This place is awesome if you're looking for a quick spot to get a cocktail. I came in during a happy hour and my wine was five dollars. We had the best Bartender. Abbey was incredible. She recommended so many activities. She was such a doll. Great service

Lucky is a new bar in the East Village owned by a bartender who has been at it for years and it shows! I was part of an event that was being held here and definitely enjoyed the vibe that was going on. Abby the owner/bartender is engaging and friendly and knows how to pour a good drink. Cara too is just as awesome. The bar area and outdoor patio was clean as well as the bathroom which seems to be something people mention when reviewing this place. The bar itself was decorated nicely and kept dimly lit. One major plus here is their awesome jukebox. The jukebox here has mixes from various famous NYC bars Abby has tended and has a little bit of everything ranging from punk to alternative and everything in between. One thing that will bring me back for sure is the non pretentious attitude here. Nothings worse than a bar that treats you as if you don't belong there. Not here. You feel welcomed as if youve been a long time friend. I'd recommend this place and suggest you stop by.

Came here during Santacon, since we were pretty much over the long lines and abundance of drunk Santa's and I have to say that it was the best choice we made all day. A quaint lil gem in the East Village where a lot of the locals go. A little dark, a little grimy but all the New York feels, nothing frou-frou about it. I love this place because it isn't super packed and the prices are super affordable compared to the surrounding bars around the area. The bartender Abby is on point, and let's you know exactly how it is which I had really appreciated. She always made sure we always had a drink in our hands. If you are ever in the East Village of New York you must come out to this place and support the local business.

I like Lucky, it's a solid, no nonsense bar with a great booze selection and prices to match! I have always had friendly service from the bar staff. Lucky is also DOG FRIENDLY. Abby has graciously helped out the rescue I co-run by agreeing to be a a safe, secure place for us to receive transports of dogs from out of state before transferring them into the care of foster parents. That kind of help is invaluable in this crazy city! read more

The prices are right, and I like the space. Narrow upfront with some room in the back, and a nice garden. There is also a decent jukebox. Unfortunately, a woman who works there is not very nice. On a crowded friday night with one bartender, a woman behind the bar kept telling us "I am not the bartender" in a very rude way and not serving people. It was befuddling. read more

The average customer has more than two brain cells to rub together. The jukebox is inspired. The drinks are reasonably priced. They have specialties you can't get anywhere else. What's not to like? Lucky is an oasis among oases. Long may it wave! read more

Lucky's is just a great dive bar. I went to meet up with a cheap date for happy hour on a weekday, and draft beers were buy-one-get-one free (you claim the second with a token). The bartender was friendly and exactly the right level of conversational while I nervously waited for the guy, and then a few minutes later, there we were, BOGO beers in hand, outside in the evening air on the patio picnic tables. God love Lucky's. read more

A bar this tiny needs air conditioning to avoid looking aggressively cheap as well as making patrons miserable. That was the first failure. Coming second was the snideness of the bar staff. Pick another job if you cant wipe off your perma-sneer. All patrons, especially those kind enough not to walk straight out of your sauna-in-the-summertime atmosphere, should be warmly treated yet this was another disappointment-the staff seemed to appropriate a condescension that stunk of misfit revenge. The patrons at this bar and decor were the only chill things. The bartender whom was a older woman with unkept shoulder length hair was beyond rude and on top of it a sucky bartender. She got an attitude when I asked did she have any spicy drinks. So I decided on a ginger ale and Jameson. My friend ordered an old fashioned to which she looked extra annoyed because all she wanted to do was serve beer off tap or single ingredient drinks. He should have just ordered that because the old fashioned was gross sugary and syrupy we had to add some of my drink to it just to make it bearable. Upon leaving i hadn't reached my credit card minimum so we ordered two beers. While sitting at the bar we noticed all the dollar bills on the ceiling with names on them and asked her could we add ours.... twice. The first time we were ignored the second rule she told us rudely and short of course that she was about to leave so we could ask the other bartender later. What a great little spot! There are a ton of bars in the neighborhood but this one really has exactly the right vibe. Small but not too loud. Friendly. No screaming idiots, just down to earth folks who want to get together for a drink, or have a drink on your own. The bartenders will either chat you up or leave you alone. The backyard is awesome. The jukebox music is PERFECT. The owner, Abby, is happy to make a fancy cocktail or give you a PBR and a shot. It's an adult bar that hasn't taken itself too seriously. A narrow but really comfortable bar with great ambience and music, thanks to an amazing jukebox. Came in just as a huge group of people were leaving- something I wouldn't recommend at a bar where there's only meant to be one bartender. Had a super strong drink and a great time! read more

A really cool local bar in Alphabet City. The staff is incredible, so is the owner. They have an amazing back patio that is furnished. If you're looking to get away from TV screens and just have a conversation with your pals, Lucky on Ave B is the perfect place to do that and have amazing cocktails. read more

A comfortable neighborhood bar with an unusual and eclectic jukebox, a tree-shaded back yard, draft beers, Happy Hour specials, and bartenders who aren't going to put up with any bullsh*t. No TVs, no Red Bull, no Anheuser Busch, no Fireball, no Southern Comfort and no Jack Daniels. These decisions were made to exclude about 80% of potential business. Read that again. We aren't for everyone. But we may be for you!

History

Established in 2016.

As a long-time East Village resident, Ms. Ehmann always enjoyed the neighborhood bars. In opening Lucky, she is eager to provide a refuge for those seeking an alternative to all the fancy cocktail and craft beer bars, destination venues and places catering solely to college students. As a life-long fan of dive bars, Abby wanted to create a casual, unpretentious ambience where everyone feels welcome and prices are affordable. However, to remain competitive, she decided to offer high-end alcohol and IPAs alongside the PBR and well booze. Instead of a canned playlist or internet radio station, the soundtrack at Lucky comes from a meticulously curated jukebox, filled with custom made CDs that pay homage to much-loved defunct bars, (including Downtown Beirut, where Abby bartended), clubs and parties (including Click + Drag and Kitsch Inn, which she co-produced). This bar is a very concrete manifestation of Abby's vision. Basically either you'll love it or you'll hate it.

We had visited Shuka about two years ago and really enjoyed it, so we were excited to come back. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was wonderful. Our server Johnny took such great care of us and made us feel welcomed throughout the meal. His attentiveness and warmth really stood out. The restaurant itself is beautiful. We had a lovely corner table with a view outside, surrounded by all the greenery and plants that give the space such a warm, inviting feel. The seating was comfortable, and the atmosphere made it feel like a special night out. We ordered the whipped tahini, hummus, fried halloumi, and falafel. Everything was delicious, and while we unfortunately had to pack up most of our meal to enjoy later, I'm actually looking forward to those leftovers. The falafel and halloumi were highlights, and the hummus was a great addition to the table. The whipped tahini was good, but probably something I might skip on a future visit when there are so many other great options to try. Shuka remains a wonderful spot for a relaxed yet special meal. Great food, beautiful surroundings, and genuinely thoughtful service are exactly what bring people back--and we'll definitely be returning.

Just give me a pita! What is that about? But okay, I ordered an extra pita, I'm still hopeful. But out of the 5 pieces of lamb in my kebab, two were *grisly*! They don't give you a sharp knife, so you kind of have to bite off pieces; but when a piece is grisly you can't tear off a piece and end up with a full piece in your mouth, chewing for many minutes around the grisly center. Everyone knows what this is like and it's to be expected in life, but NOT at a high-end restaurant where you've paid a significant margin above the average meal, and don't even get a full pita. Guys, do some QC and soul-searching - and be generous with pita.

Let me preface this review with the fact that I am a born & raised NYer and not some "transplant brat" that other reviewers complain about. I also used to come here fairly often, because I liked the low-key vibe and the cocktails are great (when they feel like making them). The problem is they never feel like making them. You'll get responses ranging from an eye-roll, to a "that's too complicated" to a "how did I know you would order that?" to a "I can only make things with 2 ingredients". So I stopped coming. Fast forward until last week when I bought the Tippler booklet. I saw Lucky on the list and was genuinely excited to go back. I do like this place, and being that I had the booklet, I'd at least get the cocktail advertised. FALSE. I show the booklet to Marty, and without hesitation abruptly says "with that you can only get an IPA or a pilsner". I actually didn't mind too much because their pilsner is really good. I tipped him $1 and enjoyed my beer. What was NOT OK was that he proceeded to loudly complain to other patrons about how stupid Tippler is, complaining about his boss for signing the bar up for it, complaining about the Tippler patrons and how they don't tip or order more drinks. He also said that his boss told him she'd fire him if he "wasn't nice to these people". Based on the other reviews I doubt this. If you are going to be abrupt and rude to people right off the bat, WHY WOULD THEY TIP YOU AND CONTINUE TO ORDER MORE DRINKS FROM YOU? They're going to get the h*** out of there, go to another bar, and never come back! The whole point of your bar being a part of Tippler is to generate business for your bar, right?? Well guess what?? You're doing just the opposite. You are giving out free drinks and GIVING people a reason no never come back! You are actually losing money and PAYING people in drinks not to be there!! How f**kin stupid is that?? read more

I never thought I'd write a yelp review until this bar. The owner is incredibly rude and antagonistic. I've never been harassed by a bar employee like this in my 10 years living in the city. Plenty of other great dive bars in the area with a longer history. Just google it. Wish the original dives like Mars Bar stayed open and nostalgic/pretentious imitations like this wouldn't even open in the first place. And I know the owner probably worked there "back in the day." Doesn't matter. Don't be rude to your patrons. Edited for Abby's response: Double down is one of my regulars. You are just mean. Plenty of other reviews indicate your erratic behavior. Maybe take some notes from bartender Sophia or stay on the playa, far away from the service industry! read more

Please, do yourself a favor and never come to this bar unless you want to be treated like shit. The owner is a DICK. Judging from the other reviews, I'm not the only one who's had a bad experience here. She thinks she can treat people like shit just because she runs the place. One of the few classic NYC dive bars left. The bartender was very friendly and hospitable. Top it off with a backyard and you can feel comfortable spending all day or night here. Introduce yourself to a stranger and celebrate the day. I would come back here again next time I'm in the area. read more
