I pass by this often while in downtown and today decided to stop by and give it a try. First. the bartender/server were super nice and friendly. A+ to them. However, the food was not good. the Pretzel - it was pretzel. Nothing to complain about it. THe cheese however had a weird plastic feel to it. The Irish Tots - This is a hard pass. Tots, cheese, drizzle, corned beef, like I love all those things. The tots were delicious on their own, that drizzle was too little it added nothing. Despite just barely getting it served to me less than 5 minutes, the cheese was already all dry and tough. How is that a thing? It should be warm and melty. The corned beef was dry and flavorless. A recent Friday lunch at Sean Finnegan's was definitely disappointing, for our particular group of ambulatory, fun-loving seniors. Some of us attendees had Irish heritage, had favorite Irish bar/restaurants in other places and had been to a number of Irish pubs on a recent trip to Ireland. Half of our party were looking forward to a good Irish Shepherd's Pie. No Shepherd's Pie available. For that matter, no Fish and Chips or Corned Beef and cabbage (potatoes/carrots) -- even for dinner. No traditional Irish meals -- Just snacks and sandwiches on small buns - same menu for later. None of us finished our snacks or sub-par sandwiches...not because we were full but because they were not tasty. My deli corned beef sandwich (not real sliced corned beef) had 1 leaf of iceberg lettuce on it...no cabbage. The tables and chairs were all tall bar tables/stools, except one small standard-height table. It appeared to be an evening place for younger people who would not mind sitting on a tall stool or standing all evening. No table service, no Irish music in background (just on the juke box), no other people except employees. The Irish coffee was good and strong but so tiny we had to buy two (at $20 for two). Sean Finnegans was a decent little bar/pub. It holds true to your bar setting and if your bar hopping it's a good stop to keep the drinks going. Service was decent, they were not too busy but after we got our first round it took a min to get them back. I got some tots too and those came out and were pretty good. The one thing that really swayed me was the restroom... idk if they share it with surrounding businesses but man it just smaller horrible like something just went all over the walls. The toilet paper was all over the place , trash overflowing.. it just made me want to head to another bar to be honest. Stopped in at Finnegan's Pub during a visit to Old Town, and unfortunately it just wasn't great. The ambiance felt dull, and the music didn't match the vibe of an Irish pub at all. My husband ordered our drinks, and the bartenders weren't very friendly. After making one of the drinks, they mentioned they were out of orgeat for the other--but didn't offer any alternatives or suggestions. Both drinks were disappointing, the espresso martini was not good at all and the one missing orgeat was practically undrinkable. We also ordered the cheese curds, which were pretty good, but the portion was quite small for the price. I gotta say the ambiance itself was a bit weird, totally odd music playing for a bar in general, Barbie girl... for real. Maybe put some limits or rules on that jukebox. But also the service, was very much not friendly at all, for whatever reason everyone working bar seemed upset even though it was fairly quiet and not very busy. The Espresso martini, not gonna lie, worst one I have ever had in my entire life, and the drink my wife got, can't recall the name, awful. Not only did hers not have all the ingredients, but it was just bad. The bartender didn't tell us till the drink was fully made that they were out of Orgeat for it, and pronounced it "Or-Ghee-At." First off a drink that relies on Orgeat is not going to come close without it, and secondly, a bartender should know how to at least pronounce the word of what's in the drinks. Visited July 16th..see receipt. I wanted to try their Irish coffee that many say is wonderful and it was! I wasn't able to visit this place last time so I made sure I went this time around. Ryan the bartender was friendly and courteous and made a great Irish coffee! The cream on top was just right! Of course I had to get a warm pretzel ( love big pretzels!). It came with 2 dipping sauces and it was warm and cooked just right! 5 stars on the taste! It's a friendly bar/pub with friendly patrons. Fun place to start your day! Fantastic Irish Coffee in the middle of Old Town Sacramento! I love the vibe and the simplicity as well as a nod to Irish and old school heritage. The interior feels all original, the customer service is fantastic and the nice Foam art with Finn's logo is absolutely perfect. It was wonderful being able to personally add ourselves to the Irish coffee counter as we were on our way out of the restaurant. Came into Finnegan's for a quick snack right at noon on a Saturday and enjoyed our short time there. We came in to grab a seat and knew that we had to order the up at the bar because of a little placard that is placed on every table. Placed an order for the garlic tots that came with a side of marinara and ranch and the salted soft pretzel with beer cheese. The pub wasn't too busy when we entered, and it took probably around 15 minutes for us to get our food. The pretzel was fresh from the oven and was super delicious. For only around $5.75 I definitely recommend. The garlic tots were delicious as well. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. There were only 2 staff members at the time, 1 at the bar and 1 serving the food. Service was great too. Would definitely recommend if you need a savory snack and drinks. read more

For starters, the hours are wrong on Yelp for Wednesday. I'm glad I decided to call and confirm because we would have missed this gem if I solely went by that. It states 7:30 PM, but they're open until 10 PM. My boyfriend and I were visiting Sacramento since he had a work conference. We're both members of the Orange County Law Enforcement Emerald Society (Southern California) so we like patronizing irish bars. This had been on my itinerary to check out after reading prior reviews and its short walk/location from our hotel. We met Michael who was truly a pleasure to be served by. He was very friendly, seemed interested in who we were and why we were visiting town, and just shared so much with us personally, about the bar, and the area as a whole. We really enjoyed our time getting to know him. We chose the Finnegan Favorite sandwich to split and it was phenomenal. The bun was perfect and the cream cheese added a great flavor enhancement to the meal. The side of seasoned fries were tasty as well and while they were out of regular ranch dressing, I was able to tolerate and enjoy their jalapeno ranch one. I scored with the POG Cider and then my love and I shared a fruity, slushie beverage after that. I did want a shirt and was bummed to learn they only had mediums left. I would have even purchased a hat but they lagged in merch. I definitely recommend more fun stuff on the lower walls and the architectural piece behind the wall. Either irish memorabilia or police, fire, first responder patches to start collecting as customers come in. I recommend overall and will likely return today for another cold one. read more

Frank was so kind (was in the wrong line) guy behind the bar informed me no Apple pay was allowed. After walking by this bar many times I stopped in for a drink. I was intrigued by its sign claiming to have the best Irish coffee in Sacramento. I used to drink Irish coffee at the Buena Vista Cafe when I lived in San Francisco. Maybe the Buena Vista set the bar too high because Finnegan's didn't stack up. The coffee wasn't very strong and there wasn't much whiskey in it. Meh... if that's the best Sacramento has to offer, there must not be much competition. Weak Irish coffee aside, it's a cool bar, and the bartender was friendly. It's in a great location at the corner of a busy intersection.
