The Baseline: For a Mexican restaurant the flavors of the food must make use of the prime Mexican ingredients (corn, beans, chiles, rice, cheese, and meats), preparation of sauces/salsas, the meal portion size must make me feel full, and feeling of the restaurant must give me the feeling of a Mexican restaurant. Food: Lucha Libre had some very good flavors for their offerings. The Champion Nachos were great with chicken and the sauce almost had a mole rather than chipotle taste (5 out of 5). The tacos were all well done and they had great presentation and taste (4 out of 5; average). The Burritos are bricks of delicious Mexican flavor wrapped into a tight blanket of tortilla (5 out of 5). Service: Self order kiosk to make ordering easy. Great service from the staff delivering food. Ambiance: Mexican Wrestler vibes, feels, and decor makes me happy to eat Mexican food here. The restaurant was inviting and clean. Clean bathroom and the patio was well maintained. Parking in the adjacent lot is easy if you can find a space and you need to pay attention to what spaces are designated to which business.

My wife's grandma watched the luchadors (wrestlers) on television and it was always entertaining. She saw Lucha Libre's entire theme was to pay homage to Mexico's luchadors and they didn't disappoint. We paid for the champions table and it was a lot of fun The food js also delicious. I got the birria (meat) burrito, some rolled tacos, and bean burritos and it was great. The salsa was on point, too! The chips were fresh and there were plenty for all six of us. I highly recommend. The merch is also some of the best!

Have you ever eaten with golden utensils and fancy plateware at a wrestling themed taco shop? Book the Champs Booth online and you'll get a one of a kind SD experience - the velvet ropes guarding the huge gold sequined table will be swept aside, and you and your entourage can feast like garañones, starting with eating chips and salsa straight from the massive golden trophy at the center of the table. The booth itself is golden too with massive diamond studs and the best view of both the luchadores hall of fame wall and the TV showing nonstop lucha action. Food is decent here - especially appreciated is the variety and quality of the salsa bar, as well as the freshness of the aguas frescas. But the Champs Booth is something special, serving up the VIP taco shop experience you never knew you needed.

Birria Quesa Taco ($6.25) - The Birria was so tender, juicy, and flavorful. I loved how spicy it was, too. I definitely preferred this taco and would get it again. Surf & Turf Taco ($7.50) - I'm usually a fan of a chipotle crema, but it overpowered the steak and shrimp here. Adding their Dragon Salsa, which was so delicious and spicy, balanced the chipotle crema well.

First stop on impromptu staycation w/ both kiddos--who r hard to please. Call the Vatican, ya'll. If you don't see a mess on the table, it's because the kids ate it all which is a DAMN. miracle. Ours is a 4 different dinner household. Street corn? Hell yes Kids meals that taste like adult Yummies? YAAAAP. VIP booth just cuz? Why the hell not Legit service that was fast & hot? BOOM. Perfect stop for a family meal especially a quick one to please your insanely picky kids, and a hungry bear of a dad. Decor: ON POINTE. The only negative thing I could say Is that now I have to take my kids to a real Lucha Libre match, which in all honesty ain't no negative at all. Dos thumbs ALL THE WAY UUP! P.S.-Just get the damn Horchata. I accept tips via Venmo and Zelle. You're welcome.

Solid 4.5 First and foremost, the ambience is unique and memorable. The pink Lucha Libre-themed decor really stands out and gives the place a fun vibe. The tacos were great. Meat was tender, well-seasoned, and juicy. The only downside was the creamy sauce. There was a bit too much of it and it slightly overpowered the flavors. Prices are on the higher side at about $6-7 per taco, but the quality is there. The salsa bar was a standout with tons of unique and flavorful options. Overall, a great spot to hit if you're in the area and want good tacos with a fun atmosphere. Would definitely come back.

I like lucha libre, most things here are good and the free chips are a plus. The constantly changing menu though is an annoyance however, they used to have tj dogs they used to have enchiladas, they used to have bottled Jamaica aqua Fresca drinks and they constantly have "limited time" menu items sometimes they bring back the enchiladas as a limited time item It's a little frustrating since some stuff will become a new "favorite item" only to be gone next time I visit and sometimes permanently. The champion fries (basically their version of carne asada fries) now have chipotle sauce on it which "isn't bad" but again another random change I don't think was needed for an already great menu item. Take my feedback or don't. The art decor and the bathrooms are memorable and it's a good spot for dining with friends, the champion booth requires a reservation

Had tacos in San Diego all weekend and these were probably the best tacos I had. I ordered the quesabirria tacos and they were soooo juicy and tasty. I absolutely loved the vibes and the whole aesthetic of the restaurant. Every single wall was decorated with Lucha Libre pictures, even the ceiling and the bathroom! As you enter, you order on the kiosk, grab a letter, and wait for your food. You then pick up your food at the counter once your letter is called. Very little interaction between customers and employees. Would definitely check this place out again whenever I find myself in San Diego!

Came on a Monday night and the service was quick and food came out fast. We got the TJ corn, adohaba taco, and surf and turf taco. I will say this place is really overrated. The decor is cool. Too bad the food couldn't be good. Also felt like ther's no real vibe here. You don't interact with staff, they only bring your food to your table and then your on your own. And the girl who brought the food to the table just set it down and turned around. Feels like more grab and go. Also the food is extremely over priced here. I paid $17.00 for the worst Birria nachos I've ever had and then the girl brings me chips. I'm having nachos, why would you bring me more chips?! And there was alot of birria on there but barely any toppings. I felt like i was swimming in salt mouth. Just simply awful.

Honestly my surf n turf burrito was mediocre. Like super mediocre. This place was recommended to me and while the cali surf n turf was supposed to be the jam - the regular was supposed to be good as well. The meat was good, and it was still fresh and solid. But I finished this thing - for $19, as a 120lb female who does not eat much I should not be able to finish a burrito. In SF and other places in SD, a burrito that costs that much or less I can barely finish half of. Not bad, but disappointing for sure. read more

Stopped by this place after climbing at Sender One, and I was amazed. The food here is worth driving through LA traffic for, especially the mini tacos starter I got. Our server was amazing, extremely helpful, and kind. Her name completely slipped my mind, but she helped me pick what to get without rushing me, and making sure that I won't be disappointed. Crazy. Yes Mexican wrestling theme lol. Well they sure do get busy! We were able to snag a table though. Good was alright. I got the seafood burrito. It was good. The interesting thing about this tiny joint is they have a solo table that offers full service waiter with large goblets, hats, masks, gold booth with rope. So random so funny. Excellent ambiance and theme, this alone deserves a visit. I had the surf and turf taco with a side of rice and beans. The house salsa was good, the hotter salsa was better. The beef was very tasty, so much that I'd get the burrito next time. Seating available in side and out, no a/c so outside is popular with the ocean breeze. Parking is tough, you need to park in the market lot. This is an above average taco shop with good service, good food, and a great theme. If you have visitors it is a must go for great photos and experience. read more

Lucha Libre! A San Diego classic. I cannot believe it's been 13 years since I've last been here. Location is in downtown SD close to the airport. There's a parking lot right next door so you don't have to fight for street parking. I ordered the Surfin California burrito with steak which came out to $18. Yikes - definitely a bit pricey! The burrito was delicious, tortilla crispy and warm, steak was juicy and seared, but the portion size was very small for $18. The salsa bar is fantastic and you get free chips with your meal. You need to try the mango salsa! It is the star of the salsa bar in my humble opinion and paired beautifully with the chips and burrito. read more

I hadn't been to this place in over ten years but it's still just as fun as I remember. The inside is all decked out in wrestling themed decor including pictures, a bell, wrestling playing on the televisions, and wrestling masks all over the walls. I remember the burritos being a bit bigger but that's okay. I ordered a Birria California burrito and champion fries with chicken. The birria burrito was delicious. The meat was tender and juicy and the sauce added some heat. The fries weren't amazing in the burrito but the added a nice starch that filled me up a lot. The champion fries were okay. We got guac and beans on the side as I'm allergic to guac and my husband prefers no beans. I like that they have the option for things on the side however the fries weren't my favorite compared to other Mexican restaurants. They weren't super flavorful or crispy and didn't have a lot of meat. The salsa bar is definitely a big plus for this place. The creamy cilantro sauce is so good and the house sauce was also very delicious with chunks of tomato and mango I think. I love that it's a self serve salsa bar so you can get as much sauce as you need. They also give you a serving of chips which are nice and hot. Definitely a perfect place to stop by if you're near the airport. read more

Parking in this area seemed like slim pickings but we managed to parallel park right in front of the business. Fast casual service where you order at the counter and they will call your number when ready. The place has a fun aesthetic with their wall decorations but it was warm in there, so we sat in the covered area out front. We ordered 3 tacos and the surfin Cali burrito. The salsa bar was a nice touch to go with the chips that came with my meal. The salsa verde was my favorite and I put it on my burrito too. The surfin Cali burrito was tasty and the tacos were ok. The bill came out to $55 for the food and 2 drinks. The food was good, but for a fast casual burrito place, it was nowhere near $55 good. read more

I was waiting near the airport before my flight and found this taco place nearby... so glad I came! I ordered the birria quesadilla and wow... it was so juicy and flavorful, every single bite hit. Easily one of the best I've had. My friend got the tacos which looked amazing too. Prices for tacos can run a little high if you usually order a lot, but the quesadilla was super reasonable and came with plenty of pieces, so definitely worth it. (Dining in- you get complimentary chips but no salsa, just a heads up.) The place is decorated with retro Nacho Libre-style decor that was interesting to admire while eating. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient which is exactly what you want when you're hungry before a flight. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in San Diego to try more from the menu read more

Let me tell you once in a while, I just need that seafood blackened mahi burrito that one can only get here!(I think) No pics of them, I didn't wanna show the bite marks... I've honestly been stuck on this menu item for years, even when they had the satellite location at Sycuan casino that eventually shut down. Don't get me wrong, I have had other items for sure. Just hard to steer clear of that burrito. Tacos of all types, as they are super innovative here. Rolled tacos are very tasty I do recall. I do remember a TJ hot dog that vanished off the menu a while back, which I loved. Shoot. These times they are a changin' but we can gotta get used to change right? For sure, still many creative items on menu to be had. They have been an icon at many events too. Definitely have to acknowledge them as one of the pioneers of new age style taco shops, and the idea has been copied now at many places. Lucha libre is definitely going to be my go to spot when I come to San Diego. The birria nachos were top notch and a must try. Service was friendly and pretty quick. It's official, reality TV is complete bullshit!!! Pauly D is a horrible DJ, Kate Gosselin should have been sterilized, and Adam Richman is dirty rotten liar. Who would have thought that a chubby Jewish guy from New York would be untrustworthy??? I happened to be in the area and I had really been looking forward to trying the Surfin' California Burrito. I decided to take a late night drive from my hotel room to Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop. The drive was kind of out of the way so the inconvenience coupled with anticipation only added to my eventual disappointment. After finding some parking, which wasn't easy, I walked the gauntlet of drunk, stupid, obnoxious, college kids to wait in line for what I thought was a meal which would be worth the trouble. Even at midnight there was line. Of course it doesn't help that all the orders are taken on fucking iPads and iPhones (or iPod Touch). Why not just use a traditional cash register? All the employees look frustrated by the goddamn trendy Apple products they were being forced to use and it only created confusion. Considering the size of the crowd, the place was really understaffed, so the poor girl at the counter seemed flustered and was mildly rude. I can't say I blame her, having to deal with a high volume of customers, another employee who looked lost and that stupid fucking iPad. Adding to the whole shitty experience was the fact that the place is tiny and cramped. I was lucky enough to find a really uncomfortable spot to sit in, but every time I got up to fill my drink or get salsa I bumped in to some unfortunate patron. The one person I didn't bump into was some douche bag wannabe punker who was with a young child. Who the fuck takes a toddler with them to get tacos in the middle of the night??? Put that fucking kid to bed throw away your leather studded wrist band and get a job... The one pleasant surprise I did have was that my food came out very quickly. That joy was very shortly lived and was actually probably part of the problem. I ordered the Surfin' California Burrito and it was absolutely terrible. The burrito, which was featured on Man vs. Food, contains grilled steak, shrimp, fresh french fries, avocado, pico de gallo, cheese, & "super secret" chipotle sauce (if it's such a big secret how did the folks at Taco Bell get ahold of the recipe???) When I bit into the burrito I instantly tasted something cold and slimy. As I continued to eat I realized the fries were not even cooked!!! What the fuck? No way was I going to complain to the already overwhelmed girl at the counter. I just continued to eat the burrito hoping it would get better. It didn't. All the flavors in the burrito were completely overwhelmed by the chipotle sauce. To add insult to injury they were out of the creamy cilantro salsa they are famous for and didn't seem overly concerned with filling the metal container back up. This is only the second 1 star review I've given out. A restaurant has to fail miserably in order for me to rate it as such. Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop failed in every conceivable way that a restaurant could. I can only attribute the crowd and favorable reviews to hype. TV is a powerful medium, and if TV says something is good it must be. I'm sure I'll get a ton of angry responses for this review, but I have to be truthful. On my most recent visit, I decided to go all out and ordered a mahi-mahi burrito, a veggie burrito, some potato tacos, and fish tacos. Every bite was a flavor explosion, and I left with a full belly and a huge smile on my face. Oh, and I couldn't resist grabbing a couple of bags of chips to munch on later - they were the perfect little extra. Now, a little heads up - parking around Lucha Libre can be a bit of a challenge. The immediate vicinity doesn't have a ton of parking, but there are more spots just down the street. It's a minor inconvenience, but definitely something to keep in mind when planning your visit. All in all, Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop is an absolute gem of a restaurant that I can't recommend enough. I frequent the UCSD medical center/Hillcrest area often and always pass by this place. I always see a huge line of people waiting to dine at Lucha Libre, especially at peak hours. Not only that, two friends whose opinions I trust have raved about Lucha Libre and insisted that I go there. So I finally went there today around 4:30. We got REALLY lucky with the line. There was no line, so we ordered immediately. Then by the time we finished ordering, a line of 10 people had already formed behind us. The decoration was pretty cool. They had luchador masks around the whole restaurant, along with various art featuring...luchadores. And the menu items are also wresting themed, like KNOCKOUT and CHAMPION fries. I wasn't too crazy about the free chips they gave, but the salsa from the bar was pretty damn good. I got the Surfin' California burrito and all I gotta say is WOW. They certainly didn't skimp out on the carne asada. And there was a good amount of shrimp as well (hence the surf and turf part of this burrito). I liked that the french fries were the thick cut ones, not the typical thin, previously frozen fries that almost all cheap restaurants serve. And to top it all off, the pico de gallo was crazy delicious and they even added fresh avocado. My ONLY gripe? One bite and the whole burrito unraveled. I mean, I managed to salvage it and eat the burrito whole with minor difficulty. But it came to a point where I dumped the tortilla and had my own mini "champion fries". I'm sure the guy who made it was probably making it super fast, since there were droves of people waiting for their food as well. It's nothing too big. read more

This is a fun restaurant to be at. After seeing this place on Man Vs. Food on the Food Network, my friend and I decided to check it out. The first time we went, we had to wait about 20 minutes in line since it was right around the typical lunch time on a Sunday. We couldn't find a parking spot at first, so we ended up parking up on a really steep hill in the surrounding neighborhood. It turned out to be a good work out after lunch and burned off a few calories walking up that gargantuan hill. It made our thighs cry in pain. We both ordered the Surfin' California burrito. It was a monster that tasted like heaven. The shrimp were cooked just right and the beef wasn't too chewy either. We both couldn't finish our own so we ended up taking the left over home. The salsa bar provided a good variety and mixes. I just wished that they labeled what each thing was. We just went back for the second time a few days ago. I ended up getting the Champion Fries. The circular container definitely weighed about 5 pounds. Before I saw it, I was so hungry to the point that I could've actually finished a whole burrito by myself. But after I saw and held the behemoth platter, my jaw just dropped and already started to feel full. It was pretty good too, but it would've been better if they had piled on all the ingredients in layers, not in separated sections. There will definitely be a next time because my friend and I want to sit at the gold booth. Gotta remember to make a reservation 24 hours before the visit. read more

Wonderful staff and delicious food! My favorite taco shop burrito. Seriously, the best taco shop food you will ever have!!! Salsa is amazing too!!! The line is long but it goes by fast-- and is totally worth it. Really awesome staff too!!! The only thing that makes me debate whether or not to go here on my lunch hour is the parking situation... There is a little lot by it and it has parking for Lucho Libre & other shops, then spaces exclusively for this liquor store. However, the Lucho Libre spaces are always taken, and the liquor store KID YOU NOT has a whole team of parking patrollers who won't let you park in their space even if you are just getting something quick to-go. One time, one of their parking-police actually found me ALREADY IN LINE at Lucho Libre and made me move my car... And I totally lost my place in line. I was pissed. And I was going to get something TO-GO, was only going to be in the spot for like 5 minutes... Lucho Libre, you are amazing, but your aggressive neighbors constantly taint the experience. BTW- no one even goes to the liquor store- it's usually empty so why are they being so selfish with their parking spots?? Be a good neighbor and share!!! I will no longer go to Lucho Libre if I can't park, or if I get chased out of line again. Lucho Libre- I love you, you deserve a place with more square footage, better location, more parking, and more supporting neighbors. You should change locations or expand. I love you, you can do it!! One of the things I love most about Lucha Libre is the wide variety of vegetarian and pescatarian options available, which makes it a great spot for people with dietary restrictions. Mon evening 4:30 - called in to-go purchase. Chilli Relleno and veggie soup. The gal said it'd get ready in 15 mins. Settled exactly 15 mins later, came and spot the spot wasn't busy, nobody inside the tavern, just a few tables had people seated. Sweet - I'll take and out in no time. Sat down seriously to delay within the chairs by the entrance with another couple. Waited, waited and waited. Not planning to get cold food like other reviewers reported here on yelp, I stood up a few times to have the attention, made eye contact. After 25 mins, I literally quit a waiter to inquire about my order ultimately. One other waiting couple chimed in saying they'd been waiting quite a while too. He quit and in about 5 mins delivered with your food. After I got inside the vehicle - COOL! Yes,,, it had been resting there for 25 mins. Take-out is definitely not just a priority. I'm altering my score to three stars since the day after publishing this critique, I received a message in the seller. She said she would tackle this and was extremely apologetic along with her mgrs. It was genuine and I prefer to feel that most people are performing their best. Maybe I only emerged on the time if the staff was not at their best. Apology accepted and I appreciate the email - it reveals that the owner does care, flows yelp evaluations, and listens. read more

I have lived in San Diego for a very long time. This is the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. I have eaten all sorts from everywhere around San Diego, and several places in Mexico. The food is phenomenal. I wish I had heard about this place long ago, but only recently visited after Man Vs. Food did a piece on the restaurant. The food is fantastic. They have a surfin' California, which is a hybrid between a surf and turf and a California burrito. The shrimp and steak is cooked perfectly. The meat is so tender and the shrimp succulent, not to mention that the food is so tasty. I read a few of the less than five stars about this restaurant, and they sound like snobs. Some people want to complain about everything. Maybe there are better places in Mexico. I haven't been there in years. It is far and dangerous to go (debatable I know). A burrito isn't "true" Mexican food. They're T.J. hot dog is the only place I know where you can buy those without having to go to Mexico and buy it from a street vendor. All that being said, Hands down the best Mexican restaurant that I have ever eaten at. Lucha Libre, I am a fan. By the way. If you plan on going, call 24 hours in advance and reserve the champions table. Trust me. read more

If you're looking for some of the best California burritos in San Diego, Lucha Libre is a must-visit spot. I used to frequent this place before the pandemic, and I must say, their surfin' California burrito is an absolute delight! The combination of shrimp, carne asada, and fries is a match made in heaven. I was first introduced to this burrito on an episode of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, and it did not disappoint. One thing I appreciate about Lucha Libre is that each burrito comes with chips, which is great because their salsa bar is expansive. I highly recommend trying their cream cilantro salsa, which is my absolute favorite. Their mango salsa is a close runner-up and is equally delicious. Even though I haven't been to Lucha Libre in recent years, I used to make it a point to visit every time I came to San Diego. However, I have heard that the quality has gone down a bit, but I cannot confirm this firsthand. Nonetheless, I am looking forward to trying it out again soon when I have the chance. 1/5 My friends and I decided to stop here during our road trip. The store looked awesome i really like the theme. now for the food and customer service part. I ordered a veggie quesadilla and it was ok, but i've had better. I thought it would come with some secret special sauce to out do the other regular quesadillas.. instead i had to drown mine with the side sauces at the sauce bar. i probably should've have ordered something else, but my friends thought it was okay. customer service..horriiible.. they seemed like they hated working there. i've worked at retail and restaurants and i know i'm representing the restaurant, so i atleast try and not be rude to the customers.. i had a question about the place because...well..i'm a tourist..i wanted to know..I asked the red headed lady,she just looked at me and turned away.and i was kind of upset but i let it go. through out the hang out and talking with my friends she was just staring at us like she wanted us to leave .just the whole experience would've been better if the employees weren't so damn rude.. 1out of 3 employees was nice.he was wearing a hat..so congrats! read more

I am still traumatized by the vomit inducing appearance of the disgusting tasting carne asada fries I received here over 3 years ago. I got a burrito that day also and I distinctly remember taking a bite, being disgusted by it as well, then giving all of it to some hobo's who hang around outside. I think they know its bad food and they get free food that way all the time as they were in fact plump hobo's. Anyway I was so irritated because I waited in line for so long. It always has a line and everyone loves it. I was so excited, then my smile (when i got it) turned into a sad face when I saw how awful it looked. I waited a while in that line for the crap joke of Mexican food they serve up and people love it for some ungodly reason. I still don't get it. Every time I drive buy it I see a line and always think WHAT THE FVCK should i try it again? NOPE fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...blah blah blah imma sucker if i do it again right? I had bought 2 or 3 items that day. I took one bite and literally gave them to hobo's who didn't seem excited to get it even. I DID like the decore, that was about it. read more

On a Saturday night, my family and I visited this restaurant with high expectations due to its positive Yelp reviews. However, we were surprised to find only a few groups when we walked in. The place itself is pretty small but also really cute with a Luche Libre theme. I opted for the Classic California with steak, while the rest of my family ordered the Birria California, Poblano California, and Classic Tacos. The food arrived promptly, but I must admit that I was underwhelmed. The tortilla of my burrito was disappointingly stale, and the overall texture was dry (I had to rely on salsa and lime from the salsa bar to even eat it). While my family enjoyed their meals, finding them more flavorful and saucy, they agreed that none of the dishes were particularly noteworthy. Furthermore, we found the tacos to be quite small for their $4 price tag, leading us to feel that the overall cost of the meal outweighed the quality provided. Personally, I would rate my food experience a 2/5, but considering my family's satisfaction, I am giving this place an overall rating of 3/5. read more

I used De Anza Dentistry and Dr. Akef to fix an implant problem caused by another dentist. I had an implant done by the original general dentist a year before which became loose so went back to see what the problem was. The original dentist then tightened the crown but it became loose again after a few hours. I then went to De Anza Dentistry. Dr. Akef said he wanted to know what was going on so took the crown off. He saw a problem right away. The crown was missing a critical component which was the main cause of the loosening and rotation He was very patient in explaining the situation until I was comfortable with moving forward. During the process he noticed there was extra gum that would prevent the new crown from sitting properly which he felt could be problematic. In a matter of minutes, he then fixed that before placing and securing the new crown. The new crown has been fine as I don't notice it at all. I'm glad I went to De Anza Dentistry. They were very professional and made sure the implant and crown was done correctly. The prices were also reasonable. read more

I'm giving this place 3 stars because it's really an awkward location and they really have almost no parking around here... the parking is overly difficult so they should really shut this location down and open up much much BIGGER location in a better place but besides that I think they have some of the best salsa selection of any and all taco shops, and the food for the most part is pretty delicious sometimes their burritos are soggy but the concept of the restaurant is cute, one downside is they blast the music if you sit inside so you might be too uncomfortable on the inside, plus it's incredibly cramped so you won't have any Elbow Room this place, iTS better if you take it to go but maybe one day they will close this location down and open one up in a better spot.. I know they do have other locations around San Diego but this particular place should be shut down and they need to move it to a HUGE Warehouse because they could pack it every day as there is a line down the sidewalk on most every day.....good luck to you..... read more

I was sitting at home the other day watching TV and the episode of Diners Drive Ins and Dives was on where they show Lucha Libre. It looked so good I got off of my couch the second it was over to head on over and grab one of their excellent burritos. A lot of times I come here it is really busy and I have to wait in line for a long time but this time it wasn't busy at all (maybe this is because it was about 8pm on a Tuesday). I mulled over the menu for a bit and decided to go with the surf n turf burrito. It came out fairly quick (within 5 minutes) and I dove right into it immediately. My first few bites had a lot of shrimp and steak, however as I got further into my burrito I was having some bites where there wasn't a single piece of shrimp or steak. Maybe they were low on stuff since it was so late but it definitely left me disappointed. I will not let this ruin my overall perception of Lucha Libre. I have had more good meals than bad so I will definitely be coming back again (hopefully with more meat in my burrito). read more

I was super excited to try this Mexican food place out after finding it on yelp, and reading the great reviews, however I was a little disappointed. The restaurant itself is super cute with the decor and theme, but the food wasn't that great. I do have to say that I liked the decorations/theme of the restaurant though. It was fun and unique! The decorations also gave me a lot to look at while waiting in line to order... Waiting in line for this place just wasn't worth it for me. There are lots of other good places to get Mexican food in San Diego and these places have a much shorter (or even zero) wait time. Surf and turf burrito comes with guac, fries, beans cilantro, Asada, shrimp and others. Just remember it contains shellfish! Seating is also tight but by the time you order and get your food seats should open up. If you want to sit at the champions table, which is roped off, then you just gave to reserve the table 24 hrs in advance, and you get waiter service. It's a lot faster. read more

Lucha Libre..... Stopped by the other day when I was in SD (as usual) but I wasn't feeling too hungry. My bf and I were expecting to eat dinner soon and it was almost 4pm when we got here. There was no line and we were craving the Surfin California. We split one. Then split another one. Then another, then got another for breakfast/lunch the next day. Yeah, we got 4. And we ate all of it. Every bite was amazing as always. If you haven't tried Lucha Libre, you're missing the hell out. No joke. I love the salsa bar. The creamy garlic/cilantro sauce goes with anything. Green sauce is delish; very limey and refreshing. Parking sucks cuz you can't park in the market lot. I usually end up street parking right in front which is super convenient but sucks cuz it's downhill. It's right by the freeway so people are always speeding by so you gotta be careful. Otherwise, there's a ton of meter parking across the street but I live in LA and I'm cheap and hate paying for parking. read more

I recently signed up to be a Big Brother and my little is tad older than most in the program. (He's 14) Before our first meetup I could tell he was a little reluctant to be involved so I had to rack my brain for an activity that was subtle and screamed "This is gonna be fun kiddo." What better than eating burrito's the size of your head right? He dug the Mexican wrestler theme and the fact that Lucha was featured on Man Vs. Food. Pretty sure the fact that he macked down on a whole surf and turf despite just having his braces tightened means that he's pretty fond of the food too. It was great icebreaking atmosphere for a kid who's probably not too thrilled about having to be in something like BBBS, but I think the fact that I brought him here started us off on the right foot as buds. I've always been a fan of the grub, but after this last visit to Lucha I've got a new respect. If you ever want a 14 year old to think you're cool this is a good start. read more
