This was my first visit to the Loving Cafe. Although I'm not vegan (or even vegetarian) I do love vegetables, grains, etc., and numerous friends had recommended this small local eatery. In short, I will definitely go back...! Ratings-wise, the ambiance isn't quite 5 star (cobwebs), but the food certainly comes close. The Udon noodles were not the thick, rounded variety I expected (their shape was flat, more like linguine) but the dish was delicious. It featured sauteed organic onion and carrot, bell peppers, broccoli, mushrooms, sweet peas and cabbage. Lots of fresh vegetables, really rich flavors. And I honestly think the soy protein (which looked like the soft strips of beef you'd expect to find in Chinese beef & broccoli take-out) could fool most meat-eaters. Soy meat substitutes have clearly come a loooooong way in the last decade, and the wonderful people at the Loving Cafe know how to prepare them well. The entree was delicious, hot, and reasonably priced. I look forward to returning and exploring their menu. read more

We've had worse, but we've definitely had better. I was excited to try this place because of the rave reviews. When you cook vegan, a world of opportunity in terms of spices and cooking methods is open to you. All of this food was bland. The corn chowder was okay at best with random unmentioned pepper slices that made the bowl taste like one sweet pepper broth. There was no depth whatsoever. The summer rolls were bland, and the lettuce was dirty. The sweet and sour tofu was overwhelming sweet with no contrast. Finally, the only food cooked well was the brown rice. Really surprised at all the 5 star reviews. I am not vegetarian, but I have eaten at a few other such restaurants in other cities and have found some really good food. Unfortunately that was not the case at Loving Cafe. Started off with the angel fingers. They were very small, about the size of a pencil. They were okay, but came with very, very little dipping sauce (it was simply drizzled on the plate). I had the asparagus soup, which did not appear to be made with fresh vegetables. They were all little uniform squares, like from a can of Campbell's vegetable soup. The asparagus appeared to be from a can also, what little there was of it. My wife got the pistachio mushroom soup, which was blended into a paste type soup. It was decent, but certainly did not have the complexity expected from the ingredient list on the menu. The sandwiches were by far the worst part of the meal. I got the vegan BLT. Whatever the fake meat they used was, it had zero resemblance to bacon, and zero flavor. I have tried grocery store vegan bacon, which wasn't bad, and at least cooked up crisp. This stuff was 1/2 inch thick, soft and tasteless. The wife's grilled pineapple sandwich was even worse, a sloppy tasteless mess. The pineapple appeared to also be from a can (it looked nothing like the one in the picture on this site). Both sandwiches were supposed to have onion on them, neither did. Too bad as that would at least add some flavor. I can only assume that most of the 5 star reviews come from people who have never had properly prepared vegetarian food. it was obvious by the other diners that the place doesn't cater to true vegetarians, or even healthy eaters, as a great many of them were considerably overweight. If you want to trick yourself into thinking you are doing your bodies a big favor by eating canned veggies and some sort of fake mystery meat, well have at it. I would rather go to a place with at least a minimum of ambiance and have a salad. read more

It's been a while since I've eaten here, but this wonderful, vegan's paradise, pops up in my mind so often. Too bad I live far away. The dishes are so delicious, even pricier restaurants don't come close in quality. The atmosphere is casual and homey, so not at all intimidating to someone new who ventures in. The most amazing food for vegetarians and vegans. I am neither but enjoy the food because it is delicious and healthy. Only downside is wait time for your food is LONG. Come in with a mild appetite because you will wait for a while. Good food, slow service. We ordered 3 entrees, on appetizer, and two smoothies. I just ate here for lunch while on a trip. I ordered the burrito with a side salad and it was really good. The side salad was made with spring mix instead of just iceberg or romaine and had a variety of veggies in it. The dressing was delicious, like a vegan Caesar dressing. The burrito was very good. The protein strips were like "steak" and there was a cheesy eggplant sauce that was so tasty. It was very satiating but didn't make me feel heavy or gross. It did have cucumber in it which threw me off a little, but I actually liked the added crunch. I also got carrot cake to go, the cake part was moist and the frosting was very good, not cream cheese, but still very delicious. Whoa. Am I in Fort Wayne? Really? Because this place rivals any of the other large city vegan restaurants or small hippie havens. The food here is INCREDIBLE. I ordered a basic salad, soup, and smoothie, and they were all 100% delicious and 100% fresh. I have never seen or tasted anything quite so fresh before. I am actually in awe? I will unashamedly be visiting here hopefully once a day from now on. The workers were incredibly sweet and nice, and I could hear them chopping my food up all fresh like in the back. YAY for vegan fare in Fort Wayne. (!!) The service at this small cafe is 5 star. The lady behind the counter is highly accomodating, and simply adorable. She remembers her frequent customers and greets them by their first name as they walk through the door. She is excited & passionate about offering fresh, organic, vegan foods to her guests. Instantly upon entering the building, I knew I was gonna get some damn good food. And I did. The food is 5 star. Between 2 of us, we ordered 6-7 different items off the menu. Everything looks so damn good, we simply couldn't decide on just one or two items. WE LOVED EVERYTHING. I will not fail to mention that we ordered 2 days worth of food for around $30. Cheap. I really wish they had a location in Indianapolis! I spent a few days in Fort Wayne for my job and was so happy to find this place. Since moving to vegetarian, and since I have many food allergies, I have to do research online before going out to eat. I found this place and i am so glad that I did. Everything I tried was delicious and there wasn't enough time to try half of what I'd have liked to. The food is excellent with good variety (even raw) and the staff was great. This place is a gem. The BEST fake meat ever!! Seriously, it tastes like the real deal. I was in Fort Wayne Fort barely a week, and I've been here 3 times. I even ran for a to go order and almost ended up missing my flight! I've tried the BBQ entree, the BBQ chicken sandwich, glass noodles, spring rolls, summer rolls, the golden soup, and the white bean soup. Each dish was amazing! I particularly recommend the BBQ sandwich bc the texture of the soy protein is so similar to that of chicken! And, it was tangy and flavorful! The white bean soup was amazing! Very flavorful and not too heavy, unlike the golden soup, which is curry based. The spring rolls are so good! Yes, it's fried, but it doesnt leave an oily film in my mouth after eating it. Summer rolls are decent, but nothing special. I havent tried a salad yet, but I will one day! The reason for 4 stars instead of the 5 is bc their menu is inconsistent. Although they advertise a great selection, they dont offer certain sandwiches, appetizers, soups, and entrees. Makes me a lil disappointed when they didnt have the salad, soup, sandwich, or entree I initially wanted to try. The website is also hard to navigate. Whenever I visit Fort Wayne, my Mom and I come here for lunch. It's soooo yummy. My Mom isn't a vegetarian, and she loves their vegan BLTs. Went here for the first time Saturday afternoon for lunch. Pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere in general! Very calm and zen. I'm definitely a meat lover and didn't even realize that my barbecue sandwich was vegetarian until half way through. I also ordered the potato kale soup, got delivered a bean soup by accident, was still really pleased, and ended up with both in the end so I took one home with the other half of my sandwich. The food was absolutely delicious, and I can't wait to go back. As far as price, it was just a tad above what I'd prefer to pay for a lunch, but once I found out that the business promotes recycled materials for to-go containers, sustainable foods, and that they cater to vegan friendly, gluten free menu, and still produce great quality, and tasting food with great presentation, I didn't mind so much. read more

Just love this place. If you're watching what you eat and want REAL food, order from their raw menu. Even comes with a delicious fruit smoothie. This is Fort Wayne's only real vegan restaurant to my knowledge. The people are friendly, the food delicious (to vegans and non-vegans alike), and the prices very reasonable for freshly prepared dishes made to order while you wait. The menu has several options and might surprise you to know that this little place can make so many awesome dishes! After placing your order, you will receive a number to take with you to your table. Over the past year or so I've been turned on to the fact that you don't have to be vegan to enjoy their food! This cafe has a light, fun and friendly atmosphere. They have a great selection (it's particularly large but not off-putting) I would highly recommend the almond and broccoli soup and the panini. The spices and ingredients used are fresh and tasty. This was my first visit to a Vegan restaurant and I absolutely loved it. Please understand that I didn't get to 265 by avoiding beef, chicken and pork. This was my 12th day trying the vegan way and I haven't missed the steak, wings or pulled pork yet. I started with the spring roll which was excellent. My $8.45 entree was the Vegan BLT with a bowl of White Chili. I'm not sure what the bacon was made of, but it may have been the best BLT I have ever had. If you think vegan is bland as I did, the Loving Cafe will change your mind. I highly recommend this no matter what you like to eat. Pretty tasty. Big menu with pictures on the tables, yet you have to order at the counter. I had the pistachio mushroom soup and it was hot and creamy, and delicious. My companion had the corn chowder and it had bell peppers, corn, broccoli, and cauliflower and was tasty. We both ordered a sandwich and they came with soup. He had the bbq chicken sandwich and I had the grilled pineapple with vegan patty sandwich. Both were super yummers. The soup was filling and I couldn't finish my sandwich. One of my very favorite places to eat when I'm seeking out something healthy. I first tried their food when they had free Happy Gyros at IPFW for Spring Fling several years ago. Since then, I've been hooked! I love taking new people here, and go out of my way to snatch a Happy Gyro and some spring rolls for dinner. Everything is extremely fresh and they promote sustainable foods. For meat lovers like me, you'd be hard-pressed to tell that their soy and tofu meat are imitations. The texture and flavor is simply perfect. I should expand to try more things on the menu, but I just adore the same things so much that I rarely get anything other than the Happy Gyro. It feels heartless leaving a three star review for a restaurant with such a great name, but since four stars would be too much of a stretch... heartless it is. But let's start with what's positive, such as some very nice (and tasty) menu items and a very helpful (and happy) staff. This is a nice place to go and it has a great feel. It's nothing fancy, but it's clean and it has a good vibe, as they say. I would advise fellow Yelpers to steer clear of the sandwiches, however, for two reasons. First, we've had a few - vegan BLT, steak burger, the harmony - and they all tasted sorta bland-o. Fresh items, but the sandwiches were too dry and with little to no zest. But what made them truly unworthy of recommendation was the way the items were cut... thick chunks of tomato, avocado, fake meat, etc. So as soon as you take a bite the chunks start sliding around like lego bricks and the whole thing starts to disintegrate. And since the sandwich wasn't that great to begin with, unfortunately, you soon grow weary of picking up the pieces and just call it a day. At least that's what we did, in our humble experiences. Apologies if this review comes off worse than it actually is. The Loving Cafe is A-ok, which is how Yelp defines their three star rating. This vegetarian/vegan restaurant was very good. I love the fact that the vast majority of the vegetables and sauces are all organic. No GMOs here and is a good thing. This place is a little expensive because of that fact, but I'm ok with paying more for quality ingredients. The vegan burger was super good and the Tofoturkey was also quite good.
