burger babe, our friends have recommended trying the Classic Fried Chicken Sandwich or epic Fishwich served on a potato bun. Next time, I would love to try their Coney Island all beef hot dog served with chili, shreds of cheddar, mustard & onion. If you're not the biggest fan of lines, would recommend coming on the earlier side if you can. Pretty good spot for a burger. The line can get quite long so come on a good night and early! I usually get the classic burger.
