Bob had the Garden Bloody Mary, and Jeremiah went with a custom hot coffee cocktail crafted with help from our fantastic server, Megan. For brunch, the Cowboy Quiche had an incredibly flaky crust with potatoes and green chile (I added beef birria -- worth it). The chorizo breakfast tacos were also a hit. Holy cannoli, if you haven't been to this place you are missing out! Next level atmosphere that will make you feel fancy! As I recollect, this used to be a crepe place which I had utilized. They did a great job turning this into a quaint cocktail lounge on the busy street of Broadway. Despite its location however, the noise from the street is completely cancelled once inside (however, I'm not sure about the patio area. We went here on a very cold winter day so the patio, of course, wasn't open. When it's a lot warmer, I'd love to sit outside and experience the outdoor environment in there. It might as relaxing as the inside.) This experience of mine was about a month or so ago (so much belated.) I had a wonderful red wine (Sangiovese or something like that) along with a pork and potato appetizer dish. That app truly complemented the wine (or the wine complemented the dish; either way, it sure was a great pairing.) There is a little DJ room where they were playing the kind if music that resonates with the whole experience and atmosphere. The lady who assisted us was very welcoming and friendly. The service was top notch. This chic bar opened in the Platt Park area earlier in 2024 to offer a nightclub option in the area. It is also open for brunch on the weekends. Named after the owner's spirit animal, a painting of a bright yellow goldfinch holding a turquoise jeweled dream catcher atop a disco ball greets you as you walk in the door. There are hints of other southwestern decor in the many Zia symbols sprinkled throughout the open yet intimate space. There are many options for seating, and we were lucky to have the table with the plush lime green swivel chairs. A perfect spot for drinks and a conversation. We arrived for happy hour. This included Happy Wells for $7, Happy Cans for $5, Happy Wines for $8, and Special Spritzes that were off the menu. Most customers were ordering the spritzes so I went for that. Plus, our server, who was also a bartender, sold me on one he had created with falernum syrup that wasn't too sweet and went down a little too easy. My friend and I came here for happy hour and immediately felt like we picked the right spot for a relaxed, fun evening. Service is amazing and attentive. Our waiter was hilarious and was also very knowledgeable about drinks and food. Every Thursday, December through January is ladies' night where a local women owned business sets up a small display and you can shop to support her business- this is a fun concept! For Happy Hour, I selected the Goldfinch drink. While flavorful and a little spicy, it was delicious and well worth the cost- it was not on happy hour prices. I also tried their Happy Hour Korean pancake- that was tasty! To wrap up the meal, I selected the cowboy quiche- very, very tasty. My friend and I came here for brunch last week. We came right when it opened and had no trouble getting seated. I'm glad more places are starting to offer brunch because I really hate waiting. The ambience is definitely that of a cocktail lounge, but very comfortable. We started with bloody marys and asked for spicy. They didn't come out spicy (granted, we really like spice) but the mix is all very thin. I prefer a thicker bloody, so I wouldn't order this again. We opted for a bottle of bubbly rose next and that was delightful. For our entrees, I had the Shakshuka and my friend had the Breakfast Skillet. I loved how saucy mine was and the flavor was great- but it came out luke warm, so I would have preferred hotter. My friend said the Breakfast Skillet was very good. No one came for 10 minutes so as a gentle nudge, I went to the bar and asked, "Hey, can we get a couple of menus to make some decisions while we wait for the server?" I was informed that the menu is on a QR code UNDER the electric tealight. How is anyone supposed to know that?? But that's not the issue. A skinny server helping out other folks in a red tube top and black gloves made eye contact with me not once but TWICE and still ignored us. Now, my cynical companion was of the opinion that because we were in our "about to head to the airport in 5 hours" clothes, we didn't get served because we didn't look fancy enough. I, a hospitality professional, have a different take. More than half the tables were empty and everyone on the floor and behind the bar was running around like a chicken with their heads cut off. This is a result of only one thing: poor management. And as a bartender, I told the bartender there, "Hey man, you definitely did nothing wrong but bartender to bartender, we're walking out with nothing and that's money out of your wallet." He started to apologize and I was like, "dude, this isn't on you, you did nothing wrong! But if I were you, I'd be pissed because this is probably happening to other potential guests. That's money outta your wallet!" I'll try again, but probably not for a while. It sucks when you leave a place in the business of *hospitality* feeling shitty and not even getting to try the food and beverage. read more

Sat down at 12:15 didn't take our order until over and hour later and that was only because someone at our table went up and had to ask what was going on. Loved my visit to the Goldfinch a couple of weeks ago. First, the vibes are just immaculate. Its all leather, gold, velvet and class. The entryway is also super cute with a little wooden door. The mimosas were great and the juice options were delicious and exciting which added to the experience. With a difficult allergy, they were able to accommodate which is always appreciated and it enforces the "fresh" food feel. The medium: even though our server was very sweet, she had us go and grab her when we were ready for our brunch cocktails and was very slow. It is possible that The Goldfinch was wildly understaffed and that can be outside a businesses control. The negative: the food was watery and we all felt an uneasy stomach after we ate, the brunch menu was also quite limiting. Our first round of drinks of the house cocktails from the menu were awesome, but then they let us know they were out and we decided on new drinks. My boyfriend tried to order a Sazerac in which they said they didn't have the correct bitters: he said he'd be fine with different bitters and they made him a Fernet black Manhattan which is nothing like a Sazerac. The main issue was that I ordered an anejo old fashioned, and they didn't ask me what tequila. They proceeded to use Don Julio 1942 and charged me $40 which we didn't find out until we got the bill. Not sure how you correct these issues, but if we go back, we will be sure to double check what they are charging us for every drink before we order it. read more
