We've been coming here almost every week, and it continues to be one of our favorite places for sushi. Tonight, our server, May, was there, and as always, she was friendly and attentive. The owner, Kelly, also greeted us. Kelly is always warm and gracious, and her wonderful smile truly brightens the entire room. Since we arrived a little earlier tonight, we settled into our usual large booth by the front, our favorite spot. It was cozy and comfortable, making the evening even more relaxing. The sushi has been consistently fresh and delicious. We usually order the Sushi for Two to share, but tonight, after finishing our first order, we immediately ordered a second one. It was simply that good--and we couldn't stop! We did the exact same thing last week, which says a lot about how much we enjoy the sushi here. The Sushi for Two generally includes 18 pieces of premium-quality fish, such as King Salmon, Bluefin Tuna, Fatty Tuna, Madai, Branzino, and more, along with a choice of two signature makimono rolls. We always choose the Dozo Dozo for me and the Angel Roll for hubby. Each order also comes with a choice of soup or salad, and we always go with the soup. Tonight, we also ordered a large bottle of chilled Dassai 45 sake. It was aromatic, fruity, and slightly sweet, with a wonderfully smooth and flavorful taste that paired beautifully with the sushi. We enjoyed it so much that we wished we could finish the entire bottle, but since we had to drive home, we stopped halfway and took the rest home with us. Very good sushi. I regret not trying out earlier as the price is little bit higher than others in the area. But it is for a good reason. The fish is well prepared for sushi that there is none of that fishiness. Nigiri is made at the right firmness unlike rice ball like sushi we often see. Roll has none of that over powering taste. Miso soup is proper and again, none of the salty soup we often experience. Combined with proper Gali (pickled ginger) and better than average wasabi, you can enjoy really good sushi. Ordered the lunch special $18 for 4 rolls. Pumped to eat after the gym! I opened the bag and see only two trays. See pictures attached. I'm confused. Did I not pay for 4 rolls? I opened the lid and yeah, it's 4 different types of rolls with 4 pieces of each roll. So basically, 16 pieces which is 2 complete rolls. Did I just get played? Since when was a roll 4 pieces? I look at the yelp pictures and someone else had a take out sushi box with 2 rolls (6 pieces per roll) in there so 12 total. Unless it's 3 rolls since 4 pieces constitute a roll. Technically the definition of a roll is vague since it doesn't tell you the exact amount of pieces but I've eaten at so many sushi places and saw the yelp Pic so this was a bummer. I debated on this place vs others. Now I question if this is a Long Island thing or this place only thing since other sushi spots nearby also have a lunch special deal of $15 for 3 rolls or something similar. Unfortunately, minus 1 star for being different than the normal? Suggestion for them to ensure customers are aware? Sorry I usually don't discount a star for this but I was quite disappointed by my serving size. As for the sushi, it was pretty good. No complaints about taste, texture, quality and packaging. Loved the rice to filling ratio. The salmon was fatty. Restaurant looked very clean too. Order was made on time. Have I had better? Yeah, in Japan and surprisingly in Houston. How is this quality compared to other lunch specials? Pretty good and better than a few others. Would I be willing to pay this price? Yeah, if I knew I was getting into. Hidden gem in Syosset near dirty taco, taking on hand rolls as their speciality. It's small and dim in here but provides great ambiance. The food was very fresh and delicious and the service was fast. Came in just a little over a half hour before closing and they were more than accommodating. While I do think there are better sushi spots in the area, I think dozo dozo is one to try! read more

A Total Joke of an Experience - Save Yourself the Headache We placed an order from Dozo Dozo through DoorDash, and after waiting over an hour with zero updates, the order was just randomly canceled. No explanation, no apology, no food -- just an hour of wasted time and growing frustration. We contacted Dozo Dozo directly hoping to get some clarity or at least a basic apology, but they were completely clueless and unhelpful. They didn't offer a solution, didn't take any responsibility, and clearly couldn't care less about the customer experience. The attitude was dismissive at best. Was in Woodbury for an event and decided to dine at Dozo Dozo for dinner with my family. The service was top-notch!! My kids were handed their personal plastic cups of water, which were tightly closed with lids. My younger one still managed to spill it all over the table and a nice wait staff understandingly came by with napkins and said "it's okay, I have kids too." They were also friendly and very attentive to our needs. We ordered the handroll set, sushi for 2 and edamame and everything was freshly made and so delicious. My only feedback is for the handrolls, which arent your traditional Japanese handrolls. Rather, they're in seaweed "tacos" which made it kind of difficult and messy to eat. Otherwise, I would return again and try other items on the menu! This time I will say no to water for my kids. read more

Had omakase here, every piece was very fresh and delicious, a rare gem on Long Island. Although I loved my dinner, I was hoping for more creativity in each fish, I felt most of the flavors were pretty one note. The children were also very hungry due to the slow service, our server was running and his forehead had beads of sweat so I assume they might just have been short staffed for the night. It was a pleasant dinner and I would definitely come back for my omakase fix, hopefully things improved even more! read more

Went on a Monday when a lot of other sushi places are typically closed. I am happy to report that the fish was very fresh. We did the omakase. It is $120 a person for 15 tastings. They also offer 10% cash discount. The staff were very attentive. The inside is very modern and clean. The omakase was a great experience with various different flavor profiles. After waiting 46 minutes for our meal, I asked for Wasabi? They didn't have any just some powdered product available. I unfortunately put a piece of uni in my mouth , I wanted to spit it out but refrained in public. I tried a couple of pieces of fish and a scallop. It was all tasteless and mushy. I sent back the entire platter for fear of food poisoning. I was really hoping for a nice meal ! I rarely if ever give a bad review but this is a public service announcement. We went for a lunch as the reviews were very good. As a Japanese most of the time we disappointed with the quality of food and we were very skeptical about here as only one table was occupied where we arrived. There is no lunch special and the menu is pricey. The tap water was nuke and no tea was offered as we expected. I thought I would be disappointed. We ordered a regular sushi and 5hand rolls. And to my surprise, they are very fresh and tasty. Hand rolls didn't look like authentic ones and too little rice, but new toppings were pretty good. 5 stars for everything. Warning: that is NOT a dinner mint in the little glass dish! I'm glad we asked - it's a hand towel to wipe your hands, and it was kind of fun to watch it expand after they poured water on it. (Oops, I hope I didn't spoil the surprise!) I was reminded to add that there are a couple of spots on the menus are hard to see because they appear to have worn off. I could make it out if I looked closely, but I didn't care that much because they weren't dishes for which I wanted more detail, so it wasn't much of an issue for me. When someone eats stuff they normally pick off their plate (and not so sneakily transfer it to your plate) you know it's a winner of a place. They make their own dashi, and you can taste it in the miso soup. Normally I'm the only one who likes the miso black cod (it isn't popular with my dining companion because it can be fishy) but this one was a hit with both of us. Not too sweet, and fully cooked through, which is the complaint about Nobu's version. Personally I could have done without the Japanese mustard, which I scraped off, and then it was perfect. The sushi for 2: you get 10 pcs each, plus 2 special rolls. The thing with getting a sushi set is there's usually at least one (sometimes several) piece that is "meh", or there are a bunch of different kinds, but only one of each kind. That was definitely not an issue here! We got the Hakata roll (deep fried soft shell crab, asparagus, avocado, topped with spicy tuna) and Dozo Special Roll (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, topped with toro and scallions, with truffle caviar). No picking the asparagus out, we ate everything. I prefer not too complicated rolls, so I hope they will let me substitute rolls next time. Then we got seconds of the scallop sushi (which is also something I am the only one who orders), and I got a piece of the Hokkaido Uni - best uni nigiri in a long time - finally, crispy seaweed! It makes a huge difference, though I am still going to eat the uni sushi if the seaweed is a little chewy. It was good to get a partial preview of the omakase (oysters with uni and yuzu foam, miso black cod, and chawan mushi) - it's now on our list to try. This is the best sushi place we've been to on Long Island, and I am pretty sure we will end up here if we can't agree on what to have for dinner. (I foresee many "disagreements" in the future!) FYI, the sushi bar is all wood (see pic) so we didn't get to actually watch the chefs making the sushi, but if that's the only "disappointment" at dinner, it's a very good dinner! I really wish this new business the best of luck because the quality of the food is very good and the decor inside is very nice. We stopped in for dinner one night and we were able to be seated right away because we were the only people in the restaurant for our entire meal. Hopefully when they get their liquor and/or beer-wine licenses they will attract more of a crowd. The competition for food two doors down had no problem attracting a crowd and even had a few people waiting outside. Prices for rolls and almost everything in general were very high even for Long Island. We tried the 5 for $40 roll menu and while the food was excellent, the "rolls" were more like tacos in dried seaweed and served on one of those triangular taco gizmos that keeps everything upright and together. My daughter had a bowl of clear broth and some ramen inside-$17 for a bowl of soup- hmm. Rock shrimp appetizer was good but nothing super special. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we wanted for nothing as they were always available. On our trip there were 7 people working to serve the three of us. I've been here many times (probably 7 including when they had a soft opening) and I would say in general it's very good. The last couple times it seems like the sushi is coming out soggy for some reason. Like the spicy tuna is not hard enough or cold enough. The valentine roll was mushy and as they get busier the service seems to be declining a little. I do think for this area it's pretty good and authentic and fresh. I will continue to go there however I think the rice and some of the rolls need to be looked at for consistency in texture. read more

Alright I think I found my new favorite Omakase spot in Nassau County today! I went for the Omakase chef choice special which ended up costing $120 in total. This set included 3 appetizers and 10-15 pieces of nigiri sushi and then I ordered a little more for good measure. What can I say I'm a glutton for punishment (in a good way) lol! For starters I had the oysters with some green form of ponzu sauce that tasted amazingly sweet and savory with a hint of a Japanese soda zest yummy! I have never had Japanese oysters taste so good before wow! They had Ikura and uni on them I think under the foam green sauce hidden in plain sight. Second I had the Miso cod cooked or grilled to perfection with that ever so slight char we all know and LOVE! Then lastly I had a mushroom soup or maybe it was a clear soup not sure exactly but it was hot and contained those nice shiitake mushrooms I like and the smaller ones as well with the long stems forgot the names of them actually sorry. After that the main dish came with all the nigiri pieces looking all shiny and silky the way I like it. The usual suspects were here toro, uni, sweet shrimp with the head, aji, horse mackerel, red snapper, egg custard, etc. Last but not least for dessert was fried ice cream tempura I chose the vanilla flavor very tasty and creamy. All in all I had a great time and for short measure they even added a 15% discount for paying cash and I guess for gratuity as well. I had a great time love the decor and ambiance of this place for sure I will be back there was more than enough parking. Dined at Dozo Dozo in Woodbury tonight. Beautiful restaurant, more upscale and refined than most sushi restaurants I've been to on the Island. Had heard great things about the 15 selection omakase, but they couldn't offer it tonight because they ran out of some special fish selections. So we went with the sushi for two, which consisted of 9 different fish preparations and two specialty rolls (we chose the Black Dragon and Dozo Dozo roll). Wow is all I can say. Felt like Manhattan quality sushi at non-Manhattan prices. It even rivaled the omakase that I had in Japan earlier this year. I had previously dined here for lunch a la carte, it was good but I strongly recommend letting the chef choose for you for a very memorable experience. This has has spoiled us for sushi on Long Island. We sat at the sushi bar which also made for a more intimate setting, where the sushi chef was able to present his art to us. If you are looking for a more upscale experience, I recommend you give this place a try. read more

Got something someone here mentioned being a good choice: valentine roll and a few spicy tuna rolls with extra spicy sauce. Parking was a challenge as it shares a lot with other businesses. Accessible and bathrooms were cleaned ( I guess other diners werent as respectful as they should have been with the receptacles). There are choices for every palate although be careful with your food allergies. This was why i rate they way i do. It is a serious problem for us. Otherwise nice experience. Had an awesome dinner last night at Dozo Dozo. After recently moving from Forest Hills to Syosset we have been trying out various Japanese restaurants in the area in search of good sushi. Very happy to say that Dozo Dozo more than exceeded our expectations. Great service and fresh fish that melts in your mouth. Definitely will be coming back.
