One of the BEST places I've been to in a while! Food, service, music, drinks, and atmosphere all hit the Five-Star mark for me! Located a few miles from the Golden 1 Events Center, Lowbrau is a trendy spot with great beers, tasty cocktails, and amazing food! Outside seating is available during the warmer seasons, and the inside seating offers both bar and regular tabletops. The entire staff were all incredibly friendly, and our bartenders made the experience top notch! Despite the busy Saturday night rush, they continuously checked in on us, and were very knowledgeable on the menus! Even gave us excellent recommendations based on our questions. The food and cocktails are absolutely amazing! We had the Brock's Board, which featured a pleasant charcuterie and cheese mix made from the shop right next door! The pairings of cheese, cured meats, and accompanying spreads made my night! The cheeses were sweet and flavorful, and the meats had the best texture and were made with high quality cuts. Recently, I went out with a few friends to LowBrau for drinks on a Friday night to unwind after a long busy week. Like most bars on a weekend, LowBrau was packed with dozens of people waiting to order drinks with three bartenders working as fast as they could. After ordering my drinks, I signed the receipt and left a $2.00 tip (on the receipt) and walked away from the bar to enjoy the rest of my night. Two days later Capital One sent me an email (see attached image) that my card was being charged a 95% tip, which obviously triggered a fraud alert. Think about it. Who would leave a $22 tip for two drinks? I didn't. Frustrated and angered by the overcharge, I immediately drove to LowBrau to speak with someone about the charge and to have it resolved. I was able to speak to a young woman who worked there and explained the issue and left my contact information. I never heard back from LowBrau. Don't let LowBrau cheat you out of your money. Used to really enjoy coming here. Still like the outdoor patio and beer selection, but overall experience is not what it once was. Ordered a pretzel and it wasn't as good as I remembered them; a little dry this time. Beer was as expected, and decent selection. Service was nice, but... What was really irritating is that they automatically charge gratuity on every order. If you're not paying attention like me, because I was trying to hurry and get out of the way for others ordering, you will make the mistake of paying extra gratuity on top. I didn't realize until after I sat down and was wondering why it was so much for two items. And then I saw they had one sign, only visible in one side of the bar that said auto gratuity added to every bill. And the receipt stated "additional tip", but it's easy to overlook and the bar staff don't tell you when they bring your order that it's already added on there. I don't mind paying extra tip if the service is really good, but I expect that to be by my choice. It felt really sneaky that they do this and their staff don't tell you and they don't have more signage. I watched their staff do this on other patrons too, so it wasn't just that they missed telling me. Walking in I thought it was definitely that hipster place that was talked about. The wood tables and lots of room was nice. The gal at the door was very friendly. The menu was very misleading. The waitress said the Best of the Wurst I ordered came with 2 toppings and on the pretzel roll. AQ = 15.00 for that sausage. It was ok but not 15.00 ok. The duck fat fries were ok. I've definitely had better. Then I love Mac and cheese and I thought what the heck. 8.00 for Mac and Cheese? This better be good. Well... nope it was not even ok. To end this up I'm gonna go with the best thing was the Arnold Palmer. Usually there is a 2 try to new places well after 29 dollars for a fancy hotdog, duck fat fries and no good Mac and cheese. Tips are automatically added to every check without your consent. Most people do not realize the added gratuity because they are not given a paper receipt with their drink purchase. The servers do not tell you about the forced gratuity before they ask you for another tip on their payment machine; this is incredibly dishonest and I do not trust anyone that works here. I guess I don't get what all the hype is about. My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night for a drink and to check this place out. We ordered our beers as we sat on the patio, and a pretzel to help soak up some of the alcohol we had been consuming. Our waitress was friendly enough. My biggest qualms were the fact that we were surrounded by smokers (I get it, we're outside on the patio but we weren't allowed to sit inside, they only offered us patio) and there were no heat lamps. The beer cheese that came with the pretzel was a little weird as well. It looked like they were preparing the inside to turn into a nightclub or some sort of dance floor, because a DJ was setting up and they were moving all of the tables. Had some friends in town and we were looking for somewhere to grab some brunch. Saw the reviews/ photos, noticed some of them mentioned food items being burnt but decided to give the place a try anyway. It wasn't packed when we arrived so we placed our drink and food orders in. We witnessed multiple times where guest who came after us were served their drinks. Our drinks arrived and we spent the next forty five minutes waiting for the food. When the food came out most of the brats & buns were burnt, as other yelp reviewers mentioned. I still enjoyed the non burnt bratwurst areas though, the cheese sauce was excellent for dipping and I highly recommend it. I would also suggest not adding the fries to your bratwurst as they give you a small portion for like 3 dollars but for 5 dollars if you ordered a appetizer fry it's four times the size aka the average size when serving a side of fries. Last and most important thing that really sucked was they forgot to input one of my friends selection and he had to wait as we all ate our meals. His meal was finished about 20 minutes after we received ours, however they forgot his addition of two eggs. We asked another waitress for help passing by but she said she wasn't our waitress, in which we then had to wait ten minutes before our waitress showed up. She went to place the order for the eggs but at that point he was already almost done with his meal. One of my favorite bars in midtown Sacramento ! There's seating indoors and outdoors. Both seating areas are wooden picnic tables. The ambience is very rustic and hipsterish. During the day you can come in and enjoy food and drinks. It is not as busy during the day. Their specialty as far as food has to be the sausages (yum). Friday and Saturday night is the busiest. Theres ID check in before you get in. The line to get in can be anywhere from 10-15 minutes depending on how many people are inside. Lowbrau does offer their own cocktail menu, however I am a huge fan of their mojitos as they are made to perfection. Music is played on speakers indoors on Friday and Saturday nights. The crowd is younger, lots of college students and individuals in there 20s. This place is fun as you can strike a conversation to the people sitting next to you. The thing that I can't stand about Lowbrau is how douchy their bouncers are. Lowbrau's bouncers have a totally gestapo attitude where they treat their customers with the lowest level of respect. They are arrogant and they think they have the best nightclub in Sacramento...but really, they're just taking advantage of the fact that their location is so prime. But on that note, there are many other night clubs right close by with much friendly non-agressive staff, with a more chill vibe, and way more fun. Lowbrau has HUGE waiting lines to get in, and when you finally make it to the main douchy staff member at the entry who checks ids, they glare at you and stare you down, are super bossy, have a militant-like mentality, are extremely rude, won't let you in half the time for stupid reasons, and they have ridiculous cover charges. But the main reason I haven't been back in months is because of an event that happened about 9 months ago. On that night, one of their bouncers initiated a fight and flat out assaulted a guy (on the street) in front of everyone. For whatever reason, there were no cops in the area that night, otherwise I'm sure all of the bouncers would be arrested for assault. The bouncer punched the guy in the face for seemingly no reason at all, and then proceeded to beat the living crap out of him...then all of his other douchy bouncer buddies joined in and smashed all of the poor guy's friends faces in as well...in addition to that, they hit a girl, and when her brother tried to protect his sister, they smashed his face in too. On that particular night, the bouncers without a doubt were guilty of flat out assault, and all of Lowbrau's bouncers should have been arrested, the place shut down, and Lowbrau should have been / maybe did get sued. But they should all been slapped with felony assault...all of this happened on the street, the bouncers initiated the fight, and used WAY excessive force. At a night club, security's role should be to maintain the piece...not to cause fights and hospitalize innocent patrons who are just out to have fun on a Friday night with friends. I used to like Lowbrau but now I'm afraid to go there, and not because of the people, but because of the bouncers. Lowbrau is totally bad vibes. I will not be going back ever again, and I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

My husband would probably give five stars as he is a fan of brats and beer. I like the location and vibe of this place. Lots of outdoor seating and a great place to people watch. Mimosas are served in a pint glass with just a hint of orange juice so it's well worth it. This is definitely a fun place in the neighborhood and the crowd is young and hip to middle aged folks. I've been coming to Low Brau for years, and I love the patio, the atmosphere and always (but especially now) the staff. Today, I came here to drink a beer, eat hummus and sit on the patio reading my book. I was quickly approached by an intoxicated man who kept trying to carry on a conversation with me after I politely let him I know I wanted to read my book in peace. One of the hosts/servers named Jess came over and slipped me a note (pictured below) that said I should let her know if he was bothering me. That was so appreciated. He ended up walking away and I read my book in peace for some time, but then he sat down next to me again. Before he could even let a word out, a male bartender tapped him on the shoulder and asked him to leave. I am so impressed with how quickly, discreetly, and professionally this situation was handled. The only thing "low brow" about this place are the haters. My friend and I were in the neighborhood and decided to stop in for a beer. The place is spacious-- to the left there are communal tables, straight ahead is the bar, and to your right is a DJ booth with plenty of floor space for dancing. The outside patio has seats that overlook the street. What was a chill relaxed outing quickly changed when we saw gates set up, security guards rallying, and a crowd of young adults in their short shorts and tie dye tops fist pumping. The streets filled with a swarm of people for an outdoor festival with live music and all good vibes. We really enjoyed the service and atmosphere this place offered. I've been in here a handful of times over the years since this place opened, and I still just don't get it. It's really LOUD IN HERE and it makes me anxious. WHAT? WHAT did you say? I said it's LOUD! WHAT? There's a crowd? Yes there's a crowd, but it's also too effing loud! There are plenty of other places to sit and have some yummy food and brew in Sacto. The Midtown Biergarten even has a German feel, without all the gosh dang darn dagnab NOISE. Sure, other places may not have the selection of snooty foofoo rare beers, or the delicious array of sausages that can be found here. There are pluses to LowBrau, hence the 3 stars. It's just not my first choice. I usually hit it up with friends or because I want a thick sausage. Or both. Not only is it noisy but it's often crowded, cramped, and the atmosphere is not friendly. The people who work here are decent enough usually, but something about the crowd that gathers here is irritating. Sometimes I get ignored at the bar, no matter how low my top is. It feels more big city wannabe snobbish with a hint of judgment. You would think the rainbow crosswalks are enough of an indicator that YES this is the Lavender Heights district, and yes there are lgbt folks about. What a concept.
