So so so disappointed. Got takeout - two sushi entrees. Fish wasn't fresh, including basics like tuna. The rolls that it came with were put together poorly - uneven cuts, some falling apart. A few pieces of nigiri I even threw out- including super chewy surf clam. Who gives that anyway? All the other places in syosset are better. What a shame. read more

The service was amazing- very polite, accommodating and genuinely friendly. I had the lychee martini and it was just OK. The food overall was just Ok as well; however their sushi was great. If we go back I would only go for their sushi rolls and specialities. I gave it 4 star instead of a 3 due to their service and sushi itself. Their chicken udon wasnt very good - the chicken was too dry; their beef teriyaki was not great - the beef was too chewy and tough. The kids enjoyed their miso soup and rice. But beyond that they didn't really enjoy anything else. There's parking in the back and street parking as well. It's not very large so reservations are definitely recommended. read more

Check the specials, they have different ones every night and are always amazing. The service is very friendly and courteous. This is my first time eating in. I usually order for takeout. It's a small little cute sushi spot so i definitely reccomend reservations as they get packed very quickly! The sushi tastes so fresh and they have multiple people making sushi. The waitresses were very knowledgeable and friendly. The lolipop fried shrimp was soooooo delicious and it came with a chipotle aioli sauce which was very tasty as well. The tonkatsu ramen was one of the best ramens I've tasted. It was filled with veggies and just enough meat! I shared this ramen with a friend and we didn't eat it all! Def a great portion to share. The arata dragon roll is my favorite. It is sooooo delicious!!! Shrimp tempura was fresh and crispy. I loved the Daniela roll too - the jalepeno on top is a must although you can ask them to take it off - but i believe it's that little kick that makes it a WOW thing! The kubota sake was soooooooo light and crisp with hints of fruit it was amazing. It's served cold and we got the small - and there was enough for 4 servings. Will definitely keep on coming back! Arata Sushi is a must for sushi lovers in the area. You can't tell from the black out curtains that this place is very lively and fully booked during the weekends - reservations recommended. Setting wise, has a slight feel of traditional Japanese but with chill music. There is a feeling of being in a hip, upscale restaurant. Food is pretty good overall. We've gotten many things from here and almost all are great. Sushi and specialty rolls have been consistently great. Their apps are great too and come out fairly quickly. The only thing we didn't like was the teriyaki beef - probably wouldn't recommend that given this is a sushi spot first and foremost. This place had been on my "to try" radar for a couple of years, and my son's 25th birthday was the perfect occasion to pay Arata a visit. We were not disappointed. In fact, it was an amazing meal and some of the best sushi we've ever eaten. Very cute place, friendly service, would make a perfect date night eaterie. We started out with a bottle of the Karatama Draft sake, which went perfectly with the meal. Then a hot app, the popcorn shrimp tempura, which was wonderfully crispy and tender inside, with a nice creamy sauce; the accompanying salad made for a terrific contrast and really elevated the dish. After that, we concentrated on our sushi feast, sampling three kinds of sushi: fluke, salmon and a special of the day, smoked sea trout. All were buttery and fresh. Finally, we tried three of their rolls, all fantastic: Unagi Labyrinth (chopped crunchy eel, avocado, cucumber, almond and sesame seeds with eel sauce) and Anya (crunchy spicy scallop roll topped with seared salmon sashimi, yuzu honey mustard, sesame seed, masago and crispy filo); and Volcano (crispy calamari avocado roll topped with crunchy spicy tuna and creamy eel sauce). I'd never had almonds, scallops or calamari in a sushi roll before but they all worked beatifully. As my son said, the composition of the rolls felt very intentional and sympathetic, everything worked together rather than being just a gloppy grouping of ingredients. read more

The food was fantastic. We each had the 10 piece Arata sushi special which was beautiful and delicious. We then shared some rolls and were all quite full afterwards. Absolutely delicious sushi! I made plans with a friend to meet here for dinner after work. I've been wanting to come here for quite sometime, so tonight was the night. When we walked in we were asked about a reservation. Restaurant had a bunch of empty tables and they remained empty for the entirety of our meal. We were seated and we had time to look over the menu. We both started with a spicy kani salad. It was one of the best kani salads I've ever had, and I'm still thinking about it as I write this review. The flavor and freshness was amazing. For my sushi roll I chose the Tuna Whopper Roll. It had layers of crunchy spicy tuna, avocado and snow crab salad wrapped with soy paper drizzled of eel sauce & masago. Fresh and deliciousness! My friend ordered the American Standard Roll. It had tuna, salmon, yellowtail, kani, avocado, scallion & masago roll wrapped in soy paper with miso sauce. She enjoyed it a lot. She said it was very light and filling. My friend and I both agreed that the ambiance was nice and cozy. I would absolutely return here and order more yummyness! read more

Syosset surprises with a surprisingly decent sushi spot. Unassuming from the outside, once you step inside its a lively but cozy restaurant. Fish quality and sushi here was on point. Only miss was the spicy tuna crispy rice - the rice was fried so much that it was basically a burnt crisp and hard to eat. Prices were commensurate with other LI sushi spots. Service was decent. Everybody loves Arata. Arata Sushi is a small place is in Syosset village. It reminds you more of a close table dimly lit, not too big, active and hip city place. The staff are accommodating even though we had no reservation they sat us at one table of only 3 left empty. Within minutes the two next to us were taken. They were so close we heard all about the one guys great prowess at his job. In finance. Lol Focused on our own table we had a few specialty rolls, a few standard like spicy tuna and the classic that was not on the menu. Before the rolls we tried out hand at mixed tempura to share. Tempura was all right .. dipping sauce watery. Didn't get the option of low sodium soy sauce and it was poured so ran out once and down near the end. Likely the new normal after the pandemic not leaving soy sauce on the table. So we came we saw we conquered and we left so they could have their table without a delay. We ordered from Arata sushi yesterday for my brother's pre-birthday celebration. My brother wanted to go pick up the sushi and he said it was seamless. He only waited about 2 minutes. We ordered an assortment of sushi rolls, sashimi, sushi and Arata omakase style. I tried everything except the eel. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend ordering their sushi sandwich with crab in it. The yellowtail and salmon were also excellent. For an appetizer, we got the popcorn shrimp. It was pretty good, but not the best I have had. We had miso soup to start as well. It was good. Not too salty. We were all pretty full by the end of the meal. I would love to try dining here once I feel a bit safer eating inside. read more

But FYI: they don't have cocktails.. just sake, wine, beer, and like a sake mimosa. $ point: For simple hand rolls like yellowtail jalapeño, spicy tuna etc, they charge $2-$3 above average price. But that yellowtail jalapeño was hands down the best sushi I've had. It was delicious! It tasted like there was an extra spice in the roll with how it tasted, but both the jalapeño and yellowtail were clean and fresh. I'd go back just for the yellow tail jalapeño. It had the rice inside but not out, which I preferred. Tokyo fries: like $6, and totally worth it. I'd order 4 of these if I could! Crispy fried sweet potato fries with capers and some other heavenly goodness; and a delicious miso butter dipping sauce. I loved dipping my yellowtail in that!! We ordered two speciality rolls: tuna whopper and the Daniella! In general, I don't think I'm a fan of specialty rolls anymore - i find them overwhelming and lose the taste of the actual ingredients, but theirs were good! I The Daniela one was my favorite out of the two.. it was lighter and easier to eat. The tuna whopper was massive and had lots of rice, and I'm not a big fan of too much rice on my sushi. My mom loved it though, because she loved all the different flavors and textures. The whopper was also a bit messy and difficult to eat but it'll also be the first to fill you up! We went for dinner on Saturday night. The place had a nice crowd but wasn't over crowded. Very dimly lit. The staff was very friendly and professional. The menu was interesting and the food was good. We had the Tokyo fries, roasted cauliflower and a Kano salad to start. I loved the Tokyo fries!! The Kano salad was good but I have had a lot better. The cauliflower I would not order again. My guy had the tofu teriyaki and I had a seared pepper tuna & lobster roll. It was a bit too peppery. I really couldn't taste anything but pepper. I'm undecided if I really loved the place.
