It has been forever since I have been here. The staff and service were incredible. Our waiter kept checking on us every five minutes. It seemed like. The prices were great. You can get an entrée with two sides and a drink for 999 or a larger portion for 1199. This is cheaper than a lot of fast food places! This Luby's is the only Luby's I know of that cooks their food the way it was back when I was a kid. It's perfection. I have tried other locations but they were honestly awful to the point I couldn't finish my food. This is the only one I know of still holding up to its name . The staff here are amazing except for the female supervisor . Attitude every time I see her and her customer service skills are rated at a 0 while her staffs are rated at a 5 out of 5. Just left this location and will not be returning. My son's broccoli was INFESTED WITH MAGGOTS. There had to be at least 8-10 maggots in his broccoli. And staff didn't seem phased by it once so ever. This is the place that memories are better than reality. Meaning growing up I had so many fond meals here with my family. I feel like now the food quality has gone down. Some dishes are super bland while others are overly salty. However, it's one of the few places you can still get cafeteria style food at an affordable price. Alright, the place for old ladies and men, is still the place for old ladies and men. However, when you need a lunch meal that isn't a hamburger and fries or sandwich, this is the place to go too. It's all standard cafeteria, American style food, but you feel a little less guilty eating here. I like that you can stay healthy with the salad choices and vegetable sides, or be decadent and unhealthy with things like mac and cheese and their very delicious strawberry shortcake. I really like that all the options are there for you to choose. I've never dealt with cold food, but some of the food on the line is clearly overcooked/burned. I have on occasion asked for better pieces of fried fish and the one time I accepted a burnt corn bread I regretted it. It tasted like burnt corn bread. I think the burnt food is a response to cold food complaints if you look at previous reviews from years past. If you get a number for an order, you will wait an extra 10-15 minutes, even if they tell you it will come out right away. They were nice enough to redo my entire sides, so they wouldn't be cold. However, I wouldn't have accepted that number for my special order, if I knew the to go order would take an additional 15 minutes. I could have easily changed to a different main entree. They seem to be pretty quick during the lunch hour, and only ran into slow service once. I'm happy they're making improvements and adjustments as it shows me they're listening. I definitely don't want them to go back to cold food, but having non burnt warm food should be reasonable. However, if you're a ride or die fan of Luby's fan, you probably don't care. If you're gonna come anyways, get the strawberry shortcake. It is perfect every single time. I'm like the one person in America that isn't crazy about their mac and cheese, but the fried fish combo is pretty great, especially during lent. read more

Having never visited a Lubys before, I was it's a must try and a Houston staple. So off to Lubys for lunch! Ordered my employees lunch from here as we found out they were closing due to covid... Ordered the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and mac n cheese! It sounded amazing and like a food coma waiting to happen. What I was greeted with was bland hospital food. Sad, sad, day! I came back here a couple of times after a bad experience. Two of the trips were okay but the last one reminded me of exactly why I don't much care for this location. My family and I came by for the breakfast buffet after an amazing experience at the Katy location. The selection out there was so amazing at such a great price that we had to try again. This trip was anything but. The items in the buffet were mediocre at best. The eggs were runny, the oatmeal was ridiculously bland, the hash browns were similarly bland. I think the eggs and the bread were just about the only things that I'd call okay or good. Even worse, the place is a buck or two more expensive, but didn't have barbacoa, chilaquiles, tortillas, or cheese, which were some of the best aspects of the Katy spread. The juice dispenser wasn't working. We got four different glasses of OJ that tasted like flavored water before I demanded a refund for our beverages. They took my receipt to issue the refund, then didn't give it back-- which is a serious issue considering you need the receipt to go back through the line for the AYCE breakfast. Luby's cafeteria has always been what I have expected, decent food at a reasonable price $$. The last several years the price of plates have gone up, but the quality of food is the same no matter which Luby's you visit. It does sometimes differ on what is being offered menu wise from other Luby's locations on any given day. The customer service is good. It is usually a quiet atmosphere not loud like many places, I enjoy being able to speak comfortably with others at my table. We swing by at least 3 times per year. Well they finally have gotten the breakfast better for all you can eat on Saturday and Sunday. They make then in smaller cast iron skillets so they don't sit in that steaming metal pan boiling under water for hours. Eggs were great and the Texas toasted bread was soft. Good bacon but all were crispy hard. I like mine soft or at least you can bend it. Sausage was ok too. So took a chance and came back for the little buffet and it's was 100 percent better! Decided to check this place out this morning since it was close by. I wish I hadn't. It was a waste of $20 (2 kids 1 adult breakfast). The buffet variety is very limited. Eggs, a couple potato dishes, and the normal breakfast meat. Nothing to get excited about. There were no vegetables nor fruit. The eggs and hash browns were the safest items on the menu. As far as the meat all of it seemed to be cooked with extra salt. Didn't think you could mess bacon or sausage links up but they managed to do it. Luby's is not native to where I am from so this was my first visit. I'm positive I won't step foot in another one. Like, they really ruined BACON. The Stafford location should be closed, it's old and dirty! The food here is just not living up to the expectations of what the other Lubys restaurants. I ordered a simple chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and corn, the mashed potatoes were bland and the gravy tasted and had the consistency of water. When I told the manager about it his response was " Well I'm looking at it and it looks fine to me." I've been eating lubys for over 20 years and never have I gotten that type of gravy, it was horrible and they should be ashamed to sell something like that!
