Revising this review to note that while they ultimately replaced our dryer, not delivering it during the delivery window and not calling to tell us there would be a reschedule until the night before, was very frustrating as we did not know if they would even come. I had to miss work for nothing. A simple call or email saying "Sorry we missed our delivery window and we will contact you on x-day to reschedule" would have resulted in a better review. Instead, they just called well into the evening when they didn't arrive, saying someone would call to reschedule, but never did. I haven't written a review since Covid, so here we go. When my water dispenser stopped working on my refrigerator I figured it was time to drop some money and buy a new one. Of course the one I liked was a special order so the waiting game was on. My fridge was initially supposed to be delivered on 07/07/20, yeah right! Of course they blamed the delay on the pandemic. New delivery date 07/25/20, good thing I have a Brita Water Filter pitcher or else.. Lol! Long story short. After the delivery folks confirmed I would be home on the 25th between 8am-noon, at 1230pm, still no delivery truck. Once I called, I was told my item never made it on the truck. Was I livid wasting my Saturday morning waiting on a refrigerator that never came, would be an understatement. After the run around, I finally got one of the managers on the phone, Matt. He seemed to understand my pain and suffering and he compensated me for my inconvenience by knocking $265 off my bill. That act alone brought my blood pressure back down to a manageable rate.. Lol! Although this location is unpredictable and often dysfunctional, it is my preferred Lowe's. They have what I need 90% of the time versus other locations, like Market Street in DC, which always looks like it got hit by a heist or organized crime ring. Service depends squarely on the staff working. I've received some of the best service of my life from Jamal and Kayla in the garden center. A short, petite older, very pleasant Black lady is always so nice & helpful in self-checkout. There is a Latin man who wears glasses--an assistant manager--who is so kind and always a great help. And of course the manager, Fatima, is a lovely lady and ensures you get what you need. The problem starts when Fatima leaves or walks away, and the aforementioned employees are not scheduled. I don't know what their training consists of, but many of them don't know what Lowe's sells and there's never much of an effort to understand what you are looking for. I've arrived for curbside pick-up, checked-in for delivery to my car due to a torn ligament, and nobody ever brought me the order. After an hour, I ended up walking to my car with the order. Mona, the cashier, seemed not to know anything, was not in a rush to help me, and just stood around chatting while my pickup order was lost in LaLaLand. I've requested assistance retrieving bagged soil from an unopened pallet on a second shelf, and watched the folks working the dolly truck just shrug after I ask if it's possible to help me, or if I should return. I've had employees straight up not know how to enter my phone number for military discount, then hand me some cash out the register to "make up for the discount"? (I gave it back, that will cause a short register.) I've waited 20 minutes to actually get a wheelbarrow that I bought. Nobody could find the key. Better training and better employees are necessary. I rarely shop at Lowes as Home Depot is closer to me + has a much better smartphone app but this time around I found some much needed storage totes on sale. I decided to order 4 for in-store pickup at the Gaithersburg location and paid using a gift card. A few hours later I received a call from Lowes and was told the items actually weren't available in store so my order had been canceled. Okay, cool. So the money would go back onto my gift card right? Wrong. When you pay with a gift card with Lowes and the order is canceled they MAIL you a new gift card. Fast forward five days and I receive my gift card and go back on Lowes site to see the same totes are now in stock at New Carrolton so gift card in hand I place my order. I wait a few hours and no cancellation email so I make the 20 minute drive. Once I arrived I noticed that the store is a complete mess from the parking lot to the customer service line. I end up getting in line for in-store pickup and when I reach the front I'm told the order hasn't been processed yet so I can wait around or just head to the aisle and grab the items myself. After wandering around aimlessly for ten minutes I discover there are no totes on the shelf where they should be. I head back to customer service and noticed 10+ of my item behind the representative. She tells me those are for other customers and have already been processed. At this point I'm losing my cool and ask her to cancel the order so I can just buy an alternate item (more expensive). At this point she tells me they will need to mail me ANOTHER gift card even though I'm standing right in front of her. I agreed and ended up walking out of the store. When the new gift card arrives I'll be handing it off to someone who's willing to deal with Lowes' nonsense. read more

This is the worst customer service and delivery experience that I have had in 20 years. I placed an online order for a washer/dryer laundry center for a rental property. I also ordered a power cord and requested haul away service. Fulfilment was through the New Carrollton, MD store. The laundry center was to be delivered on August 1st, 2020. My tenants waited the entire delivery period and no one showed up. I called the logistics delivery company toward the end of the delivery window and they said that the Lowe's store forgot to put the laundry center on the truck that morning. I then attempted to call the Lowe's store and re-schedule on August 1st and kept getting hung up on or left on hold. I called on August 2nd and was finally able to speak with someone to re-schedule for August 3rd. That person, however, re-scheduled the order in a completely incorrect way. The street address was input incorrectly. The power cord was not included on the delivery order. The haul away service was not included on the delivery order. When the delivery team arrived on August 3rd, they said that their paperwork was for a refrigerator delivery although they had a laundry center. They refused to haul away the existing laundry center because it wasn't on their delivery order and they did not have the power cord to connect the laundry center. I usually order from Home Depot but I chose Lowe's for the cheaper price but the $100 savings is not worth this headache. read more

When I went there on Aug 26th, I had absolutely the best hardware store customer service experience in my memory. First, I wanted a large shop fan to blow away the mosquitoes. The guy I waved down very helpfully and cheerfully brought over a cart for me, then showed me the fan section, then brought over a lift to bring it down from the top shelf, then when I decided it was too large (wouldn't fit in my car), cheerfully helped me load a somewhat smaller one. I also needed to rent a rug shampoo unit. The lady at the customer service counter very helpfully showed me what to do, asked me if I needed the accessories, walked over to the shampoo bottles when I told her they were sold out, showed me a different section where there was another brand I could buy, and then helped me check them out. And when I brought it back after 48 hours rather than 24 hours, didn't give me grief. And when I realized I had forgotten the accessories, let me check them out so I didn't ring up a higher rental cost before heading home to bring back the accessories. I imagine I was a bit of a pain for both, but they were unfailingly helpful and positive. Wonderful service! Definitely coming back rather than deal with the Horrible Competition again! read more

The worst!!! We ordered our grill and we were so excited because it was coming already assembled. Delivery went well. But the following day when we went to use it we found that the grill was put together completely wrong. The drip pan was on the wrong side, the utensil rack was on the back instead of the front, and the shelves were put in backwards. What? For all that I could've put it together myself. So I call customer service and the most they could do was tell me they would make sure to do it right next time. Wait, how does that benefit me now? There I was in the middle of doing laundry when I realized the dryer wasn't working. A technician came, fixed the dryer, and noted that I needed a new dryer hose. Knowing nothing about appliance parts he pointed me to Lowe's. I ordered the part online and selected curbside pick up (great feature during this time!). And man- it worked like a charm. I got an email confirmation for my order and another email telling me the part was ready for pick. I go and easily find the curbside pick up area. I park, called the number on the sign, gave them my order number and parking space number, and before I knew it a representative approached the car with a mask on and offered to put my item in the truck to ensure distancing. Ordered new appliances from Lowe's. The order itself took nearly 2 hours in person for the associate to ring up, first with their overpriced install fees ($800 for 4 items), then again without. Some items we're backordered due to the pandemic, totally fine, scheduled for delivery a month out and asked them to confirm beforehand. Hear nothing from them until the day before, I am notified only 3 are in, and by the shipping company, not Lowe's. Call them to postpone, call Lowe's to find out when the final item is in. Reschedule for another 2 weeks out, ask them to confirm beforehand it has arrived. No call. I call them to confirm, they say they'll look and get back to me. No response. Reschedule again. Day before, get confirmation of 3 items again. Call them, the associate says she is standing in front of all 4, marked for delivery tomorrow. Truck shows up, with only 3. Call Lowe's, they say a manager will call me back. Never heard from anyone. Get an automated message that the final item is to be delivered the next day. Call them back, and they say it didn't reach the store until after the truck left. Now I have to pay my contractor again to come out to hook up the dishwasher, and Lowe's still won't speak to me. Long story short. Unreliable delivery, mixed and conflicting messages, impossible to get anyone on the phone (50% of my calls just disconnected), and long delays. Went out of my way to support them instead of Home Depot a quarter mile down the road. Will not be purchasing anything from them again. read more

Another terrible experience with this store's customer service. Went to return a Kobalt-brank 80V battery that is still within its 3 year warranty period. Warranty clearly states to "simply return battery and proof of purchase to the store where purchased for credit or replacement." Nothing is simple with this store. Store wouldn't credit my account or replace battery, instead referring me to some warranty company. The appliance sales person was friendly and demonstrated a knowledge of the department procedures. At this Lowes in New Carrollton he actually went into the stockroom to be sure the refrigerator we wanted was in the store and could be delivered on the day requested. I have purchased from Lowes for more than 10 years and this transaction from beginning to end helps turn my customer service experience to a positive light after the California MD store destroyed my over 10 year positive rating I had with them--it only takes once for a sales person to promise something that they don't have a clue as to when the store will have that product and then have you waiting. I was buying a refrigerator in that area for my grandson and gave him the receipt and I regret I cannot remember the sales person's name. I have tried to call this store for 6 hours and am unable to reach a human. I was told yesterday that part of my delivery wasn't available and they would refund that part for me. It still hasn't been done. I was told that my delivery would be today and that last night someone would call and give me a more accurate window for delivery. No one called. This review comes on the heels of a terrible experience with the mill work department. We wanted to purchase a new, Mid-century modern door for our home. We paid for the measurements and then after playing phone tag for weeks, we realized that we were unable to make forward progress. Calling never helped because there was never anyone available in the mill work department. And the people there were grumpy at best. You can tell they are woefully understaffed in that area. I was so disappointed. After having many successful shopping trips- so much that I avoid Home Depot all together at this point, to have this experience with the mill work folks really burst my bubble. Too bad. My advice would be to shop and buy whats on site. Don't order anything, and especially don't try to special order anything. This is a "get what you see" kind of place. This is the reason I originally push we always go to Lowe's. They have a more eclectic selection of Items, and the staff at the ones in the south were phenomenal. Maybe they just hire the wrong people, as when I tried to get help, I was told " be right with you" yet that meant wrapping up a long conversation with another employee.
