Went to the Holly Jolly Bar at LTC yesterday. While there, I decided to read the Yelp reviews on here. I'm not gunna lie, I was nervous for a second because they were all bad . I will say that the experience had improved from what I read. I read that the service was slow and folks felt rushed. Our service wasn't slow and we didn't feel rushed. Our waiter came to our table multiple times and we were able to enjoy everything we ordered in a good amount of time. The welcome drink is the naughty hot chocolate and if I were to have it again I would get it without alcohol. I think it would have tasted better. I don't drink alot though, and I'm more of a bailey's in hot chocolate girlie rather than tequila. So take that as you will. They had some christmas hits playing but they could have added in some more modern versions of the classics to the playlist. The vibe was chill. Definitely get there on time because you have to leave once your time slot is over. We went at the 6p time slot and it was cool. I wonder if it gets more hype in the later time slots. Also, they have high tops and regular tables. I think if you come later, you get places at a high top. I ordered the sliders and they were good imo. I tasted the corn ribs and I really enjoyed those. They were flavorful. My cousins ordered the rolled tacos and they really enjoyed them. They said the chile that comes with the rolled tacos is hot so keep that in mind if you need to stay away from spicy things. Even though these are normally appetizers, I was satisfied with what I ate. It was a good amount of food. We ended up ordering the smores and churros. I did not taste the churros but no one said anything about them so I think the smores were better. I had 2 smores and I might have to buy this little smores kit they had. They were so good. At the end, the grinch came out with some free shots. It was a cool little thing to get into the holiday spirit. We took some pictures for the gram and talked. I will say, I had never been to LTC before so in my mind, I was expecting an actual bar experience. Music, maybe some dancing, lounge seating, etc. That would have been cool but this was nice too. All together I spent around $60 for the whole experience including the ticket and the food. read more

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from here because of the poor reviews, but my group and I were pleasantly surprised. We booked a 4:30pm dinner time on a Sunday about 2 weeks in advance because of the Christmas theme (Holly Jolly Bar) and we were one of the first ones there and seated right away. The admission fee ($19) comes with a welcome hot chocolate drink and we all opted for the non-alcoholic version. We ordered the artichoke dip (our favorite), the rolled tacos, corn ribs and sliders. It was just the right amount for our party of 4, but for the price of ~$15 for each of these plates, I would expect the servings to be much larger. Despite that, they were all pretty good shareables! Service was great, contrary to what previous reviews mentioned. Our server was attentive, constantly checking on us, and our food came out quickly. She even took pics of us which was kind of her. Overall, my friends and I really enjoyed our experience here and we liked that it was nice and intimate instead of loud and crowded. Christmas music was playing the whole time and it was at a good noise level. It probably made a difference too that it wasn't that busy when we went especially with it being after Christmas. Parking isn't really an issue since this is located at the Chula Vista Shopping Mall so there's plenty around, although might be tough to get some right outside with Raising Cane's being right next to this restaurant. read more

We were going to the Halloween pop up speakeasy that's inside the restaurant and wanted to grab a bite before going inside. The inside has fun decor and nice seating. We ordered the sampler platter and everything on it was good. The buffalo wings had a great flavor to it and were crispy. The elote ribs were unique, cooked well, and had a balance of great flavors. Came here for Holly Jolly Christmas and what the actual heck. There's barely any decorations up. It's festive but it gives Salvation Army vibes, if you know what I mean. So we paid $57 for two tickets that came with a free drink. Then $50 on food. *The free drink tasted like watered down hot chocolate lol. Didn't even finish it. *The burger was decent nothing special! *The churros were hard *The only thing I liked was my corn rib but if you think about it, it's literally 1 mini corn split into 4s and sold for $13 lol !! Came here with friends to experience the Holly Jolly Bar and really enjoyed ourselves. The place is all decked out in Christmas decor. Great place to get into the Christmas spirit. CON: The place is a bit crowded due to the fact they are squeezing as many people as they can in the space. PRO: unlike some the previous reviews, service was friendly and fast. They understand you have only a 90 minute timeframe to enjoy yourselves, but they didn't make you feel rushed either. First time visiting thought why not make it their Halloween speakeasy pop-up experience. Ticket was $25 which includes a drink, but the drink didn't seem to have any liquor in it (seemed like just soda). The food menu was small as well as the drinks. As I had other dinner plans I didn't eat here, but the place was a vibe. You walk through "haunted" part that you have Michael Myers and other Halloween characters walk up to you. Then you come to the restaurant side that is decorated for Halloween. You get seated in the order you enter based on your party's size. Then staff dressed up in Halloween costumes walk around the tables as you dine. Service was quick considering it was a full house. Definitely would do it next year for the vibes ... Where do I begin! Hey Yelp friends.. please tell me what day you went and received 5star service? Talk about a horrible Mother's Day meal. I'm sorry but the one star was really for the decor. Let's start with arrival shall we. We got there around 11:30am, they opened at 10. They were not busy and there was plenty of available tables. The hostess was nice and and said about a 20 min wait- ok fine. We walked around for about 10min and on the way back we noticed people arriving and immediately were seated. She then told us our table is ready. They sat us in the back area. We waited... and waited... and waited. There were about 4 other tables that were seated back there. Finally the same hostess that sat us came and took our order and said she was just helping. We ordered drinks and appetizers and of course food. Ive never waited so long for a drink. The whole time we're waiting we see what's going on. Clearly they were short staffed, but it was not busy. Not once did we have a waiter or waitress. There was I think an employee wearing an Adidas track suit I guess helping out but plates were being served at different times to the same table. People were asking for refills or salsas and no one would come back. The hostess finally does a drive by with my drink and I looked at it and immediately knew it was not a old fashion. It was a shot of liquor with a huge round ice cube, and a orange peel smh. I flagged "someone" down a let her know about the drink.. a few minutes later she comes by and said they only have Jack Daniels!! WHAT!!!.. they served me a shot of Jack and played it off as a Old Fashion! It was all down hill after that! And the replacement Strawberry Margarita was all Marga with no Rita, no Tito's, no Patron, nada!! -my daughter's coke was disgusting - the guacamole and pork rinds/chips were ok, but needed sal - we both ordered steak fajitas and when I tell you they were so oily and greasy and had maybe 4 lil pieces of meat, and mostly veggies. Everything needed a dash of salt. - The elote corn ribs weren't bad but kinda cold. Not once did anyone introduced them self or did we have a set server. It was a hot mess all around. My husband and I sat outside on the patio. The breeze was super nice. The table was clean and the restaurant was not busy at all. We had a mistake with the drink ordered, which was fixed very easily! The rolled tacos were my husband's favorite. The wings were juicy but could have been a bit crispier. The churros were my favorite (perfectly fried while soft in the middle). I think the only thing really concerning was for how slow it was, it took forever to get refills or service. When we cashed out, the waitress was also rude at the end. I'm so glad I tried this place! This is a newer restaurant in the Chula Vista mall, and it is goooood! Their carne asada tacos were a hit! And their drinks matched...delicious! The atmosphere was very upbeat and fun. We came on Cinco de Mayo and there was a live DJ playing all the latest songs. I had a free yelp check in offer to taste their las catrinas? First time here was over the season for hte "holly Jolly bar" experience. Sadly we were super disappointed. The fee to get in was ridiculous, $25 a person just to walk-in and get a welcome "drink". We were sat at our table and a person walks over and just sets down 4 Luke warm beverages, not a word wash said to us other wise. the table next to us however, they were asked if they would like the "welcome beverage" to have alcohol or not. Am I to understand that we paid 100+ for a party of 4 to get almost cold (hot) chocolate this is absurd. After about 15 mins pasted our waiter comes back over and says, "ready?". not hello, not welcome, nothing! his first wordo to us are "ready!". if we had not already paid to be here we would have left. we decided to order an actual round of drinks, they were a little sweet but tasty. the menu was very very limited so we got two apps, the corn ribs and the rolled tacos. each were very yummy but ran about 22.00 a plate. for APPS this is wayyyyyyy over priced. We ended up not ordering anything else and went somewhere for an actual dinner. SD Buckget List and LTC should really be ashamed of themselves for this abuse of the Hoilday Spirt. Food was not good. There was a lack of flavor. My lemon pepper wings didn't hit me until the 3rd wing and there were only about 5-6 wings. The carne asada on the carne asada fries tasted dry and over fried, like recooked meat but also the jalapeños tasted old and for vinegar jalapeños to not taste like vinegar, they must have been really old. The only decent food I tasted were the sliders. The drinks were weak, didn't taste the alcohol and even the "fruit flavor" wasn't really there. My mango martini tasted like watered down mango juice, definitely not worth the price. The service was good, our waiter was attentive and nice. But there was an issue about getting drinks at the bar directly rather than asking our waiter for them. The house guacamole was pretty good, loved that they have chicharrón with guacamole. Ahi tuna tostara were pretty good, needed more spice Camarón ranchero, one of the worst dishes. The shrimp tasted rough and for 5 shrimps with a side of rice was about $22, kind of pricey. Achiote pulpo, the octopus was cool perfectly. Let me preface this review by saying this was my first time at Las Tres Catrinas since they replaced Shakey's Pizza. We booked a reservation for 6 at their pop up "Holly Jolly Bar" through sdbucketlist. Online presentation seemed nice.. about $24/person to reserve in advance. We did a 6pm reservation on a Sunday. Arrived a little before 6 and everyone is pretty confused cause we're told to get in line still. Didn't realize the guy telling us to get in line worked there. We didn't get seated til 6:15. They serve our "complimentary drink" at almost 6:30. Server Rebecca doesn't come back for another 10 mins to take our drink orders. She asks if we wanna order food and as we're looking at the menu, she just walks away. We eventually don't get our food til almost 7 and as we're still eating, she drops off the check and tells us she's closed us out. This is like 7:10.. she comes back asking if we're paying cash or card. Which we haven't even looked at the check cause we're still eating.. she tells us we have 5 mins and walks away again. We had to ask for water - which I would think is a default service at a dining establishment and even then, it was given to us at the end of our meal and in a plain plastic cup, room temp no ice. They need to do a better job at EXPLAINING/COMMUNICATING to guests that if they have a reservation that maybe they should arrive 15 mins prior so they can actually seat everyone in a timely manner. Also maybe explaining CLEARLY that yes, the reservation is booked for 90mins but if that's literally all you give us.. seat us on time & maybe have more servers to take orders on time so your guests don't feel rushed out. It gives a less than Jolly experience for sure. 1 star for the decor and cause our drinks were good. Food was mediocre. Service was poor. I don't recommend for bigger groups, especially with the time constraint. I definitely wouldn't come back. There's so many other Christmas themed places in SD that I'm SURE would provide a better experience than the one we had. Also they don't split checks. This is a new restaurant in the Chula Vista place so I wanted to check it out. We got there on a Friday and thought it would be busy and we would have to wait. We were able to get a table right away at 5PM. One thing we noticed is that they were fully staffed which was a great thing. I ordered a margarita and three carna asada tacos. The margarita was very tasty and was a perfect blend. Didn't taste sugary and was just right. I was surprised you the tacos they were very very good. The carne was tender and very flavorful. The taco shell had melted cheese inside!! It really made the taco! We also had guacamole and that was good as well. The pricing was very reasonable. The staff was very friendly and attentive! My friend was in town and his date heard about this new place. Atmosphere on the restaurant was cool. Staff was friendly. Now for the 2* review: -$18 for 3 little enchiladas with a tiny portion of rice and beans -The music was TERRIBLE (spice girls, disco music, rock) -We saw the chef leave the bathroom without washing his hands -the club side had a live band but it was so loud that even when we screamed at each other we couldn't hear -The Bill was the icing on the cake. We ordered the same drinks as the restaurant side (same menu) but for the same price the glasses were half the size. Vodka soda was double the price of the restaurant side. OMG! The words "impressive" and "sublime" easily come to mind! Sorry this is long overdue! I thought I had written it earlier but I didn't! We were in Chula Vista visiting my brother in the hospital across the street when I searched on Yelp for nearby restaurants. My husband was craving Mexican food and there were several in the area. We saw the reviews here & chose this place. What a great decision! We entered the establishment and it had a flashy, interesting interior but it was very clean. We were greeted by our beautiful, vivacious waitress Norma. She seated us right away and made some recommendations. My husband ordered the cheese enchiladas and I ordered the carne asada tacos. Can't even put into words how delicious theses dishes were! We were so impressed with the presentation and the taste! Our palates were completely satiated! Norma then recommended their churro donut dessert! Absolutely delicious! This is a must try! Overall the best dining experience! Since the day this place was being set up It caught my eye. We decided to check it out for lunch today and it was a hit. We were recommended to try the tinga rolled tacos. It was an amazing appetizer. The two sauces on the plate poblano and red had so much flavor. Next we ordered tacos I got the carne asada tacos made with arrachera. The guacamole was so creamy with a hint of lemon. The cheese crisp inside the tacos gave it an amazing crunch. The hubby got mahi mahi tacos they were also amazing. The batter these tacos are made with tasted just as good as they look. The mango salsa topping was a party in my mouth. Lastly, dessert was the biggest hit for us. This place was amazing...from the food to the service was an all the way amazing experience. We came here because it was near our hotel. We had a large party and were seated right away, and food came out quickly. (And it was delicious) the wait staff and management checked in on us often. At the end of our meal we were brought a yummy desert for free. The hubby and I went about 8 months ago for happy hour the food wasn't great but it wasn't bad but the service was super slow thought to myself I wudnt be coming back again ... Well we went last nite again and I know it was mother day but when we got there it was 6:40 pm and not very busy... hostess told us the wait was 15 minutes we saw about 1/4 of the restaurant tables empty so we believed him.... 50 min later they gave us a table after bugging the hostess twice ... we sat there for a good 25 min before the waitress got there to take our order once she did we made sure we order everything at once because we knew it would take a long time to get our food ... they didn't have coffee (like who doesn't but ok) we order queso fundido as appetizer got it 25 min later with no tortillas or chips just the melted cheese (so how were we suppose to eat it?) but the time we got the waitress attention to bring us some tortillas. The cheese had harden and we couldn't eat it. My mother-in-law got her food 1st the salmon plate which she said was good. 25 min later I got my food the 20 min after my husband got his. It was very disappointing that we didn't get to eat together because the food came out at different times. The food itself is OK not the greatest but their alcohol drinks is what might bring me back (NOT). They had live music and the place is nicely decorated. I don't think I would go back again. I see the potential in the place in the Food, but management and employees need to be changed. And after $180 for 2 drinks, 1 appetizer, 1 soda and 3 entrées we once again had a horrible experience. We decided to try this place and we were not disappointed. We had a 30 min wait and sat at bar until our table was ready. We missed Happy Hour which is from 3-7 Mon- Fri. We had drinks while we waited and they were so tasty. With just right amount of alcohol. The chips and salsa were very yummy too. Our waitress Maria del Rocio was very attentive as the young man with a ponytail. They provided top notch service. Made sure we had our drinks and checked to make sure we had all we needed for dinner. It was a Friday night and music was provided by DJ Alex. The music kept you moving and wanting to Dance. We ordered the 3 meat fajitas, Mahi fish taco place and the guacamole (comes with 4 pork rinds) the food was so good and good portions. Highly recommend. Overall the atmosphere, food, and drinks were fine. Stuff here was a bit more on the pricey side. I had a slight issue at the bar and a mix up with my tab where I was initially charged incorrectly. They took a few minutes to remedy it. Upon moving to the seating area the waitress who took our orders skipped over me and got the rest of the party's orders. I had to ask her when she passed by again to take my order to which she did. Some attention to detail issues IMO here but overall this was still an okay spot to grab food and drinks. read more

I thought this place okay. Limited menu selection and kinda of pricey. We came on a Saturday night and sat next to the DJ. The waitress was not familiar with the menu at all and we had to show her the items on the menu. The drinks weee good though. We just visited this place for the first time! I highly recommend: entree-shrimp fajitas, app-bacon wrapped shrimp, dessert-fried plantains w/ice cream, and cocktail-mama coco. I love the ambiance, this place is so adorable! The service was also really good! read more

I came here for the Holly Jolly pop up bar. Right off the bat I had already spent $47.76 which is a ticket and a welcome drink for 2 people. The welcome drink was a hot chocolate that you could get with or without tequila. My partner and I both opted in for the tequila but we are convinced there was not one drop of alcohol in the drink. I felt and tasted nothing, neither did my partner and she is actually very sensitive to alcohol. The service was friendly but painfully slow, we had to ask several times for waters, napkins, and utensils. I ordered a drink from their holiday menu, the peppermint martini, and oh boy it was awful. It was way too sweet and the peppermint was overwhelming. The minty of the drink mixed with the fact that it was served cold just made my stomach hurt. It was like drinking toothpaste. Next, the food. The prices were a little insane, $45 for steak. $22 for s'mores. I got the sliders (3) for $15 and my partner got the rolled tacos for $16. The sliders were very disappointing. Bland. No flavor. The rolled tacos were actually good, the one good thing we had that night actually. But small serving. We left hungry. Overall a disappointing experience. The one nice thing about our time here was the Christmas decor. The lights were cute and I loved the ambiance. Not sure it's worth almost $100 for some decor and disappointing food though. read more

Came here for a celebration for a friend, the food was good, there was taquitos, chips n salsa and quesadillas, the problems began with my drink...I ordered the Mexican candy drink, then menu priced it at $15, for this amount I expected a much larger glass than what it came in but overall it was a refreshing drink and reminded of a sandia sucker. Now i must say we were a very large group and for some reason there was only 1 server assigned to our area which I thought was bad staffing. The server brought me my bill for my drink listing it at $17 not the $15 listed in the menu PLUS they had already added the tip to the bill since we were a large party making the total of the drink almost $22. I flagged the server over and pointed out the pricing difference and she said she would go ask the manager an about it...it may have only been a $2 but since you're already adding tip to my bill also I think you should be charging your customers correctly. I waited 15 minutes and the server never came back so I went over to the bar so I could just pay the bill because I needed to leave, luckily (or so I thought) the server was at the bar and I told her I wanted to just pay the bill and go...she took the bill from me and I handed her a $50 (keep in mind the drink was $22) as I handed her the money she looked at me and said "you got change" and I said yes I'd Like change and she looked back at me and asked me again if I had change and I said no that's why I gave you the $50...she rolled her eyes at me and said fine and walked away. While this was happening I had 2 friends with me watching the whole thing. About 7 minutes later she came back and with frustration she handed me change and I let her know she actually gave me too much back and I gave her what she over paid me and I still even left her a tip because I felt bad for her being the only server working this huge party. As soon as I got to my house I received a phone call from a friend who told me the server was telling people in my party that I left without paying my bill which to me was super embarrassing to be accused of and not being there to correct the issue myself...the idea that my friends are now being told I walked out on a bill was horrifying!! I asked my friend (who was standing with me when I paid) to kindly remind the server I had given her cash and indeed had paid my bill and even left a tip on top of already being up charged! I texted my friend a few minutes later and she said everything had been cleared up. Idk how I really feel about this place yet because I'm solely basing my current review off of this one experience. I plan on going back on a regular evening to see how service really is on a regular night but for right now it's a 1.5 star review because the food especially the taquitos were really good! read more

PROS: the atmosphere is interesting and colorful, the decaf coffee was good, and the customer service was reasonable. CONS: no chips and salsa!, the food portion to price ratio is out of balance (not much food for the heavy cost); no jams/condiments offered with the toast; the egg white omelet is small; though they do have Coke products they do not offer Coke Zero; the dual children's menus were confusing; the bill for two adults and one child will be very close to $50 for lunch (ours was $47.14, and that was without ordering any appetizers). BOTTOM LINE: if you're on a diet and don't mind overpaying for your lunch, this is the place for you. read more
