I'm just going to say it upfront, this place is not about aesthetics at all. The inside is a little run down, nothing curated or "cute" about it. I even noticed small drips on the wall that looked like sauce stains, so yeah...not the kind of spot you come to for ambiance. BUT. The food? Absolutely makes up for it. I saw a steady stream of DoorDash drivers coming in and out the entire time, which already told me this place is popular for a reason and after eating, I get it. The food is really good. Like, seasoned all the way through, flavorful, not dry, not bland everything just hits. The chicken was juicy and tender with that perfect grilled flavor, and the portions are generous. The rice was fluffy, the mac salad was creamy and balanced, and everything together just felt like a solid, satisfying plate. No shortcuts, no watered down flavor, just good food done right. Vegas has a LOT of Hawaiian BBQ spots, but hands down...this is one of the best, if not the best I've had out here. So yeah, don't come here expecting vibes. What happened to this place!!! Just here a few months ago but damn! Today we came in it's so dirty inside, doors sticky, glass filthy, bathrooms so gross and smelled of pure urine. Place is showing zero pride. This was our favorite go to spot off strip that we visit every time we come to Vegas and that we recommend to everyone. This trip I brought my mother and bragged about it on our drive. She refused to order anything there as soon as we walked in. So there were No ribs today and they don't know when or if another location they will have them?? Spam musubi is premade but did not look great once opened. My son took one bite and said it was disgusting- No musubi sauce and tasted like it has been sitting for a while. Like just make them fresh if they're gonna sit all day. I also decided to haphazardly order a very sad and pathetic side of Mac salad that didn't taste like anything. 2 OG musubi and a side of Mac salad for $11 that went straight into the garbage. We Debated coming back on a different day on this LV trip to see if it's an off day but not sure I can after seeing how dirty it was and that they are ok to sell crap to loyal customers. Needed lunch in the Vegas area and one of the highlights of this spot is the easy and free parking. Our group also wanted rice and meat dishes so Hawaiian BBQ seemed to be the best route. Casual food joint. The inside could use better cleaning especially on the tables and there's also a smell of sewerage in the air (from the bathroom pipes?) inside while you dine. They were out of kalbi to my disappointment so we couldn't get the Big Kahuna entree. They wouldn't let us order it still and just replace the kalbi short rib meat with a different meat they offer for some reason. Made no sense since they could have easily substituted it. Regardless, we ended up getting the beef ribs plate (#1) and the steak box (2 scoops of rice) to share. The beef ribs looked good but the flavor and taste ended up really being just okay. The ribs were paired with their cold "macaroni" salad with potato chunks, I didn't like it either and wished I got their green salad option instead. At least the portion of meat was generous. The steak box had steak that was cut into thin pieces and tasted like overcooked chewy chuck meat. Teriyaki sauce given on the side (you definitely need it to add some flavoring). What happened? I used to rave about this place because of their beef rib barbecue... after a few months, their ribs have changed !!!! I returned a week ago and ordered them to satisfy my craving... I was disappointed. The ribs have lost their flavor, tough, burnt and unfortunately, cold. Seems like they didn't marinate and boil it long enough to infuse flavor and tenderize the meat. Took it out of the fridge, put it on the grill to warm it up, and burned parts of it.... Disappointing compared to when they first opened up.... I'm not the only one who noticed. A friend of mine said the same thing and said he will avoid bringing friends to the place. I share his sentiment. Sorry to say. So after some time I figured I would stop back in. I came up to the doors at 3:11pm today (6-22-26) to find the doors locked and the lights inside off. There's still a sign on the front doors that shows the hours of operation. Then you go around to the side doors with a hand written sign stating "closed". No explanation. Nothing. Nothing on the socials and nothing in the news. Google maps shows that they are closed all week but opening Monday at 11am. Seriously. Enough is enough. Matiki Island is one of my weekly go-tos! I order the #2 SHORT RIB (kalbi) with extra meat and all Green Salad and forgo the side of rice. The flavor is outstanding! Their staff is always very friendly and I love the vibe with the music they play. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is sometimes the meat is a bit fatty, but I eat around it and move on to the next. I travel for work and am sometimes not home long enough to buy many groceries, so Matiki Island is a constant good option to replace eating at home. Great char and flavor on both these items. The rib had great fatty charred pieces on it and a sweet flavor. The quality of the kalbi was great. The marinade was nice and caramelized and came with a lot of meat. The mac salad was delicious. I was shown a TikTok of the MacSpam Masubi and absolutely had to try this place. The staff was very friendly except for one Caucasian woman. Not once did she smile or say anything nice, but one bad apple shouldn't ruin the whole bunch. I will say though that one young woman stood out. She always had a smile and was so friendly, but it seemed like she was training. She went out of her way for us, so kudos to her! The Spam Mac would've been better if I liked the Mac salad, but unfortunately it was disappointing. Not much flavor, but I hope they fix that issue. Everything else was good. The short ribs were SPECTACULAR! So tender and flavorful. The date of the meal though ( and the reason for the 4 stars) is the PANI POPO!!!! Sorry for not having pictures of that. I've eaten the huge, meaty beef ribs from Matiki a few times - mostly back in CA. I was excited to order today for delivery. I was so in the mood for beef ribs which are so hard to find these days. I ordered the Sam's Plate so I could have leftovers tomorrow. I opened my box and was disappointed to see a bunch of beef bones, all which were half-bare. As I pulled out each bone, I saw and tasted the same thing on each. Bark fat and more fat and NO beef. One bone that was broken in half had two bites of actual beef on it. I was so disappointed, having paid for a pile of fat, rice and mac salad. We didn't get our green salads delivered at all. Hubby ordered a steak plate and it was like chewing leather. Big change from the last time i visited and it was not only a relocation a few doors over to the corner spot, but also an expansion. Walked in and there were a few people in the restaurant, so we knew we had arrived at the perfect time. I went up to the cashier to get a menu so I can look at the changes, and she blew me off. Not very friendly at all. Took a seat, and allowed my life and children to decide what they wanted to eat for the evening while we listened to island music. The menu had some small changes, but nothing drastic. We went with the steak, pork and chicken combo. Picked up some spam musubi for the little ones, and kid size combos for them as well. Took about 20 minutes for us to get our food. When they called out my order, we walked up to the counter to retrieve it, afterwards one of the ladies brought the food to our table after she saw what we were sitting at for the remainder of the order which was the panipopo (coconut bread) and some of the smaller items. Definitely a great place to eat, the service that day was mixed as the cashier was meh, but the lady who brought our food to us was very kind and had great customer facing attitude. Took a trip to this place based on a tip from the office where we'd been working for 12 hours. Most of the staff are islanders so we figured they'd know. Guess not. The reviews looked glowing and it's easy to get to in one of the ubiquitous Las Vegas strip malls. You need to know what's on the menu or you stand at the counter and look at the only one available. There's nothing posted on the wall. The cashier taking orders didn't seem familiar with the menu. He had to ask a coworker they offered chicken and kalbi and hesitated when he was asked the difference between the plate and the box. In the end, J got a steak & kalbi plate, and I had a chicken teri box with veggies. On the plus sides: it's cheap (under $14) and the char on the chicken is quite good. On the other hand, it's an environmentalist's nightmare. Every meal is served in a plastic clamshell with single serve plastic utensils, sauces in little plastic covered cups and all bagged up in thin film plastic. People see the napkin dispensers and take 3 inches worth for two people and throw it in the garbage. Ugh. Sorry. Squirrel! The veggies in my box were bland, over steamed cabbage and a few slices of carrot. I don't know how J ate his beef. They put a couple pieces in with my chicken by mistake and it was just a piece of fat with a shred of beef and another piece of fat with a bone stuck on it. Kind of nasty to be honest and what was good wasn't that good. J agreed with me. Yummm!! This place wasn't hard at all to find! We got in and just went to the screen on the right to put our own order in. You can also go to the cashier and place your order if you'd like. Once we got done putting our order in, we just waited til they called our names to go get our order at the counter. They were pretty quick with their tech time. We didn't have to wait long at all. Prices here were great as well! I order the Kalbi with Mac salad. I also tried their Musubi. I loved their Kalbi sooo much. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly! I also loved their rice. Their rice was cooked perfectly and it was also white. I've had rice at some places where it's supposed to be white, but sometimes they leave it in the rice cooker for so long so the rice starts turning colored. I really like how the rice here was super white. It was also cooked to perfection. It was nice and soft. I felt that the water to rice consistency was perfect. My favorite thing here was the Kalbi. When they first opened, I genuinely loved coming here and even recommended it to others. Ever since they moved to the next building, everything has gone wrong. After seeing so much hype about this place and their beef ribs, I finally had a chance to give it a try. Conclusion? Beef Ribs 7/10. They were solid but nothing to rave about. Some had very little meat, but overall flavor more of smoke instead of marinade. Galbi short ribs 9/10. These are the best protein we tried and better than most Korean BBQ places (yes I know this is Hawaiian). Very tender, meaty short ribs without a lot of tough gristle. Perfectly balanced (not too salty or sweet), natural flavored. Grilled chicken 3/10. Dry and tasted like 2-3 day old leftover chicken, not freshly grilled tasting. Dipping sauce could not save it. Mac salad 8/10. Solid accompaniment. Definitely finished it. Overall was a bit disappointed with the beef ribs and won't ever touch the chicken again. But the good news is we found a place to get great short ribs and mac salad from here on out. read more

I recall going to Matiki when they first operated out of their Ghost kitchen on St. Louis/industrial and when they first opened on Tropicana-was so good! Those days seem gone. On my most recent visit-not only did they raise their prices-not reflected on their in-house menu. I waited at least a good half hour for my order. The guy at the counter kept telling everyone about 10 min. The steak/chicken plate-the serving was small not much steak and small slices. The macaroni salad scoop was small too. I was getting a smog check next door and wanted to grab a bottled water. I've been wanting to try this place for a while but it was a Friday during Lent and I wasn't eating meat that day. I decided I would also try their Macaroni Potato Salad since I was there, and it's good. When I walked in, the employee was on the phone I guess helping a customer. Disappointed. Moved to Vegas from Cali where Matiki's is well known for their island grinds. For 8 months I was ordering at least once a week (via Door Dash) our family meals and the food was good. While out running errands one day, we decided to dine-in for the first time. WTF!! From the smudgy glass entry door, the filthy tables ( EVERY SINGLE TABLE), overflowing trash bin, empty utensil caddy, sticky counter surface, just an overall un-kepted feel to the whole place.. I mean.. come on guys, just pushing all the empty chairs in would have been a 2 minute task. I wanted to exit immediately but my daughter wanted her rib plate.
