I ordered from here after an exam as a little treat and I don't usually review food places but i'm disappointed lmao I got orange chicken with fried rice, an egg roll, crab rangoons, and a boba. None are great. The egg roll is good no complaints. The boba has a horrible texture like the tapioca pearls were frozen and thawed or something idk but it's bad. Fried rice is fine but no egg or veggies in it. The rangoons have a weird texture too like it was frozen and thawed also very little filling and little to no cream cheese. The orange chicken is weird. The sauce is very liquidy and tastes like they took sweet and sour chicken and then just squeezed and orange over top of it. Not the worst thing in the world but not really what you want when you're expecting typical americanized orange chicken lol. Lucky dragon was my favorite Chinese take out place, however recently they changed their chicken in the chicken dishes and it just doesn't taste the same :( the hot pepper chicken was my favorite dish, the chicken was cut into smaller cubes and now it's thin and flat like most Chinese restaurants. I had a great first time here last night dining with an awesome group of fellow Yelpers It is in the strip mall next to Lucky's Market, with plenty of parking. It has a lovely interior and we were given attentive service Mike G. recommended the Mai Tai. It came out with a little umbrella and went down easily. I ate one Crab Rangoon and one Vietnamese Fresh Spring Roll; both had great flavor. The menu is fairly large and I had a difficult time choosing an entree. The Seafood portion is all about shrimp, which I am trying to cut back on. Nothing jumped out at me under Vegetables, so on the Asian Special page I selected the Fish Filet with Corn Sauce (see Livia G.'s photo). It was good and I liked it, but probably wouldn't order it again. It is a little bland, and is perfect as a kid's meal. It is unbreaded white fish with creamed corn. It comes with rice. Although in Luke T.'s review he said he had crispy tofu, I did not see tofu on the menu, except with meat dishes, which I think is odd. I am thinking I could ask for it to be added to a vegetable dish next time. I will definitely return for dinner, and another Mai Tai. read more

Not sweet, not sour or spicy. Beef strips were very tender and flavorful. Lots of bean sprouts. Also got their Vietnamese Spring Rolls (2). Some of the best Peanut Sauce I've tasted. I came over here for dinner this evening. My meal started off with an order of spicy wontons. Yep, you read that right. They finally started making them, just for me. For my entree, I had duck with bean sprouts. The duck is roasted and pulled off the bone and reheated with bean sprouts. The duck was sliced fairly thick and was still juicy. A great meal. read more

I had a great time meeting up with everyone at Lucky Dragon to try it for the first time, and I really love that Mike G. was able to put this together. I loved the large table with the Lazy Susan we could use to share dishes, and the server was very good despite their being a large number of us. The food was a little hit or miss for me, but for the most part I enjoyed it. Honestly, I think I ended up enjoying everyone else's food a bit more than mine. I was curious to try some of the more traditional dishes here to compare to others around town, so I tried the spicy peppercorn fish filet and the beef tendor appetizer. I have to say I wasn't a big fan of the beef tendon. It was a little thicker cut than ones I've had before, and it wasn't really picking up the flavor of the spices it was marindaded in. Luckily, Mike G. had ordered some appetizer samplers for the table along with my girlfriend, so I got to try the dumplings, crab rangoon, spare ribs, and egg rolls. I really liked all of those. I haven't had beef satay in so long, and it used to be my go to at any Chinese restaurant, and I really enjoyed it. As far as my fish dish goes, it was pretty bland despite being dunked in a soup of red chili peppers and oil. It was some type of mild white fish, so it really just tasted like the chili oil, and I think they could have kicked up in the flavor game by adding some other spices to it. I tried my girlfriend's General Tso's and Mike's Kung Pao Scallop and Shrimp and liked both of those. My favorite dish I tried I think would have to be the Spicy Salted Squid. If I'm ever back up here I'd get that. Overall, this place has its ups and downs, but it's a pretty solid Chinese restaurant overall. There's not too many Chinese spots right around this particular part of North Campus/Clintonville, so it does a good job of filling that void. I'd imagine it's a great place for students as well. It can be the small things in life that make you happy, like having a solid Cantonese restaurant in walking distance of your house. And now that Lucky Dragon has opened, I do. Buried amidst the ridiculously large menu are two restaurants, a Cantonese one and a Vietnamese one (according to a waitress, they have a chef of each cuisine in the kitchen). Most of the authentic Cantonese food is on the "Asian Special" portion of the menu, while the Vietnamese food lives in the "Noodle Soup" category, although there is some crossover. The rest of the menu is standard Chinese-American stuff that I won't touch. I haven't had the Vietnamese food yet, but the Cantonese food is solid, if not exceptional. Sometimes that's enough - a place you can walk to and get a nice plate of pan-fried noodles (liang mian huang), or a bowl of noodle soup. It wasn't so long ago that this wasn't an easy thing to find in Columbus, so being able to take it for granted, that's a good thing. read more

I must first apologize about the tardiness of this review. This was our first visit to Lucky Dragon at the invitation of Mike G. to participate in his UYE. We had been looking forward to trying out another of Mike G.'s choice Chinese restaurants and to have an evening of food and fellowship with other Yelpers and a bountiful assortment of Chinese delights at the Lucky Dragon. This was the first UYE of Mike G's that we've attended, but we were looking forward to a sumptuous evening of Chinese delicacies. The building is rather nondescript therefore we drove past it the first time, but after turning around we realized the sign for Lucky Dragon is more obvious approaching the restaurant from the south. As you enter the restaurant, you are immediately aware of a beautiful water fountain demonstrating peace and prosperity to all who enter. As we stepped inside the main dining room, we saw several tables of different shapes and booths draped beautifully with white tablecloths. We spotted several of our friends who We're already seated at a big round table in the center of the room. The waitress, Malissa quickly gave us menus, took drink orders and delivered them in a timely manner. Of course Mike G. got his usual Mai Tai and the rest of us got our drinks. Marlena got some kind of banana cocktail and enjoyed it so much, she considered ordering another before she had even finished her first one. After all the drinks were delivered, Malisa, took orders for food. In the meantime, Mike G., our host, had provided us with several different appetizers that were placed on the lazy susan in the center of the table for all to share. These included: delicious, tender, Potstickers, Chinese Egg Rolls, Vietnamese Crab Rangoon, a huge Lo Mein dish on a Lazy Susan turntable in the center for all of us. Then, Malisa began taking our food orders. My wife stayed with her usual War Su Gai and an egg roll. I ordered my usual hot and sour soup , but then decided to be adventurous and order spicy, salted squid and a Vietnamese egg roll for my entrée. Never having eaten salted Squid before this, I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it might taste like fried squid (Calamari) that I have enjoyed. But, this was definitely a different taste. First, you could taste the saltiness of seafood in the squid, but it was also striated and a bit stringy, for lack of a better way to describe it. It did provide a unique taste apart from Calamari's sometimes rubbery feel (that I don't like and fortunately did not get). It was more tender and flavorful since it wasn't floured and deep fried. I and others with whom I shared this dish all thought it had the taste of fish, maybe even local bluegill, according to Ryan's perception. The Vietnamese egg roll was lighter, yet seemed to have more vegetables than the standard Chinese egg roll. My wife's War Su Gai was not quite fully cooked and although she didn't eat it all or say anything about it at the time, she has a pretty good feel for how this dish should be made. Yet, it was fun to explore and sample the food choices each of us had made and to share culinary and other life adventures we had been involved in doing since we'd last been together. We had the Wonton Noodle Egg Noodle Soup, Garlic Broccoli and the Spicy Peppercorn Fish Fillet. I just spent several years living in China and while the dishes aren't exactly what you would find over there, they are for the most part competently done and enjoyable. The fillet is somewhat more spot on, whereas the noodle soup and broccoli seem more adapted (e.g. use of thick white garlic sauce, different ingredients in the wontons). I'm admittedly picky with Chinese food; all things considered, I liked this meal. read more

I first tried Lucky Dragon about 3 years when I moved to Columbus and have not been back, until last night. I gave it a shot back then on take-out and it was okay but never been back because it was so expensive (I remember it being close to $15 for an entree). I was spoiled while living in Philly by having a go-to Asian food destination, Chinatown, where food was awesome at any rando store front you'd enter. Columbus has Chinese restaurants but it's usually a Thai and Vietnamese restaurant too. I had to go to Lucky's Market last evening so I thought I'd try my luck again at Lucky Dragon even if I'd have to spend a little more. In the past three years, it's just as elegant and classy inside but their menu prices now rival normal Chinese take-out establishments. Yes! You also get an additional 5% off for take-out. Egg rolls were good; wonton soup was good; garlic eggplant and chicken was good. They have Thai and Vietnamese like the standard Columbus Chinese restaurant so maybe I'll try those options in the future. For now I'm glad I gave them another try. At least for Chinese, I found a great option close to home! read more

I cannot for a second believe that the staff here eats and enjoys this food. The MaPo Tofu tasted like they poured sauce from a jar on it. I should've listened to the reviews about new ownership. I should've known when I had to tell them my name on top of my phone number (it was in the old owner's system.) I REALLY should've hung up when their lunch special no longer includes an egg roll despite the site still saying it does. It is my bad. I should've known. Charged me $9.50 for an item that is $8.25 on their website. A $3 charge for tofu. And instead of giving me $.50 back she handed me a nickel. I guess I can reminisce about the good old Lucky Dragon. So when "so-so" passes I hope you understand just how bad the sesame chicken was that I've gotten onto Yelp to leave this poor review. Not only was this food tasteless but the texture was revolting. This was my favorite Chinese in Columbus for a long time. I've tried a lot of dishes and I love their Beef Chow Fun. I used to be obsessed with the Kung Pao Chicken, but they totally changed the recipe. It used to be a delicious thick sauce with a ton of water chestnuts. Horrible customer service. The young teenage woman working literally came out to the parking lot and flicked me off as we were leaving. They never get the order right when it is to go. We had 3 wrong orders in 5 weeks and when we called to tell them the older woman working blamed it on me. Then the younger woman working refused to refund my order until we brought the food back. We did bring it back and the young woman working became confrontational and threatening to my girlfriend. They took zero ownership of their mistake and ended it with the bird in my face. Lucky Dragon has decent food but the service is lacking. Came in for dinner on a slow evening. As I walked in and looked at a carryout menu I was totally ignored by the staff. The older Asian man (probably the owner) sat at the bar reading a newspaper and did not acknowledge me at all. After a few minutes I got the attention of one of the servers or the hostess and told her I wanted to dine in. I was seated at a booth and given a menu. After a few minutes the server brought me out some ice water. After looking at the menu for a few minutes I ordered an egg roll and the Hot Pepper Chicken dinner portion. The server never asked if I wanted the egg roll as an appetizer or with my meal. I waited for a semi-long time for my food. I was the only table in the dining room waiting on an order. My food finally arrives at the same time and both were lukewarm and almost cold. The eggroll had a pretty hard skin buy managed to be a little warm on the inside. Tasted OK. The Hot Pepper Chicken had that nice wok flavor that you can't get at home and the garlic, green onions, and fresh jalepenos came together nicely. Overall the chicken dish was executed well. Too bad it was cold when I got it. I ate my whole meal and ran out of ice water before the server arrived with lukewarm water and my bill. The older gentleman who greets seems cordial and pleasant. But the server, I think her name is Vanessa, was the opposite with her attitude. Curt and borderline rude towards fellow Asian customers, but as the minutes grow, and more non-Asian customers walked into the establishment, I could see the contrast of her behavior. From the food quality, I ordered Wonton Noodle Soup, EXTREMELY SALTY. When I mentioned it to the server, her remarks was " Oh, really?" Taste was good, except the saltiness, it's ok, nothing special. We've been trying to find a good Chinese place since China Dynasty closed. Ordered takeout and was pleasantly surprised. We asked for extra spicy chicken and green beans and Kung Pao beef and they delivered! The portions were good and the spice level was exactly what we wanted. This place has gone from what I was told, a shitty Chinese buffet joint to a pretty classy Chinese restaurant. The interior was fairly nice looking despite the shabby strip mall exterior. There were white tablecloths and everythaaang. I ordered the combination pan fried noodle. I requested the thin noodles, but was brought the thick ones instead. It was all good though since it was still delicious. I loved how the layer of pan fried noodles at the bottom had areas of crispiness and then areas that were a little more tender from the sauce. The noodles were topped with a mixture of vegetables and pork, chicken, and shrimp. It was quite satisfying. It looked like half of the menu consisted of Vietnamese fare and the other half Cantonese. I'll have to try other stuff on the menu sometime. read more

I came with my friend for some yummy Chinese food and at the end I decided that I will never return because of the following: The waitress couldn't speak good english so her frustration was so bad that I told her that I would not like some veggies in my food in which she gave me a horrible attitude in my face. I told my friend to leave that place but he said we came here to try the food. I wondered into Lucky Dragon on accident and stayed on purpose. I lost a coin toss with my daughter who decided we would have Chinese buffet for lunch. I was feeling miserable and disappointed before we even got to the restaurant. I was in for a lovely surprise the buffet had been replace by a restaurant. The tables were turned as my daughter wanted to find another buffet but I insisted we stay. The decor was decent, clean and quiet, nothing to overwhelm the senses. The food was where they wanted to make an impression and boy did they. You can go with the typical Asian food staples or you can have an adventurous stomach at Lucky Dragon. I chose adventure. My appetizer was beef tendon with spicy sauce and my main dish was lamb stew in clay pot. I was nervous about these two dishes I had never tried before but now I can't wait to have them again. The beef tendon was cold and refreshing not overly spiced. The bed of lettuce it layed on was crisp and the tendon was perfect. The lamb in clay pot was delicious. It was like comfort food for my soul the rich thick sauce was like heaven in my mouth. I was already on my way to being full from eating half of the beef tendon but I could not stop eating the lamb. I burned my mouth the first few bites but obviously something happened to my brain that caused me not to care.
