We were there for a bday party so I went up to buy my two drinks and then 7 shots - I tipped bartender #2 $6 on a $45 round. Lastly - went to get the second round from bartender #2 and he wouldn't come over for 10+ mins - so I went to him and I asked him what the problem was: he said "When you leave a $6 tip on a $45 shots this is what happens". Last night we went out to celebrate my wife's birthday with a few of our family members. We walked into the bar and the bar tender (tall white male) looked her in the eye and then completely denied her service and ignored her. Next, he poured another white male a drink standing next to us. Considering the possibility that maybe he just didn't hear her saying excuse me 5 or 6 times, she politely touched his hand to get his attention. He then jerked his hand from her and hit her in the chest with 2 of his fingers with excessive force 3 times. Naturally all 6 of us were outraged. Security came over to see what was going on and from the beginning one guard named Cesar took the side of the bar tender and out all of us out. He refused to give us his name even after we called the NYPD. We will be following up with a lawsuit on this and will keep you all updated. No man should ever put his hands on a woman. read more

I came here for a comedy show with a date. We started with drinks upstairs and they were okay. Not the best beer selection in the universe, but if I was still drinking bourbon they had a nice list of that. The basement area where the comedy show was, was pretty nice but kind of cold. I will admit that I had my winter jacket on for half the set. I get that it's an older building AND a basement, but it was slightly uncomfortable. I definitely enjoyed my time here. I like that they have a bar upstairs but also one in the space downstairs when they have shows. Makes the whole experience better (plus, I suppose having drunk people walk up and down stairs to get drinks doesn't make any sense.) Would definitely return if I got the chance! read more

This review is for the FREE COMEDY SHOW on wednesdays. I love comedy shows and let's face it, not many things are free in NYC. I live nearby so I decided to give it a try. Got there around 8:45pm and we were lead downsairs around 9pm to a small room where the comedy show would be. I RSVP'd for me and my boyfriend so we got seats thank goodness.. in the front row. The host was friendly and funny. I thought he was the best act even though he wasn't really an act. The show was TWO hours long. The first hour flew by and I felt entertained. The second hour was such a drag. All the comedians were making jokes about themselves or audience members and it wasn't funny. The "headlining act" was a joke, no pun intended. His act was the longest and it was PAINFULL. I wanted to get up and leave but I was in the front row. He kept looking at his little notebook of jokes accompanied by long awkward silences. I practically fell asleep. I read comments from others saying there was free pizza at the show, but only 2 pies. And yup, there were only 2 pies for around 50 people. I didn't even bother trying to fight for a slice. The bar upsairs was kind of cute and I appreciate the free comedy show but I don't think I will be back for another show. read more

I hosted my husband's birthday here and there literally could not have been a more perfect spot. We rented the private downstairs room, which does NOT require a room fee, just a pretty reasonable bar minimum, something that is pretty near impossible to find in this city. Trust me, I looked. Very hard to find a private room that can hold over 75 people that doesn't want to charge you $3k/hour. The manager, Zach, was so gracious and accommodating. There was a lot of customization required for the festivities and he gave me full access to the space, was able to help with AV, food, everything we needed. They do not serve food, so we were allowed to order in whatever we wanted, another bonus. Then there are the drinks, which are out of this world. Lucky Jack's has a killer whiskey list, but also knows how to make a cocktail. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I don't know how they have stayed under the radar for so long, it is the best venue for hosting a private party in the city. read more

Went here for a private party in the basement. The bar staff was very accommodating and cool. I heard through the grape vine, that the drinks were plenty strong and very generous, but I was too busy with my JW Blue, neat. One problem was our glasses kept disappearing, luckily they were empty for the most part, but a good sign they keep things sanitary. The main bar goes all the way through to Allen St., but the entrance there is closed. It is very NARROW, leaving you to sit at the bar, one of the side tables in the front, or hunkered around the pool table in the back. Anywhere else, and you're in the way. This is an absolute gem in the city! As part of a meet-up event, myself and a group of 6 ladies came here for some after-work/happy hour fun and a FREE comedy show. The décor is nice, reminds me of colonial times. The crowd and ambience features a mature crowd of mostly late 20s-30s. But the best of it all, is the music! The music is so awesome! It was a nice mix of old-school R&B and pop. I wanted to get up and bust-a-move but I couldn't because it was so packed (ha!). The comedy show was also superb, but it didn't start at the time indicated online, which was 7:30pm. In fact, they had 2 shows, 1 at 6pm and another at 8:30pm. I could only stay for 3 comedians, but they were very good nonetheless. I will be returning and recommend anyone to visit. read more

"Come see the Longest Bar in New York City," say my female friends, apparently thinking that I have some unusual affinity for long bars. Truthfully, what they seek is Declan, the handsome dark-haired Irish bartender behind said plank of wood. I have to say that I am glad that I visited this bar however, and have returned many times. Not to see Declan (who is a really decent guy, turns out), but because it is just a great place to hang out. The place is busy on most nights, but always seems to have enough room to move around inside. Drinks come fast, and are highlighted by a decent beer selection, imaginative cocktails, and actual glassware. The last item sounds silly- but more than a few times I've paid 12 bucks for a mixed drink to have it served to me in a clear plastic cup. The only thing worse than that are those little benadryl caps some places give you for shots. They also have a great, if damp, room downstairs that they are pretty flexible about renting out. I recommend this bar to anyone who loves drinking and people watching. It's even a great place for brooklynites to stop for refreshment after a bike ride over the Williamsburg bridge. read more

Just attended a free comedy show here tonight with a girlfriend. No cover, no drink minimums, and they bribe you to stay until the end of the show with free pizza. The show was supposed to be 2 hrs long ( 9 - 11 ) and we couldn't stay until the end so we missed out on the pizza, but the comedians were decent. We had a surprise comedian drop by (don't know his name but he's on the show 30 rock and has wild, crazy hair and glasses) and he was by far the best of the night. They boast only pro comedians perform but I'd have to disagree, as a few of the comedians just really crashed and burned and were even looking at their notes to remember what they should talk about next. The show itself took place in the basement, and was packed with about 70 or so people. If you get there early you can get a seat, but otherwise it's standing room - and a lot of people were standing. All in all I'd say it was a decent girl's night out: It was a great chance to catch up with free entertainment thrown into the mix. There was also no issue finding free parking, which I really appreciated. You have to read the signs though as there are night regulations from 12am - 3am read more

Lucky Jack's was the birthday bar for 2011. I had my birthday drinks there in August, and then my friend's boyfriend did a redo in December. There's always such pressure to come up with a place to have your birthday drinks, because you're trying to please everybody. You have fancy friends, you have stingy friends. Some places are too crowded. Some places are too small. Lucky Jack's is perfect as a birthday bar. It's one of the longest bars in NYC, as it spans the whole block between Allen and Orchard, so there is plenty of space. They have a DJ on Saturday nights (who does indulge song requests). They have pool. They have photo hunt. You really can't go wrong. My ONLY complaint is that it can get crowded on Saturdays after around 10:30, and also that they get rid of the bar stools. This isn't a review for Lucky Jack's as much as it is for their Wednesday night show "Gandhi is that you" Great show, kept me rolling. and when they say free- they mean it. No pressure to buy drinks. All broke college students take note. The show is downstairs, it's a rather small space so get there on time to get your drinks before going downstairs to get a seat. There's a quick turnover of performers so it's fast paced and whether you love or hate the act (some of the comedians are testing out their new material), they're getting off the mike soon.- but mostly you'll love it. 5 stars for great ambiance, fantastic comedians (who were awesome to chat with after the show- everyone hangs out), bartenders/staff are so friendly, for pulling in a great crowd and for being completely free. Interesting setup for a bar: long and narrow, but it's not bad. This was one of a bunch a bars I hoofed it too in an attempt to wrangle friends up in one central location. I liked the DJ a lot last night. The Red Sox were prominently displayed on their large flat screens. The bartender looked like Dane Cook if he were a weight lifter and from Ireland. And I got LEI'ED by Jaegermeister chicks. Ha. I hear there's a pretty sweet private room downstairs too. This may be a premature 4 star review, so consider it closer to a 3.5 until closer inspection. A LES dive if you would call this place. Came here for my friend's charity even to benefit Haiti and it was a success...but the bartenders were very slow and it was not even that packed. I liked the red pool table in the back and it was only a few quarters for a game. I came here specifically for the free Wednesday night comedy show in the basement known as "Ghandi Is That You?" A small room with uncomfortable folding chairs, it was nevertheless funny. Among others, I enjoyed Judah Friedlander (NBC's 30 Rock), and Django Gold (one of Colbert's writers). My favorite was Comedy Central's Sean Patton. He's like a Belushi/Jack Black hybrid whose crazyman routine made my sides ache. There's no drink minimum and you can bring your own food. I probably could've smuggled in a bottle if I'd desired to. Upstairs, the bar itself was ok, nothing out of the ordinary for NYC. I'd return, but probably only on a Wednesday. read more

Huge bar that extends for the length of the block.. located smack in the middle of the LES. Good space with a pool table upstairs, and a huge basement downstairs as well. Divey college vibe minus the cool music. Pretty chill overall. I would give this place 4 stars if the ventilation in the basement wasn't horrendous when I walked in. It smelled like a damp gym locker or a wet dog..something along those scents. Why I liked the bar. It offered a lot of options. No cover..walked right in no problems, there were a lot of hooks to hang your jackets. Oh yeah and I read a sign that said HH from 12-8! It was massive and had 2 bars upstairs and downstairs and a pool table. A little bit of a fratty crowd but the kids were behaving and I didn't get a drink spilled on me. Nor kick anyone in the shins, lucky for them because I had some heeled boots on me. The DJ played a lot of rap and hip-hop and that got people to dance..which was mainly going on downstairs. They even had bar video games.. "whats the difference". They had a IPA, Blue Moon, Stella and Hooegaarden..no complaints there for me. I liked downstairs you could sit and lounge around..there was also a breeze throughout the upstairs and I was never too hot or too cold. read more

I came here with friends on 1/6. after sometime I decided to play pool. My jacket was on a hook under the bar, I could see it from the pool table. The security guard moved my jacket, hung it over the bannister. When I went to check my phone, that was in the jacket pocket- it was gone. Clearly, it had fallen out as a result of being hung over the bannister. OH YEAH. My 32gb iPhone4 I bought not even a month ago- GONE. We looked around & called it but it was gone. The security guard says my friend asked him to move the jacket. He refused to take any responsibility & told me if he found another one he'd give it to me. From the patrons to the bartender, this place has ATTITUDE, but not in a fun, Chris Tucker way. After informing me that he'd "never served a pitcher of beer" at the establishment, the bartender pointed flippantly to a tiny chalkboard when I asked for a beer menu. "Should I assume they're the standard $6?" I asked, inflecting the words with S my D. He then told me they were $7 a pint, correcting it a moment later to $6. Listen, if you're going to be pretentious enough to refuse pitcher service and forget the pricing of the one item you do serve, rest assured I will slander your ass on Yelp. ~how they quake with fear~*~the revolution will be televised~**~*~ The place gets two stars because Sasha, the guy who runs the mic downstairs, does a nice job and puts up a lot of good talent. Great place for cocktails! Service and drinks by Bronson were five stars. We stopped on mid-day Saturday, sat outside, ordered food from next door. Their Tuscan Rickey is the best Rickey I've had (I don't typically like rockets and ordered two because they were so delicious). My husband ordered the nitro cold brew which has whiskey in it (no dairy) and it was fantastic!! This is a regulars hangout spot, not touristy, not college bar scene. Lucky Jacks RULES yo. The main bar is the exact length of the pitchers mound to home plate---60 feet six inches. So go ahead an throw a split fingered fastball at that guy drinking Blue Moon at the other end of the bar. You can enter on Allen St. or Orchard St. it's THAT big. A little pricier than many of it's neighbors but worth it for the vibe and the incredible vastness. I booked the place for a Saturday night birthday party after viewing their website. I went on a Wednesday to check it out, and was thoroughly disappointed. How divey! This is not what the space looked like online (go figure) so I asked to see the downstairs lounge, and was put at ease- slightly. It's definitely a bit different than the dive-pub atmosphere upstairs. We decided to stick with the booking, since there was no payment of guarantee required, and I'm glad that we did! It was a rainy night- rainy being an understatement... it was closer to a monsoon- and yet 20 people still showed! We were given the side portion of the lounge, (reserved to "Amanda", meaning Amber, meaning me) which was a bit awkwardly shaped. It's long and narrow, and apparently the bar tenders have to walk through it multiple times a night for whatever reason. This was all fine, though- because it forced people to stand and mingle. Music was fun- top 40's kind of stuff, older R&B which was good, but not enough dancing for my taste... the other party was a group of debbie downers and refused to dance, so we handled that department ourselves. $6/beer, the mixed drinks are weak, but I got outta there drunk, and somehow, with a low tab.... read more

I stopped by here on my last visit to the city. We were visiting family and they took us here to try the pickle back shots. Apparently they are all the rage in NYC right now. Maybe elsewhere too. So we had four shots of Tullamore Dew irish whiskey and four shots of pickle juice. You chase the whiskey with the pickle juice. It's supposed to be amazingly delicious or something. And everyone seemed to like it, that is, except for me. As soon as I took the pickle chaser, I immediately felt sick to my stomach and wanted to vomit. I then started having the "about to vomit" feeling. Awesome bartender comes over and asks me if i wanted some water to which I nodded and served up a refreshing, ice water with lemon instantly which allowed me to get over my nausea and continue with my day. If it weren't for the timing of that water, it would have been a disaster. Be on notice though, that pickle juice can have some serious effects. It came back to haunt me later that night, but was quelled with a delicious sandwich. The decor ambiance was cool. i would totally hang out there. And the service was clutch. The bathroom has a ton of stickers everywhere, and while I would prefer not to have to do a number two there, there would be a lot of interesting things to read while visiting. I don't make it to NYC that often, and when I do, I don't usually make it to the lower east side, so i don't know how long it'll be before I return. but if i lived in the city and especially in the neighborhood, I'd be back often, Great selection of booze too. read more

A) In the basement I saw Jim Gaffigan do some hilarious bits about whales being upside down and stuff and then my friend did his hilarious bits about brunch money and THEN we left sans my wallet. B) I was reunited with my yuppie wallet in just over 12 hours thanks to very nice lady owner Meghan and responsible people at the comedy show. This is a great bar if you lose your wallet a lot, like top-notch comedy with semi-famous comedians and a bar with a friendly staff. C) I know this review doesn't make much sense and utilizes questionable syntax. I'm aware. D) "One woman sitting by herself, but it was cool." I am quoting another user's review on here. I love this sentence. I am frequently a woman sitting by myself. Good to know things can still be cool despite this. Check out the Wednesday night comedy show! Don't go here. You think you are having a good time but then someone steals your jacket and your friends coat. My friend had a northface and I have a simple one from some cheap store. The fact that someone stole our stuff makes this place bad. Granted they did have some good music with a live DJ downstars it's still messed up. Someone that wasn't in our party came from up stairs and stole it. Did I mention that the bouncers from this place are jerks? They wouldn't let me go down stairs to recheck if my jacket is there. I had to beg them for like 15mins before they let me go down there. If you want to go to a good bar don't go here for your party. I still don't understand how with my party of 30 people someone was allowed to come from upstairs to take our stuff. read more

Cool bar in the LES for dancing and drinking. There are coat hooks hanging along the walls too. There are 2 bathrooms, one at the back, where most of the dancing takes place (there isn't a proper dance floor) and one downstairs. Downstairs appears to be another bar but it wasn't really popping even though I went on a weekend. Overall fun place to go to. read more

Another average bar with some fantastic house drinks. I had a great lemonade drink. It was pretty sweet, but had a bit of a tang and the vodka meshed well with it. This became my go to sports bar earlier this year during the NBA and NHL finals. Being a Chicago fan in NYC it can be a little daunting finding somewhere to watch your games but these guys were great. Multiple TV's, relaxed atmosphere and talkative bartenders. It also used to down the road from my place on Orchard which made it too easy to skip out for a couple of quite ones and a little bit of shouting at the TV (friendly shouting only). I can't say what it is like as a going out spot, I only hit it up as a sports bar, but I definitely liked it. Biggest thing was that they were fair about showing games on the TV's, and as into sport in general as the other folk who would venture down to watch a game. Now that the NBA is back on I'll be jumping over there occasionally to catch a Bulls game or two. read more

Can you say "Darkened Manhattan"? Well, I discovered this drink on a recent trip to Louisville, and I've been trying to enjoy it in the Big Apple. Lucky Jack's Bartender hit it right! This is a great space that stretches a whole block. Walk in on Allen, sit in the window overlooking Orchard. Low key at 6pm, great for unwinding after a day at work! I don't know ANYTHING about it's life after about 7 but sounds like from other reviews that it is a happening. Very much worth walking in and staying a while! read more

It's a cool place to have a party (I'm talking about downstairs/basement). Two of my friends threw their party here and I did too (I threw a 90's party!). You can play your own music which is cool (iPod or own DJ) and everyone can have a great time dancing on their spacious dance area without having to be kicked out as early as 2am (I know some bars close that early).
