I don't spend much time in the Denver area, I usually hang around Louisville or Boulder but my parents and I were in the area after a liquor tasting and we needed sustenance to slow my buzz for the rest of the night. My dad mentioned hot dogs and I was IN. He knows the Lowry Base well as a former Air Force pilot and frequenter of Wings over the Rockies Museum. I would've gotten a beer because they have such a great craft selection but my aforementioned buzz was more than enough for me to handle. I was all about the hotdogs. They have several different types of dogs and you can pick a style to get your toppings, I imagine their burgers are the same way. I chose an elk jalepeno cheddar dog Coloradan style. Because why not? I've never had elk before but it was so good! Not sure if it was the drunkchies talking but I've never had such a good hotdog before in my life. Pretty good overall. Their food is good but nothing perfect. It has great food for children and picky eaters and this is a great place to meet some friends and have a drink. There is room for children to run around and dogs are welcome on the patio. It is an enjoyable neighborhood place to go with friends and family. I live across the street so it's nice to have a place that is super delicious AND close. Props to the owner/management. Their team is a well oiled machine. I just went in to get some food to go and it was totally full (fundraiser event) with a super long line for ordering food. They were handing menus out to people waiting. I waited for about 15 mins, not bad. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. I ordered and waited less than 10 minutes for my food which is awesome for this pregnant lady. food was piping hot and delicious as always. They're awesome. Thank you! read more

Decided to try this place after going to the museum. We needed something to snack on and wanted to try a couple of local beers. The staff was very helpful with the beer selection and hit the nail on the head with the suggestions for our taste. We ordered chips and queso and some cheese curds fully expecting the portions to be small (as they usually are at these types of places). I'm really glad that I came here, I pass it all the time, it is right next to the airplane museum so I never thought or noticed anything being next to the giant airplane outside. Totally fun hangout in a cool neighborhood! Sadly, we discovered it a few days before we moved from Denver. We ordered from an extensive menu, salads, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, and more, then picked up some beers. There is a great selection of local brews. I opted for a strawberry-rhubarb beer that was unlike anything I'd ever tasted, in a good way. I had to have two! I ordered a summer strawberry salad with chicken. The chicken was cooked nicely. The greens were fresh, the strawberries succulent. The salad was "dressed" well in a vinaigrette that complemented the fresh produce. We sat outside, and even though the air had a chill as the sun dipped below the horizon, I found a table next to a heat lamp and fared just fine. Cool place , right next to the wings over the Rockies Museum. If you want a relaxing afternoon and you have the time ; go visit the museum, walk around , be inspired , and work up an appetite then go have a beer and a sammy ( sandwich) at the beer garden. It's mostly open air, with a smaller covered area but still large enough for a big group . I've been here for big parties and small ones , Military going away parties and work related etc... it's an open and welcoming place. The beer selection is fantastic , large - wide array of good local and well known beers. The bar staff really know what they are doing and the kitchen staff have got it going on :) Its in a unique location , on the old converted Lowry Air Force base neighbourhood. It's a neat place to drive around with many amenities close by and it's easy to get to . Ample Parking , which is a plus . One of my favourites . Our first visit, but not our last. Yum! The cobb salad was delectable with the perfect ratio of toppings to lettuce. The bacon was sweet and the ranch was incredible. My daughter ordered the pulled pork and my hubby had a philly cheese steak. We ate every delicious bite! A titos martini and coconut IPA made it even better! I really enjoyed this place, the vibe was nice and the food was pretty good. I ordered a burger which was cooked nicely and ordered the sauerkraut polish sausage. Both were delicious and it didn't take long for them to fill the order. I'd probably order the polish dog since it came its all the yummy fixin's that I like. They also have a large outdoor patio area that's nice if the weather is good. The outdoor patios also have fire places and heating. Not sure how it will go when it starts getting really cold but I would go here again for some good food and beer. read more

Really like this place for a relaxed evening! We've been a few times now and I have been impressed with both the food and the beverages. Food at a bar/drink spot can be under whelming, but they have some great, tasty choices at good prices. It's the perfect spot to meet up and enjoy nice weather! Pains me to write this review. I am a regular - 3-4 times a month visitor - and was looking to take my family their for my sons birthday (he loves the giant pretzel). Upon entering, the guy taking names said he has a 4 seat but no 6. There was a gentleman having a beer and no food at an 8 person table and I asked the worker to ask the gentleman to move. He said he would not. I said he would be losing out on a few hundred bucks versus a couple pints and was pretty put off with that. Needless to say this is not a good look for a spot I frequent more than maybe I should. Looks like the Stanley Beer Hall will be getting more business in the future. read more

Thank you for having the Wits Shakesbeer company act at your venue- I came specifically to watch them play, but also fell in love with the venue! I especially appreciated the owner being so respectful of the show and asking some ladies who were chatty to move elsewhere. It really made the show so much better. The outdoor space was very comfortable, with covered picnic tables and heat lamps (although they weren't needed today). Loved the selection of local beers (my favorite was the tivoli Hefeweizen recommended by a great bartender!) and the food was so good! I had the sweet potato fries and the pretzel- both were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The cheese for the pretzel was pretty standard, and the honey mustard was light on the honey, heavy on the Dijon- unusual but not what I preferred. My friend had the pork nachos- apparently the pork is smoked in house. Those were the best and I highly recommend them. Overall, if you get a chance to see the Wit Shakespeare Company do a show go see it, and if you get a chance to see it at Lowry, enjoy the food and beer! read more

The roll was outstanding. The only reason the food gets that high of a review is because you can tell that the thought, and effort put into the cheese steak was admirable. They tried. If you are going to put chunks of meat in a sandwich it needs to be the proper cuts, and cooked properly. Not steamed, as it appeared to be. Watery cheese sauce, and almost cooked onions. Just because it's an east coast street staple for folks doesn't mean you should go into it with no research. I hope I'm missing something about the offering, but I'm spoiled, and feel kind of robbed. More like the Lowry Kindergarten... My husband, sister and I went to the Lowry Beer Garden at about 6pm on a Thursday evening after work, looking forward to enjoying some good beer in a nice, relaxing outdoor setting. However, it was clear as soon as we got there that we should have waited to arrive until past bed-time - there were children running around everywhere. I understand that Lowry is a neighborhood of young families, but sharing a picnic table with children whose mother warned me to move my purse or it would get spilled on, was not what I anticipated at a beer garden. I like kids - and I'm sure their parents like to drink beer, but this is not Chuck-E-Cheese. If we go back, we will definitely be doing so after 8pm. Would advise other adults without children to do the same. That said, the beer selection was good and we shared a giant pretzel with a spicy cheese sauce that was delicious! read more

I heard through the grapevine about the recent opening of this place so I went to check it out. I only had about an hour to kill so I kind of hurried my way through the experience. The name doesn't disappoint, as it is a good CO take on the German beer garden, with full picnic-style outdoor seating and covered areas for rainy days. The additional touches of ping pong tables and tvs are nice as well. While the beer selection stays true to the local CO varieties, I still expected a bit more selection. Don't get me wrong, there are great local micro-brews on draft and bottled, but I expected a bit more national microbrew selection as well. I didn't have a chance to eat any of the food, but what I saw coming from the kitchen does make me want to go back. The selection seemed nice and the food looked like upper-scale versions of backyard BBQ food. Lastly, as I only expected beer, I was pleasantly surprised to find they offer a full bar selection as well. read more

It's going to sound funny, but the Lowry Beer Garden is a really family-friendly place. From all the open air to the picnic tables, the kids menu to the play area, and even the games to keep young and adult alike entertained there are a lot of reasons to like this beer garden as a family destination. Nick and I have been here a couple of times with Little Man N (who is just over 1 at the time of this review) and enjoyed it each time, whether we were alone or with 6 other friends. The beer selection is good, but they also have a nice wine and liquor spread if you don't want to go for the beer. The food is pretty good, too. I usually find myself ordering fried pickles because, well, FRIED PICKLES, but after that I've tried everything from wings to burgers to salads and been happy with them all. The kids menu is pretty standard fare, but you can get sweet potato fries instead of regular if you want, a choice that Ephraim always seems to enjoy. The set-up is more cafeteria style where you go to the counters and order what you want, they give you a buzzer, and when your food is ready the buzzer goes off so you can go pick it up from the counter. I have seen servers there during super busy time (like the first Broncos game of the season) and even bussers at that time, too, but generally if you go during quite times it's self-serve at the counters. All in all it's becoming a place that we think of fairly regularly when we want to have an afternoon snack and happy hour beer or when we have a large group that needs a spot to gather. Boy, do I hate to do this, but I must. I love love love the concept here: a German-style beer garden, boasting many local brews on tap, tucked away in family friendly Lowry. What's not to love? Right? Right!? Sadly, there were no stars in my eyes for Lowry Beer Garden. Without the outdoor patio being conducive during the colder months (although I saw heat lamps posted around, they weren't being utilized yet; will they be? this may solve my problem with LBG), everyone was crammed inside the enclosed area of the garden. It was loud and crowded. And way too many children running around like it was a play ground. Okay, I get families want to come out and enjoy the evening with their kids. But please keep them under control! I was sitting outside waiting for friends while the small children were running ON the table that I was sitting at. I got up and waited outside of the outdoor space because I didn't want to my epitaph to read "trampled by small children while waiting for a beer." So November's atmosphere doesn't work for me. At all. But Lowry Beer Garden is certainly offering some amazing brews on tap. I tried Prost's Dunkel since I haven't been to the brewery yet, and loved it! Awesome beer! But I couldn't quite enjoy myself fully because of the overly noisy, claustrophobic-inducing space and seating arrangement, chalk full of small children. These are things that I do not enjoy about going out and seek to avoid them. This isn't any knock against Lowry Beer Garden itself, just that the atmosphere here isn't what I'd care to return to. I wouldn't *not* return if a friend suggested meeting here, but it's not somewhere high up on my list. But I may come back next spring/summer to check out the patio and see if that makes the atmosphere more palatable for me... read more

I've made some changes to this review after Joe emailed me to tell me that people we know mutually are calling me a jerk for writing it. I'll just keep it to the point without any embellishment, and for the record, the least of my worries is if people think I'm a jerk or not. The articles on this bar from Westword and Denver Post were very unclear at representing this SELF-SERVICE concept. I was expecting something different. Had I known this is NOT a full-service establishment, I probably wouldn't have bothered going in. As Joe told me, there are no wait-staff, only runners, so I guess I misunderstood how food and drinks are served here. If I want to wait in line for a beer or food, I'll happily go to a Rockies' game, or go to the liquor store and the grocery and wait in line to pay for my items. Having to pay each time an order is placed just doesn't make sense to me, I had to wait in line several times to buy rounds and I had to bring someone with me to get our limit so we could buy enough drinks for our group. I was not allowed to start a tab at the bar after asking the bar staff, not sure why Joe told me that was the case. So I left with six different receipts and transactions on my bank account for one visit to one bar. If the young man holding the order sign would have told me that they don't have waitresses instead of saying he would send one over right away, I would have been fine with that. He even said he would have menus sent over. They obviously never came. I did not get a chance to try to order food or see the menu other than online before going in, so I can't comment on the food quality. I just didn't feel like waiting in line again. This obviously just isn't the type of place for me. Joe said he did not ignore me, he just didn't see me walk by him on the way to the beer line, otherwise he would have bought me a beer. I appreciate that and give him the benefit of the doubt. I see people from my spin classes in the community and sometimes don't recognize them right away. Glad to have another restaurant/bar in Lowry, and you have a huge opportunity here. With that, we are not restaurant experts but we go to them a lot. Really, a lot. In packs. And spend hundreds of dollars. Love the concept of the beer garden, love the spot, nice design. So a few suggestions for success: 1. Your most likely customer in this neighborhood is 30/40 something parents of kids, the singles who live here are going downtown. Hence the bouncers (and the state fair wristbands) may be overkill. 2. Let us run a tab at the table. We are not 22 yr old dine/dashers. See #1. 3. Love the ping pong but we grew up in the competitive era of ping pong (the 80's) so we are going all out for the love of the shot. You may need to move the tables further from the old people eating so we don't kick dust all over them. See #1 4. More speakers in the courtyard. We are old and can't hear. Our first visit here taught me to eat at home beforehand. On my most recent visit, I took my own advice and it was A-OK. The concept is great and it fits in perfectly in the Lowry area. Is it my all time favorite place to drink? No, but there is ample seating and a pretty good craft beer list. Could be more robust/interesting, but hey, it's Lowry. This place is also very good for groups as people can come and go as they please. The menu is a mix of burger/pretzel/salad bar fare. I got a southwestern type salad on my first visit and it was pretty sad. Wilty lettuce and not very flavorful additions to help out the wilty lettuce. Dave got a pretzel on our second visit and it was really good. The accompanying SYSCOesque cheese (a very robust, neon orange color) could have been waaay better, but the pretzel stood well on its own. The service set-up is a bit odd. You can only order food at the counter, order drinks at the bar, or order drinks while seated (but not food). All in all, go for the beer, maybe grab a pretzel, but eat dinner at home. read more

I have enjoyed coming here somewhat frequently for the last year and a half. The food has always been good and the patio is perfect for nice days. The reason for my 3 star review today is because they are now enforcing an 18% tip on every order. This is not a sit down restaurant with a server. You wait in line place your order with a cashier then go find a table. They page you when your food is ready and you go pick it up at the window. You throw your trash away on the way out. If this is a tip-able establishment then so is Walmart. In fact Walmart cashiers do much more than the cashiers here so they would be more deserving in my eyes. The line has to be drawn somewhere and unfortunately this is it for me. I hope ownership realizes this will hurt their business and get rid of this policy before it's too late. read more

Food - excellent Un-controlled children - annoying. I came here with a groupon for lunch. The staff was very friendly - unfortunately for me i picked a day when they had Avery take over - meaning they were only pouring their beers... It would have been cooler to have options, but it was an interesting concept. I chose a burger that was amazing, so delicious. Everything costs - as in, fries are extra from the burger, etc etc... The location is a cute partial hanger, lots of communal tables - but very very close together. Note: order food on the left side, beer thru the right side! The other down side is the number of families that come, they even come without either parent having a beer. I guess it's great that the food is that great - but the name of the place is a "beer garden" not a garden for your kids to run a muck, not a place to bring your kids to play games and watch tv. I did like that there is a notice that it is "adult" only time after 9pm, so if i come back, it will be later in the evening! I'd give this a solid 3.5. I REALLY wish they would have a no-kids rule past a certain time. This is not a restaurant or a pub - this is a BEER GARDEN. We live within walking distance of this place, and when we come here at night we shouldn't have to listen to kids screaming and running around with no parents to be found. Despite all of that - this place is a cool neighborhood spot. They have really awesome burgers, fried pickles and pretzels. Their wraps and sandwiches are good, too. Beer selection is mediocre for craft beer, but they do occasionally get some amazing surprises in there! Staff is all very friendly, too.
