That said, I feel like I must have walked pass this place many times, since Ave C has been a integral part of many bar crawls. Anywho, I came for an "private" event on an early Friday evening and I was very surprised (in a good way) with the bar. One, the bar had a 2-4-1 special, very rare for a Friday night. I do not know if this special is a normal thing for Friday nights or if it was specific for our event. Two, the bartender was really nice and knew how to make a strong drink. Actually, he was quite funny and really interacted with the bar patrons. The space has the appearance like a simple dive bar; but, word on the street that the bar has quite a bit of dancing during the weekend. Bedlam seems like a place where people of all sexual orientations (and their friends) can come and have a few drinks. Based on my visit, Bedlam appears to be a place where one (or a group) would go to get a few drinks before going to another place in the area. Of course this statement has to be validated with another visit to Bedlam.

Some of them may even rival Bedlam as a place that fulfills [1], [2], and [3], although I have yet to find another spot that you can show up to around 8 pm on a Saturday (it doesn't really get going until 10:30 or 11 pm, at which point [2] is out the window) and have the whole bar and dance floor available for you and your friends. But I am absolutely, 100% sure that Bedlam is the only place in the neighborhood (perhaps the country) that can possibly realize my lifelong dream of combining [1], [2], [3] AND [4] in the same fantastic establishment. With room for 700, if you get in there early, you'll be happy you did. Doors opened at 7 and we were there around 630 and waited with a very orderly crowd. The venue checked our IDs while we were online and got us started with. wrist bands and stamps. Once inside there is a coat check for $5 and they also sold merch for the performers. I will definitely be back again. In a city of 8.5 million people, it's amazing you can see your favorite performers up close and personal like we did here at Le Poisson Rouge.

I went to their Gyalhattan event, which was a mix of dancehall and hip hop, and the energy was great. The crowd is mixed but tends to skew younger, and it attracts people from a lot of different backgrounds. Visually, the space is very cool. The dark interior is covered with artistic, almost glow-in-the-dark designs that give the club a distinctive vibe. The staff has also always been pleasant and attentive, from the bouncers to coat check to the cleaning staff. Every interaction I've had there has been positive. Bathrooms are surprisingly clean too (and actually feel safe). There can sometimes be a line to get in, but it usually moves quickly. For ticketed events like Gyalhattan, prices are reasonable, and if you plan ahead you can sometimes grab early bird tickets for free. They have a good-sized dance floor, and DJs rotate throughout the night, with the best sets usually hitting after 1 a.m. There's also a lounge seating area if you want to take a break from the dance floor. Overall it's a fun spot with great music and a real dancing crowd. I'll definitely be back with friends.
