VERY DISAPPOINTED. Made reservations for Valentine's Day on February Ist. Contacted on Feb 7th via email that our reservation was canceled. No explanation. Called and was informed by the Host that Valentine's Day is first come first serve only? No attempt to accommodate the fact it was their website error, and we had a confirmed reservation as well as taking a week to cancel on their end. Asked if we could be put on an early wait list for our original reservation time to accommodate the mix up and was told the only way to get a table was for one person in the party to show up and wait. The spaghetti sauce tasted like Ragu from the grocery store and the sausage in the meal tasted just like what I buy at home. Service was fine however I felt the servers and cleanup personnel needed to be trained in manners. They delivered and picked up the dishes by reaching across us each one of us. We were heading home from Solvang and we stopped off in Camarillo for dinner. I searched up Italian food and this place popped up. We went there and were very satisfied! It's an authentic family owned restaurant. We ordered the gnocchi Loren and chicken piccata. Both were so good! The gnocchi Loren came with chicken, mushrooms, tomatoes in a creamy marinara sauce. Definitely worth getting again. My husband got the chicken piccata so I only had a few bites but I really liked the sauce the dish came with. It was a creamy lemon sauce that complimented the chicken. Thanks for a great meal and we'll definitely be back the next time we pass through town! read more

The Risotto Pescatore was delicious and absolutely loaded with seafood. There was so much seafood that every bite you get a scallop, calamari or shrimp. I was surprised cause I thought restaurants usually skimp on the seafood but I learned that these guys do not. The outside is undergoing construction because of the shopping center it is, but once you get in the service is great and the place looks like a very nice Italian restaurant. read more

I typically avoid Italian restaurants because I've found them to be overpriced and the food only "meh." It was my buddy's turn to pick a lunch restaurant and he selected Lucerne so I sighed and went along with it. Wow! What a great experience! The pasta was *actually* al dente with just enough sauce to add a delicious flavor but not drown the dish. The ambiance was wonderful: white linen tablecloths and napkins, various bottles of wine on display, and (gasp!) pleasant Italian/classical music playing softly. The staff was clean, professional, polite, smiling, and genuinely helpful. It was all great but I feared the price was going to be the catch. Nope! $20-$25 for a reasonable amount of quality food. I recommend their Lasagna, garlic bread, and cannolis for dessert! Service excellent Ambiance - definitely a couples date night place - Salad needed salt -Gnocchi dense but not gummy like they could be. Gnocchi should be light and hardly worked or kneaded. I am a gnocchi snob they also needed nutmeg in them. I wish they grated the cheese in front of you but the server brought a dome shaped dish with cheese crumbles to sprinkle over. Sauce was pink- lacked flavor even though it had chicken and mushroom. Bread is heart shaped and yummy! Better than the Olive Garden, but it is a nice niche family owned restaurant. read more

We truly had one of the best meals we've ever experienced at this little hidden gem in Camarillo. Don't be turned off from the location because once you step inside, you'll forget all about the exterior. The ambiance last night was soft & intimate-- perfect for our date night. We were greeted immediately & our server quickly seated us. He was kind, friendly & attentive throughout our meal. Now... the food. We began with the Baked Brie & Roasted Garlic appetizer, which was mind-blowing. The creamy, warmed brie complimented the roasted garlic & balsamic glaze perfectly. We also had the broccoli soup & Caesar salad-- both delicious. The soup was creamy without being too rich, with a subtle broccoli flavor. The Caesar salad was balanced in acidity & richness. My fiancé had the special that night-- a halibut dish covered in a mustard sauce with lemon & capers. The plate also had a garlic pasta dish (I'm assuming it was spaghetti aglio e olio but unsure) and roasted vegetables. The sauce was bright with citrus flavor, the fish was flaky & tender, & the sides were truly divine. I ordered the Gnocchi Loren & I was so satisfied. The gnocchi were like little potato pillows, accompanied by mushrooms & chicken in a creamy tomato sauce. I had to force myself to stop eating because I wanted dessert! To cap off an amazing meal, we selected the cannoli & Frangelico custard. We also enjoyed a cappuccino while savoring dessert. Both desserts were amazing-- & not too sweet. The cannoli was crisp and the filling was creamy & dotted with yummy chocolate chips. The custard was rich, with just a hint of Frangelico flavor. Ok, don't be scared away by the exterior. Their building is dated and undergoing renovation right now. I'm glad we didn't let it turn us away. Service was friendly and attentive without being over the top. The interior was quaint, slightly formal without feeling too stuffy. Most impressive was the pasta. All four of one entrees were wonderful. Pasta was fresh and delicate and everything served piping hot. Hidden gem. The food here is amazing. I stumbled upon this place and went with my family to get dinner. We were wary of the construction next door but decided to give it a try. They did not disappoint. We each had a different dish and loved what we ate. The lasagna special was the favorite of the table. The gnocchi was perfectly cooked and lightly sauced. The chicken parmigiana was different from a typical dish. It was fresh and tender with a wonderful sauce. We at the food so fast I wasn't able to get a picture. We decided to have dessert and had the chocolate cake. It was the perfect dish to end the night. It was moist and not too rich. The service was great. We had several workers checking on us throughout our meal marking sure we had enough bread and water. They had a very extensive wine selection with was displayed throughout the restaurant. Randomly found this restaurant and overall I was very pleased. It's kinda of tucked away in a strip mall but once you find it and enter you feel very welcomed. The ambiance is nice and dinner was met with white table cloths. It's has an intimate setting and a nice / simple decor. I had shorts and a polo shirt on but saw people dressed nicer. No tie or jacket needed here though. The bread basket which had two different kinds of bread was very disappointing. Both types of bread were cold, hard and just bad. Funny thing is other reviewers said they loved the bread? Besides that everything else was very very good! The two gentlemen that served us were polite and professional. Our meal was great. The chicken marsala was great and the veggies and pasta that came with it was great as well. The moscato wine was delicious. The minestrone soup was good but a little watery, I'd get it again though. The calamari was thick cut and very tasty. The ultimate surprise here which is what will bring me back was the marinara sauce. I've had Italian food all over the world and this was easily in the top 3 that I've ever had!!! So good. I'm gonna come back and get a couple pastas, I can't wait! Give them a try if you can... I hate discovering places that have actually been around for ages. This place has apparently been open for well over a decade, but last week was my first vIsit here. Came in last Thursday with my second family. Five adults with one baby. We were warmly greeted by two friendly men who fixed up a table right smack in the middle. Apps: Calamari (not pictured) Everyone were such savages. The plate was cleared before I realized I hadn't gotten a shot. Baked brie with roasted garlic Both were great, but if I had to pick one the baked brie was superior between the two. I forgot what the other 3 people had, but my seatmate and I went halfsies. He got the lobster ravioli and I got the scampi limon. We both ate half a portion of our plate then switched. Needless to say, both our plates were wiped clean. Between the two, my choice was more my palate preference. We ended up having two bottles of Opolo merlot. Dessert ended up being random. We actually didn't plan on getting any, but after our server gave us the choices we ended up getting three. The tiramisu was my favorite. The crème brûlée was decent. I forget what the third one we got was. Ended my meal with a cappuccino because that's what you're supposed to have at the end of an Italian feast 10/10 I've been missing out. read more

I enjoy their specials- this time around my husband got a lobster pasta... very yummy! This was our first time here so maybe it was just an off night and we wouldn't know. The interior is a little nicer in person than what some of the pictures here had led me to believe. It smelled very nice inside. It was Saturday evening when we decided to give Lucerne a try. We had no reservations but they found us a table in what we thought was a reasonable amount of time. They seem to run this restaurant different than others. The floor staff all seemed to have different jobs and you don't have a "server" in the conventional sense. The first time we met who I assumed was our waiter (which was more than 10 minutes after we were seated) the first words out of his mouth were "Are you ready to order?" No pleasantries. No telling of specials. Just straight to business. Sure, it was Saturday night so they're busy, but there was an empty table next to us the entire time and it's not that big a restaurant. Note that we didn't see this person again until he brought the check. Other people brought drinks, food, etc. My wife ordered a glass Prosecco. It comes in a split (single serving bottle). It was flat - completely flat. I had noticed that the bottle was opened before it was brought to the table. I'm not sure why it was flat and won't make assumptions, but certainly the staff pouring her glass knew to expect a bubbly beverage and should have realized this was not right. Once flagged down, it was replaced. My glass of Merlot was very nice. We waited a very long time for our food to come out. Somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes from ordering. Number of interactions with restaurant staff between getting drinks and food - Zero. No one checking on us. No assurances that our meals are coming out soon. Just...nothing. Once we did get our food, it was just okay. I had chicken parmesan. It was just an unseasoned grilled chicken breast covered in a bland red sauce with a side of penne Alfredo. And no one checked back in with us after serving the food to make sure everything was right. Inattentive service is a big pet peeve of mine. The next time we interacted with someone from the restaurant, they were clearing plates. We were very surprised by the number of 5 star reviews here. I really wanted to like this place but we were just underwhelmed. read more

I wanted to like Lucerne. The ambiance is very good and you forget you are in a strip mall. The staff is friendly and engaging. The wine list is extensive and has some hidden gems for the wine affecionado. The menu is extensive and has all of the red tablecloth favforites. My dissappointment was the Eggplant Parmasan. It arrives smothered in the house red sauce. Somothered or buried is the best I can do as a description. The delicated eggplant never had a chance. I will returrn and give Lucerne another chance because I really want them to do well. I hope the kitchen can live up to my expectations. read more

A quaint, small, unassuming wonderful restaurant! Only 14 tables, and on an August Tuesday night, more than half were filled with obvious local return customers. What makes this ristorante so special is not only that the food is authentic and delicious, but that the owner and his son are the waiters. They pay close attention to the best service. Very rude staff. My family went to eat here and ordered our food. We were only served coffee when we suddenly had to leave due to a medical emergency. The waiter ran after us demanding we pay for the food we never received. I tried to explain but he started yelling and taking pictures of our car. We promised to come back and pay but he was so rude. After spending a few hours in the Emergency Room we went back and paid. I still couldn't believe that they were so petty and put their money over someone's life. We never got our food! Why would we want to eat it after all that? The place stinks of fish too. This happened about a year ago but I never forgot how my family was treated. read more

Lucerne is our town favorite. I do wish they had more Gluten free options but if you're not sick of GF penne, pairing it with the bolognese sauce is nothing short of wonderful. My husband gets spaghetti with the bolognese and it's amazing. If you want take out and GF penne is not your thing, you can take home the bolognese sauce in a quart and make your own pasta at home. I do this often and it's the ultimate comfort food. The inside is small, cute and has a-lot of ambiance. Great restaurant! read more

While visiting my sister in Camarillo during her work trip, I gave her three options of places for dinner. She chose Italian and I was excited given the stellar reviews and ratings for Lucerne. A few things turned me off from start to finish: - The location is in the corner of a strip mall with a large vacant store next door. Totally fine given that most 'hole in the wall/mom n pop' restaurants are the best. Sadly the interior was a bit dated and extremely warm to where it was almost unbearable. - The staff was pleasant to us but not overly friendly nor attentive. One of the waiters was nicer and more smiley than the other. It seemed that the majority of the tables were regulars so they really catered to them. Our waiter seemed a bit put off that we didn't order wine but all the options by the glass were basic wine you could find at CostCo for the same price as the whole bottle. - We ordered the bruschetta appetizer ($14), which they pleasantly split into two plates. It was literally one narrow slice of toast with feta cheese, warm chopped tomatoes, and capers. Not impressive nor flavorful. Next our entrees came out--but they forgot about the salads until I mentioned it half way through our entrees. I will say that the pasta is done right here. The Mushroom Ravioli was in an extremely flavorful cream sauce and stuffed full of cheese. The Gnocchi Lucerne was also tasty with a non-acidic marinara sauce, good sized pieces of chicken, and roasted mushrooms. I feel as though this review is more of a rant of dissatisfaction. The waiter did bring us a complementary tiramisu which was a sweet gesture--perhaps due to the forgotten salads. However, the cherry on top was the table of three cranky elderly women. One complained that they shouldn't call it Lobster Ravioli if it barely contains any actual pieces of lobster. When the second lady was asked about a take-home box, she said "no thank you, I didn't like my meal." The third lady ate her entire entree with no complaints and tried to mediate. Unfortunately, the first lady was not giving in on her lobster ravioli the second time the waiter came around saying to not recommend it to any other tables. The waiter unprofessionally said "If you don't like our food, don't come back." There may be more history than I know but a waiter should never treat any customer, especially an elder, with such disrespect. Either way, I wouldn't come back here given all of the other nearby establishments. Sadly the tiramisu was also a disappointment too. While heavily on the rum and espresso end, the texture was somewhat dry. :/ read more

Tucked away in the K-Mart and Vons parking lot, this classic oh-so-romantic Italian restaurant is a bit like finding a treasure trove in Camarillo. As you pull into the plaza, you are likely skeptical that you are will be experiencing fine dining in a few short minutes. Yet, here you are! As you enter in through the foyer, the wine wall welcomes you. From there it reveals a charming and romantic space with white tablecloths and candles. There is about 15 tables in the cozy open dining room. The wait staff is attentive from start to finish. You will begin with the large wine menu that includes a limited selection of beers, soft drinks and juices. (The wine menu can be found on their website.) They offer both by the glass and bottles at a variety of price points. There are some good selections depending on the type of wine and region you fancy. The adorable waiter or waitress will be back shortly to talk about the evening's specials. Piping hot complimentary bread will arrive to the table too. The menu offers hot and cold appetizers of soups, salads and traditional Italian favorites. The main entrees are pasta, chicken and fish. I especially like the canneloni and rigatoni milano. There is also a tasting menu and dinner for two deal. About 10 minutes later generous without the Mount Rushmore will arrive. Have you saved room for dessert? After you've completed your entrees, another waiter or waitress will arrive with a large silver tray to tempt you. It might include creme brulee, carrot cake, chocolate cake, lemon cake and some form of custard. They also offer classics like gelato and cannolis. After you make your selection, a plate of gorgeous to share with at least three people will arrive. The entrees are between $12-25. Reservations are accepted via opentable.com. Decided to give this restaurant a try! it was highly rated on Yelp so figured why not! Its local so lets try it. I booked last minute and luckily they were able to take us on a Friday. Its a small restaurant, I would say they probably had 10 tables. our guests took awhile until they arrived and the servers kept coming back to ask us if they were coming etc and I thought that was annoying! Yes, I understand that are there but really we are waiting for 2 more and its not great but coming every few minutes is very annoying! tried two of their appetizers, the Siracha shrimp is a must try! Buffalo mozzarella is good too. Their bread was reallllly good! had their Chicken piccata and it was good, definitely had more lemon than other ones I have tried but nonetheless still good. My fiancé had their Risotto de la casa and it was good. We had leftover and when it was warmed up more, it tasted better.
