    Fried calamari

Lucio's @ Closter We had lunch at this place and everything. I mean ... everything was great. The food, service and every detail was to the point. Starting off with the warm bread and olive & eggplant spread. Then the appetizers of fried calamari - crispy & chewy with spicy sauce, eggplant rollatini (wanted more !!!!!!!) They were both very satisfying. Could have ordered more !!! The main dishes were : salmon with eggplant and zucchini, chicken Marsala with good mushrooms - not the can or cheap types, and the linguini with good clam (not canned) !!!! Every detail was fresh and well decorated instead of the regular canned food. Definitely for a special occasion. Quite pricey but worth it !!!!!

My husband and I have been dining at Lucio's since the new dedicated and proud owners took over. Every time we go, we order different specialty dishes. I have to say that the food is delicious, fresh and of high quality. The chef is always very polite, attentive and accommodating. The ambience is amazing, very entertaining and elegant. Last but certainly not least, the service is superb. I highly recommend Lucio's Restaurant for a night to always remember. One of the best restaurants in Bergen County!

Things went downhill from there. Two and a half hours for dinner is just unacceptable. The food is good, but not so good that they get a pass on the service. About 15 minutes after our party was fully seated, the waiter shows up to take our drink orders, delivers the drinks and then disappears. Someone else, the Maitre d' maybe, show up to take our order. Both appetizers and entrees were taken. About a half our later the appetizers show up. At this point, the own stops by and asks, "how's everything?". We tell him the service seems a bit slow tonight. At this point, you would think, okay, but no, things got even slower. Took at least another twenty minutes to get the entrees. While people are still eating the bus person starts clearing plates. Reaches right across the person next to me as they are bringing a fork full of food up from their plate. Extremely rude. Entrees clears about fifteen minutes later the waiter shows up to take our desert orders. He was asked to bring the check with the desert. He doesn't. Waiting over twenty minutes for coffee, a slice of cake, a slice of cheese cake and two sorbets. Really? So I ask a member of the staff to have our waiter come right away. Never shows up, but the server did come back with the coffee. The waiter finally shows up with the deserts but no check. Again we complain, this time to the Maitre 'd. Not once did anyone say, sorry it took so long.

Reservation was ready, we picked our table, and despite brutal cold weather (and door drafts every time someone walked in), service and pacing were great. Entrées were both strong: * Linguini vongole -- clean white broth, great pasta, solid portion * Pork chop with sweet/hot peppers, broccoli rabe, potatoes -- excellent chop, grilled then finished with tomato sauce and peppers (I usually prefer oil-sautéed peppers, but this still worked well) Interesting crowd difference: last time was a Friday bar crowd, this Saturday was a packed dining room and quieter bar. As soon as you walk in, you will notice the classy, chic décor of the dining area; it gives off old Hollywood vibes. I always end up having good conversations with my server haha. As soon as I sit down, I'm already in a good mood because their complimentary bread served with olive oil and butter is to die for! During all of my past visits, I've never been disappointed with a dish. They have specials so there's always something new to try on the menu. Just a heads up, they are BYOB! These are some of my personal favorites: -Chicken Francese ($23.95) - The chicken cutlet is so tender, and the chefs get the francese sauce just right. It's a perfect balance of white wine, lemon, butter, and egg. You have the option of adding one free side: (1) potatoes and vegetables OR (2) pasta (angel hair, penne, rigatoni). -Pasta Limon ($31.95) - HEAVENLY... This dish consists of angel hair pasta in a creamy sauce that's a combination of lemon, parmesan, and butter. It comes with chicken and shrimp. -Fig di Sicilia Pizza ($17.95) - This has always been my #1 favorite appetizer, but sometimes it tastes better than other days. When it's made to my liking, it's basically a thin flatbread topped with mozzarella, fig marmalade, prosciutto, and arugula. This appetizer is the reason why I started eating figs LOL -Cannoli - These are HUGE and their ricotta filling is absolutely delicious! I have to roll myself out the door after eating here! Good thing I work out.

The appetizers we ordered were perfect shareable bites and so delicious. The homemade focaccia was light and crispy. Perfectly toasted! This comes at the start of your meal for all of the tables. I loved the fried calamari, burrata and prosciutto, and the pear salad. I was most intrigued with the mussel flatbread appetizer. It was topped with a light buttery sauce and garlic. Very good! The meatballs were also a standout for me. In addition to an amazing start to my meal, I loved the cocktail options. From various spritz choices to Negronis, you can tell the cocktail menu was carefully crafted. Verana is known for the best chicken parmigiana. Not only did this dish deliver, but the portion size was unreal. Some of my dining party finished it. However, I have amazing leftovers for today. You have an option to get a side of homemade pasta. I went with the spaghetti. All pasta dishes are made from scratch. Other honorable mentions include the pasta normica and bolognese. Moving on to the sweet dessert options! The cappuccino's had a nice and bold coffee flavor. The pistachio gelato and apple tart were music to my ears! So fresh and really hits any sweet tooth. The tiramisu had a nice pairing of coffee flavor and cinnamon. My first dining experience at Verana will definitely not be my last. Everything is expensive so I get it but it just didn't blow my bra onto the bathroom ceiling. 260 a couple and one wasn't drinking is reasonable If anything was wow...the best bite of the night was the 10.00 fresh table side bite of mozzarella...it's the one thing we've circled back to talking about over the evening. 26 of those bites would have been way cooler and delicious...which is a good idea for next time. Clams, tasty breadcrumbs. Couldn't find a clam...with both hands, it tasted good if not a little dry just didn't really get "clam" Mozzarella sticks....tasty breadcrumbs and hot honey. But no pull. Focaccia? Over well?? Dark on All sides and only ordered bc our entree was "saucy"...plot twist...it was not. Inventive with the sausage chicken cutlet but scarpiello is supposed to be spicy, sharp...this was roasted peppers on a sausage chicken cutlet with not a drop of sauce. (We shared this, decent serving but for the price you couldn't even garnish the plate?) Chicken scarpimellow maybe ? Cocktails? Tiny and just ok, nothing to write home about and a lot of "just bc you can doesn't mean you should" I want a cocktail with alcohol not molecular gastronomy in a shot glass. The espresso martini was very good, I will give them a 9 on that. The staff was the star, friendly attentive but I can't say knowledgeable because the focaccias sole purpose was for sauce that didn't exist and she didn't come back to ask so here we are with focaccia that came out before apps for an entree that didn't need it. The worst element was that at various points the restaurant was filled with an acrid smell of burning plastic or food or something and it was very off putting but it wasn't a delicious scent. Also, for the vibes and the cost the influencer in gym shorts really throws that whole mood yes society is more casual now but gym shorts aren't really appropriate at any restaurant with the same price point. I'd give it another shot in the future maybe just for cocktails and hand fed cheese.

Additionally, the decor feels a bit tired and could definitely use a modern refresh to match the price point. Service & Logistics The highlight of the evening was easily the service.
