I've tried others and have been sorely disappointed with all the stuff they have to take out to make it GF. I can't believe I have not added a review to this ramen place until now. I discovered this place when it was recognized as Yelp's 100 Best Places to Eat. They serve only 4 different kinds of ramen. I tried the tonkutso ramen and the veggie ramen. The veggie ramen here beats all of the of veggie ramen combined from all of the top ramen places in Portland. The price? We just found out that Lucky Cat made Yelps Top 100 places in the U.S. What a treat to finally make it here. Situated in H-Mart, there are only about 12 countertop seats with a simple menu. Staff were really great, kind and quick. One of the best things was the free hot tea!! Never seen this but so happy to have a hot beverage on a cold/wet day. Bring a jacket because this Ramen spot is next to the front entrance of the mart. We had an order of Gyoza and Tankatsu Ramen. You'll notice the the difference in color of our broths based on the spice level. My buddy 1/5 on the spice level and mine was 3/5 on the spice level. This is a little ramen bar inside of H-mart and we just sat to eat after grocery shopping. We got our food quickly and service was great. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and it was decent. The soup was pretty flavorful but got me pretty thirsty after. The beef shoyu ramen was not impressive at all. I could have made a bed bowl at home. The noodles were alright. Been coming here for a long time. We love this place it is so good. But recently they switched to cheap plastic bowls. That are not even dishwasher save. Which means they are not safe enough to handle the temperature of the hot broth poured into them. I'll update my review when they get rid of plastic leaching bowls. This ramen place is tucked into the Tigard H-mart and couldn't have been more of a lovely surprise to find. It's all counter seating and you have about 4 appetizers and 4 ramens to choose from. Upon being seated we were offered green tea or water to drink (you could purchase a soft drink if you'd like). We ordered the tempura shrimp but definitely didn't need it; the ramen portions are huge! I got the Tonkotsu and my partner got the miso and we were impressed with the whole meal. The owner stayed and chatted with us for a while and was incredibly friendly. She owns DD Thai next door as well, which we now plan to try as well. Okay, You know how you hear about Asian Restaurants that are OUTSTANDING that are situated in just unassuming little hole in the walls. Well here we go.... Lucky Cat is owned by Sarah and Tippy. Tippy also owns and runs the Thai restaurant next door. Tippy is Thai and Sarah is her daughter in law and also cooks incredible Thai. Both restaurants are inside the H Mart off of Highway 99 near BiMart in Tigard. We just happened to stumble on This place as we were shopping like crazy in the grocery store sections. This store is also really jacked up with Asian foods. Everything you'd need and more! Now for the ramens. Yes let's get to the real reason we sat at the counter. My girlfriend ordered the Pork Shoyu Ramen, $12. Delicious! Especially the broth. Very light but incredibly savory. Included in the Shoyu broth was bok choy, enoki and shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, soft boiled egg, tender pork belly, scallions, red ginger and nori. A huge bowl was set in front of her! Also she did not ask for any heat which can go all the way up to level 5. And that is really really spicy hot! So note: watch the heat request. My ramen was the Tonkotsu. From the first slurp to the last morsels of rich brothed ramen, I couldn't stop smiling. This was so yummy I can't think of the last time I had a meal this delicious from such an unpretentious setting. My order included Tonkotsu broth with bok choy, enoki and shiitake mushies, bamboo shoots, boiled egg, ChasuPork Belly, scallions, red ginger and nori. The bowl of ramen was HUGE! I couldn't eat it all so I asked for a to go container. Tippy brought it back to me with extra broth and goodies filled to the brim and told me to have a great dinner! What a gem! I obviously loved the food but the icing on the cake was Tippy and Sarah! Class acts in the restaurant biz. My only regret is not saving room for the Machi Ice Cream. Next time for sure. There are very few places that all four of us walk out of very impressed. We went into H Mart with the intention of getting DD Thai. However, we walked by here and saw that they had gluten-free options. Our recently diagnosed celiac kid wanted to try it, so we decided to give it a go. (I forgot to mention that before we decided to dine in, we were offered water or tea while we looked at the menu. Unheard of!!) They were very patient while we asked about their gluten-free options, and they even asked us questions about it! They had plenty of options and even options to make it spicy...winning already! The gluten-free noodles were a hit with my son, which lemme tell you, is amazing. He really dislikes the noodles in pho, but he loved how the noodles tasted in the ramen. These bowls are huge, and my son finished the whole thing. I can't even begin to tell you how awesome that is. He can barely finish half a quesadilla, this kid. So, as we used to say when he was younger, it was two thumbs, two toes, and a nose up. Delicious! My husband and other kid loved it as well. The bowls are HUGE! I was the only one with leftovers though. And the chef came out to talk to us too. Super sweet. She owns DD Thai (also fabulous!!), and is helping her daughter-in-law start this place. Do go here. My husband and I always get this take out because the seating is tiny inside. But it is always incredibly well packaged and stays hot and fresh.
