I come here all the time. All the time. I usually get a 3 item combo for ~$16. Today I decided to try the Alpha Roll for ~$14. It is about twice the price of a spicy tuna roll, but the one I received was VERY small and VERY thin on the tuna and avocado on top (See photo). Two of the rolls almost have nothing on them at all. It was ridiculous. I almost demanded my money back, but I hate wasting food. I cannot recommend ordering individual sushi here until they serve rolls worth the price tag. I've ordered the Aloha Rolls elsewhere before and were full after. You get maybe half the size for the same price here. I'll still come here for the combo plate but the individual sushi rolls are a ripoff. read more

Glad this restaurant is within walking distance from home. There seem to be many bother regulars coming in to dine there as well as pick up their dinners to go. Came here on a Friday around 11:30 right when it opened fairly busy. Fountain drinks. To order is like cafeteria style. You order up front counter wait for your number then get a tray and grab your own sauces and napkins. Once done throw food and leave tray next to garbage. Ordered the salmon pieces it was good size taste was okay. The spicy tuna it wasn't spicy and a bit fishy taste. The miso soup was good. The sushi was at room temp not cold as I've had in other sushi spots. And since they grill also inside it gets warm. All in all it was an interesting way to eat and for taste to price it was okay. Fixed my sushi craving in a pinch! The workers were very kind and honestly on a Saturday around lunch time it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be! However, I can see why people would say order ahead. The Aloha roll was pretty good, the gyoza was probably my favorite part though! They have that nailed. Their chicken was alittle dry and their ginger looked alittle less fresh. But I would come back for the kind service, I bet some food is just hit or miss depending on the time of day! 12 years later I'm still up in here , sushi west is the go to spot ! They accept card now! They have reasonable prices especially in this economy , it's always busy here . I pass this place frequently and decided to give it a try. I went in and placed a to go order for a Salmon Bento Box. Inside it was not that busy but I could tell that they had a lot of delivery orders. I waited 22 minutes for my order. I brought it home and At a glance was not overly impressed with presentation. I tasted the salmon and it lacked flavor even though it was smothered with teriyaki sauce. The miso soup was ok. Inside had seating and a sushi bar if dining alone. Beverages are canned with exception of hot green tea. Traditional Japanese snacks at register. Ample parking in the lot outside. Will I return, probably not anytime in the near future. read more

From the outside, the Sushi West gives a modern vibe, but from the inside--the place is like a combination of ancient Japan and a modern restaurant. They have TVs that hang from the ceiling, occasionally playing Japanese commercials while you eat. It sets the vibe of a modern Japanese restaurant when you walk in. You select your combo from the options above. Make sure to keep the reciept! It comes with your order number. My favorite to order is a number 2 the tempura with sesame chicken, rice, and California roll. As you can see, the bowl is large--comes with an additional salad. You wait for a moment until they call the number. After you have been called, you get to sit down and enjoy your meal. The experiance never fails me, and the staff are always so kind. The best spot for a quick casual Japanese fix! I got the two item combo with beef and shrimp tempura and it reminded me of a home cooked meal made with love. The beef was so tender and the tempura was very crispy. And idk what it is about Japanese rice but it's so good! The combo also comes with miso soup and a salad which I didn't mind eating. But my complaint is if Mc Donald's doesn't ask for tip why should you? And the reason I say that is I order at the counter, pick up my own food at the counter and then I have to BUS my own plates. They shouldn't have to ask for tips. Specially when the cashier gives you a look like "no tip". At the end if I am in that direction and u want sushi Yes I will stop by and get something. I was impressed on the portion size received. You get your bang for your buck! Food was delicious and fresh. They give free water away as well which tasted clean, not like sink water. They do not have fountain sodas, only soda cans for sale which is not a big deal! I recommend this place, staff is ok.. they don't talk much but they treat you with respect. We stopped coming here a few years back. The quality of the sushi went downhill and was not good. My mother, who recently had a fall, decided she wanted a salmon sashimi bowl, so I came here. While I was waiting for my order I witnessed sometging that would never make me go bac. The sushi chef with his bare hands, making sushi, grabbed the restroom keys from a woman and hung them up and then went back to making sushi. I think he should have washed his hands. We really enjoyed this quaint restaurant tucked in the middle Bixby Knolls. We split the Wave combo, which contained 6 nigiri of 3 different fish, all were great cuts, and a roll of your choosing. Then the create your own combo where we got the must have sesame chicken, tempura mix and spicy salmon roll. Everything was great! I got the I think it's called a hawaiin roll very well presented for Take out it's salmon avacado on a California roll. I also got salmon skin roll no eel sauce. The salmon was fresh and the salmon skin was smoky which I liked.The person I was with got some special. It was a little loud in there but the cashier was very sweet since it was my first time. Stopped by sushi west while running errands. Located in the same complex as the Edgar and James goodwill store, right across the parking lot. There is a good size parking lot. Inside, it is fast food like, where you place/pay for your order at the counter. They will then call out your order number for pick up. You also self bus. I really wanted to try their sashimi without ordering too much food, so tried the tri color donburi bowl (tuna, yellowtail, salmon). It is a beautiful dish (with an orchid flower for presentation). The rice was cooked perfectly, with the fish slices on top....and with things typically in a maki roll: avocado slice, cucumber slivers, ginger, nori, sprouts, wasabi. It came with a small bowl of miso soup, all packaged really well. The fish was good, though as always, least impressed with the yellowtail (sometimes I wonder if I've ever had really fresh yellowtail before...all of it seems average). It has a nice seating area, with a dedicated bar for those who want to sit close to the chef while he works. Drinks are from the cooler and there is a self service water station right next to it. Recent Cons: - Food is not ready on time. - One time, I was on hold for 35 minutes AFTER they hung up on me once already.
