Update on my old review! 3.5 stars! Decided to give it another try and was pleasantly surprised! The restaurant itself seems to be more like a takeout spot with some tables but they updated the decor. It is also very clean, even the bathroom was spotless. We got a free appetizer, it was a crab roll, 4 pieces, very good. I also had edamame, they were great and so was the seaweed salad. By the time I ate all of that I wasn't very hungry but of course I ate! I got tamago which was ok, not the freshest but passable, salmon skin hand roll, I loved it! And spicy California roll. It was not really spicy but pretty good. We didn't get any water and when my partner in crime asked, we got 1 bottle of water plunked down on the table, no glasses, I guess we were meant to share it lol! We got free dessert with the check! Vanilla Mochi and very fancy orange slices. The prices were on par with a fancier establishment, too expensive for a take out almost restaurant. I'm feeling pretty silly for waiting this long to try Lucky Sushi. I heard or read something negative years ago, and stupidly avoided them ever since. After finally grabbing a take out order for the family tonight, the first word that comes to mind is OUTSTANDING!!! I generally judge sushi joints by their basic rolls. The "dynamite" or "Godzilla" or "lalapalooza" type rolls tend to be so saucy and flavorful that the delicate balance of subtle flavor sushi is famous for gets lost. Lucky Sushi NAILS the basics. We had California, spicy tuna, salmon avocado, and shrimp tempura rolls (I'd normally get more raw fish, but I still haven't started my kids on it). Each roll was expertly constructed and hit the desired flavor profile on all cylinders. We also got gyoza and edamame. The gyoza was notable because the filling was more of a potpourri of discernible ingredients than the globs of meat-stuff many sushi places dish out. In addition to the food itself, the staff was absolutely delightful. It was the kind of old school experience of actually interacting with the proprietors so sorely missed in suburban life these days. Anyway, I don't have to think about what sushi place to eat at or order from in the Melville/Huntington Station area anymore. I can't wait to go back! read more

I met my friend here for sushi and we haven't seen each other in months. We were blown away by how fresh and delicious the sushi was. As we chatted away we were brought a complimentary 4 piece specialty roll to split and after we were done eating (both got the house special) they brought out this complimentary mochi dessert. We just got takeout from Lucky Sushi for the first time & are so pleased with our decision! Our daughter picked it up for us and was given a delicious sushi appetizer while she waited for our food to be ready. She found the people who worked there to be so friendly and kind and the restaurant immaculate. The explosion roll and the Hawaiian roll were so delicious as were the spicy tuna, tuna avocado & salmon avocado rolls. All the fish was fresh and the shrimp tempura in the Explosion roll perfectly sweet and crispy! We will definitely be ordering here again and look forward to dining in too!! read more

The moment I stepped inside the restaurant and saw the old Japanese couple who owns the place, I had the feeling that their sushi would be good. And it was awesome. Their rice was soft and fish was fresh. I could taste the sweet from fresh salmon when I ate Salmon avocado roll. And for the very first time, I ordered spicy salmon and it was truly spicy without wasabi. Each roll came with 8 pieces instead of 6 like other restaurant which is sooo good. I gauge my sushi on a couple things as: benchmarks 1. Saba, pickled mackerel if the place can execute Saba well than its a decent sushi. 2. Futomaki a traditional Japanese roll that, not one the Americanized flying dragon spider monkey coconut rolls. Lucky sushi was solid 3 stars on both. The place must have a Korean connection as bulgogi beef was on the menu...... What's sad is the road that this place is on so dark and hidden I'm not sure anybody besides locals are going to be able to drive by and give it a shot........so their future seems to be in some jeopardy however if you're looking for decent takeout sushi or just a super casual dining inexperience give Lucky a try ......solid three star sushi. read more

Having only visited this place for the first time after their management switch on April 15, I can't speak for any experiences before then. But as far as I am concerned, the new management is great. A lovely, friendly little couple with a knack for sushi, at a fair price. Both times I have visited, it was for a late lunch (2-3pm) so we have been the only customers there. I get an hour for my lunch break, and am constantly worrying about where to go, based on the speed of the service. Here I don't have to give it a second thought. We get our food and time to relax well within the time constraints of an hour to get back to work. My suggestion: get the Tunacado or Salmoncado app and no matter which roll you pick, you won't be disappointed. Brown rice options available. read more

Went today for lunch. Ordered two lunch specials. We had 5 rolls total. The miso soup was fine, the free salad was pretty decent as well. The vegetables were fresh and the dressing was good. The rolls were a VERY skimpy. The rice was well cooked and the rolls neat and tight. Way too much cucumbers in everything. One of the rolls I ordered was a yellowtail roll. I though she made a mistake and brought over a cucumber roll. I asked the owner/waitress. She said the fish was chopped up. I looked closly and saw 90% cucumber 10% fish. Could not even taste it. The other rolls were extremely skimpy on the fish. Will not be returning ever !! I was sick all evening as well. read more
