Updating my review from 2006. Unfortunately, I'm dropping a star. It's not because of the food-the pizza is still great-but ever since Tony (the owner) retired, Lucia Pizza is unable to manage the busy hours efficiently with customers coming in and out of shop. Sometimes I'm waiting 10 minutes just to get a slice or two. Sometimes I'm waiting just to put in my order. Tony had an incredible way of using his brain to calculate prices as well as to manage and remember everyones order. The older gentleman in the front now will have to build up some years of experience to try and match the way Tony managed things. read more

Best place in the area for real NY style pizza. It's a hole in the wall, with about 5 stools facing a mirror, and otherwise you have to stand. But it's really hard trying to find a place that sells actual NY style pizza. Most places now try to make their pizza too fancy and complicated. This is the place you can go to for a fresh slice of just plain or pepperoni pizza where it's full of sauce and cheese. Lucia's pizzas are the thin-crust, non-mass-produced kind that is a trademark of New York-style pizza. Is it gourmet? Not at all. But that's why I love Lucia's. There is a lot to unfold about this place. It's very small and not much room to sit/stand. It gets packed sometimes so it's a hassle to get a spot to eat or you could go to the place next to it and eat there. The viejo owner is rude. A pepperoni is $3.15 and I gave him $3.05 by accident. He gives me an attitude about 10 cents. Like hello viejito you should live a little. Sometimes I order delivery and the pizza won't come until an hour later. Once the delivery guy actually dropped the pizza box but I let it slide since the box didn't open up. Overall: service is not that good here. Some of you don't care about service and only care about the food. Well, Lucia pizza has the best pizza hands down. I have been to a lot of pizza places (some out of the country) but my heart belongs to this place. Also, I've been coming here ever since I was a kid so I'm very attached to this place. Very good pizza! This is my first time trying NY pizza. I grew up in the midwest and now live on the west coast and I hear all the NY style pizza in midwest and west coast is all wrong! So now I finally got to try it and now I know why everyone raves about it. These slices are HUGE! Very oily but delicious. It's super thin crust and the cheese just falls off the pizza. I enjoyed it and I will eat it again. there's very limited seating in here though. It's bar type of seating and there's not that many. read more

This place has the best Pizza/Dough I've ever had. It's no wonder that this place has been here for decades and outlasted so many other Pizzerias during that time. It's tiny joint right by the busy Flushing area as you get off the 7 train. Prices are reasonable and everything is made quickly so customers can leave quickly. So why do I only give 2 stars when I know I'll be back again and again? Their service simply sucks and they get orders wrong about third of the time. When you tell them about it, they get an attitude. I'm not talking about the older gentleman in the front. It's the younger guys in the back that gets the order mixed up. I understand that it's busy most of the time but when you get your order mixed up, don't take it out on the customers. So to sum up, if you're in a rush and getting a plain slice or two, this place is for you. If you want slices or pies with specific toppings, don't get surprised if you end up with wrong toppings with extra side of "just take it" attitude. read more

Since i work in Flushing, i get to eat diff stuff from chinese, fast food, pizza, and etc for lunch. I come to Lucia about once or twice a month. Each time i eat there, i m satisfied with fresh pizza at decent price. I have been living in New York City for most of my life. I have also eaten at many different pizza places from the high end (pizza covered in truffle oil) to the low (dollar slices). Having said this, I feel like I have a good base on which to base an awesome New York City slice. Lucia's Pizza is centrally located right next to the seven train. It's a hole in the wall with a handful of stools for seating area. When it is busy, which it almost always is, you can eat standing up at the counter. Unlike most pizza places where pies sit behind plexiglass, Lucia's does not do this. In fact they can't. They are so popular that pizza slices are basically flying out of the ovens and into customers' mouths. Okay maybe that is an exaggeration, but it's not really far from the truth. In terms of taste, Lucia's is an incredibly good slice in the $2.50 and under pizza category. Does it beat Amore's pizza, which is a bus ride away? No. But it's still good. The crust is crunchy, the cheese gooey, and the sauce is just right. This place honestly takes me back to the pizza parlors of the 80s and 90s. Also, here's a tip: eat your pizza on premises. It doesn't taste nearly as good when you walk home and eat it cold. read more

I love pizza, it's my favorite food but this just wasn't that great. I know great New York pizza and this place doesn't cut it. I don't get how there are so many raving reviews about this place. It's average pizza at best, not crazy about ever going back. I would not recommend this place to any of my friends or family. Honestly, this place has been around forever and is one of the only pizza places on main street which is why it's so busy. It's hit by major foot traffic since the train station and bus stops are right smack in front of it. This is the best pizza I've ever had. I've tried Grimaldi's and Lombardi's; they don't compare. Anyone who disagrees most likely went in on an off day. 20% of the time their slices taste quite mediocre. But when they get it right, it is ridiculously good - crispy thin crust, gooey melty cheese, and the sauce is definitely a step above other pizzerias.
