Charged me up front for work they couldn't finish, thought it was strange but I went with it. Go back the following week and they are unable to complete the job...and guess what, no refund. The reason given was extremely compelling..."I can't do that." Absolutely terrible customer experience. Go with your gut instinct on this one, no one with this many 1 star reviews is worth a visit...unless, of course, you want to roll the dice on your vehicle's well being. read more

Took my car here last month for an oil change. I'd taken it here on the previous oil change 3 months prior and had no issues. This time they told me that the oil drain plug wouldn't fit back in the hole so they had to use an oversized plug. They suggested I would need to maybe have the oil sucked out when I come back for subsequent oil changes and to let them know if I had problems with the plug but eventually I'd need a new oil pan. A few days later the oil is leaking in my garage so I brought it back. They tightened the plug and again reiterated that taking the plug in and out for oil changes is probably not a great idea. Took it to the dealership the next day. Oil isn't leaking but we will need a new oil pan b/c they can't make another factory plug and the threads are likely stripped so this new plug will have issues taking it in and out for oil changes. Called Lube Pitstop back and asked them to pay for this repair. Nothing was wrong with the drain plug before I took it there and they were the last ones to do an oil change. There has been no service on the car between them servicing it and we have never had any issues. They are refusing to pay for the needed repair. I think they stripped the threads and then charged us $10 for an oversized plug that is just a temporary solution to a much more expensive repair (oil pan change will be $300-500). I won't be taking my car here again. read more

In the past, I dreaded taking my car in for an oil change because my automotive knowledge is pretty basic, and I sometimes got pressured into repairing something that I later learned did not need to be fixed at all. Based on the reviews here, I went for my oil change in my new car to Pit Stop on S. Lamar. First of all, they will not give more than one discount at a time so I could only take advantage of the Ladies Day discount of $5. Not much of savings since their rates are quite high to begin with. Also they take $5 off AFTER adding tax which didn't seem right to me. They did take only 10 minutes. read more

They take the time to show mechanical concerns (example: suggestion to replace the air filter or wait till you give the go ahead. No high pressure up sales.) and continually exhibit professionalism. First time going today for oil change and tire rotation. Nicest dudes ever--I sat out on a seat to chat and watch them work on my car rather than go inside to the air conditioned waiting room! Very prompt service. They even clean front/rear windshields--just because. Made such a difference as I drove away. I actually enjoyed going to get my car serviced! I'd used George @ Kinney Avenue Garage since I was a college kid, and was totally loyal to him for inspections. He retired & closed his shop about 6 years ago, and have been using Lube Pitstop EVERY time since (for two vehicles - one diesel, one gasoline powered). I've been taking my car for oil changes and for Brad the mechanic to work on it for over the past four years. The people here are honest and kind. My 2004 Mazda Tribute has had its share of issues since I moved here, and a friend that's a local austinite recommended this place. As a woman, I have always felt taken advantage of and clueless when getting my car worked on. Brad explains everything and even tries to help save me money. I trust him and I have never said that about a mechanic! I recommend every person I know to this business. You will feel taken care of and most importantly not taken advantage of. read more

Since the place that I used to get my oil changes closed, I was glad to find this place through Yelp. I concur with the other posters: fast, friendly, didn't try to scam me with services I didn't need. Gave me a discount just for being a first-timer - how cool is that? Also non-chain, and locally owned. Helpful hint: they have coupons out there - look for them. They also give $2 off to women on Thursdays, and $2 off if you have their sticker on your windshield when you go back in. read more

Do yourself a favor and go here!!! I got my car inspected here and it only took like 10-15 minutes. Some guy pulled in behind me and tried to cut in line and the inspector guy attended me first. That goes a long way with me, as I am totally fed up with people cutting in line. The inspector filled up my fluids as a courtesy, because I;d been hoodwinked by a chain store the day before, and then he gave me a coupon to come back and get an oil change for half off. He treated my like he would expect someone to treat his wife and I really appreciate that. Great experience. I can see why they have so many good reviews. My only regret was not discovering this place earlier. I will drive across town to get my all my oil changes done here from now on. read more

I've had my vehicle inspections there for over 15 years. Today the inspections attendant pointed out a different entry to the lot and explained how other people have had traffic back up using the entry I did (again, 15 years using that entry) and that they were not thinking and gestured pointing to his head. I let it go but reconsidered letting them inspect my car once i realized no one was using any face covering and i just saw one of the other attendants sneeze into his hands and phone 2 feet from the guy about to inspect my car. Going to the muffler place further south from now on. They have protocols in place! read more

I tell you what, I don't know where y'all found Cody but that man is great. Went in to get an inspection but by service engine light came on shortly before. He brought it in and hooked it up to his machine so he could see what the problem was. He gave me a print out and told me it is likely to be an oxygen sensor. Gave me some pointers on what to do before returning for the inspection. He told me to drive it between 50-100 miles to ensure everything thing is ready. I asked him how much I owed him and he told me, "Don't worry about it. Just come back and see us." That I most definitely will do. I look forward to returning. read more

So much better than Jiffy Lube! I bookmarked Lube Pit Stop on yelp and today I got to experience what a non-shady oil change experience is like. It's nice that they don't do the schtick, like, hey little lady, you need to replace your air filter and looky here at this graph, your car is at xxx miles so you need your blankety-blank service done. I just don't trust Jiffy Lube or some of those chain establishments. This place is locally owned and I actually liked chatting with the guys that worked there. Nice. read more

I chose this place because of the amazing rating that they had here at Yelp. My experience was a little different. The guy changing the oil did tell me that my automatic transmission fluid was "looking pretty gnarly" But he didn't just tell me, he brought a a pallet that showed a brightly colored pink liquid and something underneath it that looked like rust. As I didn't think it had ever been changed, I asked him to change it. Had there not been complications, I would have been out just before closing time. ... but.. there were complications, which I believe had little to do with the people doing the service. Something was blocking the tube to add the fluid, and caused the fluid to backup and spit out a number of times. I left about 15 minutes after 5, after two people explained what had happened, one of them, the person that I watched doing the procedure, gave me a fully detailed blow-by-blow description. I'm happy with my experience, overall. ( The oil change was done in 10 minutes. The other procedure took only slightly longer than it was quoted, but that was with the complications described, above. ) read more

Ok so it's not someone else's fault if you can't go another route around a building if someone else is going that direction. The inspector there was just doing his job taking a vehicle around for an inspection and was blocked off by someone coming up on of the 2 driveways. The customer refused to go the other way and wanted the inspector to back up completely around the shop. Thus blamed him for the little mixup. If you think you are royalty and don't have to budge even if an accident may be caused, then something is wrong with you. I appreciate your hard work (forgot the inspectors name). I felt like I was cheating on my boyfriend by visiting Lube Pit Stop during my lunch hour (because I'm usually quite faithful to my hairstylist and my mechanic) but it was an emergency! My "check engine light" came on was making me mighty nervous, especially since my oil change was overdue. Come to find out it was simply the gas cap not being tight enough. What I discovered was a fantastic locally owned business that has got the oil change thing down solid! During a busy lunch hour I was in and out within 15 minutes, had an oil change, air filter change, tire pressure adjusted, fluids checked and topped off, and even my windshield washed....all accomplished by a very helpful, friendly and courteous staff. Plus they have their own brand of synthetic oil, which will save you about $20. read more
