Went back for another lunch and it didn't disappoint. Yes, this place can be confusing because there are no servers and you have to order at the bar. I've watched many people seat themselves at tables and leave 10 minutes later because no one asked them what they wanted. Yes, the decor is stuck in the 90's, but I actually like it. The double smash burger I had was excellent. The bun they use is awesome and they charred the patty perfectly. It tasted way better than Fleming's Prime Steakhouse burger I had last week, that's for sure. The thick steak-cut fries are awesome, too. Over salted but nothing a cold beer can't cut through. I dropped by with a specific mission - to check out the Smashburger (as part of a burger competition I'm participating in). If it wasn't for this "mission," there's a good chance I wouldn't have wandered in. I LOVE Sutter Street, but honestly I don't live nearby and don't have many reasons to come here. That said, I'm thankful for the mission and glad I dropped by. It's a super cute place and the bartender had a nice relaxed chill vibe to her. This is where I'd normally drop her name and give her kudos - but I didn't get her name. I thought her name would be on the receipt, but it wasn't! I assume her name isn't "Shift Night N" anyway, which would be weird - but that's what is listed for "server". Anyway... the burger... I liked it. I liked it a lot. I was not asked how I wanted it cooked (not expected or demanded by me) - but an observation that I toss in for comparison purposes. It was cooked to a solid medium, which is fine with me. Caramelized onions were standard - nice - but the tomato and lettuce were listed as 'optional' - and the bartender (Shift Night N) asked me if I wanted them. I opted in. The bun was above average - definitely a notch above the typical mass-produced buns often used elsewhere. I opted for sweet potato fries. They had good flavor. Personal preference-wise... I would have liked them to be cooked a smidge more. If/when I come back, I'll probably ask them to be crispy-er. Overall, thumbs up! The food was as expected. We had burgers and fries, and they were pub food. My husband ordered a drink, and I asked for water. He handed me a glass with no ice, and said I could get it from a bucket set up on a ledge by the door with no lid covering the top. The ambiance was okay. The booths were nicely secluded with high separations between each one. The service left a lot to be desired. We had never been here, so we didn't know the drill. The man behind the bar asked us what we wanted to eat, with no greeting. There was a sign saying to order at the bar, but the bartender/order-taker didn't even smile or say hello. I forgot to unlock my credit card, so it didn't go through, and the bartender was annoyed. We paid a different way. He still hadn't smiled, he didn't say thank you, nothing. The Fat Rabbit is an is a cool British type pub located in the old Folsom district. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, traditional pub beer, and some great stables. One of those staples is Weiner Schnitzel, which is a favorite of mine. I went in on a Tuesday and found out they only serve it on Fridays so I thought I would try the fish and chips. The fish and chips were pretty good. You'll get a healthy portion of fish as well as potato wedges and some of the traditional fixings - vinegar etc if you choose to use them. I stopped by for lunch this past Sunday, and it was a casual pub atmosphere with a bar at the center and plenty of seating in all directions, for dining in. The booth tables are very private as the wooden dividers are tall. I would call them seat backrests but they're not padded, so I don't think you'd wanna rest your back on these. There's a bit of animal decor and artwork on the walls but nothing noteworthy in the restaurant. Even the bunny sculptures I saw were minimal (and not fat at all). Guests grab a menu at arrival and seat themselves wherever they like, then walk up to the bar to place orders, and take a number so the staff can bring out the order to your table when ready. I got the fish n chips, and it was served to my table with great presentation. One piece was more than enough. The fish had a golden crisp exterior but was a bit soggy beneath the batter. What a fun new bar we discovered! Bradd, our bartender, was exceptional and attentive. He was very mindful of my dietary considerations and made sure that my salad was vegetarian. He made some excellent suggestions, so we got to try our fun new foods as a result! What we recommend; -House salad was simple but very refreshing -Burger was excellent, down to the last bite -We tried the popcorn soup and it was surprisingly spicy. -Don't skip out on dessert here! The fish and chips... the fish was thickly battered (which we were not a fan of the thickness) there was a good tasting tarter sauce for it & the chips were thick steak fries, those tasted good. Then we had the scotch egg, it was overcooked, it should be soft boiled eggs not way over hard boiled and the outside was slightly burnt but should be a golden brown. The flavors were good in it. Lastly we ordered the clam chowder which was VERY thin based. It seemed more of a broth than chowder. Again, the flavor was good but it was just meh. When my basket hit the table it looked great, and was piping hot, fresh from the fryer. My hopes were dashed, however as I tucked in to find thick, mushy batter and a dull, lackluster flavor. Since I live in Folsom The Fat Rabbit is my go to spot for a decent pint of Guinness. They serve their Guinness in a 20oz glass which in my opinion is the only way to serve a proper Guinness. Laid back atmosphere with a friendly staff and a good selection of British pub food. read more

The place was clean and comfortable. I ordered the pierogies and a pretzel and my husband ordered the fish tacos. The pierogies were really good. Mild in flavor, but super smooth potato filling and topped with carmelized onions. The pretzel was also good. When we walked in we were hit with a distinct odor which did not agree with me. The best way I could describe it was stall air mixed with moisture. I did notice a couple walk in and both said it smelled and they quickly turned and left. The bar drink menu was sticky and gross and so was the edge of the bar. No one greeted customers as they arrived As a new patron to the bar there was no explanation anywhere that they had no wait staff and all food orders were to be placed at the bar. Seating is first come, first served. This place is in need of a deep cleaning and proper ventilation needs to be installed. Very good pub! My fiance and I came here for st paddy's yesterday and enjoyed every bit of it!It was very crowded but was to be expected for the holiday. We still somehow managed to find seating. A German style pub with great food! There are tables inside and out and bar seating. When you walk in, there are menus and a sign letting you know to seat yourself and order at the bar. We tried the Poutine, the Scotch Eggs, soup (tomato) and salad and a Bloody Mary. Everything was extremely good! I thought the poutine was a too salty, but we ate every last bite still. I have had poutine before in upstate NY and in Canada where it's on almost every menu. I always wondered why it wasn't seen much here. The service was friendly. Hubby and I came here for a date night since we love pubs and pub food. The Fat Rabbit did not disappoint. Typical for pub fare you order at the bar and then find your seat. There is plenty of seating available either at the bar, tables or booths. I had their Pink Lady Cider which was lovely. Hubby tried their Orange Wheat which he said was very good. We hated our meals of traditional bangers and mash and brie and tomato salad. We both left very satisfied. Although I have to admit I was a bit sad that they did not have ANY desserts available, even though they were tormenting us from the menu. Hopefully their bread pudding will be back soon.
