I thoroughly enjoyed the healthy turkey lumpia. Most recently, I ordered a large tray of lumpia for a holiday potluck. The owners were super accommodating and they even timed it so that the lumpia came piping hot for pickup. They texted me before the pickup just to time everything accordingly in case I was running late. Thank Que Grill is a hidden gem, a brick & mortar on Dennison Street, not far the cross street of Embarcadero E in Oakland. Depending on which direction one is headed to this destination, from Oakland it is a left turn on Dennison; from Alameda it is cross the Park Street Bridge, left on 23rd Avenue, continue straight ahead on E. 7th Street onward to Embarcadero E and right turn on Dennison. Service was attentive, but the wait time for lunch was about 15 minutes. At the time, the restaurant had an influx of restaurant patrons and ran out of chicken for the Thank Que Bowl. No problem, patience is a virtue. No drama here. Life is too short for drama. The chef needed to prepare the chicken. Our bowls were freshly prepared and quite enjoyable. We were also comp an order of Shanghai lumpia. The lumpias were on point, especially with my garlic vinegar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seating capacity indoor is 18 people. Came in after work on a Thursday and this was my first time at this place . I think it was the owner and maybe his mom, but it was an elderly lady in the restaurant and they were both so welcoming and kind. I think it was the owner, but he was the one that made my food. He explained the menu in full detail and what made each meal special and how he added his own touch. He also gave me a sample of the chicken they use for the banh mi and banh mi bowl, it was delicious. I ended up getting the thank que bowl and the sisig garlic aioli fries. Both were made fresh and I was in and out within 15 minutes. Similar to those diced frozen carrots you see in the supermarket frozen section. Also with the sisig was atchara which sweet pickled julienned green papaya and bell peppers. Was on my way to eat lunch at Jack London Square when I saw a spinning sign and a point in the right direction to Filipino BBQ. I wasn't aware of any Filipino food in the neighborhood right across from the Coast Guard Island entrance so had to check it out. The menu was focused on a handful of dishes, and we tried two for this round (because there will be other rounds): Thank Que Bowl and the Lumpia Sliders. DELICIOUS! My bowl had a healthy portion and was filling with all its yumminess. The lumpia was sold out when we visited, so we'll have to come back to try that next! I would've liked to have eaten on an actual plate and use actual utensils when dining in instead of using to-go boxes, but that wasn't a show-stopper. I saw the sign for Filipino Barbecue on the Oakland Embarcadero by the Coast Guard Base. Thank Que Grill, it must be new. It has been open for approximately one month. Oakland has limited Filipino restaurants let alone a barbecue eatery. Saturday night and I knew my better half had nothing prepared so it was up to me to provide the goods. I decided I would visit the Thank Que Grill and see if they have the Filipino barbecue with that distinct flavor, think when you go to a Filipino party and the chicken skewers are being grilled. I noticed on the overhead menu Shanghai lumpia, Filipino sliders (turkey), a special salad, a Filipino Banh Mi Sandwich with chicken and the Thank Que bowl were the featured items. The bowl was appealing choice with barbecue chicken with a special Filipino authentic sauce. I ordered two of those. My food was going to be take-out but next time I want to sit in the outdoor patio and enjoy being outside. The owner Renee gave me detailed information on how the different items were cooked and the distinct flavors. Yes, this is not your typical adobo and pancit restaurant, this is the authentic Filipino barbecue food that you have when you go to the Indoor/Outdoor Filipino party. The fun parties with great food, drinks, music and acourse dancing. The barbecue chicken in the Thank Que Bowl was moist and tender, and the sauce- a little sweetness in it. Yumms! Thank Que Grill is located in a small stall inside the Ashland Market & Cafe along with a couple other businesses. They don't have many items on their menu, and most items are different versions of each other on a different vessel. However, that helps make everything delicious due to the focus! The lumpia shanghai was yummy - simply a well made lumpia with finely ground meat, served with sweet chili sauce. Sure, I can get 10 pieces for half the price of this where I live in Daly City, but you gotta take what you can get in San Leandro! Also, their lumpia pieces are extra long, like a taquito. The Thank Que bowl was delicious, although smaller than I thought it'd be. Not much food goes for less than $10 these days though, so the portion wasn't that alarming. My boyfriend normally dislikes Filipino food, but he really liked the BBQ chicken! The sauce is sweet and tangy, and tastes like there's some other Asian flavoring mixed in (some notes of sweet and sour, some of a thick soy like oyster sauce). I love how well the BBQ sauce integrates over the steamed rice, and the light pickled papaya (atchara). The folks serving up this fresh take of Filipino food are super nice!
