Lucky Cat is one of the few food trucks I never miss when it is near. The Sliced Brisket is heavenly and I get it every time. I have a feeling they changed their Macaroni Salad since I've last tried and it's a sweeter taste. I'd skip on the mac and cheese though. Saw this food truck near my daughter's taekwondo class and wanted to try it and I must say that it was worth the curiosity! The server was very friendly and helped guide us with what we should order. We decided on their lucky cat slider trio which had the brisket, pork belly and pulled pork. They ran out of the pulled pork but they gave us the brisket instead. And let me tell you, the brisket mixed with the Hawaiian but and coleslaw was just just Heaven. Super tender, melt-in-you-mouth kinds of slider. Loved that it came with sides as well. After reading all the reviews of the food truck, we were so excited! We found the food truck location and wanted to try it out. Ordered the Mesquite salmon with their hawaiian mac and the mac and cheese. Also got the jalapeno cheddar sausage and pulled pork also. Their service was excellent-very patient as we were ordering and the wait wasn't too long. Overall, I think i just ordered the wrong things. The mesquite salmon was very very dry and I wasn't a huge fan-same thing with the pulled pork. However, the jalapeno cheddar sausage was pretty good and probably the reason why I would give this place another chance if I seek it out again. Their sides were very good also. We got the platter where you can sample lots of different stuff and added a sausage link. This was the best bbq I've ever had. The Mac and cheese was so creamy, the pork belly was cooked so perfect. Go out of your way to find this food truck! Unique barbecue influenced by Hawaii, Texas, and Korea. That mix of big flavors comes to the fore in the sides, especially the sesame-scented macaroni salad and umami-rich cole slaw. The special meats of the day were good, but the standards were so outstanding that I think we'd choose those next time. We love braised lamb shank, and Lucky Cat's had good lamb flavor, but our portion was a bit dry and could have used more braising sauce. Similarly, the short rib was dominated by the rub, and the meat inside wasn't as moist as I'd hoped. That said, these nitpicks feel downright silly when you consider the towering glory of that BRISKET and that PORK BELLY. The brisket and belly are legit magnificent: a perfect balance of tender meat and just enough unctuous fat. They offer the option of keto-friendly greens under your meat, but splurge for the carbs of the jasmine rice. This meat deserves the best possible support. The pork ribs were also terrific, with a deeply smoky cure. The sweet heat sauce was our favorite -- it's not spicy, just a bit warm. Superb on the pork belly and pulled pork. But if you're getting that brisket or pork ribs, IMHO they don't need much help. We tried the special pumpkin cheesecake, which was really a whipped pudding or mousse with some pastry in the cup -- a nice closer if you still have room. Truly worth a special trip. There was a line of people waiting for Lucky Cat BBQ when we arrived, which typically means we were about to eat somewhere special. From all the Instagram hype I was seeing about this place, I was excited to get my hands on this BBQ. Unfortunately, the bun our sandwiches came on was not good - stale even, and ruined the remaining ensemble. When eaten alone, the meat was good. It was cooked well and seasoned well. With a better bun these sandwiches would have been awesome. Perhaps considering ordering something without a bun? The mac n cheese had a good flavor, but was nothing to get hyped up about. The cost is above what I'd expect for comparable items elsewhere. Lastly, we ordered one of their desserts and were never given it. We didn't realize until it was too late, because there are no seating areas outside the food truck so we went to a park to eat our food. All things considered, our experience was not what I was expecting. I will only try this food truck again if it is not out of my way to visit - I wouldn't travel more than 10 min to get it. I finally got my chance to try Lucky Cat's BBQ food truck. Following them on Facebook, I knew Lucky Cat would be in the neighborhood today and I stopped on the way home from DT Las Vegas. I looked at the menu, but I had pretty much settled on a banh mi sandwich. That's what I ordered with brisket. The two sides I got were Hawaiian style macaroni salad and Asian slaw. For dessert, I got the ube cheesecake. Everything was packed nicely for bringing home to eat. The banh mi was great. It was spicy with good pickled vegetables and the brisket was a good meat for the sandwich. The roll was perfect for the banh mi. The two sides added a lot to my sandwich. The Asian slaw with it's mayo dressing and flavors hit the spot. I was new to Hawaiian srtyle macaroni salad and this was a super change. Just the right amount of mayo and a small amount of tuna made this something I'd order as a side again. The ube cheesecake was wonderful. Do not leave without adding one of their cheesecakes to your order. Service was friendly and fast. I've known Shawn for a number of years and it was a pleasure patronizing his new business. I've been trying to catch this food truck for months! But my schedule just hasn't been able to get there when they come to my side of town! The food is amazing! Affordable for all that you get. It comes with jasmine rice automatically. Then you get a choice of 2 sides if you order a plate combo. I got the pulled pork and sliced brisket with double Mac! And with any good bbq, you have to try the banana pudding! Yum across the board!! Can't wait to try everything they have!! The service is great. I was fortunate Lucky Cat was on my side of town. I saw their food truck at the Terrible's on Fort Apache and Charleston and decided to give them a try. I'm so glad I did. Let's start with the good. (1) The brisket was delicious. It was well seasoned, super soft and falling apart. I still have dreams about that brisket. (2) The owner was super nice and ordering from the menu was easy with no issue. Now the bad. (1) I don't have anything negative to say, but I have a couple of suggestions. The first is that I hope they'll come to the West Side more. (2) Not a big deal, but I hope they can package their sides separately. I hate when my Mac Salad gets warmed from the heat of the meats. Oh my , where do I start ? The owner Shawn was very nice and informative as we talked about bbq in Texas and South Carolina. I grew up in the Carolinas and lived in Texas for a few years and have had my share of bbq in many , many states. I'm pretty much a bbq nut. I grew up on whole hog pulled pork , but have grown to love brisket , hot links , and other things that are popular in other regions. This is a food truck currently in the parking lot of a Maaco Paint and Body Shop , next to the Wells Fargo Bank. This is a Texas Bbq place with an Asian Influence. They have Specials and of course the Main Menu with hearty meats , sides , and desserts to choose from. I got the 2 Meat Special with Upgrades. The Lucky Cat Prime Brisket is $3 more and I got a Dinosaur Beef Short Rib which was another $12. My 2 sides were the Gooey Mac & Cheese and Asian Slaw. The meats were also on a bed of Jasmine Rice with Furikake. He also gave me a small container of the Garlic Chili Pulled Pork to try for this review. I also got for dessert the Caramel Banana Pudding with Choco Graham Cracker Crumble and little Nilla Waffers to add to it. Yes I had a ton of leftovers for the next day and to share with my son and daughter in law. They have 4 main Bbq Sauces and a Special Bbq Sauce that they have on occasion and they were nice enough to let me try all of them. The Banana Pudding is not your traditional yellow banana pudding , it is whipped. It has the flavor , but not the consistency you may be used to. I want to try the Ube Whipped Cheesecake next time. It is from the Philippines and is a vegetable like yam. I also saw previous pictures of Texas Twinkies which I would definitely like to try. Wiggly, jiggly and passes the spank test. Well rendered fat but still plenty rich and juicy thanks to its grade. Good smoke flavor with very little astringency and a hint of bitterness. The sauce, if you must, thick, slightly sweet with pronounced coffee notes. It works with the smoky goodness of the brisket. Pulled pork and guts (jalapeno and cheddar sausage) both on offer. Neither sampled. Plates come with two sides plus rice or tossed greens. Two good sized slices of brisket. $23. Pricy by Texas standards. Dirt cheap by Hawaii standards. This is USDA Prime after all. Follow on IG for popup dates and locations. So why not five stars? I've eaten at Franklin's, Snow's, Black's and done the Lockhart BBQ trail. I read about this truck on social media and heard good things from a couple of friends - I am from Texas and always looking for good barbecue, and the Asian-influenced menu here adds a fun touch to their quality meats. So far, I've had the Brisket Elote Cups ($12?, I don't even like corn all that much and I really enjoyed this, great bark on the brisket!), the mixed plate with spare ribs, rice and slaw ($13, filling lunch portion, tender meat with good flavor), the brisket cheese steak sandwich with peppers, onions, and mushrooms with sides of mac salad and mac & cheese ($25, SUCH a good sandwich, large portion made this a sharable meal), plus their ube cheesecake cups ($6, delightful, not too sweet!). I feel like you really can't go wrong here, and I'm looking forward to trying more the next time I can swing by for a visit, specifically their monster burger/sandwich, the curry special, the chili garlic pulled pork, and their dinosaur beef ribs. I'm not gonna lie, I was somewhat disappointed in my food after coming here based off the reviews and verbal praise I've seen from this food truck. My first gripe with my visit here was that there was a upcharge to get sliced brisket. They serve chopped brisket as the standard. Then the portion of brisket I got was fatty. I do like fatty brisket, but I'm used to being asked if I want lean, fatty, or a mix. I figured if I got hit with a upcharge, I'd see some lean. I'm a die hard fan of Hawaiian mac salad, and I know there are countless versions, but this establishment has theirs with fish(canned tuna?) in it, and I definitely wasn't feeling it. Maybe I missed that ingredient on their menu. They were extremely skimpy with the portion sizes for their sides. One being perfectly scooped into the top section of the box, as if measured with a ice cream scoop. The meal all together seemed like a very small portion. While I got a 3-meat meal, the "2 portions" of brisket I got would easily be a single portion at a number of bbq joints in the city. I enjoy bark on my bbq, but the bark on the pork belly I got was overkill. Each slice was about 50% hard almost crunchy bark, the only meaty portion was some what tough. No distinct layers of tender meat, rendered and cooked fatty bits, and a nice reasonable outer layer of bark; just that hard almost jerky bark and the not tender meat. I did enjoy the brisket and the mac and cheese. I got my order rather quickly and everything was correct, hot, and fresh. I really wanted to enjoy this unique food truck, but can't see myself coming here again. read more

Visited this food truck when it came up to aliante. If you follow their instagram, you can see what area they will service next. The menu is on a big sign up front and there is a hand written menu on the truck for the daily specials. My wife and I ordered the 3 meat combo which comes with your choice of sides. We got the sliced brisket, the garlic chili pulled pork, and the mesquite smoked pork belly. We put it over rice which was seasoned with furikake and chose the Mac and cheese and asian slaw for the sides. The portions are big so we definitely shared and had enough to eat the next day. The brisket was easily pulled apart with plastic utensils and juicy. The pulled pork and pork belly were moist and had a great flavor and a small spicy kick. There are choices of sauce that go with the bbq. We tried the espresso meow sauce and the original meow sauce. My favorite was the espresso sauce with all the meats. It's tangy with a sort of smoky flavor. The Mac and cheese was a little too creamy for our liking but the Asian slaw was excellent. It has the same vegetables as your normal Cole slaw but is mixed with some Asian flavoring. In a separate visit we ordered the brisket again and the smoked oxtail stew from the daily special menu. Again the brisket slices had a nice smoke ring and were tender. The oxtail stew was falling off the bone tender. You can really taste everything that was put into the stew. The vegetables were also tender. With some of the sauce mixed with the rice it made for a nice meal on that cold windy day. My dino rib was delish. The best beef ribs I've had outside of TX. Their Asian slaw is really good too. Loved the sauces too. I tried the spicy one, I think it was called revenge or something and the one that has coffee in it. Both sauces paired so well with the ribs and the sides. The service was good, the food was decent but the portions was sad... if I pay $23 plus tax for a sliced brisket plate I'm getting more than 2 pieces... I'm sure I can choose meaty or fatty but to be the thickness of a pork belly I would get at a Korean bbq spot was sad. I'm not satisfied and unfortunately do not have a good review for this establishment. Shame on the people posting fake reviews and unnecessarily hyping up a business that does not deserve such praise. I can't reply to your comment so I'll edit here, you're right it is about quality over quantity but I didn't want to go all out and rip your food truck cause you are indeed putting your art out there but your Asian slaw was ok, Mac and cheese reminded me of Velveeta and your brisket yet juicy needed the sauce cause on its own it was just meat. I have never eaten at famous Dave's but cause you made that comment I will give it a try. read more
