Wish more airports had a place like this. Having a spot BEFORE security, where you and your friends can share one last pint and a bite before parting ways, or something when first meeting up, is such a great touch for PDX to have. The menu is pretty standard elevated pub fair. This time around, I went with the Kasekrainer, a pork sausage with sauteed onions and stone ground mustard. Really delicious! And my friend loved his burger and salad. And the drink menu is really amazing, too, with over 60 beer taps, plus a full bar. Perfect thing to fuel up or unwind. And while the prices are, like all airport fare, a couple dollars higher than what you'd expect at restaurants outside the facility, I still think the portion size and quality are pretty decent for what you pay. The big draw here, however, are the views. You of course have a fantastic perspective on the tarmac between the main terminals, seeing the planes coming and going through the giant windows. But you also get some great balcony seats overlooking the entry hall, with its cool wood architecture and tons of trees. I've enjoyed just spending a little time over a glass here, doing some serious people watching. Service was very friendly. But it can get a little backed up, even with only moderate crowds. And beyond that, this is a place to cater to people passing through the airport. So anyone who is not catching a flight or just landed is going to have to pay airport parking fees, or take the train, to come here. All told, a nice quick lunch at a gorgeous spot. Kids friendly. Great group gathering spot pre-TSA screening. 99 beers on tap all reasonably priced, with food to boot. Lots of TVs playing sports and service is friendly. Great spot to enjoy an adult beverage cocktails or beer, watch the airport operate, and talk with friends. I'm in and out of PDX every couple weeks for work, always walking past this place like "yeah, maybe next time." Well, today was that next time, and I'll tell you right now, I should've marched my ass in here a long time ago. Place is barely even breathing at 20 percent capacity, which means you've got room to stretch out like a king who just conquered Concourse C. Booths for days, tables for miles, and enough seating options to make you forget you're technically still in an airport. But let's talk about the real showstopper. I'm posted up in a chair that feels like it's three or four stories high, staring out these massive floor-to-ceiling windows that don't even feel real. Planes moving, rain sliding down the glass, runways stretching out like some kind of living painting. It doesn't feel like you're looking through a window... it feels like the outside just decided to come sit with you. There's something about being up that high, looking down, sipping a drink, that makes you feel like you've got life just a little more figured out than you probably do. Now, if you like beer, buckle up. Their selection runs an entire wall, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it looks like they've got everything short of something brewed on Mars. Twenty, fifty, who knows... it's a lineup. And if beer's not your game, the bar behind it looks ready to handle just about any bad decision you're willing to make before boarding. Food? That seasoned salad hit like it had something to prove. Fresh, balanced, and honestly better than it had any right to be inside an airport. They've got enough variety here that nobody's gonna be stuck eating sad travel food wondering where it all went wrong. And here's the sneaky part... this place feels like a hidden gem. TVs tucked everywhere without being obnoxious, a wide open layout that somehow still feels intentional, and a vibe that just quietly commands respect. First off--Loyal Legion is a gem! They've got a phenomenal selection of beers (seriously, something for every taste), and while I haven't tried the food yet, the menu looks solid. The location is a huge bonus: it's right before security, which makes it perfect whether you're waiting for guests to arrive or grabbing a drink before heading through. Total win/win. The space itself is gorgeous--big open area with comfy booths, TVs for catching the game, and stunning wood ceilings that give it a warm, Northwest vibe. Huge windows let in tons of natural light and offer awesome views of planes taking off, landing, and pulling up to the gates. Ordering is easy at the bar, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. It's a great spot to kick off your trip with a drink, or to meet up with your crew before flying out. Only downside? Not many power outlets, so charging your devices might be tricky. I made plans to be at the airport a few hours before my flight to take in the new remodel. I ended up hiking up to the mezzanine to visit Loyal Legion before passing through TSA. Loyal Legion really anchored themselves to the prime spot in the airport. Glad they did too, because the beer bar selection is amazing with decent price to boot. Their food offering is also pretty decent too. I ended up ordering the McLoyal with a side of Caesar salad. Even though the McLoyal is suppose to be their take on a Mcdonald big mac, it's an attempt but not the same; still good though. The salad was delicious, it was covered with parmesan. Great spot to hang out before/after a flight, and especially when you're waiting to pick someone up--it's pre security and above where travelers exit. The food and beer are reasonably priced. Beers are $7--which is nearly impossible to find in an airport. They took away two of the best items on the menu, the tofu bowl and the chicken bowl. I tried the new versions and they're not my favorite. Please bring back the other bowls!! There is a fun speakeasy at the PDX location. My wife wanted to visit a café of some sort this weekend; unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of coffee, so my all of Yelp expertise was of little use. Yet one idea did occur to me: the new terminal at PDX is open now...surely there must be a pre-security coffee shop we could visit, right? I mean, come on, this is Portland! Where would we be without at least a Starbucks or a Stumptown on every streetcorner? There had to be some place worth grabbing a cup to jitter the nerves before an even-more nerve-wracking flight, right? As surmised, there is a coffee shop before the security gate; a couple of them, in fact, including all the repeat offenders I've already mentioned. And we ended up at none of them. Instead, my wife was enamored with the glitz and glamor of the new terminal, and wanted an elevated view of it while sipping a hot cup of...chili. Naturally, we ended up at Loyal Legion! Without getting too deep into the weeds, I'll summarize our experience here thusly: incredible service, excellent food and drinks, but small-ish portion sizes for the price. You can always expect and airport mark-up, and we were prepared for it, but everything seemed a bit on the anemic side. I had the McLoyal burger (a la carte, as all sandwiches are served, unless you specifically add on side dishes) and a Sazerac cocktail, both of which hit the spot for the savory and bitter notes I usually crave, but if I had my Druthers, each of them would have been a good 20%-30% larger. My wife did also get her cup of coffee, along with a cup of chili, the combination of which probably would explain why her stomach was unsettled later in the day, but that's her own fault for ingesting such a noxious concoction! Still, each of them was satisfying in their own regard, even if it isn't the most elegant of pairings. Again, the price seemed a little elevated for the quantity presented, in the case of the chili, but not outlandishly so. Being frequent travelers, my wife and I are very likely to return to PDX in the near-ish future, and Loyal Legion does offer some fantastic fare, but its pre-security location serves as both boon and burden to locals like us: if we're on an outbound flight, it's not spectacular enough to warrant a stop if time is of the essence, and getting through security is a primary objective. Similarly, it's not distinct enough in its offerings to draw us in to an inconvenient place like an airport terminal repeatedly, based solely on its own merits. Those things said, any casual traveler with time to spare, whether it be a long layover, arriving at the airport earlier than is necessary, or simply taking in the aesthetic of the new terminal, Loyal Legion hits all the marks of a quality pub in a traveler's hub. That alone should earn a legion of loyal customers enough to keep it in its lofty place above the concourse. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting this airport location today, on a short work trip to Portland. The Walking on Sunshine IPA was fantastic. It had a great hazy flavor and smooth taste. I also had a simple smash burger that was pretty good as well. It was a slow Monday so the bar area was very calm and relaxing. Of course, the bartenders were patient and friendly! New addition to PDX airport - great menu with a few vegetarian or even vegan options. Bar food is elevated with burgers, dogs, and some salads. We had the falafel burger and the vegan dog on a salad bed with mustard vinaigrette. Very delicious and one of the best vegan sausages we ever had. And of course you cannot bet against this amazing view. Directly onto the tarmac. The service was very friendly but the kitchen was slow since a lot of their chefs did not showed up - so this will all be fixed in the next couple weeks to have a faster turnout for the kitchen. But the food was worth the wait - and keep in mind Portland Pdx has regular high street prices by law no markups allowed. Definitely not the best bar/restaurant at Portlands airport but it's the only one other than Country Cat (which has a very small seating area) pre-security so there you go. They have a few good servers there but the staff kinda ignores you, literally looking at you then away) unless you flag them down. There also seems to be miscommunication on whether they are an "order at the bar" or at the table type of establishment. I was told I need to order at the bar but witnessed someone placing their order at a table and I was hopeful someone would come by my table, maybe to ask if i needed water or really any thing, but nope. I enjoyed the food and would recommend them due to that. But if you are headed through security you may as well spend your money at one of the restaurants with better/faster service like Henry's. read more

I opened a tab and got a beer, sitting at the bar where you order i wanted a half an hour fo an employee to come back and take an order for dinner and a beer. 20 min later it hadn't show. Call a different server over the beer was eventually delivered. The chicken bow i ordered showed up cold as ice on the bottom hot warm on the top. Service sucks. Location location location :) This Loyal Legion is BEFORE the security, meaning you can go and eat/drink there anytime, even if you don't have a flight, like I did! I was picking up my relatives at PDX and had me a few beers with some chili and a pretzel :) Probably one of the best parts is that the prices are normal! Like you're NOT paying crazy prices like in any other airport in America (minus CLE and BWI, in my experience) at the time of the review practically every beer on the menu $7 for 12oz and $8.50 for a 16oz :) For how beautiful the bar is just see the photos, freaking awesome, best indoor views in a bar in PDX I'm sure!! The food always tastes fresh when I go to the new mezzanine above the entrance to the gates. It has a beautiful viewpoint at the top of the stairs. From both the gate side to the interior decoration. I picked up a Legion Burrito w/ Bacon. The potatoes don't always taste as fresh as this at other places. Possibly due to the fact that other places freeze the potatoes for freshness. All the items in the burritos have a fresh taste to them. And the sauce is VERY flavorful! They have yet to activate either a phone line or online ordering system. But once they open at 8 am, they have a morning menu until 11. Then they switch to the Lunch/Dinner menu. I've only had the breakfast burrito due to time constraints. But any other items look good! I recommend trying it out as it's pre security. And the seat selections are great! read more

I had heard so many good things, so when a friend suggested we head up to the airport and enjoy some good food - why not? First of all, after arriving to the airport on MAX, we were immediately greeted by a Port of Portland sign that clearly stated only ticketed passengers were allowed, and that when asked by a Port of Portland employee we are required to show a boarding pass. Huh? I thought the whole point of moving some of the restaurants and gift shops pre-security was to encourage visitors... Well, we ignored the sign. We got up to Loyal Legion, and there were numerous signs stating to order at the bar. So we approached the bar, and there was one bartender presumably helping another guest so we stood at the counter. While waiting we looked for a food menu but all they had were drink menus. We were there for food... Finally a woman came up and asked if we had been helped. I replied "Hi, do you have a food menu?" She IMMEDIATELY snapped at me, accusing me of being rude and that we all need to be nice to each other. She then went behind the bar, found the food menus (which were not accessible to me) and threw one at me. She then immediately walked away. What did I do? I simply said "Hi, do you have a food menu?" so that we could place an order! I was not rude in any way, shape or form, I simply asked a basic question. As an autistic individual I felt embarassed and shamed by her public dismissal of me just for asking a simple question in a regular tone of voice. I was embarassed and immediately left. Zero stars. And I believe I will be following up with the Port of Portland that one of its tenants is not accommodating to persons with disabilities...if this is how businesses in Portland welcome guests, it's no wonder why so many people give Portland crap as a city. What marketing genius came up with this pretentious, woke business model? It's an international airport , the only bar outside of the gates and you can't even get a Coors, Budweiser or Busch! Apparently they have no clue who Oregonians are. And then they insult you with making the lowest tip available on their POS (point of sale) system 18.5%. Once the order was in, the food came out quickly and was delicious!! The chicken sandwich was crispy and had just the right spice. The tots and pretzel were amazing! Food was definitely better then most airport foods you get in an airport. However, we are in Portland so I would not expect anything less. Anyway, this is a place where you place your order at the bar and then you get a number and find a place where you want to sit and they deliver the food to you. They had a good beer selection and the food was pretty decent, nothing amazing but decent for airport food. They do serve Olympia Provisions sausages and those are always good and consistent. On this visit, I did not have any issues with service or untimely delivery of the food/beer I ordered. My party ordered a sausage, the fried chicken sandwich, and two beers. The hostess/server was nice and greeting us when we came in. As for the ambiance, it is a good space to chill out as it is on the second floor of the airport overlooking the giant arrival area stadium seating courtyard area. It was also good to people watch from up there is you get a seat near the rail area of the space. This restaurant/bar is outside of the security check-in area so if you were planning to eat before your flight, just know that it will not be near any gates. It would be a great area to grab a bite if you are waiting to pick up anyone from the airport and decide to great them when they get out of the secured area of the terminals. read more

Would not go back. Slow service and wrong orders plagued our trip to PDX. After seating ourselves, it took about ten minutes to get anyone to come to the table. Once there, the waiter did not write our order down- and got it wrong. Once we ordered food, it got worse. The order (two blows of chili and caprese salad with two beers), were slow to arrive and the chili was warm, at best. The waiter did not bring the $2 sides of sour cream and we waited for another five minutes for that. We had to get our own spoons to eat it. The order are extremely small and more of an appetizer than food. Those items cost me $80- so much for street pricing. read more

Have not been to any of their other locations but wanted to try based on the look and excitement of the new PDX. Sat at the bar and there were 2 bartenders. Ordered the falafel burger which was quite good and had a side of fries and a side Caesar salad (everything is a la Carte on the sando/burger front). One could tell that things weren't quite organized. Salad didn't come out from the kitchen with the other food. Had to ask the bartender for it and it came out much later. It wasn't anything special. The bartenders were quite nice but they weren't very attentive and I kept having to ask for things like a place setting, etc. Even took a while to get the check. Atmosphere here is great amongst the beautiful new terminal but I will wait for all the kinks to get worked out before venturing a return visit. read more
