On the way home to Alameda from an overnight trip, we were reminded how excited we had been to visit Thank Que Grill and that we had the time during spring break to visit! The food was delicious, we had the lumpia sliders and a fruit salad that was really yummy. The service was wonderful! We were offered something to try, were given recommendations, and they were nice enough to chat with us, recommending the marinated tofu in the future. This is definitely a hidden gem and worth the drive from SF. They also are perfect for catering pickup. The food is super delicious and reminds me of my grandma's cooking. I thoroughly enjoyed the healthy turkey lumpia. Most recently, I ordered a large tray of lumpia for a holiday potluck. The owners were super accommodating and they even timed it so that the lumpia came piping hot for pickup. They texted me before the pickup just to time everything accordingly in case I was running late. I came here with somebody who I know is a Lyft driver. D. Broadnax treated me to lunch earlier because he and I knew some of the same people from two different high schools. Thank Que Grill is a hidden gem, a brick & mortar on Dennison Street, not far the cross street of Embarcadero E in Oakland. Depending on which direction one is headed to this destination, from Oakland it is a left turn on Dennison; from Alameda it is cross the Park Street Bridge, left on 23rd Avenue, continue straight ahead on E. 7th Street onward to Embarcadero E and right turn on Dennison. Service was attentive, but the wait time for lunch was about 15 minutes. At the time, the restaurant had an influx of restaurant patrons and ran out of chicken for the Thank Que Bowl. No problem, patience is a virtue. No drama here. Life is too short for drama. The chef needed to prepare the chicken. Our bowls were freshly prepared and quite enjoyable. We were also comp an order of Shanghai lumpia. The lumpias were on point, especially with my garlic vinegar. Seating capacity indoor is 18 people. Outdoor patio is more spacious and the ambiance is casual and comfortable. Based on my observation, there are 4 community tables with benches, 3 small tables with a pair of chairs and a long table with tall barstools. Great outdoor dining area for chillaxin' while enjoying lunch during the summer months. The only drawback I have, and it is not the restaurant's fault, is I don't drive and there is no public transportation nearby. I will return for a future visit. Finally, thanks to D. Came in after work on a Thursday and this was my first time at this place . I think it was the owner and maybe his mom, but it was an elderly lady in the restaurant and they were both so welcoming and kind. I think it was the owner, but he was the one that made my food. He explained the menu in full detail and what made each meal special and how he added his own touch. He also gave me a sample of the chicken they use for the banh mi and banh mi bowl, it was delicious. I ended up getting the thank que bowl and the sisig garlic aioli fries. Both were made fresh and I was in and out within 15 minutes. This place has indoor and outdoor seating. It's kind of tucked away so I've never seen it before but the sign they put up I pass it every day after work so I wanted to try. Did not disappoint!! I feel like it's so hard to find Filipino food around Oakland with out having to drive down to San Leandro or all the way to Daly City. Was on my way to eat lunch at Jack London Square when I saw a spinning sign and a point in the right direction to Filipino BBQ. I wasn't aware of any Filipino food in the neighborhood right across from the Coast Guard Island entrance so had to check it out. The menu was focused on a handful of dishes, and we tried two for this round (because there will be other rounds): Thank Que Bowl and the Lumpia Sliders. DELICIOUS! My bowl had a healthy portion and was filling with all its yumminess. The lumpia was sold out when we visited, so we'll have to come back to try that next! I would've liked to have eaten on an actual plate and use actual utensils when dining in instead of using to-go boxes, but that wasn't a show-stopper. I saw the sign for Filipino Barbecue on the Oakland Embarcadero by the Coast Guard Base. Thank Que Grill, it must be new. It has been open for approximately one month. Oakland has limited Filipino restaurants let alone a barbecue eatery. Saturday night and I knew my better half had nothing prepared so it was up to me to provide the goods. I decided I would visit the Thank Que Grill and see if they have the Filipino barbecue with that distinct flavor, think when you go to a Filipino party and the chicken skewers are being grilled. I noticed on the overhead menu Shanghai lumpia, Filipino sliders (turkey), a special salad, a Filipino Banh Mi Sandwich with chicken and the Thank Que bowl were the featured items. The bowl was appealing choice with barbecue chicken with a special Filipino authentic sauce. I ordered two of those. My food was going to be take-out but next time I want to sit in the outdoor patio and enjoy being outside. The owner Renee gave me detailed information on how the different items were cooked and the distinct flavors. Yes, this is not your typical adobo and pancit restaurant, this is the authentic Filipino barbecue food that you have when you go to the Indoor/Outdoor Filipino party. The fun parties with great food, drinks, music and acourse dancing. The barbecue chicken in the Thank Que Bowl was moist and tender, and the sauce- a little sweetness in it. Yumms! Two scoops of rice plus the pickled vegetables were a tasty treat, have not had those in some time. I remember my Aunties would add them as an additional flavor item. Saw this driving by today and dipped in. I am already addicted to the sisig fries! Super generous with the toppings and the sauce is amazing. Pork belly is tender and flavorful. Had the bahn mi and it is incredible. Packed with delicious BBQ chicken! The pickle is made with papaya and coconut vinegar, bread was perfect.
